Last night, I went to Costanera for the first time to celebrate one of my girlfriends birthday. She explained that it was possible after consulting the kitchen, but she did so in Spanish, and I misunderstood. As a result I ended up paying double price. My pasta dish was outstanding--easily one of the best I've ever had. I got the Tallarín Verde Lomo Saltado. Since this restaurant has a separate room, there are many fan gatherings at that room screaming and celebrating their team. We seat at the outer dining hall and is much quiet. We order the Tallarin Verde with beef tenderloin and shrimp. This is Peruvian green pasta. Unfortunately the pasta green sauce is not the best that I remember in Peru or great Peruvian restaurants. Costanera Tampa is a hidden gem located in the Carrollwood area. We came in for date night to experience authentic Peruvian Cuisine, which, in my opinion, will knock your socks off. I had the Lomo Saltado ( beef filet) cooked in Peruvian spices, and soy sauce (gluten-free soy sauce is available) was absolutely delicious. This is traditionally made with regular soy sauce, so if you have Celiacs Disease, it is best to inform them so they can make it with the gluten-free soy sauce instead. Although I did have the cilantro rice, I learned that it is not gluten-free after having eaten some (it says on the menu there is beer in it). Steer clear of that rice if you have a gluten allergy and opt for the white rice that is traditionally served with it. It is one of the best dishes I have ever tasted and I highly recommend it. I also skipped the French fries because of this FYI. My husband had the seafood dish Pescado lo Macho, which was a spicy gravy covering fish, shrimp, calamari, and mussels. This also was an amazing dish, I would say 5/5 for both. They also have great cocktails and non alcoholic beverages. Their pricing is really good and you get a lot of food. The restaurant is pretty big and spaced out. They have live music many nights. We actually came in on one of the nights. There was live music, and it was fantastic. Everyone was super nice at Costanera, especially the owner and his wife. The food is truly authentic Peruvian Cuisine in every sense of the word right down to the ingredients. I would highly recommend this restaurant for date nights, girls' nights, or any kind of fun night or lunch. We had ourselves quite the Friday night! We tried an array of delicious authentic Peruvian dishes and sipped on drinks while listening to live Spanish music. First time here and it was pretty good! When we arrived it was empty and we were the only ones in there, but as the night went on, it filled up and got pretty busy (this was a Wednesday). Service was extremely friendly and quick throughout the meal! The waiter had recommendations and answered any questions we had. We started off with some ceviche (I didn't order, don't recall which) that was pretty tasty. I've had quite a bit of ceviche and this was good, but nothing spectacular for me. I ordered Red Sangria for a drink and it was delicious, I would have another glass if I went again. As for the entree, I went with the Jalea (mix of fried seafood). While it wasn't bad, it wasn't great, either. It was a generous serving of food, but nothing tasted particularly spectacular and the calamari was chewy. Part of a group of places breathing new life into the strip center on Northdale across from Whole Foods. We are still on a Peruvian food quest, this time looking for my favorite yellow sauce which it turns out has a name, "A Lo Macho". Macho meaning male, I was told it meant "worthy of a man". On a weekday for lunch we came based on photos and reviews. We were seated in the front area which was not very comfortable due to the fact we were the only customers at the time. There was a seating area with a much nicer ambiance but it was not open yet. There was an exotic appetizer served 3 ways, with shrimp, octopus and tuna. Forgot the name, I was focused more on the food than pictures. We got Pescado a Lo Macho and Jalea, which are two staples in most Peruvian restaurants. My yellow sauce was divine, the best I have had and the Jalea (Fried Seafood) was very flavorous as well. The one pitfall is the seafood was from frozen, a big disappointment for me. Not sure if it is always that way or because we were the only customers on a week day. We had a dessert and a drink we've never experienced before and both were exotic representations of typical fruits popular in Peru. I have a pic of the dessert but we sucked down that drink before I remembered to photograph it, a shame because it was as beautiful as it was delicious. Unfortunately they had no green rice that day. I will continue my search for the best Peruvian food because I want to try these dishes when made with fresh seafood! I will recommend this place because the food was so dang good and it is likely they use fresh seafood when busier, maybe. The service was stellar, I bet she would do backflips if I asked her. This could've been a four star. Service was good, very good Drinks: wine was ok Food: ordered jalea, flavor and size were on point! but it was mostly calamari rings, I am ok with that but they obviously buy the frozen rings and when thawing they let them sit for too long before frying them so they dehydrate and when frying them they become thought and rubbery and for that reason it is better to buy the whole calamari and do the cutting in house, big difference so there goes one star. Music: way too LOUD it ruined the evening because it must've been 125 decibels no kidding and for that reason I take 45 stars. For such a small place you don't need loud speakers. It was painful, specially my right ear that was facing the band. I don't blame the band because they must be deaf already but the people running this place should know better and OSHA wouldn't allow something like this for the employees and customers. They killed the evening, just horrendous loud music and the singer was good and entertaining but her voice pitch with that amplifier made me want to leave without finishing the meal but for respect to my hosts couldn't do much. Our request to lower the volume was not heard, why? everyone left that place with hearing loss. That level of noise is ok for a large theater not for a small restaurant. I just can't say enough how bad it was, it just ruined the experience. Suggestion: if you go take ear plugs and seat way back, it would be loud without the sound system, just the band without microphone and amplifier. I am so sorry for the two star but I really think it is a bad business decision to set up a band WITH a sound system, management should try spending about 1 hour under those conditions. read more

There aren't many Peruvian restaurants in the greater TB area so if you drive a long distance to go to one you really want the food to be good. This restaurant is not one of the better ones in the area, the place itself has a weird smell and decor, but once you get past those details the food was not bad. We tried the trio causa (lemony mashed potato layered with some filling, usually tuna) sampler which essentially brings three small samples of different causa fillings (traditional tuna, shrimp and octopus). The were actually pretty tasty and good to share. We then each had the fish ceviche which was not bad but I wished they had added a bit more heat (I asked for spicy but it really wasn't) as well as more corn. The portion was large and could easily have been shared. I also wish they would offer a bit of the toasted corn (cancha) to snack on before our meal, this is usually done at most Peruvian restaurants and I was surprised they didn't offer that here. read more

I went here for a Birthday party. Food was only ok, nothing to brag about. Plus it took at least 30 mins. just to get my appetizer which was just a simple one. It was literally three basic things on a plate‍ Then my main course came and it was very bland. No amount of flavor. The wait staff weren't very attentive either. They didn't come to our table ecxcept to take orders then after a long time to bring out the food. I get the cevichito de camarones which is perfect for one person, super fresh, has amazing flavor and can be customized to your spice level.
