We made it inside the Cotton Bowl to attend the Dallas Trinity Womens Soccer game. We had been to the fair grounds before for other events so we knew where we were going. What was unfortunate was the confusion with the pre-paid parking. It sent us one direction and the grounds attendants weren't helpful in guiding us. After driving around for a bit, we found a place to park and they never scanned our parking pass or collected money. (Next time we'll just head there and see where we can park rather than pre-pay). It was easy to get to the Cotton Bowl itself as they had clear signage to direct you to one side of the stadium for entry. While it is a nostalgic stadium, you realize how we've grown accustomed to more modern amenities (e.g. seats with backs, restrooms that are easy to navigate in/out without steps). The concessions were right in the front when you entered and easy to navigate. read more

Going to an event at this venue reminded me of why I stopped going to public sporting events. This is not an easy place to get to, so plan on a hefty walk! The parking staff left our driver driving in circles, while he was trying to figure out where to drop us off and even the drop-off point was an empty parking lot away from the building. Luckily, we had an easy in, scan your bags and get a drink! Unfortunately, ordering off the concession stand menu is like a playing a game of jeopardy, place your order in the form of a question since there is no guarantee they are even offering it at the time. Although they claim to serve wine, they didn't yet it remains on the menu. So, on with the scavenger hunt from stand to stand for wine, wouldn't it just make sense to simply cross what you don't serve off of the menu and save us a few miles in that sweatbox? At this venue you learn to settle, bud light or a can of seltzer, take your pick. Either way you pay, over a dollar an ounce with a limit of 2 per passenger. Coldplay was great, loved the show. Consider saving a bottle of water and looking for a buggy ride for the after show exit, the walk seems even longer on the way out.. Cheers! read more

I liked the layout of the stadium. I was in the nosebleed section, but they still had hand rails up there. I needed the assistance because of a knee problem. Getting in and out of the stadium was pretty easy with ramps and stairs that were very wide. We did take an elevator up to the 3rd level which helped. The ticket takers were nice enough to show me to the elevator when I arrived. The Rolling Stones concert was awesome in the stadium. They set up the stage on about the 25 yard line and the acoustics were amazing. And by setting up and leaving a section of the stadium empty it allowed them space to shoot off fireworks twice, once during the concert and a grand finale fireworks after the encore. It was a great end to a awesome concert. read more

This is an UPDATE to my previous review. I have been corrected on some of the history. The Dallas Texans were the first Dallas NFL team in 1952, but moved and ceased to exist. In 1960, Lamar Hunt started and new AFL team in Dallas called the Texans. He used his dad's HR director of Hunt Oil Company to sign contracts and help set up the personnel management of the team. The HR director was a yelp elite friend of mine's dad. In 1963, Lamar moved them to KC as he felt he would have more success and renamed them the Chiefs. He also had other operations in KC he was growing. Another oilman, Clint Murchison, started the Cowboys. He and Lamar were good friends, When the AFL and NFL merged and first time Cowboys and Chiefs played each other, his dad took him to the before game party and he got to meet Lamar and Clint. That was Roger Staubach's rookie season and he got to meet him and Len Dawson (his dad signed him). That's the latest and the greatest. I love the history of the bowl and the Cowboys! This place was huge! The parking was extremely well marked and easily accessible. The stadium was well marked and finding our seating was easy. It was great that there were buildings outside of the stadium which housed more bathrooms.. which was nice because you can use them before you actually get into the stadium. y son and I went to the UT vs Oklahoma game on 10/12/2024. The workers they hired at this place were beyond ghetto. We waited in a line for 45 minutes to get water. I witnessed 2 people faint and carried out by ems. When we finally got to the food stand there were 5 people standing around the corn dogs talking. It wasn't just the laziness, but these people went out of their way to not help. Getting to enter the coliseum was a nightmare. When we finally got to the steps I could see why there were so many people jammed in the door. The lazy people scanning tickets were taking their time. There were zero consideration, common courtesy, or competence in one single worker at this place. Both the OK and UT fans said they will never see a game there again. I hope I never even have to go to Dallas Texas again. Bonus highlight: Asshole cops threatened to trample us on horses when the players arrive on buses. read more

I was able to watch about half an hour of the Coldplay: Music of the Spheres World Tour here on May 6th, 2022. With a multi- colored wristband, I had access to the arena floor and front row standing room attendance. For open disclosure: I was working the event and had to check on employees inside the arena, which had it's perks. This was my 1st visit to the Cotton Bowl and 2nd time to FairPark. Since I parked earlier in the day, hours before the concert, I don't have any experience with the parking. But since this stadium holds up to 92,000 people, take a Lyft/Uber or mass transit. Several people lost their way and sense of direction to their parking lot....which is never fun. Now, I haven't even seen Coldplay in a live performance, but Chris Martin and his band mates were amazing. The LED wristbands passed out to all attendees were syronychonized with the music, which was very cool for an almost sold out concert, probably about 90,000 in attendance. With two very big screens on either side of the stage to enhance visual effects, Coldplay rocked the house. From opening song to closing. There were a few inflated balloons floating around and plenty of dancing , aka jumping around in euphoric excitement on the arena floor. I LOVED EVERY SECOND!!! Which after working 12 hours straight without any food or break was an awesome trade off to take in this much beloved band. 5 stars alone for the band's many progressive efforts to make their concerts and touring incredibly green. They used solar mats inside the arena to funnel power for the show. Human power in the form of exercise was also used to feed electricity to power this show, as well. There was two kinetic dance floors and two bicycle stations to power up energy needed. Drinking cups were aluminum for better recycling. Stage material was also considered for better environmental concerns. And after all that, part of the ticket proceeds are being donated to environmental non-profit projects. Their stance is just truly inspiring, thank you Coldplay for setting the woke concert going experience, while creating a truly wonderous world tour frickin awesome!!! read more

The Cotton Bowl in Dallas goes way back and is a a cherished shine in my eyes! On this spot of ground, Texas A&M defeated Centre College 22-14 in the Dixie Classic, Jan 2, 1922. During this game, Texas A&M's 12th man tradition began. The new stadium was built in 1930. The name was officially changed to the Cotton Bowl in 1936. In 1948, a second deck was added to the west side, increasing capacity to 67,000. The east side was double-decked the following year, increasing capacity to 75,504. These decks and distinctive facade superstructure were added to respond to the demand for fans to watch SMU halfback Doak Walker. Thus giving it the nickname as "the house that Doak built." In 1950, in a publicity act to break the Texas League record for opening-day attendance, baseball was played in the Cotton Bowl. It could then hold as many as 75,000. The lineup included former big league stars wearing the Dallas Eagles uniforms. Legendary Ty Cobb and Dizzy Dean were a couple of them. The 54,151 who showed up were lucky enough to see Ty Cobb hit several balls into the stands and Dizzy get ejected from a mock fight. In 1954 Alabama, led by future Green Bay Packer legend Bart Star took on Rice. Rice won the game 28-6, but its victory was overshadowed by Alabama's Tommy Lewis and his "12th man tackle" of Rice running back Dicky Moegle in the second quarter. Tommy wasn't in the game but came illegally off the sideline to save a sure touchdown as Dicky ran in front of him. Many Football legends played here during the Annual Cotton Bowl Classic games including Sammy Baugh, Davy O'Brian, Bobby Layne, Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly, Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Ken Stabler, Joe Theismann, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Doug Flutie, Troy Aikman, Eli Manning, Bo Jackson, and Tim Brown. The Dallas Texans played here from 1960-62 and later moved to become the Kansas City Chiefs. The Dallas Cowboys called this stadium home from 1960 to 1971. The 1967 NFL Championship game was played here between the Cowboys and Packers. The Packers won and went on to Superbowl I to beat the Kansas City Chiefs. In 1968, the old wood benches (which I literally got many splinters from) were replaced by Cowboy Blue and White stadium seats, reducing capacity to 72,032. The Cotton Bowl had many soccer matches including being the home field of the Dallas teams over 30 years plus hosted six matches of the 1994 World Cup. In the 2000s, the renewed dominance of both the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns created a new interest in their rivalry, and the stadium. The 2008 renovations include the expansion of the seating capacity of the stadium from 68,252 to 92,100, new media and VIP facilities, a new scoreboard and video screen, updated restrooms and concession areas, lighting, utility and sound upgrades and the replacement of all the stadium's seats. A new record for attendance was set when 96,009 fans attended the 2009 Texas vs. Oklahoma football game. The Cotton Bowl stadium is a historical stadium, so you obviously aren't going to have the uber modern amenities that new stadiums have. We expected this in advance. We just attended the 2020 Winter Classic here. With 85,000 in attendance, this place was PACKED. Yes, it was a complete shit show trying to get in and to our seats. As a result, we didn't get up AT ALL to get food, drinks or even use the restroom. No way we were going to wait in those lines or fight the crowds. (A guy behind us said it took him 45 minutes to get some hotdogs). We sat on bleacher seats in section 119. The trouble with this type of seating is people tend to encroach your space... plus, I find people tend to squeeze their friends in the row with them, making things even tighter. Next time, maybe we'll get actual seats. As for parking, we bought it in advance with being assigned a certain lot. Ours was Lot 8... so it was a little bit of a walk but not too bad. Location: We usually stay just outside Dallas. The drive to the stadium wasn't bad... until we got near the stadium where traffic was backed up bumper to bumper about 2 miles. Employees all were friendly. All in all, the stadium served it's purpose and we enjoyed watching the game here. We ended up leaving a touch early as to avoid 85,000 people exiting at the same time. Great experience, just expect long lines everywhere. Purchase your tickets/coupons for food and bev online ahead of time and pickup onsite. Way faster than waiting in line. The stadium itself seats about 92k people in minimal shade, bring the sunscreen! Expect older amenities from a stadium, and try to plan your bathroom/beer breaks during off peak game or quarter times. Woohoo! As good as it gets! WOW such a beautiful historical site and who would ever think that the NHL Winter Classis would be played in the Cotton Bowl? As a huge Dallas Stars fan I drove over 600 miles just to attend this event since it was a once in a life time experience. I have read reviews on this place as it is so old and not maintained and if there was another Winter Classic that they wont be attending but then again what is the NHL Winter Classic about? HISTORY of the city the team the game and the location of where it is being played. The city of Dallas has a huge amount of history dating back to the Texas stars and hockey and who can say that the Cotton Bowl has no History? Yes the Cotton bowl is a old stadium but that is where you can embrace all the history of the historical site and leave feeling as you have been apart of Dallas history. There is only one entrance to get in but who cares with 85,630 fans I will take that! It was such a memorable moment where I cant forget! My seats were located on section 143 the second to the last row but still had a fabulous view of the ice and even better if someone was standing cheering "GO STARS" I had the jumbotron next to me. The seats are bleachers with numbers on the seat identifying where you sit. As for the restrooms and food I believe they did a outstanding job serving all 85k fans. I had at least 4 beers and nachos and yes the prices might be a little ridiculous but what do you expect from supply and demand! Everything cant be all fine and super affordable in these events because overall this is a business not your best friend or family serving you. The beers were ice cold and I love the fact they had Trulys there as well! The speaker system was legit even considering I was totally facing the opposite side of Midland and Dan & Shay I had no difficult hearing them and the sound was as good as it gets! Soon enough in the future when the Cotton Bowl does finally get destroyed down and rebuilt everyone who attended this tremendous beauty of art can finally say that " Hey I attended the Cotton Bowl and watched a foot ball game" or " You know what I attended the 2020 NHL Winter Classic and it was awesome at the Cotton Bowl." This was a terrible venue. It started with the parking situation, which IS a situation. Plan on an hour before the show to get a parking spot. Inside, you sit on a very uncomfortable bleacher. My husband sat next to a guy who brought his "service dog" who looked scared the entire show. He also took up a ton of space on the floor in front of us, where there wasn't a lot of leg room to begin with. Coldplay took the stage pretty late and apologized for the horrendous traffic and for being late. They provided very cool watch bands to wear that were synchronized to their music. Their show was fantastic but the acoustics here sucked. At the end of the show, we attempted to exit where we walked in, however, we were made to walk around the entire stadium to get to our parking spot. We asked no less than 5-6 "parking attendants" where lot #13 was located and we were pointed in numerous, wrong, directions. We literally ended up walking 1.5 miles trying to get back to our car. I would not come back here to see a show again. I don't care how good the act is. read more

Trying to get inside (parking) was a nightmare but even more so trying to get out after the Stones concert. They had one gate open when attempting to get out of the stadium and it was a cattle herd. More concerned about catching COVID with how crammed in we were all dealing with. After reaching our car it took a hour to exit the parking lot. I brought my family for the Winter Classic and was disappointed with the facilities. Clearly old and run down, they just weren't prepared for the crowds. The stadium holds 85k. So why arent they ready when. That amount show up? Not sure. Horribly placed bathrooms are right by the ramps and stairs AND food court (which was two alcoves for food.) Crowded to the point that it was unsafe, IMO. The food was terrible. The alcove I went to took over 30 minutes - I missed the opening ceremonies, the National Anthem, and the first 5 minutes of the game and I was in line 20+ minutes before the start time. Totally unacceptable. Why the hold up? Because they had three crock pot looking machines and cooked stuff to order and made people wait to pay until they got their food. So people in the crowd had to wait to order for people in front of them waiting 10 minutes for hotdogs. Even if they just wanted candy and water. Ridiculous. Also, the food sucked. Bad. You got a small bowl of chips and mostly cold cheese sauce for nachos. Popcorn came in what looked to be a 32 oz cup. Everything was between $7-12 each. For six waters, and snacks for my family it was a HUNDRED FREAKING DOLLARS! A joke. A really terrible joke. The good news is that the seats - metal bleachers in the upper deck - weren't bad seats. Good views and not as uncomfortable as expected. I'll never go hear again. Even for another Winter Classic. Oh my dear god! This place is a health and fire hazard. Not only that it is a disorganized chaos but it's hard to bread inside with people feeling up the halls trying to get alcohol. Imagine 93000 Stadium and half of them trying to get beverages. All of them block the movement and you stock with people pushing you and your kids. All you hear is ( I will never come here again ) complete chaos. Stadium location and parking it's completely confusing! It took us 2.5 hours to find our car but that's only because we took one of those rickshaws ! What they do is open all Entrances but the when you get inside they make you go the other side through the crowded hallways packed with 1000's of people! My daughter got hurt multiple times. All You smell is beer everywhere. In some corners you see emergency responders helping someone out. All I can say is : if they have me free frost Row season tickets I would never come here again. That place is the last place on earth I would ever come to again ! read more

Lines were super long, not enough staff, seating is terrible - tiny benches, lines for DART funneled thousands of people to a giant gated wall with only one small exit point. Someone died in the parking lot due to EMS inaccessibility today, all because of poor traffic flow and inaccessibility. I could not possibly give it less than a 5. However if they do convert it to a sheep farm, then I say it should be renamed the "Mutton Bowl." And if Old Country Buffet moves in across the street as planned, then maybe the "Glutton Bowl." And if the Pussycat Dolls ever do a show here, then it should be the "loosen up my Buttons Bowl." And if you like the idea of taking a little money from everyone and giving it all to one person (i.e. capitalism), then (a) you're in the right country, (b) you're in the right state, and (c), it should be the "Lotto Bowl." I went to the cotton bowl for the first time for a Rolling Stones concert. It seems like the operator would have figured out how to get people in and out after 70 years. It took an hour and a half to go the last 1/2 to the parking area. Once we got in the parking lot had to drive another mile to park. The entire crowd was herded through a single entrance/exit. The place is antiquated. The concert was great but getting in and out of the stadium and the area was a pain in the ass. I don't know why any event would chose to host it at the cotton bowl rather than one of the other options in DFW. read more

We came here for the Heart of Dallas Bowl and it was my first time inside the Cotton Bowl for a game. I see all the negative reviews here and yes, the stadium is old, but it is also a classic. With all of the other stadiums in the area, there is no need to update this one and people still seem to hold their events here. Some of the negatives include the lack of seats...it is all bleacher seating with exception to a very small area on the 50 yard line. Additionally, you need to go downstairs to use the restroom outside of the concourse where I was seated (50 yard line). The restrooms were gross and could have been kept up nicer by the staff. The positive includes the tailgating, which happened at Fair Park on the grounds. There is plenty of room to wander around and you didn't have to worry about getting hit by a car in the parking lot. All in all, an A-OK experience. read more

So LSU is playing in the Cotton Bowl this year for the first time since the 2002 season and naturally it made me think about the Cotton Bowl Stadium itself. I attended 2003 Cotton Bowl for LSU vs Texas (damn you Roy Williams) The Cotton Bowl Stadium itself is a dump. Not in the best of neighboods and the seats are way too cramped. January mornings in Dallas after New Year's are no joke either. Thankfully, the Cotton Bowl committee has moved to Jerry's world. It's funny...the Capital One Bowl is supposed to be the premier non-BCS bowl, but LSU fans were clamoring for the Cotton Bowl this year, especially after the mud bowl that was the Citrus Bowl Stadium for last year's Capital One game. Yelper N below stated it correctly...the Cotton Bowl used to be one of the Big 4. The move to Jerry's World will be huge in helping the Cotton Bowl get back BCS level. The Cotton Bowl game has its 75th Anniversary this year, thankfully the game has moved to a venue that is worthy of such a tradition rich bowl. read more

They did not allow my son's stroller, neither water nor his food, we made a line for more than 4 hours to watch the soccer game btw El Salvador vrs Mexico; we missed 40 minutes of the game and then another two hours making a line to buy water for my son. it was a disaster. We paid a preferential seat for nothing, to enter there is no preference very bad experience. No cell reception over there. Totally unacceptable they aren't prepared for the crowds. Wow does this stadium need to be imploded or refreshed. I have never waited in lines so long to use the bathroom. I never even tried to get food because the lines were so long. I was able to get a beer and that was the only plus. This stadium and the TX State Fair complex need to be imploded to make room for a new complex. I was there for the winter classic at 85k. Games here are great, the building itself is a little dated. That's all part of the charm. The 2 games I've been here for were the 2014 cotton bowl Missouri vs. Oklahoma st. And it was a good game. Remember when the four major bowls were the Rose, Cotton, Sugar, and Orange? Remember how shocked Cotton Bowl officials were when the BCS was created and the Fiesta Bowl shrugged the Cotton Bowl into obscurity? Well, if you don't, it's okay. Because the Cotton Bowl should be an unknown. For a stadium with this much history, the shoddy conditions, the crappy parking and the complete lack of atmosphere is just inexcusable. I've been here a few times (for the actual bowl game as well as the Red River Shootout). It has consistently not measured up to expectations. The stadium has finally made some renovations, but it still is far surpassed by quality competitors. The parking is entirely too far from the actual stadium. I do like the seating, but that is really the only thing going for it. I am generally a fan of preserving historically relevant buildings and sports stadiums. In the Cotton Bowl's case, I say tear it down. It's gone too far down the proverbial rabbit hole. Play the Cotton Bowl in Irving, TX and life won't skip a beat. read more

I enjoy coming here in the fall during the State Fair of Texas for the Grambling vs. Prairie View A & M games. Hey...the game itself is not that great but definitely come for the halftime show! It's what historically Black colleges do best. I went to one so I know. Anyway, back to the actual venue...I think they could improve on their concessions. Prices of course are sky high which is typical but the food is not that great. My chicken nachos were pretty bland. The seats provide a good view but it can get packed in there and hard to move around. I think if they make a few tweaks this place has potential but I would not frequent the stadium for any reason unless there was some seriously good entertainment. read more

Cotton Bowl stadium is one of the best places in Dallas for big events. The place offers huge indoor and outdoor area with stages for performance. The staff here are gentle and helpful all the time. Also, parking is never an issue here. There is ample parking space, cars are always safe here and the security staff with their golf carts help escort you if required. Overall a very good experience - whether you go during the day or late at night. It's awesome and cool place. read more

Sad that UT vs OU will no longer be held here, but honestly, it was about time. The history was great, but this venue was way out dated. The seating is awful, the parking is terrible, and overall excited to see the game moved to Cowboys stadium. read more

I have only been here once. I guess the place is okay, without being anything spectacular. The way the stadium is built, almost every location will give you a pretty decent view of what's going on on the pitch. The seats are not very comfortable, but pretty well organized. It wasn't filthy, but not too clean either. We tried several types of food, but all of them were pretty rubbish. We had the burger, which was very dry and was very hard to chew. Usually the hot dogs at events such as this taste really good, but here it sucked. The nachos were pretty okay. The only thing that tasted decent enough was the Philly Cheese Steak. Then again this place should not be judged based on the food. There was plenty of parking places in and around the stadium. All in all, pretty okay place to go watch some sports, but nothing that great. read more

Every year I hear people talk about moving the UT/OU game from the Cotton Bowl, and I say that they're crazy. It's one of the best traditions in college sports people!!!! Then I go to the game, and can't help but wonder what life in Jerryville might be like. Even with the recent renovations, this place is one of the worst set up stadiums that I have ever seen. Entry in the stadium takes about 45 minutes and you have at least 5 instances of wondering if you are going to be trampled. The bathrooms are awful, there are too many obstructed views, and the scoreboards are no good. I love the tradition of the game being at the fair, but this stadium stinks. Dallas' former mayor is too blame. If some money had been put into this at the right time, Dallas might be the home of an annual BCS Bowl. Instead, this place with grow cobwebs in it until next year's game. read more

Family and I was in town for our baseball trip! And when we drove by the Cotton Bowl I had to stop by! I grew up watching the four main bowl games on New Years that included the Cotton Bowl. So I sneaked in, and was able to find my way inside the stadium before I was caught! But I was able to get some pictures, and I was honored to at least been able to get inside and see this place. I know, I will never be able to see a game there, and this place might not be around much longer, but at least I was there once in my life. read more

Awful! It was my first time and the seating was terrible. I moved to the top since the second level was so crammed. I'm not a huge person and my rear did not fit on these bleacher like seats. The venue ran out of Guinness for the Guinness soccer series... Um ok. Then the food stations were out of everything. It was awful! Don't do it! read more
