I do like a few of their items and love the Members Mark products, however, they seem a little pricier than another big box (BJ's where I have a membership). Highly unimpressed. Sam's had a 1 year card on sale for $15 (usually $50) so I snapped it up. Went in today for the first time ever and at the service desk I got my card and off I went shopping. I get done shopping and hit the checkout line and the screen asks me if I want to upgrade to membership plus for an extra $56.... uh no Here's where things went downhill because the cashier tells me that without membership plus I can't shop in the store before 10am Wait what....I can't shop whenever I want to unless I pay an extra $56 Guess I won't be shopping there often cuz I prefer to shop first thing in the morning They really need to tell members that BEFORE buying the membership read more

I'm a non-member and attempted to purchase a gift card yesterday for $200.00 as a gift for a Sam's Club member here in Scarborough. I was told I couldn't buy one since I wasn't a member. I explained that I'm visiting from Portland, Oregon where there are no Sam's Clubs so I couldn't buy one before I left and there is no point in becoming a member since there are no stores there. Then I asked to change a $100.00 bill for two $50.00 dollar bills and was told they couldn't do it unless I was doing a transaction. When I got home I attempted to buy the gift card on line and there was a $20.00 fee! Really? Charging $20.00 to spend money in your store!? How greedy! The gift card policy is really stupid as the store just lost $200.00 that would have been spent there and as a non-member, I couldn't have used the card anyway. What are you thinking? read more

I love Sam's Club. I also love this Sam's Club. I am a Buy in bulk junkie! Parking is always plentiful, Gas is priced great (lines are long sometimes), and I love the skip the lines phone check out! I often use the pick up option though because I tend to spend $400 every time I walk inside. The employees are always very nice. I even got my new tires there this year and was very pleased with my pricing. read more

Associates are very helpful and accommodating. Prices are great compared to local grocery stores. I love the scan and go feature. Do most of my shopping here, just wish the motorized scooter baskets were larger to accommodate large purchases and bigger size packages. read more

Not a "local" business but it serves it's purpose. I only stop here for select food items. We received a free membership, so why not try it. We were impressed by the food options - so much more variety than BJs Wholesale Club. They seem to cater to those having a party or have a large families. Typically when we buy food from here, we will share portions of it or we're brining the food to a party. A removed a star because the parking layout / in and out of the lot is a bit chaotic every time we go. And - not sure why, but every time we have been there, there has been an aisle that has spilled product...so frustrating for the staff and customers I'm sure The quality of the food offerings and the expiration dates have been great. That means, they are rotating stock correctly and or ordering and selling things with great level of frequency. Love that! We LOVE LOVE LOVE the app where you can scan the products as you go with your cell phone and then pay from your phone. Once you have paid via the app, it gives you an OCR code that is scanned by the "receipt checker" person as you walk out. That's amazing!!!! We will keep coming back for that reason. I would share some of my favorite products, but every time I do, they sell out, so I am not going to share :) I like this Sam's and when our free membership expires, were are seriously considering paying for a membership. read more

I have been shopping at Sam's since I was a kid. It's great, it doesn't matter the area or even the state your in Sam's are always consistently set up the same way and run just about the same. To save at Sam's you do need a membership if you have a family or a few folks your buying for I think it's worth it. We usually shop here every 3-6 weeks but things in bulk and when we run out we head back. You will also find gas is typically 8-10 cents a gallon cheaper at Sam's. read more

The Sam's is much like any other you'll find across the country. You can buy things in bulk when it makes sense to, sometimes you can find some pretty great deals, and if you use their scan and go app you don't even have to go through the checkout process you can do it entirely on your phone. My one gripe with this location is the parking. It's a bit of a cluster. Entrance to the parking lot gets tied up in traffic when people are leaving and it's quite a frustrating situation. So much so that my husband will not drive when we're going to Sam's. Huge bonus is the discount on gas. And their chicken salad is made from leftover rotisserie chickens. I also love Driscolls berries, and they stay stocked with them year-round. read more

I made an appointment for tires approx. A month ago here and came in for my appointment time and didn't get seen until 8:45 which is 45 mins. After my appointment time and then went for a walk and did some shopping and it's been 3 hours....car isn't done yet. They had 2 tech's call out and only had 1 until 11:30 when other ones come in and just thinking...Hey...maybe you should call someone else in early on friggin Black Friday!!! Sam's is go to place to buy stuff in bulk. We love buying some produce and other stuff from this store. It's fresh and priced right. During this visit, I got 4 set of new Goodyear Assurance All Weather tires. To my surprise, these tires are so good, the drive handling is excellent and the noise level is minimal. So far very satisfied with the purchase. The tire section employee is very friendly and helpful, "Zackry" (sorry if I misspelled the name) was very helpful and did the tire swap, rotation and balancing in 45 mins. Good job! I got a Sam's membership on Groupon for $25 because why not? It includes a free pizza and the pizza is GIGANTIC and actually quite tasty. Luckily you can activate the membership on your phone and use the Sam's app as your membership card, so you NEVER have to go to the service desk (unless you want a physical card). I parked relatively far away because it was so busy. I've been a member of Sam's in the past so I knew what to expect going in. I was surprised to be required to show my membership upon entering. I wasn't prepared for this and fumbled with my phone for a few minutes figuring out the app. Eventually I went in and it was very busy and crowded in terms of products, people and carts. I knew what I was there for so I b-lined it to a few select areas and got in a short line to pay. Despite being the short line it took the longest amount of time compared to the checkouts around me. Eventually I paid and headed towards the door, recipt in hand. I approached the door person and he began to scan random items in my cart and said "have a nice day". I to-this-day don't understand the purpose of scanning 5 or so random items was but I'll roll with it. I drove away forgetting they sell cheap gas (ugh) and went home. Oh, they also didn't have ANY toilet paper or paper towels, that I saw. At the end of the day I won't be going back for a while. I stocked up on pork butts so I don't have a real reason to go back for a bit. read more

I don't know what has happened to the management at this location but the last two times I've gone they have had major issues of the floor (items not tagged, items for sale they don't have but sell and then tell you it's online only, just to see it in store the next trip). Both times they have made excuses (blamed corporate or that the entire state is understaffed?!), only after waiting 10-20 minutes to actually get a supervisor or manager to talk to. Clearly they don't care about their customers. I will be canceling my membership. Yes I need groceries and items but not at the price of having the staff belittle customers, make up answers, make half-hearted excuses, and both times not help on bit. If it takes me more time to deal with issues from their mistakes then it takes me to shop it's a waste of my time. This company does not care and only wants your money. read more

Coming from a larger city, it looked like a seemingly normal Sam's club. I went down the aisles and saw all the normal stuff; candy, fruits, etc. I slowly took my cart around no notice any differences from my past experiences and the store just seemed a bit smaller than I was used to. I suddenly noticed that it was particularly more empty than other Sam's clubs I had been in. Actually, looking around I only saw 2 other people! Wooooowwwww....this is the most empty I had ever seen. I continue down to the frozen food area. OH! there's a free sample person. I stroll over to check out what tasty treat they had. Ice cream? Hot pockets? My imagination flourished. I reached out and was astounded that the sample I had acquired contained two full pieces of chicken nuggets AND a small chunk of pizza. Can't beat $1.70 hot dogs and soda for a cheap and quick lunch. Got the student membership which was a regular membership ($40) with a $15 giftcard. Like any other Sam's; buy in bulk. Debit cards, cash, and Amex only; no Visas. Annoying. Although, they need to take the packs of Starbucks bottled frappucinos off the shelves.. they have been expired since Feb 6, 2012.. so check your expiration dates before you buy! I finally kicked Sam's Club to the curb a few months ago. I was getting increasingly tired of their lackluster service, grubby store (doesn't anyone EVER mop the floor and wash the grocery carts?) and frequently non-competitive prices. In the end their timing was extra bad: I was waiting for the annual Christmas wire edged ribbons to come available before making a decision. The ribbons showed up the same week that I had to return three separate perishable food items because the packaging was damaged. Call me fussy but I like milk with the seal intact. I bought my ribbon and then combined the last return transaction with a membership cancellation request. Such a depressing place and such depressed looking employees; I'm not sure why I continued going there. read more

It's a store where you buy in bulk. The prices are cheaper than BJ's and that's exciting news. The customer service is great and the staff are helpful. This review is concerning the Tire Shop at Sam's in Scarborough. I've never seen a more disorganized operation. To begin with, we were at the store and wanted a quote and an appointment for 4 tires. No one was at the desk and after waiting about 10 minutes, went to the front desk where they paged for a tire associate. Again we waited and no one came so we decided to do some shopping and check on the way out. On our way out, someone was at the desk helping another customer with a complaint about the service so we waited another 10-15 minutes. Finally, we gave the man our info and he had a hard time trying to find us a quote. We left with a quote and later found out he had given us a quote for the wrong tire size. I decided to call from home instead. I called 3 times. The first two times no one answered and I got a sorry we are all busy message. The third time I got a person. I gave him my tire sizes and requested a quote. As he was getting this, the front desk called, and without even putting the phone on mute, he commenced arguing with the associate about a problem he was having ( and he was totally rude with the person). She hung up and he asked if I was still there and I said yes. He started again and a customer came in, so he stopped and helped this customer first, then asked again if I was still there and I said yes. As he started again, someone came in from the back with a question and he rudely said to me (after I'd been on the phone for almost 20 minutes), you'll have to call back in about half an hour. I'm too busy to help you right now. Really?? I hung up and called another tire company and had an answer and an appointment on the same day in less than 5 minutes. I'm wondering if it took this much time and effort to get a quote, how long would it have taken to get the tires installed? If you value your time, don't waste it here!! read more

This is a great place to shop, they have lots of seasonal items long before anyone else does. This gives business the opportunity to stock upon these items before they are available everywhere at much more money. If you find the right people in the building they are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They have a good core group of people. Excellent buys on groceries, clothes, pet supplies,furniture, office supplies, tires, the best meat and produce around, tires, tire services and free samples! And soooo much more! I use my Sam's Club membership mostly for gas purchases. It's always cheaper than regular gas stations and I would rather save my pennies and drive a bit farther to get gas. I buy certain things in bulk because it just makes more sense to do so. I'm an admitted cheerio addict so getting 2 huge boxes for about $5 is a pretty amazing deal, considering one small box at Hannaford is almost $4. I will also come here for the chicken. The price per pound is much better than other stores and I can get a ton. It's enough to last the two of us for a few months. I also can get good produce in a large quantity and it forces me to eat healthier because I don't want it to go bad. I'm a sucker for the bags of avocados, baby cucumbers and baby carrots. My favorite part of this Sam's Club is when they added self-check out lanes. No more waiting in long lines or having to deal with cashiers. As long as I'm not buying booze, I can scan my own items, pay and be on my way. I can't go 5 stars because of their weird payment rules. I can use my Visa but only if it is a debit card, it doesn't make a bit of sense. For the longest time, Sam's Club would only accept Discover cards and at least now they've branched out to accepting Mastercard. I'm just waiting for the day when I can use my Visa credit card to buy gas or groceries. read more
