My first time trying this place out. Finding the entrance can be confusing as it is inside the building on the first floor hidden back. The food.. for what I got.. i mean i didn't think I asked for BURNT home fries.. for $4.00 i'd rather have skipped on this. The french onion sandwich was okay. I wouldn't order either of these again. Big love to Cote's! For all the businesses downtown, there really aren't that many quick breakfast and lunch spots. Cote's fills in a nice niche, and they are incredibly friendly and kind. The owner learns every regulars name and order. The breakfast burrito is fantastic - probably the best fast breakfast downtown. 100% the best team of people in the Portland service industry. Walking in, you get greeted by not only a cheerful woman working the register, but the entire kitchen as well. The aromas of peppers and onion grilled on the flattop enter your nostrils as you breathe in the friendly atmosphere. Their breakfast burrito is enormous, and everything is so fresh. As the eggs are cooked to order, they are warm and delicious. Try this place out. We were looking for a good place to have lunch while shopping. We decided to try this place based on reviews. It's inside a large office building so not readily able to see but it's there in the lower level. The menu offered a variety of breakfast and lunch items. I had the grilled cheese on sourdough bread and the tomato bisque soup. Both were really good! At first I thought - it's grilled cheese - can't mess that up or make it great but I was wrong - it was a really good grilled cheese and the tomato bisque had a great flavor and texture. My wife tried the buffalo chicken Mac and Cheese - it was a home run - very tasty and very flavorful. The soup comes with biscuits which are a cheddar biscuit with herbs - also very tasty. Best hidden gem deli in town! Customer service is amazing and all the sandwiches, soups, and salad bar are AMAZING !!!!

Folks that work here are great, salad bar is great, always quick to get food out even when they're slammed. My only complaint is: you can order add-on toppings to the salad bar. There are a few different chicken options, and they basically are all the same, really watered down mayo combinations that all look like cat food. The portions are also really inconsistent - sometimes I've gotten huge scoops, other times just a spoonful. I'll have to try some of their other options, because it all sounds great. read more

So how is it possible that the staff at Cote's is always so unfailing happy, friendly, and cheerful? This little hidden gem (and yes, it is hidden in the bowels of the TD Bank building) went from totally-unknown-to-me to lunchtime go-to. And it isn't just the friendly service that gets me. They also boast: A small, but serviceable salad bar. A mac and cheese of the day (yes, you heard that right! The buffalo chicken mac is my personal fave) Rotating soup selections Lovely little biscuits that come with the soup. All manner of sandwich, rice bowl, or burrito options. And such good giant soft cookies. The other day I got a lemon thyme one, which I couldn't resist because that seemed like such a weird good flavor and it did indeed live up to my expectations. Not your average office building cafe. Best homemade soup in town. Served with a sublime biscuit.

This is one of my favorite lunch places in Portland. The prices are reasonable, the food is really good and the customer service is some of the best around. If you go there enough, they will remember your name and greet you warmly. It makes all the difference sometimes. Everything is homemade and it shows. There are usually two new soups every day. I always check the website because they will post their daily soups and the mac and cheese of the day. The variety of soups is wonderful. I had the Southwest Chicken and Lime soup today. It was spicy and I'm glad I got the warning before buying it. The soups are always flavorful and well seasoned. I haven't had a bad one yet! Plus, they give you a freshly baked savory biscuit to dunk in your soup. They have freshly prepared sandwiches. I'm partial to the chicken salad or the curry chicken salad. It's really tasty and you can go for either a wrap or a selection of breads. I highly recommend the burrito bowls. For around $8, you can get a big container of rice, lettuce, beans, sour cream and your meat of choice. You can also get them meat-free and they are just as good. There are a bunch of add-ons for an extra fee including guacamole, extra sour cream, and roasted corn. The burrito bowls are so filling and it's money well spent. I have yet to try the salad bar. It's pay per pound and they have a variety of container sizes so you can get a big salad or a little side salad. The veggies all look fresh and there is plenty of variety to make any kind of salad you like. Breakfast is pretty straightforward. I like that you can get a bagel with cream cheese for about $2. If you aren't a cream cheese fanatic, I would recommend asking for it to be on the side because they will give you a ton. They cook eggs to your specifications and they aren't microwaved, but cooked on a real stove! What a novelty! Be aware that this place will be crowded during early morning hours and lunchtime. You may have to wait in line, but it will move quickly. I highly recommend stopping by 1 Portland Square and trying it out! I promise it won't disappoint. read more

Cote's Café is simply the best! We do a great deal of catering at our company and the food is consistently fresh, delivered timely, and delicious. Aside from catering, their regular menu has lots to choose from for lunch and breakfast. The burritos and burrito bowls are great and the salad bar, specialty sandwiches, and homemade soups are awesome. As great as the food is, the best thing about Cote's is the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Don't be surprised if they know your name the next time you visit them! read more

This is seriously the best place to get lunch in the city. I work downtown and it is hard to find restaurants that consistently have good food at a reasonable price. Most lunch spots are busy in downtown and the service is usually awful during lunch but Jason and the rest of the crew are always genuinely nice and provide the best customer service that I have seen in Portland. Everything tastes fresh and the homemade items are really great. The breakfast sandwiches are also really good and beat the microwaved eggs you get at most other sandwich shops downtown. read more

Cote's is a truly lovely lunch spot in downtown portland. They have many options, and can accommodate for any dietary restrictions that I can think of. Everything I have seen come out of their kitchen looks delicious and fresh. As a vegan, there are many options for me, although I have only gotten the veggie burrito bowl without dairy (sour cream and cheese). It is so delicious I can't bring myself to order anything else! All of the veggies are flavourful, and taste freshly made. The serving is hearty, and sure to power you through the rest of the workday.
