Like what many other reviews say, Universal Automotive is very reasonably priced and did not attempt to upsell me on anything nor did they try to rip me off. I requested them to do a full safety check on my 2012 Honda. There were no existing problems I could discern but it has been at least 3-4 years since I've had a comprehensive look at the vehicle and I wanted it checked out to be on the safe side. They changed the oil and some of the other fluids, advised I should get the shocks changed on the next visit but otherwise did not tack on anything else. My car drives great and was only charged $180. Had I attempted to have this done at a Honda dealer, it would been more than twice as much. This place doesn't look like much and a lot of their mechanics smoke (not in your car at least), but they seemed to do the job I asked without trying to cheat me and that's what counts. Instead of replacing it, the mechanic offered to tighten it/glue it and see how it holds up first. Currently, it has been holding up with no issues, but he told me to give them a call if it doesn't hold up so they can order the part. Service was pretty quick. I went on a Friday morning and it looked decently busy. I expected to wait 3-4 hours as I walked to a nearby coffee shop while I waited for my car to finish. I was thoroughly surprised to receive a text within 2 hours, stating my car was ready. Will definitely be coming back here for future car tune ups.

Most recently, I was dealing with a check-engine light while trying to get my Jeep ready for its required STAR smog test. Mike and Fred didn't simply replace parts based on a diagnostic code. They took the time to determine what was actually wrong before I spent the money. They diagnosed a failed EGR valve and also discovered a cracked spark plug that was affecting how the Jeep was running. They showed me what they found and explained everything clearly so I understood why the repairs were necessary. What I appreciate most is that Mike and Fred are thorough, knowledgeable and meticulous. Their prices have been fair, and I never feel as though they are trying to sell me repairs I don't need. Instead, I feel like they genuinely care about keeping my Jeep safe and running well. Taking it to the Ford Dealer, they told me I needed a new TCM, clutch and motor mount, charging over $6,000. I told them I would take my services elsewhere, and found Hollywood Transmissions. Charlie and Justin helped out immediately. Charlie took my car for a test drive with me in it, and after hooking up his computer to my car and rebooting my car CPU, the car was back running smoothly again. Apparently, the battery made the TCM buggy, and a simple reboot did the trick. Charlie did not charge me a penny! His honesty, as well as his knowledge in his field, is first-rate.
