Cotija Mexican Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Sheridan, Arkansas

I have lived in Sheridan all my life, and it is only fairly recently that we had ANY Mexican restaurant in town. We now have both Cotija and El Parian (along with a couple of food trucks occasionally), but this naturally brings me to compare the 2 brick and mortar stores. In my opinion, El Parian is by FAR the better restaurant! The food at Cotijas is decent, if you had no other options, but the staff is MUCH less personable and friendly!!! They are very dismissive and stand-off ish towards patrons! If you need any refills, or anything after you get your meal, you might as well get up and go over to a waiter and ask! read more

If you want good Mexican food and good friendly service staff that knows what they are doing, just go down the road to El Parian because this place is a joke. I went in with my my two friends for a light lunch. We did not order a lot and were only one of two tables in the establishment at the time. First, I had ordered chicken tacos and was given beef. I was originally going to just keep the beef but it was very watery and had a lot of filler like potato and onion. I know that may be authentic I just don't like it. So I did ask the owner(because she was closest to our table) politely if I could get the chicken tacos I had originally ordered, and I had not taken a bite of the beef ones yet. She snatched them up and then I was accused of not ordering chicken even though the other two people I was with clearly heard me. I let it go..... THEN my friend ordered a bean burrito, before her food came out she had to take a call from her boss. So when food arrived the waitress also brought out a side of beans and then when she was off of her call she asked if we had ordered them and we of course thought she did so as we were trying to figure out why we got a side of beans the owner came over to our table and proceeds to chew us out as if we were children because we accepted the beans..... like I was embarrassed for the lady after she acted like this. THEN she takes the beans off of our table(they had been there over 5 minutes at least) and gives them directly to the table they were suppose to go to without making them a fresh plate. I will not tolerate this kind of behavior from a grown women so yes I did say my piece in the terms of hey..... if you and your staff knew what y'all were doing none of this would have happened and THIS is the reason you get a fraction of the business El Parian does. As El parians staff is always inviting and willing to fix the mistakes they make.... If they even make one. So DONT go here. It's just a couple miles down the road north of town. The food is good. Service is not so good. Do not sit on left side of restaurant as service is very poor. Will take your order and bring the food and bill and that is all of service. Don't bring refills. If you ask for lemon that was not in your tea when ordered you can forget it. If you ask for extra napkins when meal is delivered you can forget it. Cotija Mexican Restaurant is a decent option in Sheridan and one of the better Mexican restaurants in south Arkansas. The salsa is different and has more of a lime taste than a sweet tomato taste. The two times I have ate here, I have had the Burrito Jessica and Enchiladas Rancheras. Well, sometimes you have to make a sacrifice and the sacrifice you have to make at Cotija is the amount of food you get for the price. The price is really affordable but both times I have walked out feeling like I needed more. My burrito and enchiladas were pretty small. They do season their meat really well though. It isn't bland at all compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. Both were covered with cheese dip which is always good. My waiter was very helpful but the one complaint I really have against is Cotija is that my sweet tea tasted very fruity. I told the waiter about it and he looked like he didn't know what I was talking about ha. He brought me another one but it didn't taste any different. The restaurant does feel like a Mexican restuarant, is pretty decorative, and is clean. If you want affordable and pretty good Mexican, Cotija is great if you live in the Sheridan area. But if you are a hefty eater, I would suggest somewhere else because you will feel like your portions are too small. Or you just need to eat a lot of salsa and chips. read more

I like the salsa and queso. The food is flavorful and the restaurant is neat and clean. Service is polite and speedy. Prices are very affordable. I live in Sheridan and there is another Mexican food restaurant in town but Cotija is my hands down favorite of the two. I like the atmosphere more and the food is just better. We've been eating at Cotija's in Sheridan since they were in a little old convenience store building just north of town. They're hard working folks with good food at reasonable prices. It's rare that I've ever been disappointed in anything I've ordered there, and between my family and I, I'm sure we've tried most of the menu. It is somewhat typical Mexican fare, but service is always good, food arrives quickly and hot, and if you have special dietary needs, you can ask them to serve something in a different way. The restaurant building itself (now in the old Fiser grocery store building) is always clean, pleasantly decorated and laid out. It's not so dark that you can't see the menu or your food. Facilities are roomy and accommodating. Prices are fair, too. read more
