Similar to another reviewer's experience with this Target and coupon usage, it seems the new cashiers are not competent in understanding expiration dates and the usage of only "one coupon per purchase". The telecom system does not function well, and the managers are equally inadequate in understanding what is indeed proper customer service. When requesting to speak to a manager, the person behind the customer service desk claims "I am a manager", only to be told that her manager was the one that provided the wrong information and poor customer service by declining a coupon even though the expiration date clearly indicates today (4/15/19), which means the coupon is still valid until end of business day. However, the staff here does not seem to understand that and that is quite disappointing. Save yourself the trouble of going to this Target and just shop somewhere else. In fact, stop by the west side Target instead, as they will indeed accept coupons that this place supposedly declined. read more

Hilldale Target is very convenient. It's near a bunch of really neat restaurants and stores. I oftentimes stop by Target after grabbing brunch at one of the local venues around the area on the weekends. I am a fan of their selection of snacks and dollar section! read more

My family and I are from out of state, but I think everyone can agree paid employees should at least not be inconsiderate/rude to customers. I shop at this Target at least once per week, often more; and almost EVERY time, no matter what day of the week, a stocker has been, at a minimum, inconsiderate to me. It's overall a nice store, but it is so hard to continue to say, "Excuse me," etc. when they don't reply/say anything and act like I'm in THEIR way. My review would be a hybrid of Steve M. & Sarah. I wonder how it will impact Sentry and don't be fooled Target is the lesser evil of Wal-Mart but tries to brand itself as a Department store (e.g. JCP/Macy's/Dillards). Trust me we argued about this in MBA UW Madison classes and trust me I left the conversation with, "Target can say what it wants and try to be high-class but it sells food. To that end, it's not in the Department store class of Macy's nor Dillard's. I abhor they don't stay open 24hours, but *insert shrug* that's Target~ lol Service is generally good. Only a couple of times have I ran across the rude worker and guess what - she was a 2nd tier manager. My thought: you shouldn't be a leader. I shop at Target over Wal-Mart and I'm glad they finally got off their high horses to PRICE-MATCH any competitor ad. The 5% off with a Target card helps reduce the impact of tax. Target generally is a silly sort of store -- they have a poor selection of way too wide a range of things. If a person needs socks and wine and laundry detergent and index cards all in the same trip, I guess Target is the place -- but the socks are going to be pretty low end, the wine isn't going to be very tasty, they don't stock normal products such as Woolite (though they do have every single scent of some dumb new brand no one has ever heard of) and the index cards, like all the little Target branded stuff, are made in China. This location adds to this misery the facts that (A) it is way too big to find anything in, and (B) the employees can't find anything in it either; I came in for a Covid test kit, and the aisle staff couldn't find them, and the pharmacist kind of laughed and said that they move stuff around so much he had no clue where they might be. read more

Sadly, this is not my favorite Target. It is a very nice Target, located in Hilldale and with fancy escalators and a parking garage. It reminds me a lot of the Target's in Chicago. It's not my favorite Target because it's so crowded, and that's not really the store's fault. I'm just easily overwhelmed. When there are so many college students here, they tend to dillydally and it makes it hard to navigate the store. I always enjoy shopping the clearance sections at Target, and I'm sure because of the number of people who come to this one, there isn't always much on clearance. I love Target, and this location is a particularly fine specimen. The staff is friendly and I have never had a bad experience with an employee here. The layout and decor are modern, bright, and inviting. The store us not dirty and it is usually well organized and neat. They always have a large selection of products in-stock and I can almost always (98% of the time) find what I came for. I definitely recommend this Target location. This Target is definitely aimed at the student/new-condo-dwelling demographic. Maybe it's just the different setup of the store, but it seems like there are more juniors clothes than average, the home goods section is smaller with more of a focus on trendy decorative items, and the grocery area is pretty sizable considering the overall footprint of the store. This location also seems to be largely staffed by students/teens. Generally no issue, but returns are a bit more of a pain than I've encountered at other locations. The vibe of a lot of the interactions is "don't know better/first job." An interaction that comes to mind is when I had to pick up a shelf to get a replacement part from the box. There was no one around in the shelf area so I went to customer service and asked for help lifting it. The young man told me there should be someone over there. I walked back, there still wasn't, so I picked up the shelf and maneuvered it into the cart by myself. I wheeled it back and told him there wasn't anyone in that area, just as an FYI. "Did you lift it by yourself? You shouldn't do that, you can hurt your back." No duh, kid. That's why I came to ask for help and told you there wasn't anyone there in the first place. A few select interactions like that aside, my trips have been a pretty typical Target experience. This isn't my go-to location, but it is the closest so it's in my regular rotation. read more

What even is this place? The underground parking lot and the escalator and cart elevator blow my mind every time I'm here. Kind of makes Madison feel like a real city. I love it. The only beef I have with the place is they cater way too hard to the college crowd. But I like to play devil's advocate with myself, so I will say it's obvious why they do this (location), and most of my experience has, to this point, been at the peek of back-to-school sales. So I get that. However, the clothing section is actually impossible to navigate with a cart, because it is so cramped. It's a Target. It's nice, big, the huge windows that overlook University Avenue provide a unique view to the city. It opened on March 1 with the University of Wisconsin marching band, Bucky Badger and the mayor of Madison. My only complaint is that in Madison, at a time when the support of unions is so strong, and unions are so under attack from every corner, why did the mayor choose to herald the opening of this store. Target, as a corporation is VERY ANTI-Union. They don't allow unions, they don't allow any organization of a union within a Target, and if employees try to organize, they are fired. Clearly the mayor chose to whore out his beliefs in favor of tax dollars. read more

This is my neighborhood store. I used to come weekly but I don't anymore. I can not quite put a finger on why I don't visit as much. I do find what I need easy enough when I do shop there. Sometimes there are very good sales. It is nice to have a one store visit for multiple types of items. There are neat stuff to look at. Staff is usually helpful and pleasant. I like the covered parking lot. Maybe I'm just finding the quality of products a bit inadequate, as of late. I know I would never buy furniture there. I was looking for a can opener recently and I ended up not buying one because I didn't like any of the ones offered. But I do try to check out Target first when it comes to cleaning supplies, personal care items, and make up. And I am happy to have this option in my neighborhood. read more

I come to this target often, though it is in great shape and has the things you need, each time I come I wait over 20 minutes to checkout. This is a reoccurring issue whether in person or for self-checkout. A good reason to not visit. It's not the employee's issues as much as the management. read more

I love Target and am fortunate enough to live a couple steps away from my favorite one. It's identical to the Wal-Mart Super Center in Monona minus the slave Chinese labor, horrible management, being face-face with the worst society has too offer, unkept aisles, poor quality merchandise and employees so depressed goth kids seem chipper. Like most Target, the store never seems over-crowded, customers want to be there (rather than feeling they have no other option), great carts, desirable merchandise and friendly employees. Even better, this has a full grocery, a Starbucks and escalators (I did mention it was just a short walk from my residence)! Sure Target cost a little bit more than Wal-Mart, but if a slight premium is paid for not feeling physically ill, it's totally worth it. Oh Boy! A Target with a VIEW!!! Other than free-escalator rides at this location, it's still just a Target; shoddy products, apathetic employees and higher than norm prices. I live two blocks away and instead shop at Copps or Sentry just so I don't have to to deal with this soulless blackhole. But then again, maybe it's just me as I am I'm not their commercial-targeted, idyllic customer who is a 24-year-old woman who just moved into her first apartment. I have been there twice and both times have run into problems that were unresolved. AND, just so you know, the Target Corp doesn't even list a complaint email or number on their website in the absurd event that you might have to contact them. The Target out in Sun Prairie is much better. This target, while bigger, has a crappy selection of products in my opinon. Also, it seems that prices here are much more expensive than at the other locations. This could be due to location and demand. I get it as a business model but considering they have a huge customer base of young adults and college students, it would be great if the prices weren't through the roof. I came to this Target because I needed to pass time and wanted to purchase some hair dye. They seemed to have only sold 3-4 brands of dyes and their products geared more so towards African Americans where hardly non existence. They are really a place of convenience it seems. Happy I don't live on this side of town or I would probably would be forced to not shop at Target again. As I stated previously, the Target in Sun Prairie is much better. Jessica nailed it right on the head when she described this as "Space Target". My wife and I were enjoying a rare day trip to Madison, driving around, enjoying the parks and shops and catching a few rummage sales when we accidentally end up on this side of town. We drive right pass this Target and collectively say "WTF was that?!?". We turned around, found out it was a Target and made our monthly trip to Target a day earlier. Outside of this place is super fancy, with glass windows all over the place and underground parking. Yes, this is a two-story Target on stilts. It earns it an extra star for architectural creativity. The inside however, is just your normal run-of-the-mill Target outside of an extended Starbucks/deli with tons of windows that can accommodate the nearby students. If you are looking to do some heavy duty shopping and fill your cart, you might want to do it at a non-busy time. There's only one elevator, I could only imagine how hard it would be to get out of here during the Christmas rush. Nothing else is real special about this location, but I wish the heads at Target would build more locations like this. Building up is very smart, you don't waste all that land with the parking lot sprawled out. read more

I am a big fan of Target and this is one of the nicest ones I have shopped at. As another reviewer described it, it is Target on stilts. With two stories and underground parking. Which is super helpful for this freezing part of the country. The interior is very unique with glass walls, which provide nice views of University ave. Their layout is user friendly and the staff is nice. The rest of it is the same stuff that makes Target Target. My favorite part is the cart escalator. You put your cart on an escalator designed just for carts and it meets you at the next level. Super cool. They have elevators available too for those who would rather ride with their carts. read more

A pretty typical target. They have an awesome underground parking area with escalators to get into the store. It includes the typical Starbucks and food eatery section. Everything is usually neat and it's easy to find things. The reason that this isn't getting a 4 or 5 star rating is for two reasons: 1. The grocery section. This target is a huge supplier of food for college students. I take the bus off campus to pick up my groceries here but the shelves are often empty and under-stocked. I can't image it can be that hard to keep inventory on the shelves. Especially when it is one of the most used sections of the store. I travel the extra distance because it's less expensive than the fresh market and trader joes closer to campus, but when I come and everything is out of stock it is a waste of my time and money. 2. The lines at the checkout. I understand that it will be busy during the weekends or certain times of the day but I have never come during a time in which I didn't experience a 10 minute (or longer) wait. However, it is awfully fun to put your cart on the down escalator when your done shopping. No matter how times you do it, it never gets old read more

Okay, it's Target. What can really be said about that hasn't already been said. I'm comparing this Target to ones I experienced in my hometown of Milwaukee. I really think this is a great store. Clean, fast, and efficient. Maybe if I give you the background of the Target near my old home will help. Nothing was ever stocked...ever. The clothes on the sales rack were never organized. I would go during peak hours and there would be 2 lines open...it was horrific. Everything my last store was lacking, this store fixes. The sales racks? Flipping impressive. Sizes in order, neat, somewhat orderly...it makes a huge difference as a consumer. Each time I go there are numerous lanes open on top of self check out, always in and out! Do I spend way too much time and money at Target? You betcha. But I'm glad I'm spending it at this one! read more

Some purchased items were picked up on December 29th one day before the "Home" 10 % off offer began. I ordered some more items of the same brands on December 30th for pickup at Hilldale mall ( Madison, wi) branch. Today, 1/2/2019, I went to Hilldale Target to pick up the new things and adjust the price for the items picked up on 29th December. The employee refused to adjust the prices. I asked to return the new things I ordered online that I was picking up at this time, she refused, telling me that I have to wait 24 hours until i can return the items. I asked for the manager, she said she was the manager and no way out of this situation. 10 minutes later, I found out that the manager at that time is someone else, a man named "John". When he was called in the store mic to come to talk to me, she tried to come as if she was the manager again. I read the target policy from the app on pickup. It states "A printed receipt can be issued at the time of pickup upon request". This means that i can get a receipt and return purchases on the same day! She lied to me: 1-She refused to print a receipt at the time of pick up when I wished to return the purchase. 2-She said she was the manager!! 3-Again, she pretended she was the manager & came to me when they were calling for the real manager to talk to me. Besides she refused to adjust items picked up one day before offer began!!!!! read more

I love the location of this store. It looks like it would be a lot bigger on the inside with how large the building is on the outside. There is a big entrance under the parking garage that leads to the escalators and stairs up to the store. There are always plenty of carts and baskets for customers. You walk into the dollar section, the women's clothing and accessories. There is also a Starbucks in the corner when you exit. The store is spacious and the staff are pretty friendly. My only complaint is checkout area. This is always congested and takes awhile to checkout. The staff here are pretty slow and not very friendly. I think this store could use a lot more staff for the amount of people they have coming through the store on a daily basis. read more

Yes, I shamelessly love Target! Yes, you can just about anything in one place, and it has a cart escalator!! I swear I'm a grownup. Even though this one isn't a super target (well, I don't think it is anyway), they have a decent selection of fresh produce. Actually, I especially appreciate their limes. They're always good AND inexpensive. But I also love their kids clothes! I get lots of cute things for my niece here, at very affordable prices. I loved to shop at Target, finding that that they had almost anything that I needed at great prices. I also loved the convenience of having both a Target debit card and credit card. Recently, I checked my Experian, Equifax and Transunion bureaus, and found that all 3 bureaus had dropped significantly, as Target had closed my credit card account at their request, dinging my credit at all bureaus in a negative way. I was shocked, as I never had a late payment, and paid my card off on time every month. I callrd Target Guest Relations yesterday, to determine why they took this action, and was told that as I had not used the credit card in 15 months, they closed my account at their request, lowering my score. As the rude little minion that answered the phone was very unhelpful, I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor was even worse. She stated that she would send my complaint up the chain of command, as this was company policy, it would not change anything. I then asked if that person could contact me about my tale of woe, and I was told no. This useless idiot did state that if I wanted to reapply for another card, that I could, though another inquiry would lower my score yet again. I am disabled, and this negative experience has left me feeling violated. I will never, EVER go to a Target store again. By the way, i applied for an Amazon Rewards Signature Visa Card this morning, and have already been approved with a much higher credit limit. I will never shop at Target again, and neither should you! read more

This is my favorite of the Target stores I visit in the Madison area. I like the escalator (a little workout coming and going is always nice, if you're a climber like me). I can usually find what I need pretty easily, and they have a self checkout, which usually does not malfunction. Love that. Easy in and out and on my way. I'm not one of those Target junkies, I don't like to endlessly browse or come away with more than I came in for. The sales staff is pretty helpful and cheerful, even if they don't have something in stock and even though like every big box store you can tell they are overworked and understaffed. read more

I usually have great customer service here from the employees but I am dissapointed from my last trip. I use coupons sometimes to buy products and the cashier was friendly at first when ringing up my purchases. But when he read one of my coupons that said "one coupon per purchase" he was incompetent I believe because that means "per item" not per transaction. I've worked customer service for more than 5 years and this guy got upset really fast when I tried explainining it to him. He was rude and said "oh, interesting," as if i was lying. After that he passed the coupon but he was upset and it showed. Target please train your employees on your coupon policy. For now I will avoid this Target for any purchases with and without coupons. read more
