Mel: I have shopped WinCo Foods, for years, across OR and WA states. Store 155 in Billings, MT reflects the worst customer journey experience I have ever seen at any grocery store. From the pervasiveness of untrained employees, to the persistence of losing good employees (checkers), to the rows of unpriced products, an always filthy restroom, and the absence of staffing the front desk or staffing it with again, untrained help. Your complete absence of leadership culminates in a failure across the entire customer journey. Store #155 resides in the failed KMART building. It looks like Winco is going to fail here too. WinCo (Billings, MT) - Lost Phone Policy is Unreasonable I had a very frustrating experience with WinCo's lost and found policy, and I feel it's important to share it. I accidentally left my phone in the family bathroom at the Billings WinCo. When I realized it was missing and returned to the store, I asked at customer service if a phone had been turned in. The employee asked for a description, which I gave--including the phone type and color. He admitted they had a phone that matched the description, but because the person who turned it in claimed it was found in the women's bathroom, he refused to even show it to me. He wouldn't let me look at it for peace of mind or even attempt to verify that it was mine. I went home and tried calling the phone several times via Google Voice--no answer. So, I drove back to WinCo and found the customer service counter unattended. I flagged down another employee and explained the situation. I told her I just wanted to see the phone to verify whether it was mine. She asked me what appears on the screen when it turns on. Honestly, I had no idea--I've never paid attention to the startup screen. I told her I could prove it was mine with my thumbprint. She responded, "You could just grab it and run." That was baffling. Then I remembered that my phone has an OtterBox case. That finally got her to take the phone out of the drawer--though she still held onto it tightly while I tried to unlock it with my thumb. It wasn't working (maybe because of how she was holding it), and I could tell she was getting suspicious. Then I entered my PIN, the phone unlocked, and only then did she hand it over. I mentioned that other stores like Walmart simply let customers unlock their phones to prove ownership, and her response was: "We're not Walmart." I then asked, "So if someone doesn't remember a minor detail, they just never get their phone back?" Her answer: "Well, you could just say it's yours when it isn't." At that point, I was done. I walked out and decided I won't be shopping there anymore. The worst part? As she searched through the drawer, I could hear multiple phones inside. I can't help but wonder how many people never got their phones back simply because they couldn't recall what screen pops up or what case they were using. That drawer might as well be a black hole for lost phones. The moral: pray you never lose your phone in WinCo. You might not get it back--even if you can unlock it in front of them. read more

Horrible experience went into Winco overnight to do some shopping. Left my debit card in my truck went out and got my debit card came back and the guy put all my groceries back. I had to go back and look for all my groceries and then a new guy check me out. Isaiah was doing a great job and then the guy that put all my groceries away try to Interrupted him to help the guy behind and then hit the belt and crushed my new groceries that I got. It reminds me of one of the wholesale clubs (or even a wal-mart) -- grey concrete floors, high ceilings, open concept. It's like an open-market, noise and all. Compare it to one of the chain grocery stores, an Albertson's if you will, or even a Target or Walmart grocery section and you might be surprised, or at least know what to expect. With a good selection of name-brands as in any grocery store, next to those name-brands is the WinCo brand at a slightly lower price, and ingredient-wise, is the same. If you're an only-organic foodie, used to ('lucky' you) shopping at the store here in Billings that specializes in that or one of the other health-food stores, or if you're from outside the area and are a Whole Foods or even a Trader Joe's shopper, WinCo is not going to become a regular stop for you. Don't even pretend. For anyone who, for whatever reason, is comfortable with mass market products supplemented with regular fresh fruit or veggies, WinCo is a good alternative to the chain grocery store. Organic food choices are limited here (really limited), but this isn't WinCo's wheelhouse. It caters to customers who might want to support a locally-owned/run business on a limited budget. There are bulk items of grains, pasta, nuts, candy, coffee beans, and even dog treats. Weirdly, Parmesan cheese is also here in the bulk scoop-your-own section. There is both a fresh-made pizza and sushi section and some pre-made meals if you're in a hurry. WinCo doesn't take credit cards and not having to pay those fees helps them keep the prices lower. I do most of my shopping here and I am usually satisfied with my experience. Not today for sure. Today nearly all of the stock people were standing around talking in the busiest aisles with carts full of broken boxes. I use a motor cart and there were multiple times I had to go all around the section because the employees were not going to stop talking or move the garbage cart. After fighting that mess, I finally got to the checkout and the cashier was horribly rude. She had questions about some of my items that were bulk because she couldn't read the numbers. Instead of handing them to me to see, she tossed them all on the writing table. Remember I'm in a handicapped cart, so I had to pull forward to read the numbers to her and then back up again to where I can swipe my card. Which meant everyone behind me had to back up as well so that I could pay. Then the customer behind me had his items in a basket and just sat it on the conveyor. She rudely told him that his items had to be out of the basket and then promptly dumped all of his items upside down on the belt. I helped him turn his snack trays right side up and stand his bottles up but the damage to his snack platters was already done. They were all jumbled and messy looking. He had them stacked neatly in the basket so they wouldn't get that way. As Far as I'm concerned, if you are too old or too tired to leave your bitchy self at the door when you come to work then maybe working with the public isn't for you. A smile and hello go a long way. I had about 20 items at the most standing in the express self-checkout and apparently the lady working the self-checkout took it upon herself to count my items and then tell me I had to get in a different lane. I had already been standing in line for over 20 minutes I decided to just leave all together and leave my cart with 20 items in it. Great prices and a big selection of food it's my one stop food store. The place is always clean and the staff is friendly, the prices are better than any other grocery store and I think the food is better quality than Walmart plus it a better price. Fruits and vegetables are the best. read more

Has WORLDS TINIEST organic section. Very little to offer for people who do not eat junk food or processed foods. Loud, crowded, big. Like Costco but less nice. Same clientele as Walmart. Not a fan. The deli at Winco has a great selection, but why do I really go there? Their peach mango salsa is DA BOMB!! I could drink this stuff! The store is open 24hrs which is really convenient. Very well lit, clean, spacious store. It is near the center of town so it's convenient for most people in the Billings area. The prices on food items are very competitive with stores like Walmart. I really like the deli and the products that they provide. The only negative thing would be that the non-food items aren't the cheapest compared to others but they do have deals on that stuff sometimes! I would highly recommend this store for most of your food & drink needs! read more

"This is by far the WORST place I have ever been with such defiance, ignorance and unenforced State mandate for mask wearing. I've counted at least 22 people not wearing masks. For a company to allow the risk to their employees and customers is just appalling. Even my neighborhood Walmart grocery monitors the door. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!!!" You have a cashier named ALICE. first time I've been there since I moved here a week ago from Kansas City. My sister has health issues and Alice was very rude to her. My sister got emotional and shakey because of her. In a customer service job you need to be aware and nice to CUSTOMERS that make your job POSSIBLE. I WILL NOT RETURN TO YOUR STORE. I was very satisfied with the selection of bulk items BUT the cashier that checked me out had the personality of a iceberg. For one:she didn't even greet me or the other people with me. For two: she threw my bags of bulk items into the conveyor belt. For three: she never said thank you or come again or have a nice evening. So, no greeting, rough with merchandise, and no closing statement. I will continue to shop here as I love the selection but I think management should teach the cashiers some manners. Brought my own jars to the store to fill with rice and flour in an attempt to reduce on plastic waste. I even brough in an empty jar so when I checked out the cashier would know how much the jar weighed. When I arrived at the checkout I was informed by two employees that they couldn't do the simple math and that I had to pay for the weight of the jar.
