We typically stop here on our way to SoCal and back up again. They are generally clean and well cared for. We don't have pets, but a nice place to get the dog out on a leash. And if you need snacks, the gas station across the street has a full selection. read more

We have stopped here many times and it's always clean and well maintained. They have tables to maybe sit and relax and picnic. It has a cover over it so keeps you shaded. Bathrooms are clean every time we stop. There is even pay phones, never see them anymore. Nice comfortable place to stop, some roadside stops are sketchy. Not this one. read more

It's always closed. Once there was an area power outage but other times it's late afternoon and the entry is all coned off. We just end up going to the gas station. So it's disappointing. read more

We stopped at this rest area from making the drive through Death Valley, this place has clean bathrooms. They have parking for both autos and trucks, but the place is not really big like others. The Chevron station across the road is closed for renovations, it looks like they are building a new building and they still have charging stations there. read more

This was a very nice and clean rest stop. It was very well maintained and during our visit there was cleaning staff on site. Parking was plentiful, and there were a lot of travelers there, so I felt comfortable stopping there. They have a shaded/covered picnic area with multiple tables. read more

Coso Rest Area is easy to spot, there are signs for it on the highway. Once you get off, it's right there, to the right. Big parking lot, picnic tables, decent restrooms with soap, pretty clean during Covid. Nice, helpful people around, other travelers. It was windy when we stopped by in December, so having a picnic wasn't in the cards, just a snack in the car. There's a gas station across, another major plus. Here's another awesome stop between LA and Mammoth if you have kids AND/OR dogs. This place is fairly new and so the restrooms are really clean. There's plenty of room for kids AND dogs to run around. Of course dogs have to be leashed. There's actually a designated area for the dogs to handle their business but it seems like dog owners don't know or weren't following directions. Unfortunately in some areas such as the rocky area under the pine trees, there are a lot of dog poop that owners decided not to pick up. The caretakers of this rest area are too busy taking care of the bathrooms, picnic tables and the trash that they don't have time (or just don't get paid enough) to pick up the dog poo. There's also a spigot to fill up a water bowl if you are too lazy to pop out some drinking water for the doggo. All in all, its a pretty nice place to stretch your legs, have the kids/dogs run around and learn a little more about Inyokern with all the information they have posted. My rubric for assessing roadside rest stops is pretty simple: on a scale of 1 to 5, how safe would I feel abouy my wife and children came here by themselves? Not that I'm some superhero or tough guy, but it's as good an evaluator as any, considering how much I love them. So yeah, 4 stars. Relatively clean restrooms, plenty of parking, minimal riff raff or graffiti, and far enough away from urban areas to limit gangmembers, meatheads, lunks, serial killers, creepers, lurkers, or Luddites. Note well: it can get dumb hot out here, so watch your little ones and pets for signs of heat stroke, or burning their little feet and paws on hot pavement. You should also note that this is wild land area, so enough rattlers, coyotes, and other varmints that you should keep an eye out for the safety of your skin and fur babies. read more

Clean, convenient and a good point to stop off and stretch your legs between LA and Bishop. Not too busy and tons of parking spots. Truck spots available. The lady cleaning the bathroom cleans it pretty well. Tons of trash cans, park area and pet area. read more

I have two small dogs who would like to go to the bathroom, but they are not allowed on the grass. Big signs please keep dogs off the grass. This rest stop has set aside a rock area for your dogs to go to the bathroom on unfortunately it's 80° outside and the rocks feel like they're about 100. My dogs cannot go on hot rocks, Nor should any dog. I realize some dog owners are not responsible enough to pick up their dogs feces, but I am not one and there are many others like me. Something else needs to be created for dogs owners. read more

This was a pleasant surprise on our trip up 395 returning home from Los Angeles. When I need to go I like to have a nice place to go. The rest area itself has a good amount of vegetation, but you might want to just "go" in the restroom. It's not a place to hang out for an hour or so, but it was clean, had some decent tables and some nice grassy areas that pets aren't supposed to go on. Another cool thing is at the same exit there is a convenience store, so instead of two stops to get the jobs done, you can pretty much make it almost one. read more

Hat's off to the State of California. If you're on HWY 395, which I've been enjoying since I was about 15, this is a great stop. The state keeps it clean, there are some great views, and it's accessibility make it easy to get back on the road. Thanks again to the good people of California. read more

Dont come here for the gloryhole... Come here to make sure your teeth arent floating... this is a great stopping point on the way to Mammoth, Reno, or wherever you are headed to off of 395. This rest stop has oodles of parking, a motorhome waste disposal spot, lots of room to let the puppies romp around and find a particularly wonderful piece of grass to leave their scent on, and some decent room to get out and stretch ones legs a bit. They have some old signs showing desertwildlife, road systems, rest stop locations, etc. Sometimes there has even been a working vending machine! The restrooms are not high quality but are decently maintained for a rest stop. The graffiti is minimal. There are also a large number of urinals/stalls to take care of your business. This is a much better choice than many other options out there. So check it out if you need to get out of the ride on your way North up 395! read more

Feeling tired from your road trip? Well, this is as good a place as any to stop, stretch, and use the restroom. This rest area is located off the 395 freeway a bit north of where the 14 fwy merges with the 395. Plenty of parking is available. Men's room was pretty clean. There are tables for having a picnic. Grassy areas for walking your dog. Overall, this rest area is A-Ok, and I'd stop here again. read more

Basic services are provided including bathrooms, drinking fountains, picnic tables, bulletin board with a map and even some informative waysides. Parking is available for cars, trucks or for those with trailers. Amazingly they even have pay phones. Not to many of those left so you should at least stop and take a picture of them. They could be gone next the you come back. read more

Surprisingly well-kept restrooms along the highway! I've driven this stretch enough times to be able to time my pee-breaks and naps, and I'm a frequent visitor at this one. Besides that one month this year with the major insect infestation, I'm usually surprised at how well-maintained this spot is. read more

Just an FYI - this rest stop is closed until further notice. The leach line for the septic tanks collapsed and CALTRANS estimates repairs will take at least a month before the rest area will reopen. However - Coso Junction Chevron IS still open for bathroom breaks and snacks. read more
