I have seen reviews from parents that obviously know nothing about what it takes for your child to understand what it takes to being involved with a horse other than what they wear. It sounded like u had no understanding on their incorporation of the well being of your child as well as the horse. Obviously you wanted your childs experience to be "dress up, stand and then have the horse presented to them all tacked up and ready to go. I understand from some of the texts exchanged between the complaining client and the ranch response. You do not understand how much this type of program has to offer to your child and perhaps yourself If u do not understand the challenges that a ranch handles after an extreme rain. They are looking after their horses by not having them working in a rain soaked arena. (A horse could and probably would pull a tendon slip and fall with a child aboard including the injuries to the horse.) I have worked with the children of the military without charge. My only screening was I handed the child a stall picker and ask them to clean a stall. If they refused and no matter what the parents said I passed. My suggestion on the one parent complaining .... buy your child some jewelry. At least it has no requirements. My question to all parents what do u want your child to learn that will prepare them for their future. This type of program will not only benefit your child but could help his/her parents as well. Or, your child will grow up thinking life owes them and all they have to do is wait for what they want and life will hand it to them. OR, if they put hard work in there is a possibility of reaching the goals the have set for themselves and when they reach that goal it will give them the gift of pride in themselves. read more

Enjoyed meeting - and getting to know - "Woody," a lovely German Warmblood hunter-class horse. Woody actually nickered (horse for "I'm lovin' it!") when Jen let me groom him after showing me how. FYI - Woody really likes having the right side of his neck curried & brushed! I learned how to safely approach horses, curry comb, brush, groom the mane, clean hooves, and lead...all in one lesson!! As an adult learner, I appreciate that Jen customizes her teaching approach. She correctly judged how much guidance I needed, both by observing me and seeing Woody's reactions. Jen is wonderful!! We board our horses here and I never have to worry about how they are being cared for. Jen loves those horses and is very knowledgeable. My 4-year-old son loves coming to the barn to visit and to ride. I would highly recommend their lesson program. You will really learn how to care for horses as well as how to ride when you take lessons here. She is very detail oriented and a great teacher! I have ridden, competed, and taught for years before I had my son so I am very familiar with how a good barn is run. The facility is nice and well cared for and the horses are also very well taken care of. You won't find another place that loves their horses as much as Jen does! read more

I've been riding with Cornerstone since my previous barn closed 11 years ago. I chose this barn primarily because of its location (there are so few decent barns that are so close to central Austin), and secondly I felt it could further my progress in reaching the goals I was interested in. I moved there having little showing experience, but wanting to move forward, past what was offered or available at my previous barn. The first time I saw the farm I knew I would love it, with its beautiful pastures, clean and well-kept barns, and menagerie of animals roaming the property. Since day one Heather and Jen both jumped through hoop after hoop to get me to the levels I wanted to achieve. They went above and beyond for me not only in purchasing and selling horses, dealing with my (at times) difficult parents, sometimes lack of income, and numerous other life obstacles but they always put my education first. The barn became more than a place for me to take lessons and keep my horse, but more of a second home for me. I learned more about proper horse care, what horses actually feel and need, and riding correctly than any of the other barns I have ridden with (2 others in Texas, 1 in Iowa) and have confidence I would have never gained elsewhere. After riding with Jen for several years I joined the Texas State Equestrian Team and competed with the team for a few years, taking lessons on the side with Jen whenever possible. When I made it to nationals on the team I immediately asked Jen to go with me, her knowledge and support being the most important to me. Having her there was more important than anyone else to me, because I trusted her to give me the coaching that I knew how to understand and benefit from most thoroughly. Now, after my competing days are (likely) behind me, the barn has once again become a second home, where I always feel free to come out and ride, play with goats, sheep, dogs, and ponies, and spend time learning from Heather and Jen in a new way. I agree with the prior reviewer regarding the care each horse in Jen's barn receives. She cares for them as though each one belonged to her. Incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help anyone. I agree with the prior reviewer that she holds herself to a high standard and thus requires the same from her students. If you want to be better than you are right now and are dedicated to the sport then Cornerstone is for you. She is not only a great teacher but a phenomenal trainer. Truly understands how to unlock the mysteries of each individual. Jens real love is hunter/jumper but she has helped me tremendously with my English Pleasure Arabian when no one else in Austin could so is very much open to exploring other disciplines and breeds. It's the time of year when parents are signing up their children for summer camp. Last year at this time, we were excited to sign up our daughter for summer camp at Cornerstone Farm. She chose horse camp above other things, and sacrificed other camps to go to Cornerstone Farm, as the cost was more than we would normally pay for a camp ($400/week). We were so disappointed and concerned about our daughter's safety at this "camp". We pulled our child after 2 days. Our 9 year old child was left unsupervised with 2 other young campers and horses while the owner tended to other business on the "farm". She was given a walkie talkie to call the owner if there were any issues. This was completely unacceptable to us. Our child was a beginner and had never been around horses. She should never have been put in danger with a large, unpredictable animal. We were promised, both verbally and in writing, a partial refund of $250. We never received that money despite multiple attempts to reach the owner. She always responded that she simply did not have the money to return to us. She asked us to take down our 1 star google review, and promised if we did, she would give us our refund. Cornerstone Farm has since moved locations. I hope that they no longer offer "summer camp". If they do, and you are considering this camp for your child, do your research and ask the right questions. Do a site visit. Ask how many adults will be working the camp and what the camper to adult ratio is. I wish I had had asked these questions in advance. read more

We enrolled our 9-year old daughter in camp the summer of 2019. We pulled our daughter after 2 days of camp. Jen Shaw did not supervise our child. She was left alone with horses, with 2 other young girls. She was given a walkie talkie to communicate with Jen when Jen was out on other parts of the "farm." She left the 3 girls alone multiple times, including during pick-up. The first day I arrived at pick-up, my daughter was in Jen's house alone. Jen was down about 200 yards, washing horse equipment. She also showered after I dropped my daughter off at camp one morning. After pulling our daughter and expressing our concerns, and after arguing with us, Jen Shaw promised us a partial refund of $250. We have this promise in writing. We never received this refund, despite contacting Jen Shaw multiple times. Please do not sign your child up for camp at Cornerstone Farm. Dont make the same mistake we did. read more

I have continued to work with and visit the barn over the years... and all the wonderful things about it have not changed. The horses are given fantastic care and Jen's training is truly top notch. She is great with a wide variety of horses and is very successful. In addition, she has also opened up an excellent lesson program and is more willing than ever to work with new riders or non-showing horse enthusiasts. As mentioned in my previous review, she certainly has high standards, and will expect you to ride your horse to the best of your ability. But, this is one of the best qualities of the barn. I'm so thankful for Jen! We moved our mare from the Corpus area and after boarding our horse, Faith, in Dripping Springs for the first two months we were here, I was ecstatic to find Cornerstone Farm right here in Leander (our new residence) where she is not only boarding her for us but also has her in training. Even after we were told that Faith was very problematic (putting it mildly), Jen took her in and within 30 minutes of Faith being there Jen was able to walk right up to her and begin working with her. I know that it's because of the love she has for all of her horses, including mine. They love and trust her! She treats them all like her own and knows what each of them need, takes time to know and learn their quirkiness. She has an open door policy and is always, always on hand at the barn. I appreciate that I can go see Faith whenever I want to, while being respectful of training times and of course her own time. She is so knowledgeable and straightforward. Communication is important to me and I know that I can call Jen anytime to get updates on Faith, if I'm not able to be there. Or that she will call me if she has a concern I need to be aware of. We are blessed that Faith is in her care at Cornerstone Farm. She is prospering - growing and learning and I'm forever grateful that Jen gave her a chance to prove that she's as beautiful and capable as I've always known her to be. She has done the Opposite by saying that she doesn't have the money to give me and when I have pleaded with her to return it she has threatened me and ignored me! I texted her again today after seeing her post and asked her to refund it and no response whatsoever!! Please use caution in any dealings with her and her ranch and you can verify this by asking for a copy of the police report with the Leander Police Department. The police report # is 16071325. Please specifically ask for this number as I was informed by the police that they have been to her property many times for disturbances and complaints. Jen's fantastic! I had visitors in from out of town during the holidays and Jen made scheduling a couple of lessons for my family and out of town guests so easy. She was very flexible as our plans kept changing and she made our visit to her stables incredibly memorable. We had a good mix of beginner and experienced riders and Jen was able to accommodate them all. Her horses are beautiful, and her location and value can't be beat. We came to cornerstone in December and after Jen teasing my daughter the first week she was there and then not blanketing on a very cold night we decided to leave. I was told that I would have my deposit back after 30 days. The time came and went and jen refused to answer texts and calls for days. She then gave us a new date a few weeks later, again no money. We asked her to pick the date and how much she would give us. Every time she has lied, we meet at the house at the time she says and she isnt there, you then try calling and she wont answer. I have all the texts if anyone wants proof. I was in fear of my horses well being when she didnt blanket him and then said he was so upset he worked himself into a sweat so thats why she didnt blanket him. She never bothered to call and tell us he was upset in a new enviroment, I would think if your horse is so upset he is sweating and cant be blanketed in 35 degree weather you should call the owners and let them know. I was there for 3 weeks and paid 540 for the month, I am out the 400 dollar deposit. She made sure to text me to find out the exact date we were leaving but doesnt complete her commitment. Between the bad manners, cussing , smoking, calling my kid names, not feeding my horse enough and not blanketing like she said she would I cannot say this is a place I would keep my horse. We are now taking her to court to get our deposit back. 3 times I have taken the check to the bank and it has bounced each time. if you love your horse find a good place. read more

This barn is awesome! I have been out here multiple times. Jen is a great person and an excellent trainer. When I was younger I had an accident and broke my arm when i fell off my horse. I found Jen at Cornerstone and she was great dealing with me and my fear of riding. She never pushed me too hard and she always made sure to put me on a horse that was safe and easy going.
