This is my go-to spot when I roadtrip down to SoCal! I didn't realize that I haven't wrote a review for Cotija Taco Shop yet. I've been stopping here every time I go to SoCal these past couple years now. I always stop in Los Baños for Dutch Bros, Cotija, and bathroom break at either Marshall's or Target. Lol This spot has some delicious tacos, nachos, carne asada fries, and more. My most recent visits was with my boyfriend a few weeks ago. We stopped by here on the way to SoCal and back! They do have a few tables outside where you can enjoy your food. There were times when I just took it to my car to eat so I can listen to my podcast. Lol The staff there are friendly, and they have a couple of parking spots too. I've also parked on the street as well in other times that I visited. My parents discovered this place and kept saying they have the best tacos, so I knew I had to see if they were right. I ordered the asada tacos as well as a cabeza taco. We also got a side of chips with came with both salsa and guac. I thought the asada tacos were very good, and I always love when they already come with avocado on it. The meat was very tender. I thought the cabeza taco was good, however, it was definitely very oily and not very neat to eat. The side of chips with guac was good, I felt the salsa was too watery. I have had their Carne Asada nachos many times as we travel on Hwy 152 and it was always the best, however, on our way home from the Bay Area I really wanted to drive into the city to get a carnitas burrito from my all time favorite place in SF called Gordo's but then I saw a post by beli_eats who ranked Taqueria San Bruno #5 out of the top 12 U.S. burritos but after leaving our appointment in Foster City and traffic building on Hwy 101, discretion was the better part of valor so we stopped here and I made the mistake of ordering a carnitas nacho which wasn't as good as the carne asada. c'est la vie, better luck next time! read more

We got our tacos to go. I ordered carnitas sopes and carnitas tacos. The food looked like it was slopped on the plate. The sopas were soggy and no flavor. The tacos were better but very greasy. The store was clean and the employees were friendly. I have just had better food. read more

Wow, these tacos were amazing! Great find in Los Banos and definitely recommend making a taco stop here if you're visiting or passing through Los Banos. All the meats were delicious, especially the chorizo and carne asada. Great price and generous portions, too! The salsa was tasty, too. We may have ordered too many tacos but it was so good we devoured it all. It's an interesting place - it's like a little hut/house on the corner of the street and you order through the little window. Btw there's only patio seating but it's all covered, so you'll be shaded from the sun or rain. I'm still dreaming of these delicious tacos! Upon first glance Cotija's might not look like much... a rusty old shack on the side of the road in a town in the middle of nowhere. However upon second glance, Cotija's is much. Much more... Upon our arrival we greeted by a kind young man. We ordered, two burritos, a special #4 and two drinks. It came out very quickly and tasted exquisite. The burritos were large and fresh the special was very delicious. They had tables and the ambiance reminded me of back home in Mexico. Very classic, very tastful, very demure & very mindfull. Here in Los Banos, most and for sure the best Mexican food comes from stands. I have yet to try them all but this one hits the spot and is definitely better than the Mexican food in Florida. Food: I ordered the shrimp a la diabla burrito, al pastor quesadilla, and a chile relleno. The shrimp a la diabla burrito was DENSE, even though it looked to be on the medium side. The shrimp were seasoned and cooked perfectly, making this burrito spicy and very savory, would def order again. The tortilla is on the doughy side which I love. The al pastor quesadilla is massive and made with the same tortilla. The al pastor meat again was flavorful and savory. They're red hot sauce is a great addition but be careful if you don't like it too spicy. Lastly, the chile relleno. The chile had that chile taste and gooey cheesey texture I enjoy, but the breading was a bit much, and it was drowned in sauce. Maybe that's how they eat them around here? Service: As mentioned before this is a stand, you order and receive your order through a window in the stand. My order took around 7 mins with 2 orders ahead of me. Location: This stand is a bit more comfortable than others as there are covered tables for outdoor seating. There's also plenty of parking. For a taco stand, what more can you ask for? read more

found this small taco shop on the way to Yosemite and let me tell youuuuuu, the tacos hit every craving. You order at a small window and there is a small outdoor seating area with some shade the guy at the window made some great recommendations and I'm glad I trusted him! I got the asada and chicken tacos. they each had a generous portion of meat and were so high quality. Perfect stopping place after stupid traffic leaving San Jose on our way to Shaver Lake. Next to a western boot store and a tattoo parlor. Sit outside at tables under a cover. Lady taking our order was super friendly and nice. Fish Friday! $30 including $5 tip fed us all! Quesadilla was HOMEMADE flour tortilla. YOM NOMS. Fish tacos were good, shrimp tacos a little skimpy. My boyfriend came to Cotija Taco Shop a few weeks ago on 7/14/19 as we coming back from seeing Shawn Mendez concert. As he frequently passes through Los Banos he always Raves about this place and we decided to try this place on the hottest day of the summer. This place is a little bright orange-red place located on a corner in Los Banos. It's so good that even police officers stopped by to grab a bite to eat. They have a good selection of options which the dude and I opted for Nachos so we can share. I have to say that the chicken nachos were so bomb and the horchata that we go was gross though as it didn't taste like the real dead. I was a happy camper with my meal as the meat was very flavorful and everything on the nachos were tasty. My mouth is watering thinking about this place. No indoor seating as there is only outdoor seating. Since it was hot we opt to eat inside the car. If you are wanting a yummy meal traveling through Los Banos I would highly recommend this place. It is delicious. The dude who took our order was friendly and kind and a lot of people were coming. Not to say the reviews on yelp speaks volumes. I live in SF area but my extended fam lives in the Oakhurst, Clovis area ... so you know the drill. About once a month I'm looking for cheap, cheerful and FAST eats in Los Banos. Most of Los Banos is a desert of generic chain food places but this Taco Joint always stands out on Yelp. It just so happens that it stands out for good reasons! Although it is a tiny hole in the wall, the food here is packed with flavor and fast service. We tried several carne asada dishes, including this tasty carb filled piece of heaven called Carne Asada fries. (See pic below) Deducted one star for the "funky" outdoor seating. I say funky but, well, others might say unmaintained. The seat below was also broken on my last visit 12 months ago! Nonetheless, we plan to carbo load on those luscious fries on a future trip. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the from. It's a small little restaurant with outdoor seating only. I had the shredded beef taquitos. They were fresh, crispy and moist. I met up with the bff for lunch. She had a craving for tacos, so she suggested this spot. I've driven by this place many times, but never bothered to stop by and check out the food. I ordered the taquitos because I saw the photos on yelp and just had to get them! It looked soo good! Even better, it tasted just as good! They had lettuce, tomato, cheese, and guacamole toppings on it. I also ordered a horchata as well. I love the crunchy-ness of the taquitos. Fresh off the stove. The place looks like a house with an outdoor patio. Menu is on the side of the window where you order. They do accept card now, so if you don't have cash, that's ok. Parking is very limited. Only a few cars can fit in the lot. They share the lot with another business across from them. They do have street parking available.
