Baked wings to go with blue cheese
    Pete G.

I stopped here to pick up a late lunch for take out. The bar tender was friendly, it's definitely a local hang out and I felt comfortable sitting at the bar area. I ordered the baked wings to go. Honestly I was really happy to find wings in PA that not only had great flavor but also were cooked perfectly. I'll have to try a smash burger next time I'm in the area.

If you're looking for standard bar food, this is your spot. It's very clean. Everyone working was extremely friendly and attentive which is always a win. Before we go any further.. it is kid friendly, but there is not a changing table so plan accordingly. We grabbed salsa and guacamole and the salsa had a nice smoky flavor to it. The cheese was a generous portion. You know how sometimes you end up with naked pretzels, which is always a disappointment. There was more than enough and we made sure to utilize our chips so it didn't go to waste. Everyone was happy with their sandwiches and I am not sure you can ever go wrong with housemade chips. There was a smash burger, a fish sandwich and pulled pork in the mix. A few were missing the pickled egg which was a bummer because it was definitely a unique and welcomed addition. The side salad (I know.. a side salad, but seriously worth mentioning) was done so well. Lots of great, fresh toppings and probably enough for two people. I can't say I'll make a special trip, but I'd likely stop back.

Build your own smash burger..smoked cheddar, applewood bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions! With the waffle fries. Very delicious!!

Wow!!! They started out with a bang!! I ordered their double roasted wings dry rubbed in Cajun seasoning...oh my goodness!! (I'm a wing connoisseur) I try to eat wings every where I go and these...wow!! Fabulous!! Top 5 on my list all time!! So, for my dinner I ordered what they're know for...the famous Smash Burger...I selected build your own...smoked cheddar, applewood bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and onion. I know what you're thinking...nothing special. But let me tell ya! Very very good!! Hannah provided great service and it was a really good atmosphere! I highly recommend you stop in and try this hidden gem! I'll be back!!

I love the feeling in here. The walls have fun photos & artwork. The bar is big and situated so people can actually converse if they so choose, the main area has booths all around the walls. Staff is always friendly and the food has been fabulous every time. I usually get The Alibi burger. It's pretty much perfect with juicy patty, fresh toppings, and aioli on a toasted bun. The fries are good and it's served with half of a pickled egg.

Very tasty and clean spot. Stopped here randomly for lunch and ordered deviled eggs, Turkey and cranberry panini, and the smoked juicy Lucy. Deviled eggs weren't bad, but a bit stiff. The panini and burger tasted great. Wish my panini had more sauce, but very tasty. Service was great too! Great place to go to watch the games!

I like that the Johnstown eatery scene is slowly emerging out of the sea of chain restaurants. I'm not saying that Johnstown never had an eatery scene, it's just that it has been muted. There are still the old standards in the area, but newer establishment like The Fifth are adding a freshness that Johnstown needed badly. The Fifth is basically what you would expect to find in a hustling, bustling downtown area. But you will find it in a strip mall, off the highway, in a hustling, bustling shopping district. I was never inside the business that resided here before which leaves me not knowing what it looked like before, but this place has an industrial meets farmhouse aesthetic. The big front windows allows for a lot of natural light to fill the space. It is roomy, and by the looks of things, big enough to accommodate for musical performances. When I came in here I was looking for a place to have lunch and I was tired of the usual places I have been to in the area. I walked in and I just went up to the bar and took a seat. I was greeted shortly thereafter by the bartender and had a menu in hand. I gave it quick once over, but was going back and forth over items. The bartender saw that was the case and pointed out the burgers were amazing here. With that, I went with their signature burger: The Alibi. Six ounce burger with perfectly melted smoked provolone. Placed on a toasted brioche with mixed greens, tomato, and garlic aioli. And with the advice from the bartender I upgraded to include the waffle fries. This is a hefty meal, there is no doubt about it. The burger was cooked perfectly and with it being encased by the cheese just trapped the flavor in. The garlic aioli was a nice compliment to everything on this burger. Let me address a few things here. Yes, they do serve pickled eggs with the meals. It clearly states that on the menu. If you don't like eggs, ask to not receive them. If you ordered, you read the menu, do your part and order correctly. Don't bad talk for your poor reading skills. And as for it being a limited menu, this is how a good eatery runs, they don't overpopulate the menu with unneeded items. This is how it is supposed to be, it is labelled as eatery and alehouse, not national, run-of-the-mill, chain. People of Johnstown and surrounding areas, learn to expand your palette and move away from the chains. Embrace your community and start to expect better food. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. Not bad for review 2,500! That's right, this is my 2,500th review. Yikes! That's amazing, and I'm happy to be writing it for such a welcomed addition to the Johnstown scene.

I wanted this to be a great experience. We sat at the bar and there were lots of very friendly people enjoying each other's company. We started with a beer and wine. FYI-The wine selection is very limited. We ordered cheese curds, a beef on Weck and a Black and blue cheese smash burger. Sadly, the food was poor to average. The cheese curds were plentiful but they were very greasy. The Beef on Weck was sad. The beef was over cooked and flavorless. The Weck bun was so hard it as more like a thick cracker. There was a dipping sauce but not enough to soften that bun. The burger was pretty good! The staff seemed very nice and service was fine.

The place was packed when we arrived but they were able to seat the large table in front of us and then us within 15-20 minutes. It was clean and seasonally decorated. There is no hostess so it took a bit to be acknowledged with the large crowd waiting as well. I don't think they were prepared to be busy on a Saturday night. The bar was backed up and the kitchen was in some serious weeds. The servers seemed overwhelmed. Server was very nice. We had our drink order taken within 5 minutes but then didn't get our drinks for about 15 minutes. The table next to us saw their drinks sitting on the bar for about 10 minutes and we're discussing whether they should go up and get them since they couldn't find our server. We ordered the Apple Cider Margarita and the Maple Old Fashioned. Both drinks were really good! Fun presentations, strong and just as you'd expect from the menu description. I was really looking forward to trying their Zucchini Planks as an appetizer but the server said they ran out earlier in the day. It's unfortunate they didn't have an option to replenish supplies for the dinner rush. It took at least 45 minutes to receive our food. Our server was apologetic when she brought it over but she didn't check in before that. We had been sitting at our table for well over an hour before receiving food. The food was decent and came out hot. Both of our favorite parts were the waffle fries. They were hot and crispy with nice flavor. We got ours with ranch which was made in house and delicious! The French Dip was ok. The bun of the fish sandwich was burnt and overpowered the fish. The fish was coated nicely but not crispy. I ended up eating the fish with a fork because the bread was inedible. We were going to do 4 stars but in the middle of our meal, the server of the tables behind us started dousing her tables in a bleach spray that smelled so strongly it overpowered the taste of everything. A woman at another table covered her nose with a napkin as she ate after the spray came out. It would've been a better option to spray on a rag and then wipe down rather than spray it into the air while people are eating in close proximity.

This is a nice bar and restaurant. I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express, next door within walking distance, and this was very convenient. I heard the prior place wasn't as nice, but this was a nice big bar, clean, with single people and families enjoying dinner there, and it had good food. My Italian Chicken Salad was very good and large. The next day I got the special soup: Guinness French Onion. The soup was a little too cold and salty, and the cheese was odd because it wasn't melted overtop, but a chunk was inside the soup. I ate it anyway and didn't mention anything. However, my Cuban Panini was really good, as were the house chips. I think I'd just suggest some seasoning on the chips b/c they didn't really even taste a little salted. My drinks were decent & the bartender on Monday was friendly. If you're at the motel or live nearby, check this place out! I may still return and try a burger - heard they were yummy. Thanks The 5th! * Update: with the weather, I ended up here a total of four times. The roasted chicken & red pepper panini was tasty (if you don't like pesto, talk to them before you order) with waffle fries. Additionally went there for lunch with a coworker, and had the smoked Juicy Lucy burger- two smaller thin patties, but very good.

Garlic parm wings (no parm) House Buffalo

My daughter was seeing a play in Johnstown and so my husband and I decided to try a local Eatery cause we don't come to Johnstown, like ever. So we started researching and came across The fifth. Right away it was really busy, which is always a great sign that food is good. We were seated and our waitress was on point. However I actually was pretty disappointed in the wings we ordered. I asked for extra crispy and they came out gummy, after the waitress says "oh they are doubled roasted" so I'm assuming no fried oil is used for there wings, which is fine if it would make them crispy. My husband got the house buffalo and it was okay , I've had a lot better , but it was a pretty average. If you like black pepper then this sauce is for you. I ordered a half garlic Parmesan and half house buffalo. So the parm wings are bland. The pictures I seen on here definitely didn't look like my wings. Our waitress kept forgetting about us. I asked for Parmesan for my wings cause none was on them when I asked for garlic parm. So I asked my waitress to bring me parm please. 15 minutes later she brings me butter. But I'm not one to complain when she was busy , so I sucked it up. I do not recommend the garlic sauce it's like tasteless butter with spices. Would I recommend this place, sure cause everyone deserves to try a new place but will I ever go back, probably not , only because if I have to drive to Johnstown I'll try another shop. They were very quick at getting food out, the atmosphere was fun, it was a very nice place. Just not how I like it but everyone is different. I will say the Seafood dip was on FIRE! That now was one of the best dips I ate! I ABSOLUTELY recommend the seafood dip. The naan bread is sooo good!

Great place. Found it by looking on Yelp. I had the tuna melt and my wife had the fish sandwich. Both were great. We got it with chips and they were nice and crunchy. Food came out fast and hot and the beer was cold. Nice pickled egg. Better than the pickle no one eats.

    Berry salad and chips
    Abby S.

Update: I now have cravings for the berry salad - specifically for the roasted nuts on said salad. Sometimes I lay in bed at night thinking about it. The next day finds me on the phone, ordering one for takeout. So - beware - you may form an addiction to something on this menu!

Anyone who regularly travels the Pennsylvania Turnpike knows how hard it is to find a truly memorable place to eat. This one is absolutely worth the short detour. The atmosphere is charming, the view is beautiful, and the food exceeded every expectation. We had to try their famous mushroom soup, and even though I'm not normally a mushroom fan, it was hands-down one of the best cups of soup I've ever had. The smoked salmon salad was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the Filet Mignon Sandwich special, and every bite was packed with incredible flavor. Our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. She made us feel right at home and added to what was already a wonderful dining experience. We finished with the Bananas Foster. While it wasn't the tableside flaming presentation you'd find at a fine-dining restaurant, the flavor was outstanding and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. We'll definitely be making Out of the Fire Café a tradition on our future trips. If you're traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike, do yourself a favor and make the stop--you won't regret it!
