Customer service is not only bad, it's criminal. Imagine you're in line paying. You notice as your boxing up your purchases that your receipt says you were charged twice for a single item. You point this out to the cashier. Instead of apologizing or fixing the mistake, the cashier tells you to go to the line of 20 people waiting in some customer service line. Thievery from the cashier and then the arrogance to shift the problem to someone else. Stories like this happen every few times I go to Costco. They just has a horrible staff. read more

Costco Tire , they will sell you the tire online and give you a free install. Try to schedule it however, 4 calls in and I can't get them to schedule me, twice they said the tire didn't arrive, Costco.com says they have had it. Then they just stopped calling back. The employees at this location couldn't care any less about you as customer or a human. It's a simple concept on why I choose to shop at Costco. Products at the right price point with a great return policy. I don't know about Costco. Their produce and vegetables go bad within a week. I find myself constantly returning food. This is exhausting. Is Costco the new Aldi? The reason I joined Costco was the deals and quality products. NO MORE! I will start shopping at Whole Foods. Customer service and returns have been okay. I'm aware of the whole shopping cart being everywhere in the parking lot of Costco because I've gone to multiple locations and it always happens. Figured it must be a Costco thing. But this place? So much worse than others because of the way the parking lot is designed. The lot is narrow near the entrance and widens up as you go further away. Because the lot is so narrow near the entrance, there's only limited number of cars like 6-10 (or so) as opposed to a loooooong spot with 20+ cars. I get so annoyed when I see carts being anywhere where cars are supposed to be. I've witnessed carts rolling in high winds and crashing into cars. I do not ever want that happen to my car so I always make sure I return the carts in the carts section or back to Costco building. Well, clearly not at this location. It's everywhere. When I say everywhere, it's between the cars, where the trees are, in the middle of the lot where cars should be parked; and not spotty here and there, but a lot. I felt so unsafe with my car being parked at such location! I have other suburban Costco options so I'd rather go there than this city Costco location. One plus with this location was that there was a cashier and someone else who bagged my items. I went on a weeknight and this still happened. I haven't had people who bagged my items in awhile so that was nice about this location. And walking out, my receipt checker said, "have a great day!" I can't remember the last time I was greeted at a Costco. read more

Service at the cafeteria was extremely rude (they were working on September 1st at 7 pm). Went to get pizza and scolded me because they had "been saying my name for a while." I literally payed and walked right up there and they yelled out Erica which is not my name so how was I supposed to know? Why is the chicken so spongy from the rotisserie leg quarters leftovers? Just saying I used the thighs to make a pot pie with some pillsbury crescent rolls and that is tasty. Costco is simply worth the money. The fresh meat selection is affordable and fantastic. The wine selection is good and affordable. The quality of many products ranges from excellent to mediocre (with some cheaply made clothing options) but with the amazing return policy you can't lose. I have been a member for years, and am always encouraging family members to join. If nothing else, replenish your supply of paper towels, toilet paper and trash bags at the best prices. The only caveat is that most things are sold in bulk. So if you don't have much space, then invite a friend to share the carload of goods. read more

Even though there was an underwhelming selection of samples due to RONA, we still had the time of our lives. We even bought Costco uniforms while we were there to remember our trip! I came here for my prescription glasses. This is just about my glasses. I liked the selection of frames that they had and better deals than in stores. I got my prescription here and the prescription for my lenses were so bad even though I went back it was so bad I couldn't adjust to it even after wearing it for over a week. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years and I wish he could of fixed it properly but I didnt know how many more times he would have to fix his mistake. This Costco or Costco in general has become one of my favorite stores. Generally i shop for the basic household items such as laundry detergents, spring bottled water, toilet paper etc etc..the list goes on.. lately i have been expanding more so into the food and clothing and other items. Some great food items i find there are the sliced bread, rotisserie chicken, sicilian olives, smoked salmon, feta, olive garden salad dressing, famous daves bbq sauce, a1 sauce, yogurt, romaine salad 5 packs... the list goes on..it is so much affordable to buy at costco in the long run! I also have purchased items such as a tent for camping, led can lights for home renovation, a computer printer, waterpik for teeth etc Both which were cheaper or better then competing stores. I love love love the clothing socks and shoes section. Ive gotten adidas shoes and tights. Dkny and puma socks. And super cute jackets! Costco also has a wine advent calendar now! And a beer one for those who love wine and beer! Super worth it. Not to mention the alcohol is a great price at costco! They have tons of options. Some other bonuses - The photo department is awesome you upload photos online and pay/pick them up in store, super affordable! Gas is cheap at costco always filling up there! I've never really been a Costco fan, but I just happen to be marrying their #1 customer. We even have costco auto insurance! In fact, if it was up to my fiance we'd probably be getting married in Costco. He did ask a few times if we could register with them and I just pretended not to hear him. But after a recent trip to Costco I finally see the appeal.... Costco really is one-stop showing at incredible prices! They have it all from the wii (i kind of want one...am i too old?) to great deals on Christmas decorations to a frozen food section that will keep me from having to cook. If you're not already a member, than I ask you- how do you call yourself an American? Jk. There are few things in life whose very existence gives me some hope for humanity. These things make me feel secure when I shop there, and helps me know that horrible corporations haven't fully taken over our souls yet. One of such things is Costco. The others are Trader Joe's and Netflix.. Costco is not an evil corporation. They give good wages to their employees as well as benefits, is not profit driven to the point of starting every morning with a "let's rip off the customers" mantra (rumored to occur in Walmart and Target, so the devil tells me), and they have the best customer service ever. With the exception of laptops and cameras, most everything can be returned.. whenever and no questions asked. Awesome. Things I LOVE at Costco: 1. Toilet Paper. Good price and you don't have to restock forever. 2. Handsoap with refills. Again, you don't have to restock for like, ever. 3. Giant garbage bags. I think I'm still using mine from like five years ago. 4. Alcohol. If you're throwing a big party and you need giant cases of liquor for a good price, it's all about Costco. 5. Bread. They have great bread here, including einstein's bagels and sourdough bread from San Fran. 6. Individually packaged chicken, organic and otherwise. 7. Egg starts! 99% egg whites, make yourself a health omelet every morning! 8. Beautiful 2 dozen roses for like 13 bucks!! The list is endless, so I'll stop there. Things to avoid. 1. Books. I don't think their books are very cheap. It's always cheaper than the list price, but if you have coupons at bookstores, go that route. Besides, no one should be buying books, go to your public library!! 2. Fruits and veggies. Their fruits and veggies are little on the expensive side, in my opinion. This is the only thing I am not happy about at Costco. If you have a local mexican fruit market, get your fruits there for half the price. Oh, and don't forget.. after walking around that big warehouse all day, you need to replenish yourself by stopping by the food court on your way out and getting yourself a delicious pizza of pizza and a giant churro. They are GOOD and will cost you about 3 bucks total. read more

I had a horrible experience with the Costco Tire center at this location. I have a 2019 Honda Civic EX with roughly 16,000 miles on it. I went to Costco for a simple tire rotation. When the service was complete, I drove out of the parking lot and instantly my "TPMS" system indicated that my tire(s) were low on air pressure. I pulled to the nearest gas station, checked the pressure, and everything was fine. Knowing a little bit about my car, I performed a TPMS calibration from my car's infotainment console. The following day, the warning indicator came on again. I called Costco and requested that they take a look at it and/or provide me information on what might be causing this. When I arrived back at the Costco Tire center, I was immediately met with a very rude and disrespectful employee, who later identified himself as a manager, named Mark. He was instantly defensive. At no point did I accuse them or even imply that they had done something wrong to cause this warning light. I was simply asking for them to check the tires and provide any information on what the problem may be and how it might be corrected. Mark's first response was "We did not do anything that could cause this. I don't know what you expect us to do about it." He continued to state that I was being unreasonable by thinking that they had anything to do with that problem. He simply said, and I quote, "Sometimes things just happen." At that point I was getting agitated and asked him to think logically. I was not complaining that a service engine light or something unrelated occurred. This was a specific tire-related warning light that was never on before that day and came on minutes after having a tire service performed by them. He continued be saying that he's has no interest in "arguing" with me, tried to tell me that he could "prove" that they did nothing wrong to my car, and that he thinks that I am being "ridiculous" by assuming that there's any correlation between the warning light and the service I had done minutes before that warning light came on. For a final time, I told him that I am NOT accusing them of doing something wrong or damaging my car in any way. I was simply asking for information about what the problem could be and how it might be corrected. Perhaps he could have told me that the sudden warm weather that day may have affected the pressure in my tire, or maybe I needed to drive the car a little longer or faster for the re-calibration to work. Instead, it seemed that his only instinct was to be extremely rude and defensive, repeatedly responding to accusations of wrongdoing that I never made. I can only assume that this service center, or employee, Mark, is used to being accused by customers for vehicle problems that they did not cause. I understand that such accusations may be common for any automotive service center, however I feel this situation was needlessly escalated because of his behavior and lack of concern for the customer. Finally, I asked for his general manager's contact information, and what he gave me turned out to be a card with just the main phone number for that Costco location, and he wrote his own name, not his genernalmanager's, on it. In the end, it all could have been avoided as a 2nd re-calibration of the TPMS has seemingly solved the issue. If Mark at any point had any customer service skills, I assume he may have recommended that in the first place rather than treat a repeat customer with such disrespect. This man desperately needs to be retrained in dealing with customers or to work strictly in the garage from now on. read more

Today, I had to make an impromptu trip to Costco, somehow I blew through my last 12 boxes of Kleenex like nobodys business (no pun intended) so off I went. This time I stuck to the 2 items I went to buy, but I can't say I wasn't tempted by a lot of other stuff I saw. The only real negative about this place is the long lines. They're horrendous no matter when you go. Then there's the exit line, we all play along, but really we both know you're not reading the receipt you're just swiping it with your Sharpie regardless of what's in my cart. Today, while I waited in line, the coffin display caught my eye. What was really odd was one of the noted features - adjustable beds. If you're dead isn't the firmness of you mattress the least of your worries? Bottom line: Costco is sooo worth the membership fee, don't just limit yourself to the store, take advantage of the member discounts such as: *Homeowners and car insurance - saved me some serious cash *Check re-printing, my dad was pretty steamed he paid 3x as much for the same amount of checks *Travel, the rental car price half as much as I saw on Kayak *Auto loans - discounts through Capital One TIP: If you have pets they sell bags of food and cat litter in obscenely large sizes. This place is awesome. I came here to get my tires changed and got it done in 1.5 hours. I had no idea what type of tires my car needed. But they were able to figure everything out for me with just the model and year of my car. NICE. The prices were also very good and reasonable. Unfortunately, they didnt really have much of a selection for my tire type. They only had one option and I needed my tires changed ASAP so I was basically stuck with getting what they had. Still, I was very happy they were able to squeeze me in at such short notice. During the wait, I went inside the Costco warehouse to do some shopping. If your membership has expired, they are able to renew it at the tire sales center. Super easy! read more

I love going to Costco because I can get all of the things we use often in a large bulk. Buying somethings twice a year is a great feeling and time saving. If you like crowds go on the weekend. But there are a lot to sample on the weekend. So it all depends on what you like better. I try to go on weekdays to avoid crowds and lines. The staff aren't always the best or as helpful. read more

A few days ago, I was harassed and belittled by the self checkout staff member named Veronica when I pulled an her to the side as the screen said that an employee will be with you shortly. The machine hadn't processed what I had scanned, and she continued to insist with an ensuing aggression that I didn't scan my items, when in fact I did. This is a grocery store, and people are here to feed themselves and their families. There is no need for any customer to have to put up with condescending attitudes and employees raising their voice for any purpose. I did not treat her with any degree of disrespect whatsoever, and I will not tolerate that from Costco, or any person for that matter. She chose to work here, and I shouldn't have to bear the brunt of her own burden. So, I proceeded to tell that person that I will not put up with that in a firm, direct tone. As I walked away and waited for the manager to arrive, Veronica felt it necessary to point her finger at me and gossip about me to one of her cohorts. I told the manager Luna about my experience, and he was quite helpful. I told him that I would be satisfied as a customer if I received some form of compensation. So he was kind enough to give me a slice of pizza and a hot dog. Though quite small, this gesture is what is allowing me to even so graciously consider giving this branch a 2 star review. Fast forward a few days to today. I go back and I go to go grocery shopping again and went to pay at the cashier to deliberately avoid Veronica in hopes that I might have a more positive experience. Again, I was spoken to in a demeaning tone and the cashier (whose name i did not happen to catch) shouted aggressively, asking 'Is this food yours?' This is an incredibly toxic environment for any person with a single shred of dignity. You know, the pandemic rocked the workforce and companies have become so desperate that they resort to hiring people who will work for less and could care less about the people in their immediate environment. So, this time I went to the membership desk and waited for another manager, as Luna was not working today. A manager named Charles approached me. He was not polite by any stretch of the imagination. So, I told him about both of these experiences as another employee, who was also giving me an awkward eye, was sitting in on this conversation for a reason that I do not know. He really just treated me as some idiot asking for free food, without investigating the situation or giving regard to my experience as a customer in any way whatsoever. He contemptuously replied 'Compensation? You will not be compensated because you come in here every day asking for free stuff'. I am harassed every time I come to this location and I have given Costco thousands of my hard earned dollars, so I will not settle for anything else but what I deserve, ESPECIALLY with an executive membership. I'm not going to allow this person to exaggerate the details of the story about which he knows absolutely nothing. And the constancy of poor service upon which this establishment is upheld is not grounds to automatically negate the possibility of compensation when the desire for compensation is reasonable and warranted. I will not be posed as some sort of unruly customer that is constantly trying to exploit the vulnerabilities of the customer service industry with these accusations. And that is because I know my worth as a customer. See, I have been a customer of Costco for close to 12 years. I love the atmosphere that is created here. People are generally very helpful and friendly. And that is what has caused me to be such a loyal customer for so long. So that is fair enough to assume that after all of the thousands of dollars I have given them that I deserve some form of payment to maintain a degree of mutual respect. These people are some of the most miserable, self-absorbed and aggressive employees that I have ever encountered at any Costco Branch, or at any place in corporate America for that matter. So I am taking my business to a grocery store where people don't purge their own repressed emotions onto me because they cannot take the drudgery of their job that they hate. I get it; working at Costco must be a very soul draining experience. But is that my problem in any way whatsoever? Absolutely not. I don't owe you my patronage. read more

Disclaimer: I've been to Costco's in four other states and others in IL. With that said, maybe I would like this one more if it was the only one I had ever been to. I'll split this review up by category to hit the most important points. Parking: Meh. It's really spread out and almost awkward. Costco parking lots are a pain to begin with when they're normally laid out (straight rows), but this one takes it to another level. If I never had to encounter it again, I wouldn't mind. Size: Small. Easily the smallest Costco I've ever been to. This makes it a nightmare to whiz through the store because you're constantly bumping into other people and carts and trying to utilize every inch of real estate to get two carts side-by-side in an any given aisle so you can pass. Store Layout: Illogical. The worst offense was putting "DAIRY" in what is typically the Produce freezer at other locations, but it wasn't -all- dairy. I spent a good 10 minutes zig-zagging through all other fridge/freezer sections looking for yogurt. Even cheese was found in three other locations beyond the Dairy freezer... go figure. Prices: More expensive than other locations in IL! I get it -- it's near the city, real estate is more expensive -- but, come on. Checkout: No self-checkout! Aaaaagh. That has grown to be my favorite feature at my local store. I understand that most people come to Costco once every blue moon to make a giant purchase, but I was just popping in to buy dog food and a couple other basics. Having to wait in line behind 20 people (all registers were equally-packed) just so I could check out my three items was a royal pain. The self-checkouts have been a big hit at my local store, and I see more and more people coming in just to pick up a bag of tortilla chips and some shampoo, so I'm not the only nut. ;) Bottom line: I'd rate this a 2/10 for Costco.. Giving 2 stars here only because I save 1's for things that really deserve it. read more

What a sorry excuse for a business. I visited today to pick up some necessities. Apparently, my membership expired on August 31. TODAY IS SEPTEMBER 10!! Also, I've been a member for 19 years! 19 YEARS!! Most of that time has been as an Executive Membership. There's a pandemic going on, and I had no way to renew the membership today ($250). Recently Nick helped me get glasses at the Clybourn Costco. He was personable, professional and very knowledgeable. I was only going to get one pair, Nick informed me a second pair was discounted. So, I decided to get another pair of glasses. I was going to pass on the transitions upgrade, but Nick informed me that a new version was out, so I went with the new version of transitions. His technical knowledge helped me pick out better pair on computer glasses then my current pair. Great job Nick! I will continue to buy my and my family's glasses and contacts at Costco. Costco - Wholesale Stores Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This is the last Costco that I visited, so I'm writing a hybrid review of this store and Costco.com. The Lincoln Park location is small, parking is often terrible and lines are usually long. I came here looking for appliances and I was told to go to Costco.com to browse the online selection. The good news is that the selection was larger than in store. The bad news is that they shouldn't be selling appliances if they don't know how to install them. I called customer service prior to ordering and was assured I wouldn't have any issues. Naturally, I had issues from the get go. I received a message at 5:15 about delivery the next day, but when I called back shortly thereafter, I was told that they close at 3:00pm and that it might take 48 hours for someone to get back to me. I also found out that the delivery people weren't the installers, so what I thought would be a 2-hour project turned into something close to 8-hours. That's right, a full day dealing with appliance installs. Of course, that would assume that the appliances actually were installed. My refrigerator was left in the middle of my kitchen because the installers refused to put the fridge in the "cubby" because of a piece of trim. They said that they see this all the time but that Costco doesn't allow them to remove it. I note that the installers and the delivery people said that everyone complains about Costco. Finally, when I called Costco customer service, I was on with them for over an hour while they gave me the run around. Among the things I was told is that I could return the fridge, but that they couldn't tell me how much money I'd get back because I bought an appliance package. They also suggested that I get the trim fixed and that they might pay me something after the fact. I'll be honest, I checked Abt and they were more expensive for the same package, but next time, I'm going with Abt. Their customer service is far superior. read more

Just leaving the store. Richie Rich (name on his badge) was our cashier and a complete a-hole. My mom used her card and my sister went to pay. Before she could insert her card. Rich curtly told her she couldn't use her credit card since it wasn't her membership. Long story short, we questioned him about his attitude and how he determined whose membership it was. He continued to be rude, cutting them off and stating that he would call the supervisor. He couldn't answer how he made a determination of which two people were on the card and why he kept refusing her use of a credit card, continuing to cut them off and eventually calling for a supervisor. He was condescending at best, making comments like "what don't you understand?" The supervisor who came over wasn't helpful and pretty dismissive (maybe more ambivalent) to the entire ordeal. Definitely reporting to corporate. read more

Came here for tires I had ordered online to be installed. After my experience, I will probably not recommend Costco tire center to others. I was quoted about one hour to an hour and a half. That occurred at 4:18pm. They said they would call when tires were finished. After that, I shopped around at Costco and bought products for my roommates. They were out of rotisserie chickens for about 30 min, so I waited. The cashier I had along with the person loading up the cart were both friendly. I came back to tire center at 5:55pm. I glanced at my car from outside, looking into the garage. No one was working on it. I came back into lobby of tire center and waited for about 25 additional minutes. When an attendant finally asked if I needed anything at 6:20, I asked about how soon my car would be ready. They said, oh it's ready! I was like, where was my phone call? How disorganized can you be? Finding parking on the weekends can suck, but I still love Costco. The hot dogs are also very tasty! The hardest thing about shopping at Costco is practicing self control and remembering that you will have to find room to store your 50 cans of pineapple, etc. P.S. They now serve gelato but I wasn't huge fan. The texture seems off. Stick with the pizza, hot dogs, and fro yo. read more

We go to this Costco once a week, now this location can honestly be a zoo on weekends, actually, let's be real here, it IS a zoo every weekend. That being said, the workers and the people who shop here have pretty good attitudes, regardless of how packed it is every weekend, hence the 3 stars. I also took away another star because I really don't like how they sell containers of baked goods that must be purchased at LEAST 2 boxes at a time. I just wanted to buy 1 box of danishes and didn't know until I got to checkout these these boxes can only be purchased 2 at a time. Like what? Why? Why in the world would you package them a certain way and then say that we can only purchase 2 at a time?? That sucks! I understand that these wholesale prices are supposed to be for wholesale quantities..then box them up bigger!! Or make the purchasing instructions way LARGER and CLEARER for the buyers! That just doesn't make any sense and that's the kinda stuff that makes me actually angry. Okay rant over. This location isn't my favorite, but it'll do for the city. read more

This place is a necessary evil. The parking lot is insane and I feel like I am some sort of crazy stalker as I follow people to their car, wait for them to load up their vehicle, push their cart of the edge of the curb (because why can anyone be bothered to push the cart to a proper cart corral??), make a phone call, smoke a cigarette and then FINALLY back out of the space. It doesn't really matter what time you get here because it is always busy. Large amounts of people will block the aisles waiting for food samples (it is like they haven't eaten in months they way they wait for a sample). The checkout lines are ALWAYS long. However, the staff does a great job of moving people through them pretty quickly. The food court also ALWAYS has a long line. However, you really can't beat the deals. $1.50 for a hot dog and a soda, sign me up! They recently took the brat option off the menu to make room for chili....what, ya no. I think this was a mistake but I guess at Costco people vote for what they carry with their dollars. There is usually a line to get out of the store as you have to wait for someone to put a line with a marker/highlighter on your receipt to ensure your goods are paid for. I'm not sure why this always takes so long, but today, I was grateful to hear a man yell, for people to pick a side, left or right and remind a few who are confused that there is no middle line. Overall, a great staff makes things a little bit better and this is the closest Costco to our house so we will be back...probably every week...you know because we have an executive membership. Pro-tip: Get the executive membership. If you don't buy enough to make the 2% rebate worth your while. They will refund you the difference between the memberships. read more
