Came here on a Friday morning (2/4) for a beginner class and it was so fun yet calming at the same time. The class takes 8 people and is about 2 hours. Our instructor was so sweet and encouraging the entire time, making everyone feel welcomed. I have yet to pick up my piece which takes about 4 weeks to dry/glaze/fire from initial class date but know I will definitely be coming back for another class! read more

Absolutely amazing and so reasonably priced for wheel throwing lesson, then you pick the glaze and they glaze and fire for you!

My husband and I live near by and we walk our dogs all the time near this business. We had always wanted to take a class and do something fun together. When we walked by this evening (Saturday) we noticed they where open and saw a small group of ppl inside. We wanted to see if we could get information about their classes. When my husband approached the door he was ignored and he asked if he could speak to someone in charge... no one ever came to the door. He got a bit upset and left. Told me to get info myself on the way back. A few minutes later I approached the door and they did the same thing to me. They looked at me like I was out of this world and I finally said " is some one gonna help me and answer a question?" A woman that saw me standing at the door finally came out because my dog barked. She asked me what I needed and I told her I had a question and wanted some information about classes. She was rude and told me that she was in a middle of a class and had I to go online. She was very dismissive and didn't want to give me a second of her time. Her customer service was not polite and she probably should of handled it differently. She never apologized for making me wait or in this case she didn't seem to care. I like helping small local businesses but I would never support a business that treated us the way they did. Just like another person wrote... I would give them a zero rating and take my business elsewhere. Rude rude rude! read more

There are so many reasons to love Costa Mesa Ceramics. Friendly, knowledgeable, and fun staff. Aesthetic, CLEAN, and spacious studio space. Quality equipment and materials. Not to mention it's a woman-owned small business. This studio has options for everyone, from first-time students to experienced ceramicists. I took a 6-week course at the studio and became a shelf member for several months and loved that I could practice and learn in an environment with fellow artists and helpful ceramic technicians. Nestled and hidden in a small corner of Costa Mesa, is the wonderful Costa Mesa Ceramics Studio. My friends and I (group of 5) really enjoyed our private group session/class in April. We each made four pieces in our 2 hour session. Our instructor was able to guide us and help us out when we needed. All the staff there was super nice and helpful! After we made our pieces in the class, the staff would later help us to glaze and fire the pieces. We just picked up our pieces this weekend, and they were so beautiful! Several of our group members want to try it again!! After taking the class, I can see how people would get hooked on pottery making!!! read more

I am wrapping up the 6-week beginner's course and felt obligated to leave a review, especially in light of having read a couple less-than-positive reviews about Costa Mesa Ceramics from a couple unhappy campers prior to signing up for the course myself. I don't think I've ever had a better teacher at ANYTHING than Theresa, our instructor for the course. She exudes passion for ceramics and caring for her students (which is remarkable, especially given how relatively little time she has spent with us -- after all, it's only a 6-week course!). Ceramics is an incredibly technical art and Theresa manages to precisely articulate confusing concepts. She is patient, always prepared, and very open and accessible. The studio itself has a very pleasant atmosphere; it's clean, impeccably maintained yet warm and inviting. From the get-go, it's clear that Costa Mesa Ceramics is treasured by its owner(s) and members. I can tell already that I will miss the course. At the risk of being redundant, I could not recommend Costa Mesa Ceramics higher! I am incredibly grateful. Thank you. read more

This review is primarily for Lauren, who seems to be the studio manager (or the person who handles scheduling). I took a private class here, but the process of actually booking a class time was difficult and extremely unorganized. She didn't reply to my emails for days; and even I called, she was dismissive, asking if I could call back later because she was in the middle of a class. When I finally went in to the studio to take my class, Lauren at one point answered the phone; and after chatting with the customer, made some rude, offhand comment to the extent of, "it amazes me how people ask the most obvious questions." Seriously? Maybe if the studio were run in a more orderly manner, people wouldn't find the need to double-check everything. This is not to say the class wasn't good (my teacher was helpful), but the studio overall left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Very patient with various questions, and work with you to help you create whatever your heart desires with their ceramic knowledge and experience. After endless searching of ceramics studios where one could actually create something starting from a block of clay and not just paint and bake, I finally hit the jackpot! This please had a very warm and homey feel that will take you right back to your high school ceramics class. The staff was extremely patient and helpful with me and always seemed to find the time help me with something little I was working on. i came in for a small group lesson last saturday and i cannot say enough good things about this place!! the class was really fairly priced ($45 for 2 hours & you make 3 pieces) and our instructor, kelly was amazing!! she was so sweet and helpful. the studio is small but very clean and organized. i really liked how they had physical examples of all of the glazes they offer. we are already planning on coming back for another class and can't wait to pick up our pieces read more

This studio opened recently in September 2016- and I am so thankful it did! It's definitely unique, well priced, and has a great staff. I've never done ceramics before, but certainly buy enough of them, so thought I'd try out their wheel throwing class on Monday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to see if I have any knack for it. The class had 5 people in it and we got started right on time. Kyle was our instructor and was so very patient with all of us who were very new to wheel throwing. He made it look so easy! All of his instructions were very helpful, and he never hesitated to help walk us through parts of the process individually when necessary. I would suggest being patient with yourself if you're new to wheel throwing- learn to laugh a lot when your pot goes awry or turns out a little wonky. It's certainly not easy! But it was extremely fun and something I'd try again. We ended up making 3 different items- I made a bowl, a vase, and a wonky something or other. The studio will trim & glaze it for you, no extra cost. Honestly, I was so surprised and excited to make that many pieces, and I definitely feel like it was generous of the studio. They also have wine and ceramics nights, which seem super popular, so that could be a good intro for a girl's night out. Either way, excited to have this studio in the neighborhood!! read more

If I could give Costa Mesa Ceramics a million stars I would. What a gem! I am so beyond thrilled that Costa Mesa Ceramics exists! Not only is the studio the most well designed ceramics studio I've been to, the owner Lauren, is the most down to earth, kind, helpful, and talented ceramicist. Any question I have about how to accomplish an idea, Lauren takes the time to listen to what my idea is and then work with me to figure out a way to make it happen. I took ceramics classes in college and the classes at Costa Mesa Ceramics far surpass any university level class. They offer different types of clay and a whole rainbow of glazing options for people to use. I took the hand building class, and loved it so much I took it a second time. My spouse and I went here as one of our honeymoon activities. Weeks later we hadn't heard from them. I called multiple times and left messages asking weather we could come pick up our pottery. However, I never heard back from them. Eventually we went there only to learn that they had lost my pottery! They were VERY unconcerned and there was zero accountability. Nor did we get our money back. This was very upsetting as it was sentimental, being that it was memorabilia from our honeymoon. read more
