My favorite Costco in the DMV. Fairfax is the seventh circle of hell with crowds of people and the smallest parking lot. Chantilly gets busy on the weekends, but never as busy as a weekend at Fairfax. This location is manageable during the week. It usually has everything I'm looking for (Fairfax sells out faster). Because there are strip malls neighboring, there's ample parking overflow. At peak hours during the weekend, you can find a spot near Potbelly. Pharmacists are kind and helpful. Expect lines on the weekend. Overall customer service is hit or miss- sometimes I'm met with the friendliest sample distributor/ welcomer/ or cashier, other times they just can't be bothered. Meh, no skin off my back. I'll just get my $5 chicken and be on my way. I love any Costco food court. Staff here is also hit or miss- lately there's a moody teenager that just wants to leave. Costco chantilly's tire shop works faster than the one in Fairfax. I got my tires rotated in less than an hour compared to the 3 hours at Fairfax. Pro tip, you don't have to hangout at Costco while you wait, there's a nice bakery, tous le jour within walking distance to get work done and/or hangout while you wait. This is the worst of all the Costco locations in the DMV area. I doubt I'll be back. Last week I was looking for steak, something to cook on Christmas. Ribeye was the goal and I found it. Other folks were thinking the same thing. They had thicker cut and thinner cut steaks packaged up. The recipe called for thick cut so that's what I went with. I don't think Costco can control the price of the meat but the price was up around $30 for 4 ribeyes. I picked it up anyway. Next was the unsalted butter...took a bit to find but I grabbed that as well. This process may have taken 10 minutes. The store is jammed as I expected. Self checkout (where I usually go) was backed up 20 people deep. Ok, I'll wait for a cashier. The line I picked had a couple getting stuff packed into the cart, a couple of older ladies, a person in front of me with 2 items and I have 2 items. The store really should impose a fee on customers who refuse to load their stuff on the belt. The old ladies were way to busy talking to load anything on the belt. The cashier has to do all the extra work for some reason. When I finally made it through and paid for my stuff it was 45 minutes. 45 minutes! Next time I'll drive to the Fairfax location. Maybe it's time to hire faster cashiers or have helpers taking stuff out of the carts of customers who are too lazy to put their stuff on the belt. Two items took almost an hour. I mean, what can I say?? This is Costco. They have their ish together and know what they are doing, hence the crowds. This location is laid out slightly different from the nearest two warehouses--Sterling & Leesburg--so i personally find it a little difficult to navigate (although it really isn't!). As is the case with most warehouses, this carries items seasonally or they rotate their products every once in a while. I have a love/hate relationship with Costco because of that. The self-checkout counters are my go-to. I find it easier to just scan my own items, unless I have heavy items, then I have to wait for someone to come over with a scanner. Once checkout is completed, it's back to the madness of navigating past the crowd at the checkouts, food courts and the exit line. Customer service is hit or miss. They are just so busy that sometimes the staff are friendly, other times, they are just there to do their job, which works. The parking lot is just insane. There isn't any nice way of saying it; it is a pain to get in and out of the entire shopping center and the parking lot. I love Costco but think 5 stars would be too high, but don't think it's worthy of less than 4. read more

BLUF: Customer Service has fallen to all time lows. Too many instances to count of poor experiences. The once former champ in customer service is no longer and the product shrinkflation is rather sneaky if yiu haven't been shopping there long enough to know the original sizes of products. But shrinkflation aside, the customer service is the absolute worst. No real standouts anymore that sets Costco above and beyond the rest of the competition. Costco used to be really strict about the products that made it into their warehouses. Not anymore. Careful selection, quality, unique variety has noticeably decreased in the warehouses and on Costco.com. The giant of big box has fallen from grace. No one ever wants to help when asked let alone do their job and ask the customers when they're looking like they could use some assistance. When checking out, none of the cashiers even greet or thank you anymore, including the managers who hop on to cashier. Whatever happened to basic politeness or social skills. Professionalism does not exist at the warehouses anymore. They don't ask you whether you want a box for your goods, don't know how to pack boxes, toss things haphazardly back into the cart, never make eye contact or smile, and a lot of the cashiers get pissy because you're interrupting their conversations with other front end people. Back in the good ol' days when customer service was primo at Costco, you'd get written up & pulled from cashiering if caught doing any of the aforementioned. That means your pay would decrease. A dude from the bakery came by to yell at me for picking up baked goods to look at them & accused me of wrecking them. They were already smashed when I got there which is why I was looking for an unsmashed package. He didn't offer to help. Instead he just stomped off & then came back after I walked away to stand there & shake his head all pissy because I had lifted up a package of cakes. Newsflash, buddy...Hundreds of people shop there each day & they're going to rifle through the goods. It happens in every store or market. Get used to it & help customers, because, well, it's part of your job. For the many times I've had to transfer or pack my own merch into my cart, not once did a cashier or assistant thank me for helping. One cashier just stood there & watched me move stuff from the counter to my cart & then I had to run to the other side to pay. Instead of jumping in to help, she walked away to talk to her coworker. I've been a member longer than most of these cashiers have been alive. The cost of membership has gone up so much, the benefits of membership have plummeted, and the cost savings shopping at Costco ain't so great anymore. These negatives on top of the horrid customer service are enough to make me drop the membership & shop elsewhere. Worth the drive? I'm rethinking dropping my cash here going forward, and I'd recommend you rethink joining or shopping there, too, unless Costco starts improving their standards rapidly! read more

This Costco location in Chantilly is probably the most efficient and least chaotic of Costcos in the DMV area. From navigating the parking lot; I usually would have to circle a number of times and fight for a spot but this Chantilly location I found plenty of parking and was able to navigate around with ease. The warehouse itself was sooooo quiet. Like that has never happened in all the other warehouses Ive been in! It was quite shocking tbh. Usually it's so loud and chaotic but I was shocked at how quiet and less busy it was (I came around noon!). I found the shoppers at this location to be sooo nice and helpful too. I was struggling to get storage plastic containers that was piled high and stuck together. Being a shortie; I was having a hard time pulling them up and off the shelf. A nice gentlemen walked by and without hesitation helped me with getting them down. I have never been helped by other shoppers at any other locations. The check out lanes were short and moved fast too. I might have to make this Chantilly location my go to warehouse. read more

So quick and easy to get around. I work about a mile away so I come during the lunch hour usually. They have the scanners where you scan your card to enter. They also have self scanners to leave, and there are always a few people checking the traffic on that so you don't have to monitor. I also get gas from here. Best time to go is early in the morning or I go during my lunch break. Never have to wait more than a minute. read more

Conveniently located at the intersection of Route 50 & Rt. 28 in the shopping center! There is plenty of parking as it should be cause this place is always packed!! Be patient or park wayyy out to avoid any issues. The warehouse is huge and offers a plethora of products and services! TODAY, I was armed with a short list of must pick up items and for the most part I stuck with it! I almost broke from list and snagged some beautiful and fresh whole Branzino fish! I held strong though. The sampling stations are back as shoppers moved about the warehouse! It's really the place to go if you have an open mind and a boat load of money to pick up absolute needs and things that might not have been on your list! I saw a beautiful patio set that I would have snagged if I had a patio area! LOL. Seriously though, Costco has everything and more. Don't be deterred by the imaginary lines that some folks form as they are not paying attention to the real lines that are moving swiftly and effortlessly with two people working the register to scan and move folks along! As other Costcos, they offer appliances, auto/tires, items for babies and kids, clothing, handbags, computers/printers, electronics, furniture, hardware, health and beauty products, home/decor items, jewelry/watches, office products, patio/outdoor items, items for pets, and travel/luggage items. The staff here are friendly and helpful, the customer service line moves along, and the check-out lines are directed efficiently. This is one of my preferred Costco locations in the DMV due to the fact it doesn't get super crowded. Even on weekends, I find it to be less crowded than others in the area such as Fairfax. On a weeknight, it's even better and you can park pretty close and I've never had to wait in a super long line here. Their food court also is quick compared to others in the area but due to the layout of the store, it can get congested. I visited last night (weds evening). Overall, Costco is really hit or miss depending on location with their "death star" items (i.e., markdowns). When I visited last night they didn't have a ton of clothing on sale but in the past, they have. Check out lines were non-existent at self checkout, however, an employee accused me of cutting in line (I apologized but I truly did not see anyone in line). The food I ordered took less than 2 minutes and the pizza had foil on it without me having to ask. However, they were out of drink tops, some sodas came out clear and needed replacing, and there was soda all over the floor. I'm considering this a one-off and giving them the benefit of the doubt here as this hasn't happened before. read more

The shopping is great, the food court ruined the trip though. I got 4 pieces of pizza on Halloween to take home for my wife and I and I asked for a pizza box and was told "we don't have those". When I pointed to the stack of boxes 2 feet to the left, the employee pointed me towards the regular crates for groceries. Cue some guy buying 15 pizzas telling me "so you can go and get a crate right?" I havent been that angry in years. So simple, so rude. Got home with grease everywhere, cold pizza (we live less then 1 mile away) and more generally angry then I've been in a long time. Happy Halloween to us. We all love Costco. I mean, what would we do without the access to industrial-sized bags of frozen dumplings or large sized bottles of laxatives sufficient for a family of 20? Costco is literally there for all your needs from top to bottom, and most definitely everything in between. This particular Costco I feel has adequate parking, although navigating through any Costco parking lot during the weekend is a risk in and of itself. The people here are generally friendly and helpful and I can usually locate an associate not too far away if I have any product-related queries. I do miss my free samples though (thanks COVID), and I still hate the fact that I have to walk through the entire store just to pick up my favorite rotisserie chicken, but that won't be enough to stop me from coming back. Visited Chantilly location on Monday only to be confronted with howling and screeching from 10 foot tall Halloween "Werewolf" that could be heard non-stop through the store. Included in large display of additional over-the-top Halloween items in the middle of the store. IT'S JULY. I turned around, walked out, and won't be back until they either turn this thing off, remove it, or the end of September, at the earliest. FYI, I spend at least $200-400+ a month at this location. I and others don't need to be harassed by this howling, screeching nonsense in July for a holiday for kids that lasts 4 hours at the end of October. For businesses that say they have customer's that are "really into" Halloween...1. Those people are obnoxious and more interested in attention than entertaining kids or anyone else. 2. THEY CAN WAIT. Dumb move by Costco and any other business that has jumped onto this ridiculous trend. You just lost my business for months. read more

They are very racist towards black people just because they don't upgrade to a black card to benefit Costco and on Sunday they refused to let basic memberships cardholders in at 9am we have to unto 10:01am to be let in, they refused to box up your item, unorganized they are trained to target black people. read more

Been a member of Costco for years now; and Chantilly is by far my favorite location as it offers a slightly more high end product mix than Fairfax (with more organic food offerings), is less crowded (although don't get me wrong, Costco is always busy and they really should expand their hours) and now has a large gas station (originally this location had none). The specific grips other reviewers noted here not are not exclusive to this location. And they hardly matter relative to the real value you get shopping here and buying in bulk. Posting to give thanks to Harrison from the Chantilly, VA Tire Service. Went in with 3 nails in my tire. Got there 20-30 mins before they opened. Cold outside with 5 kids with my youngest being a 1.5yr old and with no other form of transportation. I was told when I got to the counter that I would have to wait till the end of the day. Harrison who was not the original team member helping me but helping another customer read my tough situation. He discretely informed the team member who was helping me to allow me priority where I only had to wait less than 2hrs. I am forever thankful for Harrison and his kindness to help me. This is just your average Costco. Not much to say about products and quality because it's the same as all the other Costcos in the nova area. I came here on a Monday afternoon around 1pm just trying to run an errand and restock on some food. It wasn't too crowded which was great, but I'm not surprised since it's a Monday afternoon. The store itself was very well stocked and there were a lot of samples available. Only thing I did not appreciate was the very pushy lady who interrupted me while I was at self checkout and wanted to separately scan my Costco card with her scanner so that she could aggressively try to have me upgrade my membership. I think I said no 3 times and she wasn't accepting my answer, so my husband chimed in and also said no a few times and she finally backed off. She even told me she saw me shop here several times. This was literally my 2nd time at this location. So, the lying and overly aggressive selling tactics were extremely annoying and borderline rude. Don't bother your customers, especially if they already say "no". I will just continue to shop at the Sterling location instead of here. read more

Costco's are all great but this location is both inconvenient in terms of ease of access and store layout. It takes forever to reach the parking lot due to the four way stop sign. Now with the Lidl open, it's even more hectic. The layout of the store causes mass traffic jams (i.e. food court in the middle of the line to exit). There isn't as formal of a process for checkout lines either. At Fairfax, the staff is very diligent about one line so it's abundantly clear. The staff here doesn't care and everyone cuts in the lines randomly. Need to fix that! read more

How ironic... Costco has a "customer service" email that provides no service! After ordering a refrigerator, dishwasher, oven/range, and microwave, the 'installer' Costco sent out pressured me to pay him $650 to complete the installation. When I declined, his 'helper' disappeared. This man became angry and loud. I felt so threated that I ran to my next-door neighbor and asked him to come over so that I wouldn't be alone. Terrible.. Terrible customer service. When checking in and checking out, if any assistance is needed in the warehouse... it is the most unpleasant. The customers speed throughout the store without any concern. The parking lot is okay if you park far away from the entrance like across the lot and walk up or near the gas station... hence the one star. read more

I do have to say - during the pandemic, Costco in general - but especially this Costco has really stepped up. Reducing the amount of items you can purchase, reducing the amount of people can come in, spacing the customers out in the waiting line as well as the the check out line. During the difficulty of keeping items in stock with so many vendors - Chantilly Costco has be able to restock much needed items like meat and toilet paper weekly. They are even able to keep in stock non essential items like flowers - which my BF bought last time we were there as they make me happy and brighten up the space at home, now that we are living inside full-time. I also witnessed a Costco Employee educating shoppers without masks - about bringing a face covering or mask next time they shop. They then went from behind a counter and handed them individually sealed one-time use masks so the shoppers that had been standing in line for a while - were not turned away. That act of kindness was just really amazing to see! Layout is nice but place is constantly packed on weekends. Beware of scammers "playing" violin in the parking lot. They had 4-5 samples out but barely any pies which was a bummer. I love their Caesar salads and their self check out lines. The biggest issue here is the food system- I called ahead for a full pepperoni pizza and when I got to the food area, they had no idea where my order was. I ended up waiting another 35 minutes for them to make a full pizza. Now the pepperoni pizza was great, tons of pepperoni and the crust is favorable. Just seems pointless to order ahead pizza if it takes over an hour to pick it up. read more

This is probably the best Costco within 20-30 miles radius. First of all it's never too crowded and parking is almost always available close to the warehouse. The selection of items here are also very good and the inside is never too congested. Whenever I buy gift items someone handles it very quickly and provides the item fast. This location is organized and almost always clean. The tire center is slow in doing the work but I am sure that would be with other locations as well. I brought my car for tire rotation and it took 2 hours to get the rotation done and I was there when the warehouse had just opened. This is my preferred Costco center and now that they opened the gas station as well. read more

Stopped here after work to buy some water since they now sell the brand of water I like, I may find my way here more often. Surprisingly it was not crowded so I was able to get in and out. The customer service at the self checkout can use a refresh. As you can imagine, the case of water, which is in a box is rather heavy, if you will. The gentleman on check out guard duty at the self check out saw I had the water and kinda just stood there as if I was going to lift that box up yet again too slide it across the self checkout. Luckily another employee saw that I was about to pick the box up and came over with the gun and scanned the boxes for me, bless her for real. The lines at the regular checkout were ridiculously long, given there were lines in all of the two to three lanes that were open, I feel like once the line is more than 2 folks deep, they should open another register. While the self checkout is a option and actually moved faster than the other lanes, I would have went through a regular lane if I did not mind extending my visit by another 30 minutes, but not today, not on this visit. I am not opposed to coming here again yet, make sure you have ample amount of time and every ounce of patients you can possibly muster up. Proceed with caution, if you dare. read more
