I am usually a big fan of this place and it's one of the best Peruvian restaurants in the area. My food was excellent. I got the tacu tacu with lomo saltado and an old fashioned and started with salad. All were excellent and the portions were huge. I love the food here! Unfortunately the service was not great during this visit and our waitress was no where to be found most of the time to take our order or to bring the check. She also split our orders incorrectly and had to redo our receipts. I ordered a house salad and I don't know why but they added feta cheese and then charged me to add it. I explained this and they did remove it. None of these things were a huge deal but the amount of time that passed waiting and trying to get the attention of our waitress was horrendous. We were there over 2.5 hours. That being said usually the service is fine so maybe it was just a bad night. read more

Our order of PAPA A LA HUANCAINA Boiled potatoes | Huancaina sauce was cold. Would taste better if they were hot. My main entree ordered was the PESCADO A LO MACHO Black grouper | Tomato base sauce | Coconut milk with Choice of: Mixed seafood or Shrimp. The mixed seafood or shrimp could not be served on the side nor was there a substitute available. I'm glad I did not make a fuss as I ended up sending back the dish. The grouper dish did not taste fresh. Having had grouper the day before this grouper was vastly different. My first bite tasted for lack of a better term "fishy ". It tasted more like cod. My cousin tasted it and agreed it was not good. Our server was great, she asked how it was and did not hesitate to replace the dish. I then ordered the Risotto with beef. The beef was perfectly cooked, the Risotto very cheesy. My cousin had the Risotto with shrimp and enjoyed it. Overall a pleasant birthday dinner with the exception of the grouper. read more

We shared appetizers: Ceviche Mixto, Ceviche de Mango y Palta (w/mango & avocado) and Tequenos & Yuquitas (deep fried mozzarella cheese in wonton wrapper & yucca stuffed w/ cheese). I had Tallarin Verde (spaghetti w/ pesto sauce) w/ Ribeye, which was incredibly delicious! Things seem to have changed here and not for the better which is very sad as this has long been a favorite go-to of ours. Handwriting has been on the wall for some time. It is the little things I have noticed specifically including how many if not most of the wine racks are now empty including the beautiful wine room. And there seem to be too many new untrained servers - last night had to show ours how to open a bottle of wine and remind him that I needed a spoon to stir sugar in an espresso. What I paid corkage for, I have no idea and would have purchased something had things been better. Last night was also a major milestone night for us which I noted when we made the reservation. Not brought up on any way other than assigning us a brand new server. As for the food, the paella was OK, smaller than usual and the steak anticuchos de carne (steak on skewers with chimichurris sauce on the side) was not pleasing - actually very tough. I would love to see them regain the magic that brought us back so many times. However for now, this is no longer on our list of favorites to take friends and celebrate special occasions. :( read more

I stopped into Terra Sur Café with a friend, and what a wonderful surprise it turned out to be! I'm already excited to go back next time I'm in the area. We started with the ceviche sampler, which was fresh and delicious. We requested no spice, and they thoughtfully let us know in advance that one of the samplers still had a little kick to it--which it did--but it was still fantastic. We also shared the ribeye with pesto, and wow... absolutely delish on both accounts! The ambiance is great too. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly, which is a huge plus, and the inside dining room has a cute, cozy feel with white tablecloths that make it feel just a little special. For dessert, we tried the bread pudding. It was a different take than the traditional version, but it tasted great--especially with the vanilla ice cream melting over the top. Late dinner to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. They were able to get us a table right away without a reservation (whoops). The decor was upscale and we were glad we'd opted to get a sitter for our toddler. There was a loud drunk lady and even worse we were seated right next to one of my least favorite coworkers (what are the chances), but of course these aren't knocks against the restaurant. The lion's mane mushroom empanadas my wife got were excellent. Full of a earthy melted cheese and chunks of savory chewy mushroom, served with both a spicy pepper sauce and chimichurri. I went for another one of the specials, the street cart ceviche. Oh boy was this great. The raw red snapper was fresh, chilled, and brightly flavored with lemon juice and contrasted perfectly with the crispy, salty, hot calamari. I went back and forth between the two until I was stuffed, barely able to handle the creme brule cheesecake we split for dessert. A great meal that I quickly turned around and recommended to my friends. The best part? That coworker never even saw me. read more

This is from Peru, so different texture different taste. They had a huge wine selection for those who enjoy drinking wine. I seem to cater to an older crowd with a more refined pallet for wine. We had Tostones with chicken. The flavor and seasoning was spot on. I enjoyed it wet. It's a bit soupy however that's exactly how I like to eat this type of dish. Executive summary: pricey, but good. This place is in a strip mall. Almost all the good restaurants in Anchorage are in strip malls, so no hate from me! The cocktail menu is fun and splashy. They have lots of great-looking food. The prices are all just really high though, especially for Tampa. I got the Anticuchos de Carne, and it was incredible. Meat was cooked to my liking, the veggies were fresh, and the house made sauces were spicy! I'd recommend ordering from the restaurant next door though (same owners), the prices are much more reasonable. read more

Lomo Saltado was delicious, but calamari was a bit rubbery and ceviche was a bit bland. Most entre items were in the $30-40 range, which is a bit more pricey than most Peruvian nearby. That first course was enough for a meal for 3 people, but we were celebrating so we then ordered the parihuela (seafood bouillabaisse), Risotto de Camarones, and Terra Sur salad to share. Another round of drinks...I was a fan of their house old fashioned but my friends enjoyed the selection of South American wines on hand. We ended our evening sharing the Bread Pudding bites with ice cream and a nice cup of coffee. Our only complaint was how close we were seated to others, but some strategic shifts would make the dining experience feel less community table and more comfortable. The wine room looked lovely and a private tasting was starting when we were wrapping up our evening. What a BAD experience- do not go to this place if you have any type of food allergy or restrictions and want to know what is in a dish... just attempted to go for a late lunch with grandparents, self and teenager. I have some extreme allergies but can usually find something that works IF the kitchen can answer easy questions. to make a long story short, the only menu item I could safely eat was sold out, and the server said, "I'll give you more time" and I said, "I have major restrictions though, I have some questions " and she repeated "just take your time, I'll be back" and started to walk away again .... There was only one other active table on the entire restauran, she was not in the weeds but it perhaps just eager to get back to smoking it in the walkin. The other three in our party quickly ordered and the server just started pointing to things, "this is good, here, you can eat this." Ummmm the child didn't even ASK what my allergies are. she talked over me and I finally said, "you know what? Just bring me a piece of bread and I'll eat that while they have lunch." She said, "ok! Sure!" Left the table, and very quickly came back and said, "oh by the way, I need to charge you for bread for your lunch. It's not just going to be free." Well, I don't care if I was charged for it, but the fact that she wouldn't engage and tell me if my allergies could be accommodated and instead had a dismissive attitude was the final straw. I went to the car and the other diners canceled their orders. Maybe the food would have been fantastic. I'll never know. And whoever the 21 year old (she told us her age...?) blonde server was? I've been living in citrus park for around 3 years and this was the first time a tried this restaurant, and everything was beyond wonderful, starting with the place, everything looks so clean and beautiful, that you really feel that they put an amazing effort to make this place look like this, it's beautiful! So I went with my boyfriend on a date here, and we were gladly surprised by Terra Sur Cafe, I started with an Espresso Martini that honestly took me back to life! It was so good that I had to take two! As an appetizer we took the Pulpo Al Olivo and the Causa Limeña with Chicken, both of them were so good! The Pulpo has an olive sauce on the side that was unbelievable! After that, we ordered our entrees, I pick the Lomo Saltado and my boyfriend took the Bisteck a Lo Pobre, their rice, their way to seasoned everything was incredible, I felt like I was in Peru for a minute! A place I used to frequent years ago, at least 20 years, has developed into a real gem. This review is limited to my most recent visit since it has changed so much. Located on the quiet side of a an old strip center on Erlich that once housed a Post Office, the center is seeing new growth and revitalization. Terra Sur is now double the size it was nearly 20 years ago. The decor is beautiful, cozy and romantic. The staff is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The meal was well presented and flavorful. An excellent Tempranillo paired perfectly and the Peruvian lager was tasty and refreshing. There is also outdoor seating and bar seating available which should attract a wide variety of patrons. I would be remiss if I did not mention the wonderful wine selection and the amazing collection of art on the walls. I actually have one of their paintings on my wall at home from a barter I made long ago. The Pulpo appetizer was very tasty, it had a generous portion and two side dipping sauces. One made from Kalamata olive, a brilliant idea and their house Chimichuri. The 4 star rating is due to the beef. My ribeye, while a nice size, was not quality beef, no marbling whatsoever. It was tough to cut and dry inside. The wonderful broth/sauce it was covered with was the saving grace. Made it mostly edible. I ate the outside cap which is fatty and tender but the rest is in my fridge and seems destined for the trash unless I slice it and add it to a jus, stir fry or gravy. They also use flap meat for their Churrasco, which to me is a wrong and shows bad form. Churrasco (skirt) is available in 2 cuts, inside and outside skirt. I find it bothersome when merchants call flap meat churrasco. It's a cheaper cut that should not be confused with skirt. However, when made properly, it can be extremely delicious. Just call it what it is. I definitely recommend this place, it is a delightful setting with many culinary treasures to be discovered. Just be aware of how beef is "featured" here and order accordingly. Come get ya' some. read more

I am a bit torn about Terra Sur. I've been several times. They do so many things good and several things less good, in my opinion. We initially went before their remodel. The decor was bold and vibrant, and it felt like we were in Peru. The walls were painted red with colorful art all over the place. I felt like I was on vacation. Since they've remodeled, it is much more sedate. The colors are browns and creams. The art is more modern and sophisticated, for sure. But somehow, it feels less like a trip to Peru and more like a trip to a Peruvian-inspired restaurant. It's not bad. It's just not as fun. We went for dinner again last night, which confirmed my opinion. They do a fantastic job with appetizers, cocktails, and desserts. Phenomenal! Their ceviche is perfectly balanced and cravable. And I do crave it, which is how we keep going back. We had the Crab Causa, very nice, and the grilled octopus, which was delicious! Our drinks were also excellent: delicious, creative, and well-mixed. Dessert was mango-passionfruit cheesecake and bread pudding, as recommended by our server. She was 100% right btw. The bread pudding was unbelievable: creamy, crunchie, and flavorful. Highly recommend! Get it if you have it on the menu when you go. Now for the less good: our mains. Whoever makes their apps and desserts is not the same person who makes the mains. The mains were heavy, oily, overly salted, and disappointing after the perfection of the starters and ceviche. Our server, Maria, was so sweet. She made countless recommendations to us and was right each time. Thank you for your insight, Maria! There is a small private wine room that I suppose parties could reserve. We were a party of 6 and got a booth, and I wish I could remember our server's name but he was great! Now the food. Seriously, it was all so good, that this is easily one of those rare places where I need to try most--if not all--dishes they offer rather than stick to one "tried and true". The ceviche, amazing. I wish the Pisco sour quality matched the food. Went with a group and for the price points of everything , you would think they wouldn't take shortcuts and cheat out the customers on drink quality. Most nice peruvian restaraunts carry Barsol which is the best pisco in the world. Why is anauthentic "peruvian" spot not giving consumers the best peru has to offer? Warming! Not the same place it used to be! I lived in Tampa for 13 years and used to enjoy going here often, but hadn't been in 6 years. Today, I brought my wife here for the first time hoping to share this place I used to love. Me and my wife ordered Paella and Churrasco, and it seemed like the cook lost his ethnicity. The paella was simple fried rice with peas and some meat, but imagine an Iranian person who has never had any Spanish food doing the seasoning. Fried rice with peas and meat is not paella. The chimmichirri had no garlic, vinegar, or salt and only enough oregano to give the green color but no taste, not even in the oil used, and the meat was boring too, no flavor! They had fries instead of yuca, and no longer had chica morado on the drink menu, and I only saw white people eating there, no Peruvians. I live in a small town 1 hour from Tampa now and really look forward to yummy exciting food when I do come to Tampa, so it was very disappointing to find out that Terra Sur fell so drastically from a once vibrant authentic culinary experience to the most dull flavorless meal I have had this year. read more
