I have been a member of Costco since I was 18 years old. The Long Beach and Pasadena locations are 5 stars. The Albuquerque location is 5 stars. I was excited when I took a job in Madison I was excited to find out there were two locations. But I soon found out this city had a minimum markup law meaning there were hardly any deals. For example, at Costcos in California, New Mexico, etc. I was getting gas at 20 cents less a gallon than service stations. Here its the same price. Also the food courts here suck. No huge pretzels, no mixed frozen yogurt and the chicken bakes are half the size. Also I am used to the whole Midwestern politeness thing. Apparently these Costcos went out of there way to hire the locals with the worst attitudes ever and males and females who wear clothing 2-4 sizes too small for them. Nothing worse than seeing fat rolls hanging over belts. Obviously I now know why my take out pizza had missing cheese. This place sucks. read more

**THIS REVIE IS FOR THE VISION CENTER** This was a very unprofessional business. I was very frustrated by their incompetence, inability to reach me with pertinent information, and lack of urgency in a very time sensitive matter. I called them and left multiple messages to try to schedule a simple eye checkup appointment and did not receive a call back. Finally I reached them a week and a half later when I called for the 5th or 6th time. My concern was that my insurance was due to expire at the end of the week and I explained to them that I needed to schedule my appointment ASAP and to make sure my insurance was accepted in their office. They didn't try moving anything around, just booked the next available appointment time (days away) for the day before my insurance expired. When I showed up they told me that I had not vision coverage. I got on the phone (I was also on my lunch break and had very limited time) to try to figure it out. After a few minutes they said my appointment window was up and that they couldn't fit me in anymore, basically so sorry but you can leave and good luck to you. They didn't try to help me much, or at least if they did I certainly didn't know or feel it. Lucky for me I stopped at a random Vision Works store on the way where they were able to schedule an appointment, verify my coverage, release a hold the Costco staff somehow put on my coverage (how they did that if they couldn't even find my insurance I don't even know) and prep me for glasses so I can get it all done in time for my deadline...how Costco managed to fail at communicating with me prior to the appointment, at helping me more while I was there, at caring more about me the way I'd want my doctor to care, at performing proper insurance checks and properly reading their computer, and at offering solutions...overall very unprofessional and incompetent. I can't imagine trusting them with my eyes!! read more

Our hotel was down the street and we needed some water, fresh fruit and vegetables for our trip and we have a Costco membership. Parked with no problem. The layout was exactly the same as our normal Costco which made it easy to find things. Everything was fresh. We bought a 15 bottle pack of smart water, vegetable tray and one package of fruit. Check-out was relatively quick and we were out the door. No bagging at Costco. Low Costco prices. read more

The one star is in reference to the pharmacy only. I was told twice that when a prescription was ready we would get a call. No one called, so I called and they said it was ready. Packed up all the kids and went to Costco to find out they had to order more medication and that it would be ready by end of week. They said I should sign up for text message to make it easy, so I did. Now it has been over a week, no call, no text message. I will call again today but the communication really could improve. I am grading this on my experience for getting a Costco card. We wanted to get the gold card and stated that right from the start. I know they probably get a percentage for upgrading BUT she went on and on and on. We started we had a appointment and still was doing the sales pitch. Than a second person comes and does exactly the same and than some. At this point we were ready to walk out. After that they expect you to smile for your picture. I bought this AC to help my old central air unit keep up with the high summer temperatures. The instructions were a bit opaque, but they got the job done. This AC is super quite on low mode, and not too loud even on its highest setting. The output has a setting that constantly changes the airflow, which distributes the cold air all around the room. The LCD on the remote is a nice touch, but the settings on the AC itself are non-existent (only a power button). Not a huge deal, but don't lose the remote! This AC lacks any type of persistent timer settings. There is no way to program the unit to turn on/off everyday at a certain time. You have to manually set the ON time each day, and then later set the OFF time. IMO this is a huge oversight for any AC unit because it make energy efficient scheduling difficult. read more

I would give this Costco a better rating if they had not treated my mom like a criminal when she handed over my card because she forgot she needed to get her own upgraded card. The woman at the register acted as if my mom had committed a capital crime, when in fact, my mom is getting older and more forgetful. At customer service when it turned out my mom is in fact on the account and she had just neglected to get her own card as instructed a couple months earlier. An apology or at least losing the attitude would have been a nice treat from the cashier, but apparently that was too much to ask. read more

5 stars as a big box store, and 5 stars as a restaurant, 5 stars as a liquor store. as a store Costco does a great job of delivering perishables, clothing, and tech at affordable prices-- traditionally this comes in bulk but thats not always the case. I've bought ipad accessories, a camera, printer ink, etc here, as well as tools and kitchen appliances, all at great savings. the clothing can leave a bit to be desired if you're not a bigger human as most things seem a bit more "loose fit", but the socks and underwear selection aint bad. food is a strong suit here. great bulk food-- our work office is stuffed full of different dried fruit and crackers from costco for snacks. their pizza is unbeatable. pasta and hummus are great buys. the food court is the second best part of Costco. buck fifty hot dogs? with a free drink? yes please. enough froyo to make you sick for $1.35? amazing. not good for you, but good for your wallet for sure. lastly, their liquor selection is amazing. whether its a big bottle of bourbon/rum/vodka, or their fantastic selection of budget and upscale wines, thats one of the most common reasons I head there. Overall, a great spot that kills the competition. ps have to put a shout out to their kirkland-brand dog food as well. Its all my dog eats! not that he has a choice. but honestly, according to dog food review websites (yes those actually exist) its actually very high quality, especially for the price. read more

I love Costco! It has really helped me save money when shopping for my big family. The employees give excellent customer service and they all seem so happy. This review is for the pharmacy only.You do not need to be a member to use the pharmacy. I am a self paying user of generic Plavix...Cost for a 90 day supply is around is about $25. Contrast this to $85 at Walmart,and $200+ at Hy-Vee Target and Shopko. Price difference is unbelievable!! Begs the question of what price are health insurance carriers forced to pay!?? No wonder premiums are high should they be charged the 200-300 prices. It does pay to shop for prices.. read more

I love Costco! This particular one is great because it's never very crowded (are people in Madison not aware of the awesome-ness that is Costco?!). The staff is very friendly and helpful, and there are always lots of samples! I like to go at lunchtime on weekends to get a free "meal". FYI you do need a membership to shop here, so go with someone who has a membership to see if you think it's worth getting. Memberships start at $55/yr. read more

I love this place, have never had a bad experience. Everyone that works there is friendly and helpful. I have dealt with the Customer Service desk a couple of times and they are nothing but professional and happy to help you. The store is clean and well stocked. For parties and large gatherings it is great for buying large sizes of everything you need. At Christmas I stocked up on baking needs to make cookies. The fruit is also really good. I was leery to buy it at first, but their strawberries are the best! Most things are a deal. Definitely worth checking out. read more

This is specifically reference the tire center: I have learned my lesson. I hope that you can learn from someone else's. This department would be a joke if it wasn't so screwed up and if their screw-ups wouldn't impact customers. I bought a set of tires there and it took SIX (6) trips, and extended standing in line to get the job completed. 1. Three weeks to get an appointment to get them mounted. Told to plan for 1 1/2 hours. (Longer than other tire stores, but ok) 2. Three weeks later showed up, told that it would take at least 2 hours, maybe longer, leave the car and they'll call me when it's done! I was by myself and couldn't leave it, and couldn't wait several hours so I discussed bringing it back the next morning. 3. Brought back the next morning, told we'll get to it as soon as we can. 4. Went back late afternoon, nothing had been done. Complained, and was told: "Your appointment was yesterday. Today, you are a 'walk-in' without an appointment, so we'll get to it if we can." !!! I was NOT pleased and made it clear. I went home and they called me at closing time, told me the car was ready but it was too late to pick it up unless I could get there in 5 minutes, so pick it up in the morning (!) 5. Went back next morning, after 10am because that is when they open .... one of the tires was flat! I was really upset but one of the guys checked it out, came back, told me that it was fine, that it just needed air and he had aired it up. I asked him "So you just forgot to put air in it last night? That's all? Just forgot????" I was told "It's not leaking, I added air and it's fine. just take it." I naively did. This morning, the next day, my car is sitting in my driveway with a flat tire, and I need to do something about it because I can't even drive it back to Costco now to get it fixed until I either find some air, or change the tire with the spare myself. And I STILL have to take it back to Costco to get it fixed. Note: EVERY time I have gone there, I have had to wait in a LONG line, with nobody at the desk for extended periods, while the one guy there goes out back to check things. It's ALWAYS a long wait, even just to talk with a desk person, and if it's that surly, resentful twerp with the ear studs, things take even longer. And in each and every line, the rest of the customers with me are irritated and pissed as well. What a screwed up department. I've learned my lesson. 6. Trip 6 update: Stood in line for 15 minutes, told it would take 45 minutes. Wandered the store for 15 minutes then got back in line, having learned. In line for 35 minutes! Guy in front of me was so disgusted he took a refund rather than keep dealing with them. Got to the front of the line, ... they were balancing the tire and it would be done shortly. Another 15 minutes of waiting and finally got my car back. Told the "service pack" was leaking, but now replaced. Looks ok for now, we'll see. But no way was the experience worth it. No way were the hours it took worth it. read more

The word is out about Costco now, and this place is jam packed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. If you're going to go, try to hit it Monday through Thursday. Recently they have had long lines, which can be frustrating. Most of the time though it's because of the customers not having their membership card out and not having their payment ready. Otherwise, this wouldn't be an issue. That said, I love Costco. Great quality products and great customer service. I would live there if it was socially acceptable. read more

My wife and I are pretty loyal to the Sun Prairie location because it was much closer to us before. The west side location has similar products, but some noticeable differences. My wife can find langostino lobster here and Lindeman's Framboise. They seem to have more beer selections it seems. It's disappointing that we haven't been able to find the breakfast quiches that we normally get, in either location. The only thing with Costco is if you love a product, you should try and stock up on it because you'll never know when they'll get rid of it and it never returns. read more

This a a nice Costco. I went in for a quick lunch. A buck 50 for a hot dog and soda....then 75 cents for some chips. The service was quick and friendly. One person took my order and another made the hotdog and had it ready immediatly. read more

Costco appears to have a significant number of items it always stocks-- particularly its own Kirkland brand. It also has a rotating inventory. At this time it has really expanded its inventory of furniture. Other times of the year it has truly seasonal items (e.g., Christmas, Summer). My only complaint is the checkout lines can get rather long at times. read more

Although I love Costco, I think the sun prairie location was designed much better. The Middleton Costco gas station is a few blocks away and the layout of the store is a bit awkward. Other than that, jalapeno artichoke dip. Need I say more? read more

Four sets of tires purchased from this Costco, but no more. Had a flat and tried to get an appointment...eight days! Left vehicle this morning for a drop-in, and seven hours later they still haven't gotten to it. A tire service center should have appointments for new and current customers. Costco's lack of customer service is not acceptable, nor is an eight-day wait to fix a flat tire. I got it, you're busy...so am I. Would not recommend using Costco's tire service. read more

This is a solid Costco. Well-stocked. Fast cashiers. Occasionally it's so busy, there's no one to unload the cart at checkout. Saturdays and Sundays are wicked crowded, be prepared to wait in lines 5-6 carts deep. The prices are okay, although when compared to a regular supermarket it's not always cheaper -- and then you end up with 3 lbs of lemons rather than just the one lemon you actually need. Still, it's an efficient way to stock up. Like all Costcos, there's usually only one name brand item and then the Costco brand item for any given product type. Not much selection, but bulk quantity and generally bulk prices. read more

Warehouse shopping, gotta love it. While prices are great, selection is not always the best. Many items are 'one time only' and you'll never be able to see them again. They often have high end brand name clothing like Lucky, Tommy, and Calvin Klein, but with no fitting rooms it's always a gamble to buy because at least for me, it's a 50/50 shot I'll be returning something. It's kind of mystery everything I go there because I'm not sure what will end up in my cart. My most common best buys? Organic milk, eggs, chicken breasts, cereal, and bottled water....best prices in town on these items! Also, who needs a gym membership when it takes you 10 trips to the car to unload it all? read more

Food is OK, but check out cashier attitude was terrible. He forcefully and loudly asked us to push the cart to to cashier's side with my small kid sitting on it while we were checking out and facing him on the customer's side. Did not know the logic, never been to other Costco. Not sure if it is Costco's general policy to discourage family with small kids to shop there. DO NOT get your tires change from this place. AVOID this place if you care about your wheels . They damaged 3 out of 4 of my rims and they are NOT owning up to the damages. I had the night supervisor inspect the wheels before paying and leaving the warehouse, noting the damaged on the receipt and they are not doing nothing. The issue have escalated to corporate and to small claims. read more

Have been a fan of Costco until yesterday when we had trouble in the optical department. My husband had ordered glasses from them and the day he picked them up he immediately said he was seeing double, however he was told his eyes just needed to adjust to the new lenses so we left with them. At that time we were told we could return them for a full refund if they didn't work. Well the double vision when reading never did adjust so we returned with them. Julie, the optical department salesperson told us "if we wanted our money back, Costco optical department would never want to do business with us again." Perhaps Julie forgot we are the customer and what would make her think we would want to buy from them again. Also, seemed to go against Costco policy it that you can return just about anything to the store and they will take it back. Left us feeling very negative about the optical department and it's staff. read more

I usually love Costco until my last visit, there customer service was very poor, as poor as Africans, in particular, Jerry, the man who helped me (not actually) was very rude to me, he could have handled this situation a lot better, the situation was that I couldn't buy anything from Costco if I wasn't over the age of 18, ridiculous right? I called my sister to come in who was 18 and she took time out of her day to do this for me, she came in and we checked out in a different line, Everything was going well until Jerry came in and told the guy checking us out that I'm not old enough, well Jerry haven't you ever heard the saying mind your own business? I told Jerry that my sister is 18, Jerry replied, so what, is her name on the Costco card? I said no, he said then you can't buy anything, I was very angry because we went all the way to Costco for that to happen, take this L Costco, and take this L Jerry!!!!! read more

This review is on the tire center at the Middleton location. The service I received was the worst I have ever had. I ordered my tires online on 11/22/16. The tires were shipped on 11/23/16 and I received notice my tires were in on 11/29/16. I went there on December 2 to get them put on and they notified me that they could only find 3 of the 4. I took it upon myself to track my tires and found all 4 tires shipped out of IL but only 3 made it to WI. Later that day I received another email stating that all my tires were in so I went back thinking there was a mix up on the tracking and yet only 3 of the 4 were at Costco. I asked the person helping me what the policy was when all the tires a person orders does not come in and I was told that they just wait for them to come in on another shipment. I ended up having to put a trace on that fourth tire with Fed Ex to see if they could find it and they could not. It is now 12/8/16, I called Costco and after presenting them with all the information they still didn't offer to help at all. They just wanted to take down the information I had gathered for them but I demanded they find me a fourth tire. They did get me a fourth tire but by that time my vehicle was getting other repairs done on it and I couldn't get to the tire center until Sat 12/10/16. I was told they open at 9:30 yet I get there at 9:30 and there is a very long line for the tire center. I wait for an hour in line to be told I could leave my vehicle and they should have it done sometime Sunday morning. (Note, there was a major snow storm coming in that Saturday evening). Before I started all this with Costco, I had called around to get prices and I used to get my tires at Discount Tire in Middleton and they were around the same price as Costco but I went with Costco because I wanted to give them a chance. In hind sight, I should've went with Discount Tire. Way better service for near the same price. Actually tires were cheaper at Discount Tire than Costco. Costco was cheaper with the mounting and tire disposal fee. Very bad customer service. I would think they would have a better system than they have. They are not new to this line of work. Wait times are horrible. Customer service is horrible. If I could give a negative star I would. read more
