I contacted RK early this morning for emergency repairs on my car. Unfortunately, they were not able to help me within my particular time constraints but in the spirit of total customer service, they called back to offer the name of one of their competitors. We are here in Raleigh, passing through on our way to Carolina shores. I scoured the directory and phoned RK. I relayed my dilemma and met with a courteous and concerned response. The fact that they went out of their way to help us has made me customer for ever. I am moving to Carolina shores and will travel the two hours to have my car serviced by such a professional company. Amazing people but not good business. This shop does not accept any payment from insurance or warranty companies. THEY DO NOT! They hold that right as business owners, which I understand completely. One of their staff members was not aware of this and it was not until after a $120 diagnostic that I was notified they don't accept payments from insurance/warranty companies. I explained to the owner that I had multiple phone calls with this staff member about using my warranty company as payment. Staff is not educated on the shops policy and client is bitting the bullet! We were visiting Raleigh from SC when our car could not be put into gear while waiting in line at the Costco gas pumps (nightmare). Before the tow truck driver arrived we assumed the worst either having to rebuild or replace a transmission in a 2008 Toyota Sienna van which would have been between $3,000-$6,000 based on the research I conducted while waiting. The tow truck driver indicated he thought it was a broken transmission cable which costs about $300 without labor. Robert was able to replace bushings which was all that was needed for a little over $200 and help to get us on our way back to SC. If we didn't live 4 hours away RK would be our new "go to" for auto repairs in the future. I highly recommend them. read more

I dropped my car off on Monday and told them I needed it for my wife's mom's funeral that weekend and we needed it by Friday. They said they'd try. They didn't. On Friday morning they didn't even have the part yet. We had to rent a car for $200. I spoke to Rob who could clearly care less whether the car was finished or we had to rent a car. He said he'd call Monday. He called Wednesday. They told me their credit card machine was broken to get me to pay cash. When I told them they can still take a credit card payment over the phone they said they would only take cash/cashier's check. This was after all the work was done and it totaled over $2400. When I asked for my old parts back as is my right they said I'd have to pay a fee to the junkyard to get them. When I got to the shop the actual owner of the shop Pat helped me load the transmission into my trunk. He also gave us $100 since we had a coupon and had already made the cashier's check for the full amount. The only reason this horrible company is still in business is probably because the last thing people see and the last person people speak to is Pat. He's a really friendly, nice man and it's sad he has to put up with rip-off artists like RK. In addition to all this, on every review site that I posted on, the same person posted a 5 star review on the exact same day. This person is friends with the owners on Facebook. She knows them personally. The owners asked her to post a good review to counteract my bad review. That is beyond underhanded. It's just sad. Update: The car was still having problems, brought it back, they fixed it. Spoke to the owner face-to-face, we both apologized for it getting out of control. The review would be higher but I'm still out $2400 cash. No amount of 'making up' is going to give me my money back. And the only reason I'm out that money is because the owner decided to make it personal. I'm glad the car's working and I'm glad I talked it out with the owner but I still want my cashier's check back and there's nothing that can fix that... Also, they seem to have friends and family pad their rating with random reviews right around the time of my bad review. That's wrong and defeats the point of a rating system. read more

He was more concerned about helping me than just taking my hard earned cash. His prices are fair considering how conscientious he is and how he takes pride in doing a good job! I was convinced I had a transmission problem, and brought my 2007 Pontiac G6 here for repair. Turns out I was wrong, but they diagnosed the problem and fixed it, which I think saved me a lot of money. They did it quickly, and made sure I was happy before I drove away. I was very happy - it was like driving a new car again! I'm not going to go into details, but something happened that gave me great respect for their honesty and integrity as a company. Once again a wonderful experience at their shop. Our Toyota Sienna blew the oil cooler line and was towed there. The guys there worked it in the schedule and let me know what the issue was. They worked up an estimate and performed the fix in a timely manner letting us know what was happening the entire time. My daughter who is a sophmore at NC State brought her car in to have her battery changed. He said she had something else wrong and kept changing what was wrong. Then told her that she needed a new computer put in for $900 or she wouldn't pass inspection. We told him we would bring it back home where we live to our place. He charged us $449 to put a battery in. Our place inspected it and said she does not need a new computer and she got ripped off when he saw the invoice sitting on her front seat. He couldn't believe that they were taking advantage of a college kid and her parents. So instead of approx $1400 it cost they charged us $30 for the inspection. This place is highway robbery!!! I sent him numerous emails and texts that we should be refunded something and he ignored every one. Never had one response back from him. Total Joke. read more

Being a woman in her mid twenties, I've always found it difficult to find an honest mechanic who didn't try to rip me off or "pull a fast one on me." I can honestly say I have never felt more at ease and comfortable with taking my car anywhere than when I stumbled on R.K. I recently had some car trouble and found out it was my transmission. Rob at RK Trans Auto Repair went above and beyond to answer any and all questions I had regarding the issue with my car and what he could do to help me. I got estimates at my regular mechanic in Durham and an estimate from Rob since I work in Raleigh. My regular mechanic does not specialize in transmission work but they were able to replace it for me. Rob quoted me a price about $1,000 less than what they were charging to rebuild my transmission instead of just replacing it. After driving it around now for several weeks I have been nothing but pleased. I even took my car back for a tune up about a week or so later because i had such a good experience with the transmission work. I feel 100% confident that I can contact Rob with any help or questions if I need to in the future. I am currently 7 months pregnant and he really made both myself and my husband feel at ease with the already stressful situation. I would recommend him to anyone.
