Pretty much everyone is familiar with the Costco concept by now. Pay a $60 membership fee and you can shop the warehouse for jumbo sized deals. Some of the deals are good, some are awesome, some are just okay. Meat eaters sweat by the value of giant packages of meat. Bulk cleaning supplies are a bargain if you have room to store them. You can also get good deals on random pieces of clothing, shoes, socks, and underwear. I favor the giant cheese packs at pennies per pound. The seafood stuffed salmon is tasty. So are the packaged soups. The only reason this location gets 4 stars and not 5 is that they have no liquor store. At least no Costco-affiliated one. One of the best deals in Costco-dom is the giant Kirkland-branded Vodka and here you can only buy beer and wine. Just sad. read more

I love Costco. This is a busy location, like any other. Super friendly staff, which seems to be the norm in TN. Plan on everyone in line in front of you having a conversation with the check-out person, so this slows down the process a little. We were in the day before Thanksgiving and there were very few "sampler stations" operating (a little disappointing). There's a separated liquor store attached, but outside of the Costco (I guess this is due to state liquor laws?). Parking lot seems a little smaller than most other Costco locations, so you may have to spend a little time searching for a spot. read more

As a frequent Costco-er and Sams Go-er, I am always seeking good deals for home and for work. Costco is cleaner, hipper, and slightly more expensive overall. Costco is to Target, as Sams is to Walmart....you get the idea. Before you buy in bulk, I recommend you bulk up at the snack bar where you can feed your family of 11 for $15. Our only complaint about the snack bar is the limited drink options, and no Coke products at all...in the south! Crikey! Once inside be prepared for cart traffic and oblivious cart drivers. Costco frequently changes things up leading to bumper to bumper rubber necking the goods and such. Who needs an industrial size pack of citronella candles? Apparently everyone does, including you. Better grab those before they are gone forever. Remember, Costco also buys in bulk and once a deal is gone, it's gone. Insider info: Costco members get discounts on car rentals, travel, and other services that are better than you can find on AAA, etc. We are renting a Suburban for a week for a beach trip for $600. Enterprise was $200 more. If you prefer Target, join Costco. If you prefer Walmart, can I get a Dale yeah? I prefer Sam's personally because it keeps the products I need for work in stock. COSTCO! So glad this placed opened up right before I moved. I am an avid Costco shopper in Charlotte, NC. So, I am super excited to be writing another review for this establishment. The first thing that definitely spun my head around was that this Costco was backward! Everything was flipped from the usual Costco in my hometown. So, I had to actually think in mirrored terms when I walked in here. This place is absolutely huge! I think it was bigger than the one I am accustomed to in Charlotte as well. So, with a bigger Costco (and a higher sales tax as well), you get a ton of stuff! From the usual Costcos, dairy and food products, books, clothes. Other stuff that Costcos don't have...a liquor store. And that's definitely not a bad thing. The story goes. As usual. Costcos are somewhat alike, yet somewhat different. I can not believe the disrespectful, rude, punk kids working at Costco in Knoxville. I have never in my life been so humiliated and treated so poorly. Just because they are hiding behind masks and plexiglass should not give them the right to talk to adults 25+ years older than they are the way they did me today. The cashier refused to check me out because I am unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition, she called 2 managers over and the 3 of them gang up on me, make me late for picking up my kids, caused a huge scene, yelled at me threatening to cancel my membership...it was so ridiculous. Costco was one of the most trusted retailers we ever dealt with. Not so much anymore. They do have some in store issues now but the real problem is with delivery. I ordered an OLED TV on 8/14/2020. I got a notification on 8/16 that it had been shipped. I called the number to schedule a delivery date and time. Cannot do that. You must wait for a call. Got a call on 8/19 said it would be delivered on 8/22. Got a call on 8/21 said it would not be delivered until 8/26. Tried to do the tracking on line and it does not work. It said the pkg was in Atlanta after going to Orlando and Ocala. I called the folks that gave me the last delivery date and they said it was in Maryville about 20 mins from where I live. They cannot deliver until 6 days from now. Called the Costco Concierge number, gave him my concerns. He said he would check but when I tried to give him my order number he hung up. That was after waiting 20 mins to get to him. read more

It seems Member Services at the Knoxville store lied to me to convert my membership to auto renewal. If they weren't lying, then they do not know Costco policies. I renewed my membership in-store and was told that Costco REQUIRES a credit card on file for membership auto renewal. I said, no, I do not want auto renewal. I was told I must give them a card and I could come in later and have it removed from my account. I gave in because I had already been there too long thanks to incorrect information I received from another Member Services rep. I finished with the credit card part and asked if I can take the card off my account online. I was told no, I must come in to the store later to have it removed. I had zero confidence in this answer so the next day I went to costco.com and easily cancelled auto-renewal. I'm sure there are performance metrics around selling people on membership auto-renewal, but lying to do so would be wrong. And if it was a simple mistake, that's an issue, too. Either way, there's a problem with how this location is run. read more

This is without a doubt the worst Costco I have ever been in. We have been Costco members for years, we were members before it was Costco (Price Club)!. This location is so bad, we are considering dropping our membership. The last straw was our last visit. We purchased a TV and some food items We get to the checker and right away he says, "oh, you are an executive member". I said, no, we used to be , not anymore. Right away he goes into his sales pitch for their executive membership. I told him AGAIN, were are not interested, we were executive members before, but we don't shop at Costco that much anymore, and we live just over 70 miles from this store and don't intend on shopping here much at all. This did not stop him or other staff from jumping in and pressuring us. We felt like we were on a used car lot. I should not have to tell this idiot staff more that once that we are not interested!. I should have even explained why we were not interested, I should only have to say no ONCE!. I finally had to tell these morons to stop or I would leave all this shit here for them to put away. I don't know what incentive these idiots get for getting people to sign up for executive memberships but it must be great. This is no way to do business, it really sours you on wanting to shop there. We will most likely never go back because of these horrible employees. Also, many of the meats were expiring the next day. I have been a member since 1984 and lived in four states as a Costco member. The model, the policies, the products, the staff...heck, even the parking is done right! Gas is often the best price in town for premium and moderately good value for regular. The cost of the extended warranty for the TV and other electronics is very low and has been honored without any question when 4 or 5 years after purchase there is an issue. LOVE that! We thought when we became empty nesters that Costco might not be worth it for us. Then we moved 70 minutes from one. The value was still there and we LOVE Costco! read more

Google reviews for this location are suspiciously kind, so kind I'd say most of them are bought and paid for. The store has mostly good products but crap service. For a store requiring memberships, I'm not sure how they stay in business. To start with the products. Check fresh fruit and vegetables carefully and all expiration dates on perishables, moldy fruit and rotten potatoes are not uncommon. Do not come here expecting to consistently buy high quality fruit and vegetables. The meats are of good quality but the dates always need to be carefully checked. Electronics vary between the effective MSRP, a standardized price or "sale" price every store has, to overpriced. Actual deals are rare but prices are usually competitive. That's the way with most Costco goods to be honest. Now the staff. Stockers and butchers are often busy and have no interest in providing help. Given how few there are this is probably necessary. Tire center staff are nice enough but not in a great hurry. Most of the pharmacy staff struggles to work the registers, old pieces of junk that have yellowed with age. Anything beyond the simplest task requires a manager's key which can take several minutes to acquire. Once the magic key arrives there's no guarantee any of the staff on hand will be able to operate the register and yet another person will be summoned. Financial savings can be had using the Costco pharmacy but don't expect the process to be pain free. Register staff and supervisors are often rude and condescending to members. It's to the point where I know people who have quit shopping here as a result. I've had enough bad interactions with certain staff that I recognize them and will intentionally not get in the lines they are working. Suspiciously the nicer employees always seem busier. The pushier front employees are often working the "self-checkout area". Working in this case means standing around telling people how to work self-checkouts(a system that is over twenty years old in the states), standing in the way, trying to shove people towards self-checkout or scanning items. They hate to scan items but are more than willing to condescendingly lecture people on the need to place items on the scales. On another note, the Costco self-checkout system is very poorly designed. In this store the registers are arranged in two lines of three. Each register requires all goods either be weighed on a scale or over ridden by an employ. Moving around in the self-checkout is awkward and is oddly reminiscent of merging into busy traffic from the road's shoulder. Made even more awkward thanks to the presence of the staff standing in the way. By contrast the competing club down the road doesn't require the use of scales and has the registers arranged like the pumps at a gas station. Each self-checkout has a hand scanner so things don't even need to be lifted from the buggy. A much better system. Don't read the five star reviews and expect a five star experience, the products are pretty solid but the staff you'll interact with the most are terrible. read more

For the most part we love Costco. All the employees are helpful, if not crazy busy, and the product choices are great. Unfortunately, while the Costco's in California are full to the brim with mostly organic produce, frozen food and other organic products, the one in Knoxville seems to have never heard of the value in eating organic -they don't carry any. VERY disappointing. We're forced to shop elsewhere for our fruits and veges, as well as many of the other organic products we enjoy that were available in the California stores. Knoxville Costco managers need to get a clue and get on board with the other stores and start helping to make the people in this state healthy, by offering quality, organic products and produce. This is for the food court. This young man stood behind the "whole pizza pick up" window and as soon as I walked up to it, he walked away. I thought, okay maybe he's just busy doing something else. But there are no other customers around and I wait and watch him as he is the only person working behind the counter and I'm standing in front of the window. Finally, I move over to the "kiosk pick up" sign where he has been fidgeting with pizza boxes. I tell him I'm picking up a whole pizza that was called over the phone. Fast forward - he gives me my pizza. He didn't ask for my receipt or anything. Then I ask if I can have red pepper and cheese. It's not until I get home I realize he only gave me cheese. This is one of my favorite stores in Knoxville! I used to be a member of Sam's Club but they aren't on the same level as Costco. I go to Cost o at least 2x a month and no matter what time of the day I go, everyone is always friendly and will go out of their way to help you. This is a clear sign that the employees are treated well and enjoy their jobs. Nowadays, most stores have a store brand that is cheaper than the name and boasts that the quality is the same. Ive come to find out that tuts not true. However, Costco's Kirkland brand is outstanding. Their signature Kirkland brand is the best store brand I've come across. I know that Knoxville is small but I do hope that they open up another location that is more centralized so that others will be more willing to shop there. read more

While I do like ALL costco's... this one loses a star for not carrying Women's and Men's X-Smalls in clothing, and for a slow transition to healthy food. The people who work the floor, folding, know it and they say they have a few complaints. Apparently, X-Small is not in the Tennessee demographic. Just a few wouldn't hurt! I'm here! The food options here are starting to switch over to organic and healthy more often, which is great, because when I first moved here, they didn't even have tofu. I came from the Maryland and California Costco's where the big packs of tofu filled my fridge. They made a switch to promoting more healthy food about a year ago, and I think they are realizing this area is catching up. The morning star vegan sausages (the best meaties of non meaties, I even fool my father-in-law with them!) still disappear from the shelves in place of the bacon wrapped beef whiskey things every now and again. The samples have been helping shoppers try a lot more organic and vegetarian food for the region then you would normally get. And for those on a budget, the produce prices here can not be beat in comparison to our local groceries. If you stayed in the produce department, you could walk out with a full, big, costco cart for $100. We've noticed seniors here more on the first few days after the first of the month, and a lot of newer people to Costco examining the prices closely. read more
