I used to frequent this place some 30 years ago (yes, I'm getting old! :-( Needless to say, I'm with the ways of the world and more into takeout now. I ordered the Pick 2 combo to include two portions of chicken enchiladas. You are allowed two different sides with the meal in which I requested Spanish rice and refried beans. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they do include a plastic bag of their house tortilla chips and a salsa side that is mild in flavor but just as you would receive if dining in the actual restaurant. The chicken enchiladas were good, though a bit disappointing in the portion size that showed up in one tin for the whole meal. They did include shredded lettuce per my request, but no sour cream was included. Spanish rice and refried beans were okay. I just remember this restaurant being a lot better back in the day, so probably wouldn't even consider dining in after reading other's reviews. Sad that the quality has gone down but that seems to be the way everywhere nowadays. The food itself definitely wasn't bad; just not quite exactly sure if it's worth the money when they can't even include a basic condiment like sour cream when Betos and Rancheritos do that at no request. It has been years since I've eaten here. I remember why my wife and I would go here often, it's really good food. The chips and salsa are great and the bean dip is the best. The hops come out warm. I would go to Garcia's more if it was closer to where I live because it is really good! I got a shredded beef taco that was just delicious! The shell was a lot different from the regular beef tacos that they were serving, and I loved it! Just not your average taco shell! The black beans were very good, and the chips while normally large and warm were broken and warm, not like the ones I remembered like Chili's, which has phenomenal chips! But they serve it with a sauce and a bean sauce, which are really really good, so not mad about it was just craving the better ones! My friends got the ice cream with rolled donuts filled with chocolate sauce, and it was really really good, I got the sopafillas, which had a very good white creamy sauce, not like the ones I've usually had, which I have come to find out ,very from restaurant to restaurant, but we're pretty good. But of course, the reason for the excellent mark is because of Mason, a great waiter, very informative, and we talked about our trips we take, and he was very informative! So they're very many reasons to like a waiter and he was among the best! It's a cool looking restaurant with very nice seats and a great Mexican look of course! It wasn't as busy on a Saturday night as I thought it would be, but the prices are really good for not a luncheon menu, almost forgot about their tortilla soup, which I ordered separate. It was truly one of the best tortilla soups I've had! So it's got a great thing going for it so I hope more people in that area of Layton go a little bit more often! However, I assume with all this government shut down business ,that it's been downright hard for anybody to get the money to do anything! read more

It's good enough and nothing to rave about. I chose the Olivia sampler or something. Bummed out- the only good thing in the plate was the fundido. The shredded beef was a disappointment taste, almost gross idk what's up w the seasonings in it. I should've gotten a plate w rice. The rice was not red Mexican delicious rice, it was yellow average Mexican-ish rice. I wish the place tasted more authentic. My husband got a chimi w beef and rice in the side my son got a burrito w beef and rice on the side. I give it a 5/10 for those plates. I'm not thinking of going back. Wow! Garcia's Mexican Restaurant has really gone downhill. Knowing that this place was a friend's favorite (at least it was until this visit), I ordered the Enchilada Especial "to go" for takeout. It is supposed to come with two chicken enchiladas, topped WITH green enchilada sauce, and jalapeno cream cheese. You get two sides of your choosing with this entree, and I went with Spanish rice and refried beans. I also requested lettuce on the enchiladas in which they charged me an additional fee when I picked them up. No problem, I thought. Well... get to my friend's house and much to our surprise and dismay, there was absolutely NO enchilada sauce whatsoever on them. There was also NO jalapeno sour cream!! It was nothing but a tasteless pile of beige. And the lettuce they charged me additional for was miniscule in portion size in a tiny cup with wilting old shredded lettuce. I attempted to call the store and the phone just rang and rang and rang... Never EVER again will I patronize Garcia's in person or for takeout. And neither will my friend. Go to Mr. Delicious in Clinton. Or any Rancheritos/Betos location. You get much better service, red/green salsa sides, larger portion sizes, fresh ingredients, and they NEVER forget their sauce. The enchiladas ended up being tossed in the garbage they were THAT bad! No way do the inflated prices at this establishment justify the garbage they dispense. Complete RIP-OFF! read more

We just stopped by for a late dinner on a Tuesday night at 8:05 PM. We know they close at 9 PM. Plenty of time to get served and enjoy a meal. No one was at the desk to great us. About 6 servers came out of the kitchen area and looked right at us. No one made an attempt to get someone to get us a table or see if we needed anything. We left after 5 minutes and went to La Puente across the street. Was greeted at the door and was seated in less than 1 minute and ordered in less than 5 minutes. Garcia's doesn't miss! Absolutely the best! From the bendy straws to the ambiance, it's got that overall vibe and stellar service that keeps me coming back. We love that the chips are always warm! And they serve beans with the chips and salsa. Not only that, they usually give everyone at the table their own dipping sauces (like their own individual salsa and bean bowl) which feels super personalized. The warm chips alone set them apart, but the bean dip with the chips and salsa is the icing on the cake. Also, love that they serve Pepsi. Servers always bring you refills without you having to ask. We hadn't been to Garcia's in years, I remembered really liking it. Alas it has gone the way of many of my old favorites. The seated us promptly, likely due to the place being completely empty. They brought us a bowl of warm chips with decent salsa and some beans to dip. After that, I ordered the house margarita and the waitress put the order in at the bar. She then hovered around our table asking if we were ready to order approximately every 2 minutes. When we had decided, I ordered the choose your own combo plate. I asked her if I could get a shrimp taco rather than the other proteins listed. Her immediate response was no, I'm sorry, we can't do that, the shrimp is portioned out differently and walked away. About 10 minutes later, she returned to offer me a shrimp taco served Ala carte, which i took her up on to pair with my combo of a cheese enchilada and tostada. The taco arrived unadorned, which i expected. The combo also arrived with no frills whatsoever. I asked for a small side of sour cream and she returned with a bowl with a single dollop. The tostada was limp and soggy but aside from that, the food was alright.My husband had the chicken fundido and enjoyed it. We were taking our time to enjoy the meal when our server brought us the bill and a box. I boxed up my enchilada while my husband paid the bill and the server swarmed us yet again. Bussing our table before we could even push our chairs back in We felt uncomfortably rushed and bummed to discover that they charged us nearly $3 for that dollop of SC! We started with the spinach and cheese dip , salsa, and bean dip as well as a margarita. The margarita was huge but didn't really taste good which really bummed me out. We are always looking for a good margarita and I guess it still remains elusive. I don't think they mixed it very well and would've been better if they had. The prices were good for drinks though. Cheaper than most places assuming you can have them mix it better. The spinach and cheese dip was surprisingly good though. I could've eaten a few bowls of it for sure. I thought it was going to be overpowered with spinach flavor but it had just the right amount. Highly recommend it. The salsa was a good flavor and I really enjoyed the bean dip they give you as well. I hadn't actually had bean dip before but I would def ask for more if we go back. I got the smothered jack fajitas and they were pretty good. It was a huge portion of course which made for a lot of leftover but it was still good as leftovers. They seasoned the meat well and the cheese was a good touch. I'd eat it again. Overall, we liked the place. Only thing good about this place is their chips and bean dip. Last time my husband and I went here we ended up with food poisoning. We went again for someone's birthday party and literally only ate the chips and bean dip. My sister got a Medium Steak and this is what it looked like!! That's not normal. It was straight RUBBER! On Monday evening, I placed an online order for curbside pickup. I got to the restaurant about 10-15 minutes later and called to let them know I was there, like their email told me to do. The woman I spoke with seemed a bit confused and asked, "So you ordered but didn't pick it up?" I say "Yes, I ordered a few minutes ago. (my name), it's a curbside order and I'm out front waiting." She said OK and we disconnected. I waited about 4-5 minutes and called in again. Same woman answers and tells me, We're to busy to bring your order out." The parking lot was not super packed, there was no one waiting for a table. So I said, "Sorry your busy but I really need carside pickup tonight!" (I had no shoes on, was wearing PJs and my hair was truly tragic) She sort of mumbled something, (probably calling me names) and then just hung up. So I hopped out of the car and ran across freezing pavement in my bare feet, in the door and tried to emit a 'don't look at me' force field as I hurried back to their bar area. The seating in the bar area had one table of 2 people, SO BUSY! Anyway I get back there and a man asks if he can help. I told him I had carside pickup but was told by the woman answering the phone, and pointed her out, that you guys are to busy tonight to bring out my order. He said What!? I said Yeah, she told me you were super busy and I needed to come in for my order. By this point, she was hurriedly walking away because she heard/saw me pointing her out. This very nice man inside apologized profusely and said they were NOT to busy at all. I thanked him and got out the door before anyone else saw me. The snotty little tart who answered the phone that night and flat out lied to me is not someone I would want to have working for me, that's for sure! If she doesn't want to carry to go orders out to people she should go find a different job. Instead she chose to lie to a long time customer not to mention just being rude and irresponsible. Great service and delicious food. MacKenzie was very attentive and made sure we were good and our drinks were full. I especially enjoyed the beef chimichangas and the chicken flautas. I was nervous coming here, considering the reviews, but I actually really enjoyed this place. Do I think my mom's Mexican food is better? Oh, yes! But this place is still better than other Mexican restaurants that I've tried. I ordered the Pollo Fundido. I went to Garcia's for my daughter's birthday celebration. I always like seeing another guest get a sombrero put on their head and the staff singing happy birthday to them. All of sudden we were trying to find our waitress to sing happy birthday to my daughter and was told she went to the bathroom. We must have waited at least 15 minutes for her to come out. We asked her about singing happy birthday to my daughter and we were told they didn't have time to sing happy birthday. Friendly staff, quick service, food okay. Went for lunch ordered a sour cream chicken enchilada and a ground beef taco and it came with rice & beans. The enchilada was good, taco meat had a faint cleaner taste, not good, the rice a very small portion and the beans were just a bunch of mush. One thing I like is the chips and salsa that's gratis while you are waiting for your meal. The price was fair, I may not be a Mexican food lover, i guess i'm more of the sweet pork salad kinda guy. Went here at 1 PM to get some lunch. While I was parking I saw a couple of ladies walk in. When I got inside they were still to be seated. For years I have driven past this restaurant going back-and-forth to my office,and have always thought to myself one day I would try it. I like to think I'm not picky, but there are some things that I just have high standards on, one of them is chips and salsa chips should be crispy and not soggy soaked in Greece. The chips at this restaurant are very greasy, and if you like hot salsa you won't really find that here, the salsa is very mild. The refried beans are really bland and don't have much flavor and the chicken in a chicken enchilada was very dry, even with the smothered red sauce all over it. I would not recommend this place I'll go down the street to Xavier's or somewhere else, the only real positive that this restaurant has is it does serve alcohol however it's not an open bar. read more

Love Garcias! Been here a few times and always leave satisfied, Favorite Mexican restaurant in Layton. Food is very good and portions are spot on. Always a pleasant experience and good atmosphere. We prefer sitting in the bar section next to the fireplace. I only hope they continue to provide the same service and quality of food. Great value for what you get. Highly recommend!
