I have decided not to stay there, so I called to release the room and the woman answering the phone not only put me on hold, rudely and abruptly, tells me, "Nobody was going to call, if you didn't get the email then you don't have a room." I said, "This could have been very upsetting if I was calling to make payment, and the room wasn't held for me, because I was told I would get a call." Instead of saying, "I am so sorry Ma'am, I don't know who told you this but I assure you we will make sure the other reservationists know not to tell people this, and that to be sure to have you look for an email." But instead she was RUDE and so I hung up. GOOD GRIEF! She needs an attitude adjustment. She shouldn't be on the phones. She's impolite. She doesn't realize that people view the Dow Hotel by the treatment they receive and it starts at the beginning, ....at the front desk.

First issue, they are renovating the first floor for which I have no issue. The problem? You need to post that online BEFORE folks make reservations. I have mobility issues and there is no elevator. I had to drag my heavy luggage up narrow stairs...very painful. Second issue, problems with their key cards...lots of trouble getting into my room with the digital key cards. Very frustrating. Third issue: their pool is closed in the middle of the hot summer. Post that online BEFORE folks visit and book on your website! Even if it's only temporarily closed. Fourth issue, the water was turned off for over 2 hours during the middle of the day for maintenance. Very inconvenient! Lone Pine is a beautiful little town with charming restaurants but not sure if I can recommend this hotel based on my most recent experience.

The bath towels are plush and blue, rather than the usual institutional white. The bedspreads have georgeous patterns and the mattresses are comfortable. There are no motel cleaner and perfume smells. One can bring the car right up to the front door, making unloading and loading a breeze. On the downside: Our cabin was small, not a lot of space to move around. There was some traffic noise from highway 395 which abated overnight. The place had a friendly vibe of cyclists, hikers, and outdoorsy folks. We will be back!

Bottled water, and other treats were also available. There is a resident, skunk named 'Princess', who pals around with the local cats at night. Then after being informed, the HIGHLIGHT of my stay, was IMMEDIATELY seeing her at the bottom of the stairs! It was the best part of my trip. -Comfortable beds, clean sheets, fresh towels. -It had all the listed amenities. -Reasonable rates especially compared to everyone else in the area. -I recommend this place for family or romantic getaway. Whitney Portal area every year, and unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences I've had. The condiments were left out for everyone to grab, tables were not clean, and there seemed to be very little attention to sanitation. When I asked about it, the explanation was that "it's been like that since COVID," but that doesn't make it acceptable, especially years later. The food was also extremely overpriced for the quality. We paid $39.98 for two chicken sandwiches without drinks--one crispy chicken sandwich that was extremely spicy and a grilled chicken sandwich with lemon pepper. Neither was enjoyable, and we ended up throwing the food away. My recommendation: Eat in Lone Pine before heading up to Mt. Whitney Portal. You'll likely find better food, better value, and more options. Unfortunately, I felt like we wasted our money here. I would give less than one star if that were an option, but I'm sharing this review because I hope it helps other visitors make an informed decision.

REVIEW FOR SHOWERS ONLY - rest of place looks good…read more Two of us took showers. In mine, there was no place to put clothes except 2 tiny, small shaky hooks on door and wall. No floor mat; no bench (a must); no place to put towel; no place to put clean clothes; no place to put anything; floor all wet after shower (bare feet on god-knows-what). Shower aimed at open curtain so HAD to get into shower lest everything got sprayed before temperature was adjusted. After shower, ZERO ventilation so worse than a sauna - instant sweat. Also, HIGHEST price of all options along Hwy 395. Other person said her shower was awful - water never mixed/adjusted. It was either all hot or all cold water. BAD plumbing. Outside the showers, in mixed-gender area, plenty of room after shower. But zero privacy so had to undress/dress in tiny shower cubicle (about 2x3ft space). MUCH BETTER SHOWER at Mammoth - "Camp High Sierra" ... very pleasant and spacious BUT have to drive almost 2 hours just to get there.

It's very easy to find and within reasonable walking distance to many of the local stores and eateries of Kernville. I'm not typically one to stay in my room all day although the nice AC makes it tempting. We were able to go up to the mountains the entire day and come back and jump in the pool at Whispering Pines. The pool is very clean with a gorgeous unobstructed view of the mountains. The front office staff were very kind and friendly and quickly checked us in to our room. We stayed in room #103 which is very cozy with a kitchenette. The room was nice and clean and we even had a deck out the back door to look and listen to nature. There's no real designated parking spots for individual rooms so it's first come, first served. It gets very hot in Kernville so I would highly suggest parking in the few precious spots in front of the pool fence which give more shade throughout the day.
