Monday lunch special Enchiladas $11: conventional flavors, fair portion/price.
    Bryan J.

Postre Cafe is named & logoed for desserts and coffee. Yet the small dining room display case has only a handful of typical Mexican eatery desserts (like flan, tres leche, cheesecake) already pre-portioned in $7 "take away" clamshells-- no enticing visual displays of fresh pastries, cakes or sweets to be sliced or served up for you. Furthermore the walls are decorated here and there with coffee and espresso signage, but there are no café smells nor atmosphere to entice you in for morning coffee and sweets nor after-meal coffee and desserts, either. The $10.99 lunch special they advertise varies by weekday, and it is conventional American-Mex/Tex-Mex fare like enchiladas, tacos and chimichangas. The regular menu is more of the same. The service was prompt and friendly enough, yet the enchilada sauce tasted canned; the salsa bottled; the chips not-so-fresh; the refried bean-paste and rice, expected. No surprises in house-crafted sauces or entrée prep were yet discovered. While it's nice to see a little four-month-old independent restaurant in this sleepy retail strip near the southern Layton-Kaysville border, you really won't find real south-of-the-border Mexican food. However it's not bad, just not unique, and the cheerful service made it an okay visit. I was hoping to find a Mexican cafe populated with pastries, sweets, coffee, Mexican cocoa, and churros. And tho not much choice in desserts or coffee -- and definitely no espresso bar -- an opportunity for Postre Cafe to do something different would be to switch the 'free' meal accompaniments from chips, salsa, and soda to smaller-sized portions of their sweets and coffee. Assuming they don't taste pre-packaged either, it would deliver better on the theme.

Stuffed Jalapeños and tamale, chicken enchilada combos. Good amount of meat and the beans were tasty

Service was good. Waitress was really nice. Food came out hot, the stuffed jalapeños were piping hot and delicious. It has very clean fresh and new furnishings. Very nice casual atmosphere. There was only one coffee on the menu though so I gave 4 stars.

We finally made the trek from Kaysville, and it is delish! I got the Asada platter. Rice beans and choice of tortillas. Chips and salsa were fresh, and my little one got the shrimp quesadilla. Everything was great. For dessert (postre) we got churros. Fresh made and hot! We'll be back.

Food was pretty good, service was great. It's a nice little spot. I felt the food was priced high for the portions given.

The inside is very small with little to no lobby, so servers have to weave around any people standing and waiting. We were there this morning, on a Saturday, and the place was slammed. Even with people arriving non-stop, the hostess and all of the servers were very friendly and attentive. The whole place had a nice atmosphere. We were able to order shortly after we were seated and our server brought our scones with honey butter to eat while we were waiting for our food. Which arrived shortly after that. We hadn't been in for several years and were very happy with everything we had. I had chicken fried steak, which was very good and the side of hash browns were just the right amount of crispy. My husband had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns, which he enjoyed as well. He also ordered a sweet roll the size of a dinner plate and was covered in an ample amount of good-flavored frosting. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and won't wait as long to go back again!

It was a little deceiving at first, because the parking lot looked a little empty (some of the other store fronts surrounding it looked empty too). I was happy to find it tucked around the corner. When you walk it, they have a little grocery area and the pastry counter. As you walk past the grocery aisles, you can find the restaurant seating area, which is a pretty big space. I was a bit short on time, so I chose some empanadas and some pastries to go. I tried the chicken, beef, and ham & cheese, which were all delicious. I got this pastry with a fruit similar to guava, which I devoured as well. The staff was super helpful and very patient with me and my indecisiveness. I hope to come back the next time I'm in the area!

We ordered a blueberry cornbread with lemon butter off the seasonal menu, and it was very good. I'm impressed at how well the combination went together. With that said, the cornbread could have been a little hotter. The main entrees were a steak hash also off the seasonal menu and an original breakfast. I have to say the steak cash was really good. Had a chimichurri on it and another sauce that went very well with a decent amount of meat and more than enough potatoes and other ingredients. The original breakfast was scrambled eggs with some cheese on it, potatoes and bacon. Again everything was very good. They have a line of fresh juices available none of which we tried but they do serve Coke products. All in all, while I'm not really big on chain restaurants, I would definitely go back here multiple times to try different things off the menu.

It wants to be a great go-to brunch place. But what's holding it back is a pattern of "good enough" execution, some gaps in table awareness, and either front to back with house, communication, or staff education. A few examples: - I've ordered eggs "well done with fully set whites," five times Three times the whites came out runny. - One visit, a large amount of water was spilled on our table when drinks were delivered. It sat there soaking menus and making it awkward to even rest your arms until I finally grabbed paper towels from the restroom and handled it myself. - Another time, a drink was served with liquid running down the side of the glass and then spilled a little more when placed on the table, leaving the table sticky. Same outcome, same self-service cleanup. None of these are huge issues individually, but together, they start to feel like a training and attentiveness gap. On the menu side, some of the bowls (especially quinoa or potato-based ones) feel a little unbalanced--heavy on the base, light on the toppings--so you end up wishing for more substance beyond the filler. Even small details, like the overly aggressive spray nozzles in the restroom sinks, make basic things like washing your hands more frustrating than they should be. Bottom line: First Watch has all the ingredients to be excellent, but right now it's settling for "pretty good." Tighten up execution, table care, and change base to mix-in ratios, and this could easily move into top-tier brunch territory.

The longer: This place is right across the street from Syracuse High School, I stopped by because I was nearby and the good reviews seemed positive. The location is a little small, but the inside was pretty cute. Service was good but it was a little slow, I will attribute it to everything being fresh though, because it didn't have that flavor or lack thereof to being stale ingredients. As for the food itself, I was massively impressed. I got the burger with the egg on top(I forgot what it was called) and I was extremely satisfied, so much so that I'd probably put it in my top 3 for burger joints in Utah. The fries were great as well, and the fry sauce was as good as you could expect. The Oreo shake was good as well but i probably should've asked for a spoon because the chunks were too big for the straw, not a complaint but just letting you be aware of what may happen. All in all, I'd definitely come back and suggest others would as well. I couldn't quite give it a five star but it's close 4.75/5
