I discovered the shop a few weeks ago when I noticed one of my tires was low in our new car and I couldn't figure out why every time I filled it with air it would still go back to being low... Sebastian was quick to discover that I had a tiny nail in one of my tires. Oops! He ended up catching it on the spot. I had two options (which I forgot what they were hahaha) but opted to get it patched and I have not had any issues since. The interaction that I had with Sebastian was very positive; he made me feel comfortable as a woman that knows nothing about cars and was kind and communicative. We have an older vehicle that also needed servicing, so I decided to take it here based on that small interaction! The following week I brought our other older vehicle for some TLC: an oil change, tuneup, new tires, front brake pad replacement, and some thing else but I forgot haha There was a minor discovery when they were doing the job and called me immediately to tell me what the issue was and to receive my authorization to fix it (a gasket, or some thing had a crack in it no biggie). Thanks to Sebastian and the Cortez staff, I am no longer paranoid driving our older car back-and-forth to work. Awesome customer service + skilled mechanics + fair, pricing = extreme value! I wholeheartedly agree that Sebastian is the reason for the great reviews here. He is an earnest, honest and extremely pleasant mechanic. I came here twice with screws in my tires in the summer - pretty bad luck there but at least it was just to patch a tire. Wasn't too impressed with prices going up in a matter of a month. My husband took the same car about a month ago for the same thing and the prices were better for a tire patch. Anyway, I credit Sebastian for making me want to go back for service. Update: After consulting more honest and qualified professional mechanics, I can confirm that Cortez Auto indeed damaged our A/C. (We documented video and photo evidence for proof) They punctured the hose. And what's worse, is they not only lied about it(see original review), but tried to cover it up in the most shady way. They disconnected the hood latch and my dumbass didn't think to have them open it there at the shop to show me the new radiator--could've caught it there. Instead I have now spent a lot of time and a lot of extra money repairing the hood latch and discovering the ac hose puncture. Both things that worked perfectly well before bringing my vehicle to this shop--in other words I'm now repairing things that the shop damaged. No wonder Sebastian wouldn't even offer to look into the damaged A/C, he knew exactly what happened. We now will have to pay a lot of money to have the ac repaired and will continue to pursue ways of holding Cortez auto, and especially Sebastian liable for the damage they caused and their egregious lies. read more

I wanted a tune up ,they said its an oil change and filter. Spark plugs are extra. They charged me a ridiculous amount of money for a terrible job. Please stay away the owner was already drunk before 5. The service was awful the establishment was a pig style environment. No mask were ever worn. Stay away unless you want to be ripped . I live down the street from this shop and decided to see how much they charged for a new catalytic converter. I kinda was surprised at the estimate I was given because other places were charging way higher! They guys were all really nice. While they worked on my car. I just walked home and waited for their call when they were done. But they didnt call. But it's not a big deal since it was my day off and had no plans. All in all. I moved from Highland Park to South L.A. and kept bringing back my Jeep for repairs to this shop. Now I live in Inglewood (half mile away from the Airport) and still coming to Highland Park to see Jesse.. shake hands, talk about our lives and have a professional maintenance service on my Jeep. There are a lot of mechanic shops in my area, along the way from Inglewood to Highland Park. I was acknowledged by Anthony right away. I told him about the history of work that had been done on the car elsewhere and how my problem continued. After my own self diagnostics and endless reddit threads I narrowed an idea of what may be wrong with the car. Anthony acknowledged my troubleshooting and gave me an estimate of the repair. He also gave a quick visual inspection and suggested other repairs that I agreed to. I finally have my power steering fixed. Got new battery terminals and rear brakes. It was all reasonably priced and I got a couple of bucks off for getting the suggested repairs done as well. Great customer service and very informative as well. I will be referring people here and I'll continue to come here as long as their customer service is upheld and their prices are competitive. This auto shop has great prices, fast turn around times and can take you in the same day. I went in for my front brakes to be serviced. I called for a quote, they gave me a price and asked if I could take it in that day and they agreed. I see some of the reviews that say they have bad "customer service," they are serious but not rude. It's an auto shop, if you want sweet talk go to strip club lol! Sebastian is great! I live nearby and have brought my car in a few times for an oil change, a tire patch, and battery replacement. Each time I was in a bit of a hurry and he accommodated my schedule even when he was busy so I could get to work on time with a functional car. I work 20 miles away so he's truly been a lifesaver! On my most recent visit I parked my car across the street and it would not start to bring it into the shop. He was so nice and didn't charge me any extra to bring a truck to my car just to jump it so he could even look at it. Their prices are very honest and reasonable. They will not do the best job. I asked them to install a transmission to the car. The car was not in running condition. They didnt even know how to change the shifter position when installing it. They tried to upsell me on a 5 min shifter linkage job as $150 labor no parts included. What i got back was a car with a messed up harness ,non starting car, a transmission with no fluid and they charged me $200 on top of the original quoted price. Now i have to wait for my acura aparts to ship from overseas to fix the damage they caused.they even upselled my friends clutchjob because they would threat him with "it may or may no work" just for a clutch pressure plate. Those parts can be shipped the same day online. Only guy that trust worthy is jesse and 2 other guys. read more

Bad customer service. I called for a quote and tge guy who answered had me on hold for 25 mins he seemed like he did not know what he was doing. Also he told me that for uninstall an ac compressor and install it labor was going to be 300 he said that it would take 3 hours to uninstall and 3 to install it. I said it was too expensive and he started taking bad about other places like if they were perfect. Sorry but no one is and if a customer calls for a quote, they should be nice and kind to other businesses. I would not take my car there ever nor would i referred friends there. Was recommended Cortez Auto Service after my battery kept draining due to some electrical issues. They diagnosed the issue in and day as well as found my oil was leaking, and got it back to me completely all fixed the following day. They were kind, responsive, professional and even walked me to my car to make sure everything worked perfectly once I turned the key. Driving up this part of Fig, you're barraged with auto repair shops - so many you might not ever notice Cortez Auto. But you should. These guys are fast, comparably inexpensive, they know their stuff... and most of all they are trustworthy. Brought my Wrangler in for a knocking engine. Jesse took a look at it on the spot and diagnosed possible problems. They gave me a very reasonable quote on what it would cost to repair... and he even had an engine out to show me what could happen if it was not repaired. The guys will educate you as much or as little as you'd like on the problem. But then he told me that the drive-train should still be under warranty from Jeep. He made a call - and it was. So he told me to take it to the dealership... saving me a couple thousand bucks. I will absolutely go back there for out-of-warranty problems in the future. I never write reviews, but man oh man do these guys deserve one! As a female, I'm often weary of mechanics. When I stopped here, though, I realized I had found my car's new doctors. First good sign- Jesse asked to go for a spin in my car to hear what I was hearing and feeling what I was feeling in my car. He was conversational and professional. Most importantly, he didn't sugar coat anything. Second- he gave me options. My car needed a tune up quite badly, and so he offered me two tune ups at different prices and obviously offering different things. He listened to my financial logic and provided advice based on that. He is also great in his approach to business. He did not show an ounce of annoyance when I asked if I could take a moment to call someone and discuss pricing. Most places look at a woman and overprice things. They confuse some of us with the language and jargon of mechanics. Not these guys. Not Jesse. 3rd- they made me feel comfortable. I felt safe. Not at all out of place. BAD service all in all. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. I just spent $820.00 to replace my computer, fuel pump and the timing belt. they called me to pick up my car and i notice my front bumper was cracked so they had to replace my bumper. Check engine light came on the next day [going to take it to a different shop for this]. I notice when i opened up the hood of the car a lot of hoses weren't put back right. i had to put them in it's clamps myself. The fuel pump is underneath my back seat and when i went to clean my car up the back seat wasn't put in right it was all loose. And the last thing, had to replace my floor mats because of grease or oil stains. Like i said, BAD service all in all!! read more
