I brought my truck in quite certain that something was wrong with the was wrong with the transmission. I dropped it off about 10:30 and by 12:30 the gentleman had called me to let me know that my transmission wasn't the issue but a number of other things that he was able to diagnose, but, unfortunately, he does not do that type of work. He didn't charge me a dime to provide me with the information to take to another mechanic. In a world full of people taking advantage of others and this ENDLESS tip culture that we have become, I was amazed and impressed at this business's gracious attitude of customer service. My transmission was having major problems and I had to have my truck towed here. I called prior to the tow and they told me that they would try to look at it before the weekend. It's incredibly rare to find a place in an industry like this that will be as helpful, accommodating, and up-front with you about issues they could otherwise make quick money off of. I've been working with Roy the past few weeks on what has turned out to be a major transmission issue. To begin, he was very flexible and understanding with working around warranty company complexities. More importantly, however, once he began work and was able to see the actual issue was something more severe than anticipated (and as a result, what I asked him to do would not fix the problem), he stopped and promptly relayed everything to me. Even though actually fixing the issue will require a different shop's involvement, and thus the shop had no financial incentive to gain, he took the time to explain the issues thoroughly and provide advice going forward. We had to have the clutch replaced in our 2004 Hyundai and these guys did a great job. After they had confirmed our diagnosis of a faulty clutch, I was given a quote to replace it and told that it would be finished late on the following day. To my pleasant surprise, I received a call from them first thing in the morning on the next day telling me that they had worked late the day before and that my car was ready to be picked up. The cost was exactly what they had quoted me. Basically, the completed the repair earlier than expected and at their exact quoted price. In addition, every person I spoke to there was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The next time one of our cars needs a repair, we will definitely go back to Cottman. read more

Very honest guy in Ray! Checked out my Porsche and could have easily made up charges since I know my transmission has been slipping every few weeks. There was no charge for the diagnosis and although I had my clutch fixed at another location where I had a line of credit available, they treated me as though I were a paying customer. 5 stars! Cottman transmission is exactly as several other reviewers have described. I called about my GMC 211,000 mile terrain's slipping transmission and they said to bring it in and they would do a complete diagnostic to determine what, if any was the issue (The diagnostic is completely FREE!). After the diagnostic they said the transmission had been slipping but that it wasn't showing up as error codes yet. They checked the fluid levels and found it to be low. The then filled it up and sent me on my way! Roy was nice from they start, totally professional and was actually happy to share that I didn't have a transmission problem. He then said to come back in about 100 miles and they would check it again to see if fluid low again (meaning could be an actual problem) and that they would be glad to fix it, should it come to that. We had such a refreshing experience with Cottman. I have a 2003 Chrysler T&C with 120K miles that we are trying to keep going for a bit more. I recently had ANOTHER check engine light come on and happened to be driving past an Advance Auto parts - they hooked up the machine and told me it was a transmission code. Quick background - we have had to completely rewire the car and get two new computers in recent years, so we never know if it is a true problem or a short in the wiring. I dreaded going to the dealership (who put the last computer in in April) bc it took them days to even look at the car last time and it is $100 no matter what, so I called AAA and they suggested Cottman's. My husband and I dropped the car at 9am. They called at 11am to tell me they were finished! It was not transmission - but bc the car is such a mess they could not tell if it was wiring or relay, so they did a fix that would tell me which it was if we had problems again (the transmission and ac relays are exactly the same - so they switched them and said if I have ac problems it is relay, if I have transmission problems again it is wiring). And here is the amazing part - they did not charge me a dime! They said it was an easy fix and they advertise that they will investigate check engine lights for free. I was blown away - so refreshing! I tried to give them something and they would not take it, so the least I can do it help tell people what a great shop this it. Cottman tried to fix my transmission, but they didn't fix it completely and now they say they "can't find the problem," even though they identified and pointed out the exact slippage while quoting me a price. There was an additional problem that they introduced while trying to fix my transmission. They removed the o2 sensor so they could work on the transmission, but forgot to screw the o2 sensor back in when they were done. Because of their negligence, I drove my car with a non-functioning o2 sensor for two weeks, which caused my catalytic converter to fail. Now, Cottman refuses to admit that they caused my catalytic converter to fail. They say, "we don't do exhaust work," and that may be true, but they DID remove the o2 sensor when trying to repair the transmission, as it was necessary to remove to work on the transmission. They just forgot to put it back in when they were done. Do not listen to this company when they say that their number one goal is to ensure 100% customer satisfaction, because that is a lie. They haven't done anything to try and remedy the problem they have caused. Even the owner RIck refused to offer to fix the problems they caused to my catalytic converter by leaving the o2 sensor out. All he did was argue with me and tell me I was wrong. Beware. read more
