We spent a week together exploring Durango and the attractions here. One of our favorite experiences was white water rafting with Mountain Waters. The staff was super communicative and helpful. We booked a moderate run with class 1-3 rapids, since we had a big range of ages (my Dad is 77 and we had a party of 10 with ages ranging down to my 10-y-o son). They advised that this would be best for our family, and they were correct. I'd love to come back and do some class 3-4 rapids now that we have had some experience. Our guide Hannah was knowledgeable and very kind. We had a great experience with the team. No complaints at all. Highly recommend.

There are a couple of primitive restrooms along the tour, but there is a real bathroom at the center. There's also food and drinks at the center. It was a pretty big coach and we had both a driver and a tour guide. There was plenty of bottled water they gave us along the way. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We stopped at a few different places where she spoke and we were able to take pictures. On a tour like that, you do sometimes end up waiting for people who dawdle, so you need some patience. One of the main stops was the Cliff Dwellings which includes a tour where you have to be able to do steps and climb ladders. A few people sat out. I'd suggest maybe looking up a YouTube video of that tour to make sure it's something you really want to do if it's questionable for you. We didn't stop at all the places in the park, but our guide did tell us places we may want to go on our own. If I had it to do over, I would've probably gotten a two day pass and come back. The center was closed when we got back, so there was no restroom or places to get refreshments until you left the park.

He made his presentations, both on the bus and at the various sites (like the pit houses) very informative and easy to listen to. Marylin at the desk was very helpful and considerate. We were there on a day when they were having some computer difficulties, but It was their first day for the 2025 season. They made sure that we arrived in time for the park ranger - led tour of the Cliff Palace. One word of advice/caution. You need to be relative physically fit to tour Cliff Palace. The exploration is a one way only route. Once you start on the descent, you are COMMITED. There is NO turning back. You will descend steep and uneven stairs with no hand rails and climb back up via 3 period type ladders. If you're not up for this, don't go down to the Palace. Obviously, this is not the fault of the tour. In fact, you can see the Palace and other structures from the view point platform. Mark used a laser pointer to high light some of the features. A few of us on this tour, including me (I have bad knees), let discretion be the better part of valor and went back to the bus. Mark was prepared for this. He made a nice presentation on the history and features of the park and engaged in pleasant and informative conversation while we waited for the others to return. Then we continued onto the rest of the tour. Remember, you are high up in the mountains. The Cliff Palace's elevation is about 7,000 feet. The Far View Terrace is up about 8.500 feet. The air is thinner than what you might be used to. As long as you are prepared for these minor physical challenges, you will have a GREAT time! We cannot recommend taking this tour highly enough! Fantastic free flowing white water rafting experience in the upper Animas river! I was expecting a…read morelittle more class IV rapids than what we had, but the experience was epic! We paddled through sun, rain, and hail, all in one trip! Epic, I tell u!! Our guides, Marcus and Robby were the best! Super cool dudes who were super knowledgeable! They kept us safe and made the experience such a blast! Colorado had the lowest snowfall this past winter so the river was really low and rapids were on the slow side. Make sure to check river flow and CSF levels if u decide to book this adventure so that u're not surprised by the low flow. The river only clocked in at 620 cfs when we ran it, so we didn't have too many big rapids and drops, but it was a very technical run and such a blast to experience this ultimate and wild experience with my hubby!!

Kaia was knowledgeable, organized, accommodating, and could have shepherded us down the route completely by herself if necessary. River guiding is clearly in her blood and the generations of river guides in her family must be proud. She is equal parts expert guide and fun banterer. If you're 8 or 80 or somewhere in between like us, you'll appreciate how Kaia gets down. No disrespect to any other river guides, but if Kaia doesn't win MVP of the week, they got to scrap this system and build back from the bottom up. On the other hand, there was one guide reportedly named ZB that was a complete vibe killer. If that guy wins, they also need to revamp this whole operation. Hope he enjoys a nice Dante's Inferno from Barber and the Bookcase and rethinks his approach to River guideship.

In Telluride, Colorado for a long weekend and decided to check out the white water rafting. The…read morewinter snowfall was great and there is still lots of snow on the peaks. My wife had heard that Mild to Wild rafting took great care of their clients. Last year at this time, we were wading up the San Miguel river / stream and fly fishing. Shallow water, tranquil pools and great fishing made it a different weekend. When we booked this, I thought it must be a mistake as this stream did not seem strong enough for rafting and narrow in width. What a difference a year makes. The river was full, fierce with heavy water and good class 3 rapids for the next 1 1/2 hour. Big rocks, fast water, big snags and quick currents were the norm today. One had better stay in the boat, as it would troublesome swimming in 42 degree water. Alyssia, our guide was fabulous and serious about following her instructions. She navigated the rocks, snags and fast water. She maneuvered our boat well. For the next 1 1/2 hours, we had 3-4 foot swells and worked the entire trip. We have rafted many rivers and this was one of our shorter trips but a 5/5 on adventure. For a great adventure, beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day, raft with Mild to Wild. You will have a fun filled and adventurous memory for life.

Moreover the information they provide within the exhibit in the building (the aerial photos are awesome!), and the great booklet they hand you for the self guided tour through the ruins are excellent. Make sure to have a hat and wear good footwear, as there are no shades and the path down to the ruins are steep. This is a seasonal destination so try to come in the summer when the tours are running so you can walk and climb amongst some of the areas.

A wonderful and beautiful park!…read more Mesa Verde means 'green table'. This national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan ancestral sites in the United States (nps) - it celebrates people. The snowy peaks in the background is San Juan Mountain. We visit multiple Mesa Top Sites, (900-1100, nps). MTS means top archeological sites within this park. We first stop at the Far View Terrace Cafe for bathroom break and also pick up our lady guide; then driving up north, stopping at the PitHouse, ending the tour at the information & research center in early afternoon about 2pm, that includes an hour lunch at Far View Terrace Cafe, with a wonderful view. Two other cafes are the Spruce Tree Terrace Cafe, and the Knife Edge Cafe. The Cliff Palace is impressive. But the tour didn't take us there - only viewed it from afar. I actually bought a mug that changes with heat and a pretty conch bangle from the gift shop. The information center is cool; the museum is ok.
