The food was simple and good! I'm a big fan of grilled vegetables and beef and they'd prepared it like 'la mamma' does... Yummy! The house wine was good as well.. :) We'd planned to have just a quick meal and then go to bed as we had to take the ferry at 7am the next morning, but the owner and waiter (the owner's son) were so nice that we stayed till late chatting... We'd noticed Trattoria Familiare along the way, and it seemed just the sort of place we had in mind to get something to eat. We easily found it again, now open after "siesta", and were warmly greeted by Michele and Iolanda. We weren't looking for the greatest food in the world, but delicious it was, all home made, and according to Michele, their own family recipes. But more than anything else, I enjoyed the experience of this wonderful little place. We were treated as if old friends, and Michele not only epitomized the friendliness we experienced with the people of Sicily, but he brings a level of humor, enthusiasm (and salesmanship) that makes me want to come back. The traveler may visit grand places, but more often than not, it's the little adventures we hold the closest. I don't know if we will ever get back to Palermo, but of all the amazing places we saw, and experiences we had there, this is one I will always remember.
