Disappointing Costco Travel Transportation Experience -- Do Not Recommend We booked a travel package through Costco Travel for our honeymoon, which included transportation to and from the Cancun airport and our hotel. While the hotel itself was great, the transportation experience was absolutely horrible and put a damper on the start of our honeymoon. When we arrived at the Cancun airport, the transportation company was supposed to be displaying a Costco logo so we could easily identify them. They were not, which made it difficult to find our transportation. Unfortunately, things got much worse on the way to the hotel. Our shuttle broke down on the side of the road, leaving us stranded in another country in approximately 90° heat. The driver told us another vehicle would arrive in 5 minutes. Five minutes passed, and we were told it would be another 5 minutes. This continued, and we ultimately waited about an hour for another shuttle to arrive. Being stranded on the side of the road for an hour during what was supposed to be the beginning of our honeymoon was extremely stressful and unacceptable. This was a terrible way to start what should have been a special trip. After returning home, we contacted Costco Travel and were initially assured that they would make it up to us. After a lot of back-and-forth, however, the only compensation offered was $37 -- the amount that the transportation company had refunded to Costco. Costco did not provide any additional compensation, despite our request for a Costco gift card to acknowledge the poor experience. We expected much better from Costco, especially as loyal Executive members. The transportation company provided a terrible experience, and Costco's response afterward was equally disappointing. I booked a car through Costco Travel with Budget and received a confirmation. But when it was time to pick up the car, Budget told me they had no cars available and canceled/refused the reservation. I called Costco Travel for help, but they only sent me back to Budget. In the end, I had to rent another car through Turo at the last minute and pay more. Very disappointing experience. A confirmed reservation should mean the car is available, or Costco Travel should help find a real solution. read more

We got semi-screwed on a cruise booking, we went with 3 parties in our group who booked together, the 2 of them were able to book an "XB" cabin which is any available balcony, (and subsequently, about 25% cheaper) than picking your own balcony.. we were not able to select the XB option, of course until the next day it magically appeared again for us. We ended up paying +$300 more than everyone else in our group because of Costco's technical error. Not fun! Will never use Costco travel again, total scam and not worth it. I called to get it adjusted 1 day later and they said it was "too late" -- thanks for nothing, Costco! Costco service is really not all it's cracked up to be, they are pretty bad tbh when the time comes for actual help on anything of significance.. Awful support, zero help, and no resolution. So utterly disappointed with Costco travel. This was my first time booking a Costco Travel vacation after 29 years as a Costco member. We had a situation where my husband was told by his doctor that he shouldn't fly after 3 weeks post surgery due to his total knee replacement. At the time when I booked the vacation I did not know that it would take that long for him to be able to actually fly. I reached out to Costco Travel to see if there's anything we could do to get some of our money back as we still had to pay for three people instead of just the two who went. Costco Travel did nothing to help us. They basically told us we were s*** out of luck in essence and we ended up paying for three people when only two people went. I booked a family trip to Hawaii four months in advance. Two months later, I received an email from Costco stating that my flight home from Hawaii had been changed and would be delayed by three to four hours later than originally intended. We paid extra with United Airlines to have a better return flight. We contacted the Costco travel agent for help. Instead, they said there was nothing they could do and pointed fingers at us for booking online, saying we were responsible. They also pointed fingers at United Airlines. They claimed they could do nothing. I am very, very disappointed, and this is the third time we have booked with them. What kind of agency collects people's money and then, when there's an issue, is unwilling to resolve it, but instead points fingers at the customer or the airline? This is a poorly run travel agency. No way I would recommend Costco travel for any of your vacations. My flight was cancelled by American Airlines and was never notified since I booked through Costco. Apparently they still haven't fixed notifying customers about flight delays since their system is set up appropriately. I read many similar reviews and they still can't get it right in 2025. I ended up spending an extra $800 to book a flight with another airline since they couldn't help. I DO NOT recommend. Airline and Costco will push blame against each other and make you do the work to get any sort of resolution. read more

My wife and I have booked two trips with Costco Travel and so far, we've been very happy. We highly recommend Costco Travel and look forward to booking our next trip with them. The roundtrip airfare included flights between LAX and Papeete, French Polynesia via Air Tahiti Nui (coach) and flights between Papeete and Bora Bora via Air Tahiti (open seating). My wife priced the same package separately and we learned that the Costco Travel package saved us thousands of dollars. We got a really great deal on that trip to Bora Bora. At the time of writing this review, that Bora Bora trip still tops our lists for best vacation. The second package we purchased from Costco Travel was our vacation at Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in 2024. That package also cost just under $10k. It included five nights in an oceanfront suite with private plunge pool, jacuzzi, and more at Grand Velas (a luxe all-inclusive resort), hydrotherapy sessions for both of us at the spa, daily $50 spa credits, a $376 digital Costco Shop Card, a $100 Joy Photography credit, roundtrip airfare from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and roundtrip private ground transportation between the airport and resort. Our flights to and from Cancun were on American Airlines (business class). Our ground transportation was provided by BD Experience in nice, dedicated vans (just us two and a driver, each way). Unlike the Bora Bora trip, we did not price-compare the Mexico trip. Therefore, I don't know how much money we saved, if any, by booking Grand Velas through Costco Travel. When my wife first booked the Mexico trip, she had us staying in the "Zen Grand" part of the resort, with a jungle view. I wanted an ocean view with a private plunge pool. That required us to move to the "Grand Class" adults-only section of the resort. That added about $2,500 to the Costco Travel package cost. I thought it was worth it. By doing so, more hotel options will be available to you. You can then follow through with booking a rental car and just not pick it up. I heard this tip from a Costco Travel agent. I booked my trip to Hyatt Ziva Cancun in December for March 2025 and requested special room decorations and a private sunset dinner on March 23 to commemorate our 10-year anniversary. Upon arrival, however, only the room decorations were arranged, and the private dinner was not. After inquiring with the front desk, I was informed that Costco Travel had failed to transfer the dinner request. As a result, I had to contact Costco Travel the next day and they reached out to the hotel food and beverage concierge they talked to Costco and no one claimed responsibility nor saw my request. Then the third time they ultimately claimed that the dinner was merely a request, without providing a clear explanation or accountability for the mishap. This series of events caused significant inconvenience and wasted time, ultimately affecting our ability to fully enjoy our trip. Had Costco Travel notified me prior to my trip that the dinner could not be booked, I would have made alternative arrangements for my anniversary dinner. I purchased my hotel package (Queen Kapiolani Hotel) Oahu through costco and was super happy. The hotel through costco had no hidden resort fees. I chose the location as I wanted to be near the beach 1 block and central to ABC stores, shops and bus routes since we are avoiding using UBERs and taxis and car rental to save cash Cost also included the shuttle transfers to and from airport.Upon check in the staff was fast, friedndly, room was ready quick. We received our free bottled water. dole whip sample. they have laundry onsite $4.50 to wash and dry. we had a corner room city view 10th floor and Diamond back mountain view off balcony and ocean. room service is great. we had mini fridge, coffee and tea maker, safe in room utensils and chinaware and sink. We went to Safeway about 1/2 a way and made food in room when needed. The AC blew cold. we purchased out package for $1600 6 days. we were able to spread out payment over 90 days this may change depending on your package. The bus stops are across the street and we were able to meet our tour bus at the Twin Fin hotel 1 block away. Diamond back state park. leanoards bakery and the Makai market and Alo Moana center is 30min bus ride away. The hotel has a great bar , tasty drinks and good food as well. Guess I'm kind of joining the crowd here. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Costco travel which has been my go-to for rental cars and sometimes hotel reservations for trips. After AAA discounts for these became more of a rarity, I found this to be a helpful source. I recently looked and found hotel reservations for a short road trip to celebrate a friend's marriage. After learning of the event schedule, I pondered whether to reduce my stay from two nights to one. I read my email confirmation and could not find a way to do this online so I called their customer service number on a Friday afternoon. Before being queued in line for the next agent, the message stated it would be a sixty to ninety minute wait. Being busy with errands as I drove home, I decided to try again at another time. The next morning, I called again and got the exact same message but, having some time, I waited. After 1 hour and 24 minutes, I had errands to run so I surrendered again. Helpful suggestions for the business: a. Set up an online link to make changes to reservations, whether an online link or an email address to send requests and b. For callers, please have a system to enter a phone number for a callback when an agent is available. I will continue to use your services but this may help reduce customer issues and raise your business rating closer to a four or five star. read more

Our flight was only delayed by 20 minutes, the driver claimed he waited 90 minutes, which was untrue, I had the proof of when we arrived. The driver service and Costco were worthless. I booked a cruise with Costco travel and then I decided to cancel and based on the timeline they provided I only had to forfeit my initial deposit. A few days later I get my refund from Carnival but it's only 60% of the refund amount I was to receive according to my cancellation confirmation. I called Costco travel to see what is going on, spent an hour on the phone and the rep told me that carnival is refusing to provide more of a refund because the timeline that Costco gave me was incorrect. The rep acknowledged that is not my problem but it's costcos problem and they assured me they would take care of it and a supervisor would call me the next business day to rectify. Fast forward 3 weeks and I hadn't heard from a supervisor so I called back and was assured again that I would receive a call the following business day as the supervisor is away. That day comes and goes and no one calls me back. I call a third time and finally get a supervisor. He agrees that Costco gave me the incorrect timeline but it was their error so they will provide me with either A- a Costco shop card ( basically costing them absolutely nothing and forcing me to spend that money at Costco) or B. Have them mail me a cheque that will take 8 WEEKS! They said they don't have another way to give my money back to me. I wouldn't be so bent if it didn't take almost a month to get a resolution but this is just ridiculous. How long would it take if I didn't keep following up. They made us pay for the hotel reservation cancelation and we were told that we had to pay $200. per ticket fee making them a total of Hotel $216.22. Flight tickets $200. x 4 Travel Insurance $103.17 $1,119.39 This is complete robbery! There was nothing we could of done about the lack of tests available and were never informed by the booking agent of the travel restrictions. All our family wanted to do was meet our new nephew..... I will never book through Costco for travel again. we booked an all inclusive travel package in January of 2025 for travel in April. website was easy to book through and it was easy to make the payments. However, as soon as there were issues, Costco disappeared. We had a lot of flight changes, which is normal and not a big problem except Costco does not inform you of any change. We had our business seats downgraded to economy and they never once informed us. we had to call them and ask them to fix our seats so we could select our new seat selections. we had to do the research on how they would do this by calling air Canada and then calling Costco back with the instructions. Costco then refused to reimburse us for the change in the downgrade. we were out about 1000$ due to this. I made reservations through Costco Travel for my husband and I to go on a vacation to Maui. We had round trip direct flights to and from. When we got to the airport there was no Hawaiian Airlines counter and we were told our flight had left 3 hours ago. I called Costco Travel and they said they sent me emails, I checked our trash and spam and email...nothing other than the original confirmation. They ended up getting us a flight with a stop in Seattle on the way there, but we missed out on an entire day in Maui. On our way home it was another flight with a stop in LA and we weren't even seated together, a 3 hour layover, and an additional cost of over 200.00!! How in the world can that be okay? I will never rent another car from Budget or Avis, but Costco Travel will continue to be my go-to place for a car rental. TWO STARS: NOT WORTHY OF THE COSTCO NAME I booked a mid-size SVU for a month with Budget through Costco Travel, and when I got to the Scottsdale airport in the afternoon to pick up my car, none was available. After an hour wait, I had to settle for an (Avis) full size, and when I started the engine, the maintenance light came on. Waited an hour for another car, and it seemed okay... but later in the day, the windows wouldn't go down. Avis Roadside Assistance told me to switch to a third car the next morning... and I drove that for the remainder of the trip. There was something wrong with the safety features, but at that point I'd given up and didn't want to waste any more vacation time. I saved $200 by booking with Costco ($1500 versus $1700), as opposed to booking directly with Budget. I think Budget treats Costco customers like crap because they are getting lower prices for their rental cars. Personally, I'd rather pay a little more and get a car without issues. (Have rented many cars directly over the years, and never had three cars in one day.) I complained to Costco Travel. I have read a lot of mixed reviews regarding Costco travel. However, we decided to give them a try for our trip to Hawaii. I feel like in both the hotels (we stayed on 2 Islands) we were placed in the reject rooms. Not horrible but I expected better. The good news is we were able to upgrade - of course there were additional costs. Transportation from our airport to the hotel in Oahu was easy. Someone was standing at baggage clam holding a sign and directed us to our shuttle. There was about a 25 min wait for the shuttle but not horrible. Of course you share with others but it went smoothly. The only thing that made me upset was our flight from Oahu to the big island was cancelled and we were NEVER informed. I found out myself while looking on the Hawaiian airlines app. I thought it was my mistake, that I had missed some form of communication informing me of the cancellation but NOPE. No notification whatsoever. The good news is that they already booked me on another flight that was only a two hour longer wait. Some people were not as lucky. However I still wish someone had notified me. Not sure if that's really Costcos fault or the airlines but still....watch your flights! The transportation on the big island was super easy....rental car right at the airport. Overall I would use them again, but I definitely think this could be a hit or miss situation. read more

Our European vacation from the outset was filled with frustration, anxiety and disappointment. Very poor communication with Intl Airlines and my family (their customer), re. booking support, seating, changes in seating, flight arrangements, etc. We had to sort out travel details for my family (6 of us) a week before our departure due to delayed communication from Costco Travel. What a mess, hours and hours on the phone. Fundamental/Basic services were nonexistent and were advised that on the next trip, we purchase "Trip Protection" insurance for inconveniences and issues that should have been eliminated and/or mitigated by Costco Travel. Trust me Costco offers so much more than toilet paper and groceries! I've found that Costco Travel always offers the best prices plus generous cash cards usable at Costco stores. Costco Travel's call center is open 7 days a week so it's always possible to reach someone. In my experience it's best to call midweek afternoons for shorter hold times. This review is for Costco Travel's awesome service in helping me to move a cruise booking. To make a long story short, I wanted to move an existing cruise reservation to the next year due to COVID concerns. At first the cruise line refused to honor this "lift and shift" request (even though it was offered on the cruise line's website). However Tierney and Sylvana at Costco Travel took the time and effort to advocate for me and now I'm booked on the later cruise. It took a few lengthy phone calls but they got the job done. I don't think a TA without Costco's clout could have accomplished this especially given the current COVID chaos. Costco may be a "big box store" but they're also very customer oriented. NEVER AGAIN I booked a vacation through them to Orlando. After researching the hotel I found out the hotel was under construction. I contacted a rep and they told me they would call the hotel and make sure they gave me a room away from the construction. And if I had issues when I got there to contact them they would help me find other accommodations. I got to the hotel and the place was horrible. I had to find another hotel to stay at during my vacation..... I immediately called Costco to talk to someone in customer service I told them I checked out due to the condition of the hotel they told me that they would have to contact the hotel and they would get back to me. They never did. I had to call them two days later and they told me that the person I was to speak to was only there in the evening to call when I got back from my vacation or he should have contacted me back before that. Well they never contacted me. Not a surprise..... I called a week later when I got back from my vacation. I finally got in contact with a rep that sent in a claim that should have been sent in the week before and they told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks. We missed our flight by two minutes , the airline said we would need Costco to help get us on the next flight we waited in hold for 3 hours ended up buying new tickets through an other airline . Then Costco canceled our flight home as well so we had to re buy both original flights so we were 9out 1809$ which Costco said is normal and they was nothing they would be willing to do. Do NOT BOOK TRAVEL WITH COSTCO!!! do not!!! - first of all it is much cheaper if you book through orbits or Expedia. - second of all, you don't have to wait for business hours to open to adjust/fix your reservation ( ridiculous) - their travel system is pretty outdated and old. which makes a lot of mistakes with integration and booking correctly - refund process takes forever - people answering the phone calls are polite and lack customer service if there is an issue with reservation. ( not all of them) - don't give a crap if they loose you as a customer, you gone? there will be another one! that's the attitude. so please save your money, nerves and energ. book somewhere else, not Costco travel. never again! read more
