Getting a Costco in Maine has been an entirely new ballgame for us. Financially, I don't know if shopping here saves us any money because we buy literally everything we never knew we always needed (appliances, housewares, dog toys, clothing, snacks, outdoor games, electronics, gift cards, travel, and the list goes on). But, for the things we buy that are on our list, it's always a great deal. Favorite Costco (Kirkland) items: frozen chicken chunks and paper towels. I'm a Bounty girl but these paper towels are on another level. To review the specific warehouse: *it's insanely busy all the time, just as other warehouses we've been to *despite the busy-ness, it still feels clean and organized (not organized as in it makes sense because nothing about the layout makes sense) *people are vultures for the free samples. If you want to actually try something, get in line early *they move their stock around frequently. You can't look in the same place 2 weeks in a row because it likely moved *every employee we've encountered has been super friendly and helpful *not only do we get our dog meds at a massive discount but the pharmacist is so friendly! I am definitely a Costco junkie ;) Costco itself gets a 10/10. read more

Putting aside the question of how worthwhile warehouse shopping is generally, or for house dwellers vs apartment renters, etc... I am very happy with this Costco location. I was excited when they coming to the area and had plans months in advance to switch over from BJs. It's convenient, it's large, it's clean, the gas is cheap, the sample stations are plentiful, the hot dogs are hefty. It's everything you want in a Costco. I have always thought it funny and bothersome that stores like this sell clothing but have nowhere for a customer to try it on, though I am assured the returns policy is generous here. I have noticed they don't sell kids socks here though, that's annoying. I regularly buy paper products, desserts, seltzer, snacks, and greens (we have voracious rabbits) here and have always been happy with the selection. The vegetables are FRESH! Also - when I was considering a membership, I asked to browse the store first so I could make my decision and they let me do that which I appreciate. It was confusing to me that they didn't seem to understand why someone would want/need to do that, but I am grateful they allowed it. read more

New Member here - from start to finish, the customer service was great! Even on a busy day, they were friendly, professional and kind. I am a member of other local warehouse stores (BJ/Sam) and while each has their own vibe and offerings, there are some unique reasons to go to Costco with amazing prices: croissants, tofu, safe-to-eat cookie dough bites, bacon/gruyere egg bites, and so much more. CONS: always busy/packed PROS: lines move fast Now the big question! The famous Costco hot dog: meh, it was ok. But the pizza and chicken bake is where it is at. Fight me. I can see how people would love Costco, but it's not for me. I live in a small apartment with no real storage, I try to only buy what I need in all aspects of my life, I eat plant-based... I don't think I'm really the demographic for this store. But if you need to bulk buy shrimp and bras, purchase a grill that can fit a hundred hamburgers, get a karaoke machine or just full drum kit, or fit your ride with brand new tires then this might be the place for you! - I don't like how there's someone at the door who goes through your cart and your receipt line item by line item when you leave to make sure you're only taking what you bought. - I don't like how this particular store is laid out (there is no floor plan; it just sort of seems like pallets of stuff were dropped wherever). - I don't like how hard the bathrooms are to find. - I don't like how the other customers seem oblivious to everyone around them (I've never been hit by so many carts or been run into by children or been literally shouldered out of the way like I have at Costco). I'm torn on Costco. Yes, they have some great deals, especially on gas. They have a great bakery and the produce is pretty decent. Some of the patrons, you know who I mean, are over the top crazy. They'll either block aisles or dart right in front of you as you're trying to walk through. Weekends are the worst time to go because those are the days Costco gives out samples. Customers are extra moody then. Best time is on a week nights around 7:00. Definitely more enjoyable. I bring my AirPods, grab some steps in, buy something new. I love they have discounted gift cards to local places like Margaritas, Apple Cinema and Portland Pie Co. And try the hotdog combo once. It's a $1.50 read more

Great value! Great selections! Great guarantee! Great fuel stations! We have shopped at other Costcos and this is by far a better experience that the MA one we used to go to. Service and the customer experience. When this place is busy, it still feels more organized than other big box stores. The times when it's been chaotic, the employees were not the source of the issue or back up. We usually use the self-checkout and there is always a staff member ready to jump in to help with large item scans or any other needs you might have. Once that light starts to flash, by the time you start to turn your head slightly to look for someone, they are standing right beside you ready to help. The POS systems are fast, we haven't noticed any lag time, which is nice. The scanning surface is usually clean as well - hardly any smudges! LOL - YES, I do look at the cleanliness of the technology. We used a full serve check out and the employees were so energetic, and FUNNY! Definitely made me smile. AND, she didn't slam around my apples when scanning them...(which is why I normally use self checkout) We have purchased a variety of things from this store, clothes for kids, hard drives for our network, toys for kids, a screen door, tires for our car (installed on site) and of course food - apples (Sugar Bees YUM), premade meals, desserts, frozen food, snacks for the family galore and health and beauty, paper products etc. We have had a consistent and enjoyable experience at the Costco Cafe. The staff move fast and don't make eye contact, they are literally working and focused on getting you your food as fast as they can. Pizza-Yum, Cookie-YUM, chocolate vanilla twist-Yum, Hotdog and Soda for $1.50 - I mean that's a crazy good deal. Plenty of parking! Yup! I am a Costoholic, and I am not ashamed to admit that when I travel around, if I have time (and room in my suitcase) I will hit a Costco. I was very happy to read that they had opened one in the Portland area and the first in Maine, so I did have a few hours free to make my trip to the new location. Not all Costco stores are the same. This location has a larger square footage that an "average" sized store. This allows for more selection and variety. Speaking of that, this location has done an excellent job of stocking products, specifically clothing on my visit, to Mainers. I visited in October and found many insulated/thick padded clothing all at very good price points. Also, the food section has a very good and somewhat expanded variety to help fill up the trunk of a car or checked bag in my case. This location has some of the best customer centric employees at the service desk, check out and snack bar. The next time I am in York/Ogunquit you can expect a return visit from me! read more

Absolutely loved it! So glad we have this Costco in Maine. Everyone has been incredibly kind, even with the influx of people during the opening week. This Costco is really well staffed and stocked up with everything you need (minus liquor; they haven't gotten their liquor license yet as of December 2023). The store is very clean and organized, and the prices just can't be beat. Large Costco located in southern Maine! Is new and super clean and well managed. This place is massive as it is the only one in Maine and needs to cover a large demographic. Having gone to many different Costcos throughout Southern California, it was fascinating being able to find a few of our favorite items from different Costcos all located in the same location here. Stopped at Costco yesterday with my wife to pick up some needed items. For the last few months, we've been shopping mostly at Sam's Club but we wanted to stop in Costco today to see what we could see. We picked up everything we need including a bag of coffee. The majority of the good coffee that was in stock was all whole bean. Never had an issue buying whole bean before. After waiting in line to pay for our merchandise I asked the clerk where the bean grinder was? His response as well as others I received was absolutely unsatisfactory. They stated that "most Costco's" have divested in their bean grinders. I asked what am I supposed to do with this coffee that I just bought that is whole bean? I was told I, "You can return it over there." So off I go to wait another line to return the coffee that I just bought. I mentioned to three separate people that it would've been nice if there would been a sign in the coffee area noting that there was no bean grinders available. Each of those was met with a blank stare and silence almost like I'm the the idiot, I should've known there was no bean grinder! What's wrong with a process improvement and adding a little signage? read more

First off I am a huge fan of Costco, Their optical department just makes me love them even more! Huge selection of designer frames at an amazing price along with their own brand that are super inexpensive. All the coatings are included in the lens's price which never happens at your eye drs office! The lenses are great quality and the turn around to get your glasses is very quick. The costco guarantee beats any eye drs. There is not an optometrist on duty at the Scarborough costco yet, but soon I hear. read more

The hearing provider at Costco was a narcissist and he treated the young man that was working for him like garbage. Costco you should be ashamed of yourself to let something like this go on for as long as it did when you clearly knew about it before the provider quit. I heard that the clinician was using toxic chemicals on hearing aids, I also saw him create an appointment that never happened. I am all about saving money, but if you value your customers you shouldn't place them at risk! read more

Don't buy hearing aids from Costco in Scarborough the so called Audiologist they had up until roughly August of 2024 had his license revoked in over five states counting Texas, Colorado and Washington. This provider was extremely abrasive and didn't properly check ears, used toxic chemicals to clean aids etc. I am ashamed that I trusted Costco to do their due-diligence when hiring a health care provider. Now they haven't had anyone at the Scarborough location that is licensed to help their customers in almost a year. Costco should be ashamed and shouldn't be allowed to continue this type of service with no overview! read more

I love Costco in general, but this review is specifically for the pharmacy. If you haven't checked out the pharmacy, you should - the prices at Costco pharmacy are consistently lower than the prices we get at our local CVS with insurance. The pharmacists and techs are also really helpful, and unlike CVS, you can actually call the pharmacy at Costco and speak to a HUMAN immediately!! Though I've been a Costco member for decades when I lived in other states, I only started using their pharmacy a few years ago, and at first it was only to get pet meds for my dog. The prices for my dog's medication was much lower than on chewy.com, or at my local vet, or anywhere else online. I'm just bummed that it took me so long to realize that human meds are also worth buying at Costco. Yes, I have to drive further to get to Costco - instead of zipping down the road about 5 minutes to get to CVS and wait in an interminable line to pick up my meds, now I have to drive like 20 minutes. But there is rarely any line at the pharmacy (you pay there, not in the general Costco checkout area), and I can always reach someone by phone if I have a question, AND I save lots of money! I just hope I haven't messed things up for myself by getting more people to try the pharmacy there ... maybe the lines will be longer soon... read more

Costco is a terrible place to buy hearing aids from the clinician that was working there had his license suspended in multiple states. Then after that clinician left they didn't have a clinician for almost 6 months. I can't believe a Company this size would overlook the fact that they were putting their customers at risk to make a profit by employing someone thats license was suspended and had malpractice cases. if you go to Costco for clinical services especially in Scarborough make sure you get someone qualified. read more

Well stocked (I've never been to a Costco that wasn't). Friendly and courteous employees. Ample parking and a gas station. I love the meats and prepared foods (meatloaf and mashed potatoes), chicken pot pies, shepherds pie and of course the rotisserie chicken for $4.99. I haven't had to use the car services here(thank goodness), but I have at a CT one and was very satisfied. Membership is $60/ year and well worth it. This review is for the Maine location. read more

Costco is great. One thing to note if you order any large items they use an odd shipping company that causes massive delays and the whole process doesn't work. I kept getting emails from Costco saying it was being delivered today( it wasn't). Then I was getting text from RXO.com saying to call to set up a delivery time ... in 3 weeks. When you call the number it was some that was very difficult to understand ( not a big deal) but difficult to get the correct info. Then they quickly transfer you to Costco who also didn't know what was happening and just said their system was broken. I will definitely go to the warehouse but never order anything online. read more
