I'm going to be honest, I have drove past this unassuming building in Johnstown for years without even knowing it wasn't deserted, but that it was diamond in the rough. In this part of Johnstown, it definitely is a rough area. Parking is either on street or across the street in a gravel parking lot beneath a billboard. If you do park in that lot, do be carful crossing the street as it can be a busy one. Plus there is a slight curve that a driver might not see you while your rush across the street. Once inside you can tell that it lives up to the bar and grill in its name. It has this look inside that gives off this 80s dining vibe. One that calls back to those eateries once found in the mall. You know, those ones where it's almost too dark to see yourself let alone the menu. One where it is very dark wood, heavy on the brick, and all things that make you feel like your in and old time inn. Once settled at a table, we had our menus in hand and were given some time to look them over. Our server came back, took our drink orders and left us for a few more minutes to finalize our decisions considering the menu. Once we decided orders were place and we just waited for our food to come out. It gave us time to look around the place and take in our surroundings. When we first got here, there weren't many people. As we ordered, there were more and more customers that came in. Filling up the tables and making it feel warmer. We were in the midst of conversation and our food came out. I ordered the Franklin Street Bar & Grill Famous Meatloaf. This comes with a slice of the thickest homemade meatloaf I have ever seen. Plopped on top of a pile of mashed potatoes then topped with fried onion rings and smothered in brown gravy. This thing, even though not exactly as described and pictured, was delicious. Not sure if it is fame worthy as I have never heard of it, but hey, I will make sure to remember this when in the area again. To note, entrees are served with your choice of soup, salad, or applesauce, and comes with a homemade dinner roll. The service here is stellar. They all go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and their memory is like a vice grip. One thing you do need to keep on your toes about here, watch your step. With the dimness and small step ups, it would be easy to trip. They do have signs everywhere, but they can be hard to spot if you aren't aware of your surroundings. read more

Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We sat at the bar for quite a while before anyone acknowledged or greeted us, even though the restaurant was not busy at the time. While we were eating, several staff members were having loud and inappropriate conversations with each around the bar area, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable and unprofessional. The most concerning issue was with the food allergy handling. A friend in our group has celiac and clearly informed the waitress that he needed gluten-free food. He was told that both the wings and fries were gluten free, but after eating, he became severely sick, indicating there was likely gluten contamination or misinformation about the menu items. For someone with celiac, this is a serious health issue and should be treated with much greater care and attention. Overall, the service, professionalism, and allergy awareness were far below expectations. I hope the restaurant takes these concerns seriously and improves staff training and food safety practices moving forward. read more

Whether you come here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, your tastebuds will thank you and you'll leave with a very full belly. if you come here for breakfast, you can't go wrong with literally thing on the menu. For lunch, the sandwiches and soups are amazing! (They also have soup flights!!!) For dinner I always recommend the sou vide chicken. It's the best chicken in town. The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the wait times for food. Food can up to 45-50 minutes to come out of the kitchen when they are really busy. Now, does that impact the experience? Nope! My go-to for breakfast when I'm in town! Today I tried the special pumpkin stuffed French Toast and am sooooo glad I did! Ooey gooey cream cheese pumpkin goodness stuffed inside of perfectly cooked French Toast topped with walnuts. Heaven! Paired perfectly with coffee and I added bacon on the side. It was so filling I skipped lunch! And loved that all of the staff were in costumes for Halloween, even at 9 AM. Arrived before open time at 5:00pm. Anxious to experience a new restaurant. After getting seated, our server took our drink orders. It seemed to take a while even though the restaurant was mostly empty our drinks. First we ordered an appetizer of chicken planks with butter, garlic, Parmesan. Our server did check back once and to take our dinner order of a soup flight and sousvive short ribs over mashed potatoes. After finishing the appetizer we waited for quite a while for diners. Finally our server stopped and mentioned something happened in the kitchen and our meals would be out soon. After another long wait, we finally received our dinners. However, our server never stopped back to check with us about our dinners. As the restaurant started filling up we were getting close to finishing our meals. The hostess began watching us at our table making us feel uncomfortable and rushed to get out. Since we had a longer drive home, (about 50 minutes), we each thought a visit to restrooms would be prudent. While I was "busy" the hostess came to our table and wanted to take our drinks away. My wife said I was not done yet. The hostess made another trip to our table and asked if we received our check yet. The hostess hovered our table while we paid our check. I felt we were getting the bum rush a.k.a. Hurry up and leave. The food was ok but, the service left a lot to be desired and the ignorance of the hostess hovering over us is unforgivable. read more

One of the reviews we read was "A hidden gem," that is putting it mildly. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance. Inside has a cozy, friendly feel to it. We had the crab cake and sous vide chicken. We've had crab cakes on the east coast and even Maryland and I have to report that the crab cake we had here by far was the best we ever had! The "hostess" on more than one occasion has literally turned her back on us once rudely informing me that their (mostly empty restaurant) had no room for us. There is one (relatively tall very thin) waitress who has literally cried when taking our order because she was 'too overwhelmed' - with 1 other table and 3-4 people at the bar. The food is really good here, the waitresses are very friendly and do their best with the staffing issues, however the owner herself needs some training in customer service and customer interaction!! We are there normally once a week, and she has never once even smiled as she was walking past us. As an owner, you would think she would make a point to at least say hello and how is everything. She never even smiles , unless it someone she knows. We are at the point that we don't even like supporting her business because of her attitude. I was so excited to try the soup flight. We got there when they opened at 5, placed our order shortly after. Wasn't a complicated order, 3 soup flights, 1 app, and 4 sandwiches. We waited about 45 minutes or so for the appetizer. We waited about 2 hours for our meals, I understand that it's busy and the new concept of soup flights is supposed to bring in business, which it has, but the fact that several tables were seated and ordered after us had already eaten and left before we even received our food was absurd. I'm usually pretty patient when it comes to waiting, I understand being busy, but if you're going to introduce a new and very popular menu item, you might want to reconsider how to handle the customer volume. The table next to us got soup flights, that's it, and they waited about 45 minutes or so for their order.. we ended up taking our food to go because we couldn't wait any longer after being there for 2 hours and just receiving our meals. We have given this place so many chances and we have been disappointed each time. I was so happy to finally try breakfast. The waitress was terrible, it was not busy at all. 2 guys at the bar and a couple other guys sitting at a table. I told her first time there. she didn't seem to care. asked about the crepes and she was like oh I don't know there not on menu. we ordered the food. took awhile, which ok. waited awhile to check on us.. we needed ketchup for my sons potatoes and he never got his French toast. she said "oh my bad" never did get French toast until we were completely done eating. not good customer service at all! we eat out at many local bars and restaraunts. Stopped here for breakfast with family before driving home. If you're going here on Sunday make a reservation. Apparently they are very busy on Sundays. The food here is excellent, probably why you need a reservation. We didn't know about the reservation so we sat at the bar. Very nice place and the food is not typical bar fare closer to restaurant food than bar food. I will stop back next time I'm in town and I'll be sure to make a reservation if it's on Sunday. Lol. One of my favorite spots in town- especially for breakfast! Food: a mixture of bar food and home cooking. Very good! The family owns a farm and many ingredients come from there...very cool. Prices are good and they have rotating drafts and a full bar. Some of my favorites are their country biscuits and gravy and crab cakes. Atmosphere: Quaint and cozy. No windows but they make up for that with cute decor and they have a beautiful hearth that is usually burning. Ooh it's in kernville I'm so scared...not. Street parking or in the adjacent lot. Service: owners and mother daughter team are real sweethearts. Don't come here if you're in a rush...as I mentioned before much of the food is homemade and their kitchen is on the small side - they are looking to expand though. I really wanted to like the thanksgiving menu. Have been to so many other places and this was closer and the more appealing option when having to transport 2 elderly people and one kid under 5. For starters, walked in and it felt like a sauna. With as many bodies as were piled in there, the heat should have never been turned on. Then, after we were seated we waited over 30 minutes for someone to get our drink order. Without getting up to ask, not sure they ever would have ever came. Then just got the bare minimum, didn't dare ask for water. Don't mind waiting a bit, but when other tables seated after your table get their drink orders, while our table is a combination of old people and a toddler....both with basically the same attention span, had to wait, and then a member of the party had to get up to asked to be served, then, don't get any cranberry sauce that every other table seemed to have. But sure as shit we had to pay the same. Not right. I feel for people that have to work holidays to a certain extent. At least this line of work can earn a pretty penny in tips expect for this kind of service. Obviously will never go back but sorta feeling like a refund for something is in order. read more

Although it's in a very sketchy part of town and I had been nervous about going there I was pleasantly surprised and mad I've waited so long to try it. We went with a group on Sunday morning for brunch. Although service was slow at first I believe it picked up because we had the owner of another local restaurant with us. The breakfast was one of the best I've ever had. The heart shaped biscuits were so cute and very tasty. Their buffet wasn't opened due to electrical issues and I would have gotten that with the $3 mimosas. I'm sad they didn't honor the $3 mimosa price due to the buffet not being opened. My first time visiting here was my friend's first night bartending. I ordered the turkey, bacon, Swiss wrap and it was delicious! The fries were seasoned perfectly as well. Very filling. The overall look of the place was pleasant, I loved the wall display for what was on tap. I watch the training my friend was getting behind the bar and the owner (the person training him) was kind and patient with him, explaining what he needed to do. We have taken many guests here when they visit and we are never disappointed. I would not recommend going if you are in a hurry. Very strange menu. It's like they're trying to be an upscale restaurant but serve bar food at the same time. I got a pulled pork wrap which was thoroughly disappointing. No veggies, cheese or anything. Meat in a tortilla. Not so flavorful, to say the least. I will comment that the sweet potato fries with dipping sauce are rather tasty. They have some good mixed drinks, but some are pretty basic and are a bit too expensive for what they entail. A mixed drink for that price should at least be served with some kind of garnish. We got our appetizer 30 minutes late, & cold. A single gentleman came in a half hour after us, and received his appetizer right away,. And his entree & salad a half hour before us! When we got our food we were so disgusted, that we ordered boxes, as our appetite was totally gone. And the food was mediocre. Mu French fries were mush, and my husband's stromboli mostly dough. One of the best breakfasts in town. The food is not only delicious but some of it is from her farm, such as the homemade sausage. Pancakes were phenomenal and eggs cooked to perfection. The service person was very attentive, professional and kind. The only reason I did not give a higher rating is because I keep hearing the owners make racist comments, not just once, but several times. I have not experienced that myself, but that also does not mean it is not true. I actually stopped going because of these rumors, not just from customers, but from people who actually worked there. I have always had a good experience with the owner, she actually catered my Aunt's wedding and the food and services was very, very good. I observed her treatment of the guests and she was very kind along with her workers. So, I went back to her restaurant once again and enjoyed my food and the atmosphere. I enjoyed it so much, that I decided to leave a review on Yelp, but before that I read what others were saying and once again, one of the reviewers stated she made racist comments. This is what she said, "Let me get to the owner. She sat down at our table, basically told us her life story and added some lovely racist commentary. Keep it classy, "momma so-and-so." Therefore, I am once again torn. I can't imagine so many people would make this up, but she just doesn't seem like she is a racist.
