Took my car into them wanting to check out a minor and new issue that I noticed with my transmission. Asked them if they thought anything of it. One of the main issues was that it was idling very rough. They kept the car for 3 days, missing a few deadlines. And supposedly checked a few things, and drove it around a lot. They came back to me and said that nothing was wrong and not to worry about it. And when I specifically asked if a bad torque converter could cause my problems, they said no it could not. Well, almost exactly a week after I took the car back, my torque converter catastrophically broke, leaving me with a very costly repair that could have been avoided if they had properly checked everything and had proper knowledge. read more

My regular mechanic told me I had to replace my vehicle's transaxle and u-joint, but the transmission repair fella he recommended had moved his business to Idaho, so I went to Bernie's Transmission instead, after reading their positive reviews and talking to Leo on the phone. I was at the shop 45 min later, and after raising my pickup truck on lifts, Leo told me that the transaxle and u-joint were fine. The scraping noise my mechanic attributed to the transaxle, was actually coming from the front passenger wheel, which Leo quickly resolved, saving me several hundred dollars. Long story short, they checked my car out and told me everything was fine and the repair in question was not necessary, talk about honesty! I left my car for 1 day overnight To check what was wrong with my car. I had a wheelchair on the trunk of my car. I spoke to Leo gave me price $3800.00 for rebuild transmission. I left home and was going to think about what I was going to do first either to rebuild transmission or put a new one. I noticed my wheelchair I keep on my back of my trunk of my car to take my brother to dyalsis center was stolen. I know wheelchair was there before I droped off my car at Bernie"s transmission. I went back to shop to talk to LEO to check his Camaras in his shop he refused. So I had to call the cops so police can speck to Leo . The police said to take LEO to small claims court to request footage for that day on his cameras. For a few months, my car had been juddering while downshifting. I had the transmission oil changed by my mechanic, but the problem didn't get better so I decided to suck it up and take it to a transmission shop. I was fully prepared to spend a couple thousand dollars on a transmission rebuild. I've been burned by AAMCO in the past so, after a lot of research, I brought my car to Bernie's. After leaving my car there for diagnosis, Leo told me he didn't find any problem with the transmission, but there was a check engine code for random engine misfires and the car probably only needed new spark plugs to fix the problem. He charged be nothing for the diagnosis, and since they specialize only in transmissions, I couldn't even pay him to do the spark plug job. I took the car over to my mechanic and it was fixed for only a couple hundred dollars. Leo and his staff are so honest, and saved me literally thousands of dollars, to no benefit of their own. I really liked these guys. I felt they were honest and did good work, however they did seem a little swamped with jobs, and it took them a couple weeks to be able to work on my shuttle bus. Once they got my bus in the shop it only took them a day or so to take out my old transmission and put in a used transmission I had shipped to them via freight. They charged me a flat fee of $900 to swap the transmission, change a couple gaskets and fill it with fluid. I would trust them with a transmission rebuild - they know what they're doing! read more

I went to Bernie's for a 2nd opinion. Another company who did not specialize in transmissions told me instead of fixing my leak I should rebuild my transmission. I'm happy I found Bernie's Transmission. Both Leo and Uriel were professional and fixed the leak and said I didn't need my transmission rebuilt. A month and change ago the 'transmission failsafe' warning started going off sporadically in my BMW 5 series- locking my transmission into 4th gear. Damn. A diagnostic fix by my own indie shop didn't help, so I took it to a dealer (BMW of Monrovia - don't go there for anything. their sales staff is just as clueless as their service dept) who hardly bothered to inspect the problem determining that the transmission needed to be replaced. They walked me through their decision tree and apparently they didn't even get that it could be a problem with the sensors or solenoids nor did they even care to inspect. I guess it just seemed ok that the natural life of a transmission should be 120k miles and that was that. I quickly looked around on yelp for a shop and Bernie's came up. I dropped by one day and I saw stalls with transmissions being rebuilt and I knew I was in the right place Leo at the garage made sure to take good care of me. He personally hasn't worked on (many?) ZF transmissions and at first glance he wasn't sure of the answer but he called in a friend so that he wouldn't just jump to replacing my transmission. Together they figured out that my suspicion had been right on - that it was some stuck solenoids. Prior to then, he said that he'd be fine with installing a cheap tranny I found at a nearby junkyard. When I came in and I checked out the car, I felt good giving the check for the repair knowing they had saved me thousands. These guys know what they're doing and they're a serious shop. It took some time for them to get to my car- roughly 2 weeks total. While it took longer than I would have expected, it's because they were probably helping others as much as they were helping me. It's no wonder their garage is always packed. If you have transmission issues, go to Bernie's. Simple as that. Don't waste time elsewhere. read more

Just got back from Bernie's Transmission, and I really wanted to make sure this place gets its recognition. I promised these guys I would give them a good review because they definitely deserve it. Danny helped me out and immediately put my car up and checked out my transmission fluid leak. I was really afraid it would be tons of money to fix up my transmission, but I found out that my problem wasn't as bad as I thought it out to be. He calmed me down immediately, and I got a great quote. He said he could fix it within 1.5 hours, but he and the guys actually did it in less than an hour, and a darn great job at that. Danny actually spent some time explaining to me what he was changing, and after all was done, he showed me what they had fixed and made sure I was welcome. Leo is excellent and a life saver. My transmission was vibrating, having issues going into gear and sounded like it was grinding in first and second gear, at low RPMs. I got quotes from a few other shops in the area that it would be upwards of $2500. Beyond that, my car had 172k miles on it. I took it to Leo, and within two days, he'd diagnosed the problem and resolved the issues for under $1000. He also made it a point to note that the clutch, flywheel and gears were all fine. A few loose bolts and a loose bearing in the transmission housing. Would recommend to friends, family and anyone else in need of transmission issues. Honest and reliable. A few weeks ago, my 1999 Toyota Camry V6 LE, with around 175,000 miles on it, started occasionally shifting a little hard from park into drive and reverse. I also thought I had felt the tranny slip once or twice momentarily on the freeway. I found Bernie's on Yelp, dropped in one morning, and was greeted by Uriel. I told him what I had been experiencing. He asked when I last had my tranny fluid replaced (I told him about 3 years earlier), and he took a look at my tranny fluid, etc. He said everything looked good and not to worry and just to keep driving until I had more serious problems. He said that it was not a safety issue yet, and he noted that to replace the transmission on a car like mine would run around $2,000. The car has been running well since that visit (almost as if just taking the car to Bernie's scared the tranny back into working smoothly). But, because it has been more than 30,000 miles since my last tranny service (fluid and filter change), I decided it was time to do it again so I got quotes through Yelp from a few tranny shops, including Bernie's. Bernie's quote ($160) wasn't the cheapest ($95 to $145 estimate from another shop), but it also wasn't the most expensive ($210 from another shop). Because Uriel had earlier seemed very honest (i.e., didn't push me to replace my tranny) and because of Bernie's great reviews, I brought the car in at 8 a.m. this past Saturday for the tranny service. Uriel greeted me. I asked him if he would be able to get me the car back by 11 a.m. because of a meeting later in the afternoon. He said Yes, he could do it. Just past 11 a.m., Leo called to let me know it was done. When I picked it up, I asked Leo how much to replace a tranny if I ever needed one. He said around $2,000 (which is what Uriel had quoted earlier). So far, my car continues to drive well. I've found Uriel and Leo to be very honest and good mechanics. Leo was a nice enough person but i had nothing but problems from the get go. I have a 1997 Acura Cl that I brought in for a transmission rebuild. I paid the $3000.00 price to have it done expecting a like new Trans. Something was wrong. Like an idiot I left it again with the reassurance the the problems would be resolved. After another $1200.00 it pretty much self imploded. Oh I only put 190 on the tranny total. The check engine light came on and needless to say that was the beginning of my smog check nightmare. Unfortunately I had to have the transmission rebuilt on my 2000 Toyota 4Runner. These guys took my truck in late on a Friday to test drive it and try to duplicate the issue (engine stalling when cold.) No other shop would take the time to duplicate the actual issue, they just said it had to be rebuilt. So they won me over there. They called me the following Monday to tell me the transmission blew when they were test driving it. I was shocked but I tried it myself and sure enough it had 4 neutrals. At least it blew in the possession of a transmission shop. I told them to go ahead with the rebuild and it ran me $2,200 which is on the lower side of the estimates I received. I knew it was going to be awhile because it was right before Thanksgiving. It was there for 3 weeks. I just got it back and the tranny is smooth and tight now. Time will tell but I'm confident it was done right. Leo and Uriel are 2 cool guys. They talk to you like they care and they complimented my truck. Definitely recommend. read more

I am reading review after review and wondering how the hell they're so good. Leo has had our Honda at his shop for a month, and nothing. My husband has called MORE THAN once and Leo keeps saying he'll get back to him. We finally went in and Leo told us he called but there was no answer and he didn't leave a message. This the second time this has happened to us and I don't know why my husband continues to go. This is a horrible place, but the reviews i'm reading are from White people. Maybe, Leo gives them better and quicker service. We finally decided to pick up our car and go to a place where we would be respected. I went to bernies yesterday after going to 3 different transmission places. I was told everything from, it being a selanoid, body valve, to "you have to replace your whole transmission, and that'll be $2,395". I was so stressed out i couldnt get a straight answer. As i was headed home my father mentioned Bernies. I called and spoke to Leo. I felt so relaxed right off the bat ! He sounded so calm and answered all my questions. He wasnt pushy or sketchy like these other guys. I drove to the shop, he test drove it comes back and says theres nothing wrong with your tahoe. Im was shocked. He ressured me it was fine. I was waiting to write my first review until I'd find a place that really deserved a 5 STAR rating. People usually give 5 stars way too easy or maybe their standards are very low. I have never felt so welcome at a auto shop. Since the time i called to ask for their business hours Leo made me feel as a friend. I actually went to this place based on their reviews and i want to thank all yelpers on this page. I went to AAMCO for a quote and they said that my transmission needed to be refurnished and probably needed a new one. They quoted me from $1,200 - $1,900. I went to another shop and they quoted me at $800. Finally i decided to look online and found Bernie's. Leo found the problem. It was a simple leak. I paid only $220 and he fixed the leak, change all the fluids and filter in the transmission, and changed the engine oil and filter as well. This is the first time a find a HONEST Mechanic and he can be sure that he will be my #1 choice from now on. At the end of my visit he asked me.... how did you find my place? Internet? Yelp?...... lol Leo actually checks out YELP to view the reviews of his business and I want to tell you all that he thanks all of you because thanks to us he is making business a penny at a time as he says but a honest-well-earned -penny. I came here this last weekend because I had my check engine light reading done and there were a bunch of transmission-related issues that I wanted checked out. I took it to Bernie's in the morning and they called me back later to pick up the car, that they had checked out the transmission and had found no issues. No charge. I will definitely be back when there's transmission work that actually needs to be done. The last place I took my car to wanted me to pay to have them even take a look at the transmission when I was already paying $400 for the power window motor to be replaced. The transmission in my 2002 Honda Accord started to fail, and based on Yelp reviews I went to Bernie's. Leo charged me nothing for a diagnosis, whether I decided to go ahead with repairs or not. Unfortunately, it was time to rebuild the transmission, but I feel that I was charged a fair price ($2,100 before tax, and the whole thing came, with tax, to under $2,200). Great work! Thanks Leo. My clutch went out on a big hill and rolled back into a churches driveway. I had to have it towed out of there before everybody came in. The 1st place I thought of was Bernie's because of the rep they have around here. So Sunday morning I have it towed here hoping to just drop it off near by and push it in when they're open. But they just happened to drop by so I got to leave it in the yard and two days later drove it out for a lot less than I thought. And it's got a warranty! read more

Leo is one honest mechanic, brought my Escalade in for a new tranny and told me the he cld rebuilt the tranny for a decent price but Leo recommended to buy the tranny for the dealer for an extra hundred $'s more n get the 3 yrs 100K warranty thus cutting himself out of the extra $ charged me just for the installation. Picked up my truck 2 days later running like new. I highly recommend this shop for your transmission issues Leo will do what's best for his customers a rare thing now n days! Leo is the man! read more
