Just another Costco in New Jersey and the only disappointment is they do not sell liquor. I normally go to the Edison one, but had to come to this one to purchase something. Edison did not have. When I asked where the liquor section was, they said only two places in New Jersey Costco sell liquor, one in Edison/Wayne or the only two authorize to sell hard liquor. I always appreciate how clean Costco is and this one is no different. I just hate the check out process. They're so eager to scan your membership card, but keep the same energy for a scan & go system like Sams Club. And if theyre worried about people stealing, they can create a system like Amazon Go so you can't sneak things into your cart without scanning them. I like this better than Edison location - 1) billing is quick and less crowded . Whenever we pass by north Brunswick , we try to get our provisions from here . Returns also take less time than Edison .. there are also other shops around and they have their Costco gasoline service . Employees are very helpful and always smiling .. the only issue is - placement of items is totally different than other Costco locations . Ex - milk produce , fresh produce etc are in different places and we had to search for them . Otherwise it's a good experience overall .. good value read more

Last night I went to Costco North Brunswick to grab some groceries after work. When I passed by the tasting Lindor table, I saw candies were displayed in the tray. I stretched my hand to pick one, the serving lady was rude and tried to slap my hand and told me not to put my hand on the tray. I immediately pulled back my hand. She then said to me by pointing to the Lindor bag, choose either yellow or blue and I will give it to you. This is VERY rude behavior, and I said to her in polite way please just tell me not to pick up by myself rather than trying to slap my hand to stop me. She then was shouting at me and said something that I did not understand. I said to her I will report this incident to the store managers, and she was mad and shout at me '' GET OUT OF MY TABLE AND GO TELL TO THE MANAGER" At that time there was another lady (perhaps her coworker) came, and said to me "GET OVER WITH". I left the table without Lindor to finish my shopping, then passing by the Table again on the way out, her friend still standing and chatting with her, saying to me with loud voice "COMING BACK AGAIN" !. I still remember this employee was shouting to Indian customers in the past. Could it be a same situation? How come Costco is still let this kind of situation happen again? Need to train the serving personals at the tasting food table not to be rude to customers (check your cctv on Dec 9, ~4:30 pm) (on the way out I told one of Costco employee she was apologizing to me about this incident). Costco. The smartest dumb company around. Don't get me wrong, I'm still impressed by their miles of aisles and capacity to literally move tons of merchandise with skill and finesse. But let's be real -- ever since they went self-service checkout, the lines to get out rival those at the southern border. Costco still insists that you place all merchandise on a scale next to the terminal which creates unnecessary confusion among those who just want to pay. And here's a tip straight from the 20th Century... how about a scanning wand so I don't have to rotate my 20 pack of garbanzo beans against the microscopic optical reader. Shrinkage is still kept to a minimum as they now have at least three human item counters before you reach the exit. Come on Costco get a wand. I hear they're magic. We were about to pay when Yris came up and literally harassed us into getting an upgrade. My mom literally said "no we're okay, if we change our mind, we will come back" like 10 times until the person behind us had to bud into our conversation, Yris told the guy to mind his own business because she was talking to us and not him, the guy said "they said no and you are holding up the line so it is our business." After that, she finally let us pay but she was being rude to the customer that help us escape from her. We felt embarrassed and bad because we were the reason the line was backed up. Also, She was literally towering over my mom to the point where we can smell her breath, and she was speaking very loudly so it attracted many people to look our way. read more

I'm probably not the only one to say this, but one of the best things to happen in my home township this past decade (2010s) was the opening of Costco in 2014. This came with the opening of BJ's on the other side of Route 1. Both are staples for many families and small business owners alike. For my family, Costco is the go-to. This is built like most typical Costco locations. Super huge warehouse, very similar layout. Anyone who's been here knows the drill, you come here for - maybe - 10-15 things and end up buying like twice as many things that are not on the shopping list. Go through each and every aisle, from looking at TVs to buying a random set of bedsheets to looking at clothes, food, etc. Pre-COVID, sample some food too. Anyhow, I don't have much more to add than most people. People who come to Costco know why they're here. But I'll give you some key tips of Costco, I guess: 1) Take advantage of Costco Gas (even if you don't have a Costco card): People may not know this, but you can use your own Visa card to purchase gas. Try to go at an odd time during the workweek if you can (especially if you are WFHing now) 2) You can get passport photos done here. It's near the Optical section. 3) Get the airfryer. It was great to have a Costco finally open up close to my parents' house! We used to drive all the way over to Bridgewater when we were younger and it felt like such a long journey lol (again, we were children). Anyway, this Costco has a great selection indoors! It's set up like any other Costco. They have a gas station outside which is always ridiculously crowded. I guess that's also typical as well, except for the fact that we're in NJ and you have to wait for the person to come around to pump your gas. Self Checkout! This is the only Costco I've been to so far with self checkout lanes which is genius! This is especially helpful to me when I need to run in to get few items and don't have to stand behind carts and carts full of items. I generally visit during off hours so that the lines are shorter and on a recent visit, I was able to walk right up to these self checkout lanes. I wish I could say that the lines for refueling my car were as short, as those were quite long. read more

Customer service is absolutely horrible. The lady that works at the front door denied my son entry as he is only 15 and doesn't have a membership. I was inside the store and I sent a photo of my membership card and she did not let my son in she was being incredibly rude and told my son to leave he was only 15. I wish I got her name. A Costco with a nice environment but unfortunately with a few mindless design features especially bad and on display when the store gets a lot of traffic. When it gets busy here the lines to wait and pay get easily overwhelmed, much like at the Edison costco. The aisles to buy granola bars and such is too close to the registers so that people end up only able to wait on line for the registers at each end. The middle ones are hard to get to with the log jam of shopping carts. The end result is slow chaos with people cutting in and out. Similarly the tire center is very disorganized. It took me 45 minutes for a return torque check after going 20 miles after installing new tires. At North Plainfield Costco the tire center let's me pull up outside for a quick torque check. Here you have to wait in line inside at the tire center where there often isn't anyone manning the register. Then go back outside for what felt like forever. The gas station outside is a mirror of the inside register situation. The area for cars to wait get overwhelmed so only the end on both sides are able to have lines while the middle gas stations are hard to get to. The end result is you have people going around the line and trying to cut. Today they didn't have shopping carts inside waiting for people at the entrance. When the guy showed up with 15 carts people were fighting over them. read more

I want to love Costco, I have to push myself to go to my own township Costco. Not once but 3x have I dealt with rude cashiers. A lot worse over the weekend and I get it's busy. Must of us work, I understand it's a job but if the person doing the job already at 10am isn't happy there is a problem. The store just opened. I have Arnika multiple times as a cashier but after the 2 times she was not only rude but made a racist remark I said I must avoid this cashier and Costco. Costumer and Humans in general do not need to be treated this way. i understand the job isn't easy but not every shopper's in a rude or condescending ways you can not speak to everyone as if they were children or yell as if they were death. Costco is a staple part of our grocery shopping and I'm constantly recommending it to everyone I know. Big ticket household items are always bought here. Meats, cheeses, cleaning supplies are items we always get at Costco. While the store carries a very limited variety of brands, they consistently carry some of the best brands on the market. They are very consistent on quality as well as the prices. If you can, I really recommend going during lunch time on a weekday. That way, you'll be able to try the samples without fighting tooth and nail for them. The samples are a fun perk of going but the weekends get extremely crowded so watch out for that. The Costco storebrand Kirkland is consistently good and a better buy from traditional brands. It's not the best place for produce if you have a small family. But the meats and cheeses are always good quality. read more

Drove by there many times but never bothered entering since my family and I always go to another Costco in Edison, NJ. We were in the area so I decided to shop at this location. First, when pulling into the parking lot, I noticed the plenty of parking space available which is not normal for Sunday at 1pm. Oh yeah! Second, the minimal number of cars parked means there's not many customers inside, cart jams and lines for food samples and super long cashier lines! Oh, can I get a hell yeah! Items are neatly stacked and stocked. The setups are pretty similar to other Costco locations more or less with electronics displays at the entrance and then outdoor furnitures and patio/yard items, then your produce, bakery and meat/cold cuts area, then another cold room for the eggs/dairy items. The waters, juice and beers along with napkins and tissues are in the far right corner. Of course, no one can miss the alcohol section. Many wine bottles out on display right in the center of Costco. We will definitely stop by this location more often given that we were able to shop and checkout of Costco in records time and with no hassle! read more

The gas is usually cheaper than at other local stations - it was 10 cents cheaper per gallon for credit than it was at the local Valero and Raceway for cash! The only issue is that I have to get out of the car to put my card in. In nice weather, that is not a problem, but in extreme temperatures, it isn't much fun. The lines often get very long for the gas station, though when I went at mid-day, it was virtually empty! They only have regular and premium, so if you need mid-grade or diesel, go somewhere else. I love Costco, but not this one. I was thrilled that a branch was opening in my town. But North Brunswick must have the most restrictive liquor laws in all of Central NJ. They don't carry booze of any kind, which means I still have to schlep to Edison or Princeton if I want a bottle of wine at better prices. Even my beloved Trader Joe's, which opened more recently, doesn't have alcohol. I'm sure it's not the fault of either company, but it's a definite minus. But that's not the only problem: I had only a couple of items, and there were enough registers open so that I didn't have to wait all that long, but the exit is cramped, and I had to wait in a long line to have the one person checking receipts to validate mine. That whole area seems smaller and cramped, and I'm used to there being two checkers at the exit. And, despite my numerous complaints, they still have no hand sanitizers in the food court, or cart sanitizers, which every medical organization urges people to use. Yes, I'm a germophobe, but only because I read a lot of stuff, On the plus side the "Costco Buffet" was still dispensing snacks after 6 pm, so kudos for that! If this is the only Costco you've ever been to, you'll be more than satisfied, especially if you have to fill up your gas tank. You'll pay less than anywhere else. read more

The cashier was horribly rude. I don't even know where to start. She yelled loudly at me and my husband as we were getting our membership card and she had a fit. It literally took a second to hand her the card but she started putting our groceries from the counter back into our cart. Me and my husband were shocked! Shawn couldn't pay attention to me saying I had 2 separate orders and began pulling items from my cart and putting it on the conveyor belt. I didn't want to interrupt his conversation with a 3rd employee (but I had to). He had the audacity to be insulted. When I explained I'm shopping for 2 separate households (like many in NJ who shop for ourselves and our parents), he told me that I could put the items on the conveyor belt myself. This continues to be my favorite Costco as it tends to have more Asian selections, from korean japchae noodles to Indian curry to Chinese sausages. Customer service has always been great and everything is always best and orderly. I only wish they would switch up the food court menu every so often.
