Monday lunch special Enchiladas $11: conventional flavors, fair portion/price.
    Bryan J.

Postre Cafe is named & logoed for desserts and coffee. Yet the small dining room display case has only a handful of typical Mexican eatery desserts (like flan, tres leche, cheesecake) already pre-portioned in $7 "take away" clamshells-- no enticing visual displays of fresh pastries, cakes or sweets to be sliced or served up for you. Furthermore the walls are decorated here and there with coffee and espresso signage, but there are no café smells nor atmosphere to entice you in for morning coffee and sweets nor after-meal coffee and desserts, either. The $10.99 lunch special they advertise varies by weekday, and it is conventional American-Mex/Tex-Mex fare like enchiladas, tacos and chimichangas. The regular menu is more of the same. The service was prompt and friendly enough, yet the enchilada sauce tasted canned; the salsa bottled; the chips not-so-fresh; the refried bean-paste and rice, expected. No surprises in house-crafted sauces or entrée prep were yet discovered. While it's nice to see a little four-month-old independent restaurant in this sleepy retail strip near the southern Layton-Kaysville border, you really won't find real south-of-the-border Mexican food. However it's not bad, just not unique, and the cheerful service made it an okay visit. I was hoping to find a Mexican cafe populated with pastries, sweets, coffee, Mexican cocoa, and churros. And tho not much choice in desserts or coffee -- and definitely no espresso bar -- an opportunity for Postre Cafe to do something different would be to switch the 'free' meal accompaniments from chips, salsa, and soda to smaller-sized portions of their sweets and coffee. Assuming they don't taste pre-packaged either, it would deliver better on the theme.

Stuffed Jalapeños and tamale, chicken enchilada combos. Good amount of meat and the beans were tasty

Service was good. Waitress was really nice. Food came out hot, the stuffed jalapeños were piping hot and delicious. It has very clean fresh and new furnishings. Very nice casual atmosphere. There was only one coffee on the menu though so I gave 4 stars.

We finally made the trek from Kaysville, and it is delish! I got the Asada platter. Rice beans and choice of tortillas. Chips and salsa were fresh, and my little one got the shrimp quesadilla. Everything was great. For dessert (postre) we got churros. Fresh made and hot! We'll be back.

Food was pretty good, service was great. It's a nice little spot. I felt the food was priced high for the portions given.

The interior nails that Southern Cali college town energy with retro decor and good music at a volume where you can actually hold a conversation. Temperature was perfect, staff was warm and helpful, and the vibe overall just works. My wife and I had hoped to split a "Biggy" burrito, but our protein preferences don't overlap, so we each ended up with our own "Pee-Wee." No custom halves here, which cost us an extra $4.50 and left me feeling like we got less food total than a shared Biggy would have given us. If you have any appetite at all, size up. My steak Ol' Skool burrito was solid, though I made the mistake of going with the mild sauce. It needed more heat to really bring it together. The fries-in-the-burrito thing also isn't really my style. I'm more of a beans, rice, and fresh lime squeeze kind of guy, so I came away a little underwhelmed on that front. But that's a taste preference, not a knock on the place. Worth a visit, no question. Just come hungry, go spicy, and know whether you're a fries-in-your-burrito person before you order.

I've been coming here since 1992…read more. This place has been one of my favorites for years, and for good reason: the food flat-out delivers. The pork tacos are excellent, the buffet is a beautiful exercise in self-control failure, and the three enchilada plate is always a solid choice. Truthfully, it's all really good. What makes it even better is the people. Alex, Javier, and Sadie bring a fun energy that makes the whole place feel alive. Great food is one thing, but when the staff makes the atmosphere this enjoyable, it keeps you coming back. So go hungry, have a beer... or marigita, relax, and enjoy yourself. This place isn't just good - it's the kind of place you keep in your regular rotation for decades.

Sign outside lured us in. Said, "$13.99 Buffet with Drink." Turns out that if u watch long enough,…read moreit adds ONE PLATE. An obvious deceptive lure since most don't see this (we didnt). Regardless, after 15 minutes we finally got our buffet plates, then another 7min to get food on our plates (can't serve yourself). We were never asked if we wanted the one plate buffet or All-you-can-eat, and assumed the $13.99 price. We all got our bills, and each plate was around $20. The waiter then told us the lower price was for one plate only. In my case I did actually only have one plate and asked if he'd fix my bill. He said, "No. You have to tell me at the beginning." I said, "I was never told any options." He said, "I can't change your bill now." So the outside sign is deceptive, the waiter never clarifies the options when ordering, so both owner & waiter are at fault. No tip! I need more integrity from this restaurant and the waiters. Likely won't come back. Honesty is important to me, and the service timing was very subpar.
