Loved it, even hubby. Little lunch get together saw 3 chicken bowls with various toppings, an order of dolmades and falafel to share. Really good food, served quickly by pleasant people. Can't answer anything about the drink fountain, didn't use it, but food was great and reasonably priced. The falafel is a must have, made to order and HOT when you get it. I don't understand all the rave reviews. Makes me wonder how many other Mediterranean restaurants the other reviewers have been to. This place is average at best. Flavor was fine and food seemed fresh. Portions are on the smaller side except for the rice. Half the soda dispensers were completely out and the other half had either no gas or diluted syrup. Service could be better. Employees looked like they couldn't wait until their shift was over. We were there at noon. I knew it was a gas station going in so no surprise there. Chipotle-style fast Mediterranean food! I had the beef/lamb gyro wrap with my choice of veggies, and a blend of the tzatziki and tahini sauces. Every ingredient was fresh and delicious, but the pita wrap was thin and fell apart- good thing they serve it in a paper tray! I also got a tub of baba ghanouj (delicious) which was served with 4 small/thin pieces of pita- not enough to eat all the baba, order extra pita. There were lots of flies around the windows. Next time I want to try the falafel, that seemed to be a popular pick, even on a Monday evening- steady stream of customers. Love that they use compostable takeout containers, hope they upgrade the plastic forks to compostable as well. read more

Nestled between a Jiffy Lube and a Domino's Pizza, its humble and unassuming exterior disguises it as a gas station. You'll miss it if you blink while driving along Lawrence's 23rd street. I've never had a bad experience here. The falafel are made to order and are always received piping hot, well seasoned with those familiar floral and earthy Mediterranean flavors we all love. The gyro and shwarma are shaved straight off of the spit, and the kabobs are cooked to order as well. It's set up sort of like a deli or Chipotle, where you choose a kabob, wrap or a rice bowl, protein, and your sauces and toppings. My favorite is a gyro rice bowl. Sauce depends on my mood, but a notable one is the zhoug. It's a jalapeño cilantro sauce that is amazing, though Tzatziki is the tried and true classic. My toppings are usually lettuce, tomato, pickles, kalamata olives, and feta cheese. One rice bowl and a side of falafel will easily satisfy two people! The only somewhat negative criticism I can give this place is the fact that I can't go and dine in. Sure, they have a few tables set up in there, but after all, it is a gas station! We were on our way out of town after catching the Snowglobe Express, and we had a hankering for Mediterranean, so we swung by to give them a try. I'll admit the fact that they're situated in a small gas station gave me pause for a moment, but I'm so glad I shook it off and went inside to order. Really, it's a restaurant with a small convenience store/gas pumps attached, not the other way around. The kitchen looked well staffed, the toppings and sauce fresh and arranged in an appealing way. Speaking of the staff, they were very quick and courteous. Fries and falafel were freshly made to order. For mains, I got a gyro wrap for my husband and a chicken shawarma bowl for myself. Lots of toppings and sauce choices. Fries and falafel were crisp and well seasoned, husband devoured the gyro, and I managed to eat half the rice bowl and a few falafel before I was comfortably full. Probably the best hummus I've ever had. Most everything is quick and go countertop type of experience. The chicken kabobs are listed as needing 20min prep time, and they're worth waiting for IMO. Don't be thrown off by the gas pumps out front, the food is legit. Not a place to take a date. But ppl don't go here for the scenery. I grab lunch here once a week or so and I've never been disappointed. Gas station food has become a real thing in KS. Don't miss this one. read more

We ordered the Falafels as starters which was extremely crispy on the outside and soft and spongy inside with the authentic sesame seeds spluttered in the exterior giving it that originality. It comes with two sauces and you get to choose them depending on your taste. For main course we ordered the "Chicken Shawarma Sandwich" which comes in the traditional Kuboos Bread, seasoned grilled charred chicken with veggies and sauces you can pick according to ones taste. Someone recommended this place to me (thank goodness!) otherwise I might've driven past it 100 times before noticing it! It's a humble little place, but the food is amazing and so reasonably priced! I had a beef gyro bowl ($10) with tzatziki and the spicy zhoug sauce, plus their pickled onions and cabbage and other toppings. It reminds me a lot of a Chipotle bowl, except Mediterranean-style. A falafel in a gas station? Really?? I had heard rumors of this restaurant for several months and every time I drove by, I just could not imagine how that would work. I chickened out and never ventured inside. Until the other day when I wanted a salad in the worst way. I just needed a salad but couldn't decide where to go. Then I remembered the gas station restaurant. Perfect! When I got inside and saw the line at the counter... I knew it was the right place. The best test for deciding where to eat is to look for lots of cars in the parking lot and their parking lot was packed. WOW! This place had the best falafels and gyro meat I've ever had. There were two falafels sitting under a heat lamp. I told the server I wanted the falafels and she turned toward the stove top and started mixing up ingredients. I said, "I didn't want you to cook them. I wanted these under the lamp." She replied, "No! Those aren't fresh. As long as I am here, you will get them fresh." Couldn't believe the quality of customer service. Her name was Layla and she was wonderful. She was so nice and she explained all the options they had. They served salads, wraps, all sorts of Mediterranean goodies. They had tahini sauce, tzatziki sauce... all kinds of yummy sauces and meats. It is set up as you create your own deal and they make it for you. I can assure you that whatever they make will be delicious. The prices were reasonable and the service fantastic. This place is amazing. The food is great and prepared to order, the sauces are wonderful, and it has the best falafel I've ever had. My wife and I had the falafel, ground beef kabobs, and the chicken kabobs, with baba ganoush as a side. A note about their baba ganoush. Everywhere else I've gone, I've disliked the baba ganoush - it feels like an afterthought. Not here. It's fantastic. Rich and delicious. Finally, this place was SPOTLESS. When I arrived the proprietor was out cleaning tables and tidying the drink/utensils area. The men's bathroom was clean, tidy, and well-maintained. A few years ago, I wrote a review about a restaurant named Fresh Mediterranean Grill located in Lenexa. The food was wonderful, and made to order. Sadly, times were rough, and the location closed. Fast forward to today- we are in Lawrence and come across a recommendation for a Mediterranean grill. We arrive at a Cenex fuel station, only to realize that THEY ARE BACK! The restaurant is located in the gas station, but it is not the first time a building has been repurposed (ie Joe's KC). The proprietors were wearing masks, and making sure the place was clean. Tables were being wiped down, bathrooms were clean, and no overflow of trash. The food was phenomenal- large portions of rice, sauces, vegetables and meat (we had the ground beef kabobs). The falafel was AMAZING, just absolutely delicious. Needless to say, we will be back! Tip: Please allow for 20 min for cooking kabobs- they are worth it. Also, Door Dash is available. read more

EPIC FAIL of a finish, generally okay food. (see the end) I have a strong affection for this place because I had such a great experience on my first visit. However, more recent visits haven't been so sweet. The food I had yesterday was just fine, but generally lacking in flavor. I find their many sauces to all be a bit bland, but maybe they're tailored for a college-town crowd, so I can try to overlook it. You can't beat the price and ingredient combos, so that's a win. What SERIOUSLY bummed me out this trip was that I ordered two pieces of baklava to take home (to KC). I should have looked at them before we left. The guy put them in a paper tray and covered them up with a piece of the waxed plaid food paper (no suitable to-go container/bag?) and when we got home I told the kids they could cut one in half - still sight unseen. WELL. When I walked into the kitchen, one kid was trying desperately to resuscitate a piece with the spray bottle of water I cook with. The other kid had already declared it disgusting. I was in shock. Could my children possibly not like Baklava? Well, it turned out that this was just a SAD SAD EXCUSE for Baklava. This stuff appeared to be days if not weeks old. It was not sticky, but dry and hard as a rock and it smelled rancid, to boot. There is NO excuse for the guy serving us this stuff. He should have just said, "sorry, I don't have any that's fresh right now." Anyone with eyeballs would have seen that it wasn't suitable for serving. I went her for the first time today. I've only tried one thing, but I love it. I got the falafel rice bowl. Their menu is set up like a Chipotle. You choose which item you want as a base then you can add any number of veggies and sauces to it. The falafel are cooked when you order them and taste amazing. Even though this place is in a gas station, it seemed to me all of the traffic was there for the food. I would absolutely go back.... maybe tomorrow. read more

So I've been trying a lot of mediterranean places lately to try and find something to fill the void of all the shawarma / kebab places I was having in LA.... I've tried the others in Lawrence and been really disappointed (by quality, and price, and just...everything). Anyhow, I finally tried this one out today and I gotta say it's a pretty fine kebab! And not just kebab, they really do it up with all sorts of toppings and sauces too (!!!). I didn't notice any hummus, but the other stuff more than made up for it. The price is also way better than you will find at the other mediterranean places around. All around it's just a solid bowl of food that you will feel satisfied with (and they don't destroy their chicken like the other places either!). The only downside is that it didn't come with pita (through the other places pita were that fast-food type pita, so it's not like anyone is really offering actual pita around here). But I had some good pita from the market, so I didn't mind. I was also really surprised to find this gem in a gas station. I hear they are a new business, so it makes sense. I hope they take off and can keep bringing this good food to Lawrence! Like I said, it's the best mediterranean place I've found around here... and I've been trying a LOT of them. I absolutely love this place and recommend it. Affordable and delicious Mediterranean food. Once I found this place, I keep going back for lunch and dinner. I recommend the tahini and garlic sauce to top any of your food. I usually get the kabob bowl, yum! Tip if you want any of the kabobs you can call ahead so they can cook the meat fresh. It takes about 15-20 minutes. I loved both chicken and beef kabobs. Amazing food and counter service! read more
