When we arrived the owners was driving his Polaris around and stopped and had a ok conversation but 2 days later he accused us of driving too fast when we asked how fast we were going he said h3 did not know but stated he had to do 20 to catch up to us so I believe he was the bigger danger to the campground than us maybe going 3 miles above posted limit and it made us uncomfortable. Also staff in the bar stated that she was on so many drugs she should not be working and could not remember our order. The whole place just seemed off we left 2 days earlier as the vibe was not good. read more

What a wonderful experience so far!! The staff are amazing, the views are phenomenal, the location is spot on and our camp sight is perfect!! During our stay here, we are visiting Durango, Mesa Verde NP, Cortez, Dolores, Silverton, Ouray and Telluride. They are all very conveniently located from Echo Basin Resort. Mancos, known as the town where "the west still lives," is only a few miles away with a historic downtown, brewery and state park. The 3 mike hike around the reservoir was a nice after dinner hike! Our family has been holding reunions at this camping resort for over 20 years. Unfortunately, this year made it painfully clear that we are no longer welcome here. To start, the cabins have not been updated in decades, and now, you are expected to clean them yourself without being provided even basic supplies like rags or cleaners. We had to walk to a distant front office to borrow a vacuum to clean the cabin. The "face towels" provided were nothing more than thin, worn rags, as you can see in the attached pictures. Each cabin, regardless of whether it housed four or twelve people, came with a single small trash can, one liner, and 1-2 rolls of toilet paper for a four-day stay. No extra bags, no restocking unless you caught the office open, and even then, guests were often given a hard time just for asking. While additional toilet paper and trash bags were eventually provided, they were not given without rude or sarcastic comments. One guest who brought up the lack of toilet paper was told that maybe she "shouldn't be using the bathroom so much." Completely unacceptable. Customer service was a serious issue from the very beginning. Several family members had trouble booking or changing reservations because their calls were not returned. When calls were answered, the owner, Tom, was rude and dismissive. Despite renting out 95% of the resort, the restaurant staff was unprepared and rude in their delivery of this information. When a family member asked to get back into a cabin to get their wallet after check out, Tom rudely replied by saying, "Check out is at ten," and drove away without offering any assistance to retrieve the wallet. Throughout our stay, several people were aggressively confronted for not wearing wristbands. While the wristband requirement had been communicated by the reunion committee, managing 300+ attendees means a few people fall through the cracks. Instead of a courteous redirection, they were spoken to rudely and sent to an office that was once again not open. One member gave Tom their name, and Tom responded, "You don't look like a Martinez to me." Whether this was meant to be racially charged or just another example of Tom's consistent disrespect toward guests, it was offensive and inappropriate. When I called to share these concerns after check-out, Tom took zero accountability and instead blamed our family committee for the resort's shortcomings and his rudeness towards guests. While I have talked to Tom on the phone (who initially refused to give me the owner's name), I think it is important to let other people know our experience, as I have read through other 1-4-star reviews, and they are very consistent with the things we experienced during our stay. After more than two decades of returning to this property, this was a heartbreaking and frustrating experience. We are sad that we will not be returning to Echo Basin, and I would no longer recommend it to others. read more

We returned two years later and I am compelled to update this review. Starting with making reservations. We had the same great customer service from before. The staff were helpful and courteous. We even had to cancel and rebook our reservations once and it was easy and they were very accommodating. When we arrived we were given an escort to our spot and the owner Tom helped us get pulled into our space. I can report a lot of improvements have been made since our last stay. Some of the sites from before that looked freshly made are now redone and complete. The sites are fairly level. The grounds are still well groomed and I love the tree canopy. The same bathhouse is still here as before and well maintained and clean. Water pressure is still good and they have 50 amp hook ups or at least in the spot we were in. Another great improvement over last stay was the WiFi. It was very responsive and I was able to stream Netflix movies with an occasional pixelation along the bottom of the screen. Last time we were here the restaurant was only open for events. This time it was open for all. We ate one meal there. My wife had a fried shrimp basket and I had a burger and waffle fries. The food was good and the lady bartender was engaging and pleasant. The menu was small but it was nice to be able to grab something without having to leave the park. I also felt the menu was priced reasonably. Also if you drink the bar was open and there were several people enjoying some adult beverages. During our time the park was quiet and the owner and staff made frequent rounds in their ATV. I stopped him once to ask a question and he was very friendly and accommodating. I will again definitely come back and would recommend this park if you are staying in the area. read more

Beautiful resort however the staff, particularly they Short hair older woman was extremely rude to the children at the wedding we attended. My child asked nicely for a soft shelled taco due to having braces and unable to eat a hard shell. My child was then aggressively handed the plate and demanded to go sit. I also observed her being rude to several other children when trying to get seconds and one little boy getting more chips. She definitely could have used a calmer tone and nicer wording with all the kids at the event. Instead of causing a scene at the reception we just left the wedding early due to the staff's behavior. The Parking lot also smelled strongly of raw sewage. NOT A KID FRIENDLY PLACE. read more

My son and daughter-in-law were married at Echo Basin last weekend and it is a beautiful resort. 250 people from all over the country attended the wedding and many commented how perfect everything was. I stayed out here before the resort was sold. That being said the new owners are updating everything. New sheets in our cabin, looks like they are putting in new tile and carpet in the cabins, the staff was very accommodating and it looks like they are planning on updating much more in the near future. Beautiful rv spots! We loved the bar happy hour from 3-6. Pool tables, music, a great place to hang out! Great laundry facilities, the pool was clean and sparkling. We rode horses at a place near by, which was awesome. Breath taking scenery every direction. read more

My wife and I stayed at the park for several days in early April. It should be noted that they begin charging full summer rates on April 1. Despite this we were told that the restaurant/ bar and pool would not be open till May. We were okay with that. On arrival we were placed in a site that had just been vacated by a long term RV. The site was wet enough (presumably from the winter thaw) that our RV sank into the mud several inches causing it to be quite unlevel. It was late enough in the day that we weren't able to address this issue till the following day. At that point we asked to move to a different site and were told there were none available even though we noted several empty sites in the park. Instead we had to hook up our trailer and pull it out of the site while more gravel was brought in and the site was leveled. Even after that was done when we backed the trailer back into the site it still sank into the soft soil an inch or so. We just decided at that point to accept that we would would be a bit unlevel. Over the course of the next few days it became obvious that all of the gorgeous,lush green images that are shown on their web site are simply artificial grassed areas toward the front of the park. Farther back in the park where the RV sites are located all of the roads are very dusty dirt roads and the sites are rather thinly graveled. After being there for several days we decided we needed to do some laundry only to find that the laundry room and showers would not be open till May! This fact was never mentioned during booking of the reservation and was certainly not on the web site. When I complained to management about this his response was "I'll change that on the web site right now". .... And he did! I then asked why "summer" rates were being charged when absolutely none of the "summer amenities" were available to campers and the reply was simply a shrug of the shoulders and the comment "we go to summer rates on April 1". .... A lot of good that does me at this point! So no, I absolutely can not recommend this RV park! Our stay there was very disappointing read more

Holy crap! This place was a very very very big let down. It was a throw back to the 70s and hasn't been updated and/or CLEANED either. The customer service was super terrible. When we asked to get more towels we were questioned as to our purpose. The cabins were disgusting. And the laundry room was closed... DO NOT STAY HERE. You'd be better off staying in your car on the side of the road. F'n gross. Worst time ever. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding at the site. We called prior to check in to confirm our reservation and that we had a kitchen. On our way in we stopped in Durango for food and upon our arrival discovered we did NOT have a kitchen. But, some of our family members did so we just moved on with our vacation. Note to desk staff "OK" is not a real answer to any question. The staff in the bar are wonderful. The grounds are really nice and very clean. Now for the wedding. From the time the ceremony started until dinner was served was 3 hours. The owner (very nice) and his 2 servers (also very nice) worked very hard. They were just completely overwhelmed for the number of people. Many venues that offer this type of service utilize an on-site event coordinator who's sole job is to make sure everything is prepared and keep things moving. The food was delicious! We would definitely stay here again Only reason we did not give 5 stars was front desk. read more

I spoke to the owner of the cabins after our stay and some of our complaints could have been addressed and some of the issues were just the normal procedure. Knowing what I know now, our stay could have been better if we had made some calls to the front desk. When we saw the office closed we assumed no one would be there to help but after speaking to the owner, we now know if you have issues, call the number provided and they will make everything right. read more

We stayed two nights in a 28' travel trailer and were blown away at how beautiful of a resort this was. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Kids loved the basketball and volleyball courts. We didn't swim or play golf but it was all there! Many updates to the RV park, all sites that we saw had fire pits and many mature trees. Wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely will be back! This DUDE RANCH is apparently operated by a bunch of DUDES !! Great looking piece of real estate but as the old saying goes...LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING. Our paid reservation had been ''lost'' and check in went down hill from there. I've had to explain it to VISA 3 times and they still don't understand what happen that afternoon. I'm not sure I do either and I was there. Our cabin was....well, remember those old Roy Rogers westerns ? Take it from there. Bed sheets had old stains on them.. UGH. No hot water and only $160.00 per night. Our horse ride was cancelled because they couldn't find the wrangler. AND HE LIVED ON THE PROPERTY. They actually sent us a mile down the street to a competitor for our ride. When we asked at the office where our clean towels were the second morning they actually had to call the owner for permission to give us the towels. I've heard of ''chain of command' but that seemed over the top. Oh yeah, during our one week stay the restaurant was open one night for exactly 2 hours (5pm to 7pm). In all fairness I must admit the food was their high water mark. I later found out the facilities at this ''resort'' are over 50 years old, but their prices are right at the cutting edge. read more

I agree with William, this place is definitely DUDE, DUDE,DUDE ! Spell that BEGINNERS. If these folks were running an airline it would crash & burn on every flight ! Our check in took over 20 minutes and we had a paid reservation (don't EVER do that here). The first cabin they assigned us to was a relic, like out of a bad western. The second cabin wasn't much better but we were tired of moving the car and lugging all out luggage around. Yeah, they wore us out. This place runs amuck with ATV's running helter skelter and back. We found out from another (annoyed) guest that the cabins were built in the early 1950's but the rental prices were right up to date. If you spend some time on the internet you'll find some very nice resorts in the general area with CLEAN cabins for rent. They had a nice looking restaurant (thru the windows) but if you can figure out when it's open please post the info on this site ! So you wondering if I would ever come back here again...right ? If they called me and said ''If's free'' I would tell them to ''just put a check in the mail''. Oh yeah, the local bakery in Mancos was the highlight of our week, = a real winner, took some of the BITE out of an otherwise unpleasant week. read more
