I used this law firm to settle my divorce. I paid up front before the divorce hearings were over somewhere around $20,000. When it was over, I still owed $18,000. I agreed to pay 500/month to pay the remainder off. The next year when I tried to get a mortgage, I found out they have a lien on my credit report and therefore I can't get a mortgage until that is off. When I contacted them, they agreed to take it off If I agreed to settle it for a lump sum of 15,000. Well I started with 18,100 and have been paying a monthly payment with an interest rate of 1.5% for close to a year so I don't think that is much of a settlement. They act as if they're doing me a favor, but I dont' even owe that much any more. If I had known that owing them money would prevent me from getting loans, I wouldn't have used them. I didn't even win the custody hearing since the kids would have had to change schools and they didn't want to move. I had always been a stay at home mom for 20 years (2 youngest kids were 13 and 15) and my ex had admitted to traveling extensively and never having a hand in raising the kids. After all that money was spent and I lost, the kids hated living with their dad so much, they ended up changing schools to live with me anyway. What a waste of money.
I need to add one more thing since this attorney has threatened to get me for malicious intent if I don't include one other fact. He wanted me to cash in my retirement and pay large penalties and taxes to pay him the balance and I didn't agree so he started court proceedings. I emailed him and told him that I didn't think the court would make me take a 20,000 dollar hit in penalties and taxes so I guess I would have to show up in court. At that time, he agreed to drop the court case and agreed to a monthly payment. read more
