I've tried this spot on a few occasions and it is just not great. My expectations for fast-Mex really aren't that high and I don't expect a stellar meal at any of them. This location lowers the bar in flavors and cleanliness. The meats tend to be overcooked and most of the items they are putting in your meal seem bland and flavorless. You can't find any hot sauce to tune it up and are stuck with greasy cheese flavored jerky. In a tortilla. Taking in to account we are transitioning through COVID and staffing issues, when you visit at 3pm on a Sunday, count 2 customers and 6 employees, there really isn't a reason for such filth. Dirty tables, dirty floors, garbage cans than look like they haven't been cleaned ever and prep stations that look horrendous. This visit was so bad I chose not to even order and picked up a sandwich at another fast food spot. I hope they get it together. NO HORCHATA!! Got a drink assuming they would have their specialty drinks like horchata but went to get it and they were all out so I asked if they had more to fill it up or had some at the pick up area but they said no more, so I asked if I could get a return on the cup since I no longer wanted a drink and they said they wouldn't. Lived in Layton for 20+ years their service is absolutely garbage lately. Horrible location every other locations never have a problem at. Will not go back to this location ever. This is a joke. I ordered (through the drive-thru) some grilled chicken nachos and paid an additional $2 for a large queso to get a half filled container and a missing 2oz queso (that comes automatically) with my nachos. Additionally my kids cheese quesadilla was a complete mess. I asked for no rice and substitute for more refried beans, and this is what was given. The portions were awful and packaging was horrible. I visited the Layton location at 7:30 and their drive-thru was closed?? At 7:30?? The restaurant itself didn't close for another half hour, but I had littles in the car and chose Costa Vida because they are typically great quality while also convenient. I haven't had a meal from there that wasn't the best Mexican food and their customer service is superb and CHINO, the person in charge, definitely goes out of his way to make SURE you are happy with everything! He recently personally delivered my food and added a free slice of their delicious Key Lime Pie for me to make up an error from the day before all of which he did NOT have to do. They always forget something whenever we order. Guacamole, chips and queso,, kid's meal drink, or ninos. I usually just let it go, but I called today and wanted a refund for the chips and queso we didn't get. The first person couldn't look it up with my name, the order number, or even the exact time of pickup I gave them. I asked if they had a senior worker or a manager that could help them. Someone else came over and acted like they could look it up with the order. She told me she would find it and refund it, and by her tone and the fact that she got off the phone with me before it was done, I'm 100% sure we didn't get the refund. Talk about moving people through at a high pace, yet keeping customer service as their priority!!! Stopped by for lunch and they were busy. The line was long, but moved at a respectable speed. The people working the line were friendly and attentive. When they were taking my order, there was 100% focus. They made it very apparent that you were there priority at that moment. The food was good. My wife had the beef nachos and was happy with her meal. I had a cheese quesadilla and enjoyed it as well. The portions were large and pricing was fair. The rice was a little on the cooler side (the reason for the 1 star deduction) As far as cleanliness is concerned... for as large of a lunch crowd that they had, the dining area was spotless!!! My husband couldn't join us for dinner as he had to run to McDonalds so he wouldn't starve. It's a 20 minute round trip to Costa Vida and not worth the hassle. You'd think we would have learned from our last experience which was 6 months ago when they also forgot half of our order. I had to go back inside three times before they got it right. To start I love Costa Vida but this specific branch has been a disappointment every time. First time I went they got my order wrong, second time I went the girl making my salad put her hand in the trash can and proceed to make my meal without changing her gloves and the third time they completely screwed up my order again, only giving me lettuce and shrimp when I asked for a salad with at least one or two other fixings on it. Generally I get good service from the Layton location but tonight I was extremely dissatisfied with the service I received. They took one of our order and forgot to take three more orders and instead started the order for the family behind us. As the pushy woman was ordering more meals, I just stood there in the line glaring at the employees waiting . They made the woman three of her orders before they finished mine and I had to tell them that I wasn't finished ordering several times. So I went through drive-through and I'm at the speaker box for literally like 10 minutes trying to see if anyone was there so I ended up just placing an order and I went to the window the drive-through window so after 20 minutes of unprofessionalism I gave them a call to see will if they are still open because it shows on Google that they close at nine so I called them and they were like oh we close our drive-through window early so we can start cleaning well how about being a little more professional and putting a sign up so people don't waste their time they just lost a five-year customer just based on their unprofessionalism. We visited the Layton Location on May 4th at approximately 8 PM. We decided to go inside as the line was long in the drive thru. Upon reaching where you order you food I was taken back by how dirty the food prep are was. I'm not just talking a little dirty but filthy, food everywhere. It looked like they hadn't wiped down the area in hours. The other thing that struck me was that only half the employees were wearing masks. Here we are in the midst of a pandemic and several employees aren't wearing masks. Honestly, we should have just left but it was late and I really wanted a salad. When we got to the register to pay, I used my debit card and was then was asked to sign the screen, I went to sign and caught myself, THE SCREEN WAS FILTHY! It had dried food, smears of who knows what. I said to the cashier that I wasn't touching the screen as it had t been sanitized in who knows how long, expecting them to say let me clean that they instead said what should I do? I told them Scribble a signature as they were obviously not going to sanitize it. I was so disturbed by the whole experience that I emailed Costa Vida and they obviously don't care either as I have never heard back from them. I won't be visiting this location again. read more

We went through the drive thru at 11:36 and they messed up our meals, they gave us pork instead of steak but still charged us for the steak. My boyfriend is VERY allergic to pork so we went back to the store and waited for over an hour for no one to even address that we were waiting it took my boyfriend stopping them and asking for help. They remade only one meal even though the rest was cold by then, the food was WRONG AGAIN, we finally left the store at 1:11 with no refund, cold food, terrible service, and a still wrong order. I ordered a salad. There are two options for salad dressing. I did not get the one I ordered. I called them to ask if they had run out of the other one. They did not. Maybe they can't read maybe they're just stupid I don't understand giving somebody the wrong item when you've not run out of the correct item.
