The paid staff as well as the "playtrons" (paying customers who dress up and behave in character just for fun) make this an immersive experience. Don't miss the mermaid lagoon - the mermaids there never break character and look as real as any Hollywood film set. Wear comfortable shoes and be sure to bring cash - many of the merchants are cash only.

There were many elaborate costumes and people were in character and spoke with some sort of English accent. Food: This is medieval Europe after all...don't expect the highest quality food. Expect high prices though! A turkey leg was $19 and a chicken breast on a stick was $15+! Sysco Chicken tenders and fries were $15+. The food was awful. Come snacked and ready! Vendors: There are a ton of small businesses and vendors. Many of these businesses sell medieval themed handmade armor, garments, and accessories. Overall, I had a good time at my first Renaissance festival. There was plenty to do, and lots of entertainment scattered in the park.

I've been pigging out too much. Stop temping me after this! gym time errrday in May!!!! it's nice that they gather up all around you for once so you wouldnt have to drive around for different trucks. I really wanted Ssahm though! that is my favorite truck ever! they weren't there! sad days....:(. They had some of the trucks thats been around and some new I've never even heard of. I went on a Friday and there was not much to do. No music...just trucks. I can't possibly eat food from all those trucks ok? please find other entertainment! the chairs for the table could be better. They were so flimsy, I thought my badonkadonk butt was going to fall off. How embarrassing would that be? yikes!

Lots of sweet trucks (whatsdascoop, cup cakin', short and sweet) and even more savory ones. There we plenty of tables and chairs, as well as the area inside the Ballpark for seating. All in all I look forward to this annual event to help cancer and get my truck grub on.

It is the highlight of my year and I always have a great time. This year, however, was different... This event was billed as a "drive in only" show with no other upgrades or tickets available to anyone. I arrived very early in hopes of getting a good parking spot and ended up getting nearly the best available - or so I thought. I found myself in the second row of a grass field that was nowhere even close to the flight line. There were giant buildings between all of general admission and the flight line. Okay, well this stinks but we're all in the same boat, right? WRONG! I was surprised to learn that there is in fact a huge VIP area and it is chocked full of literally hundreds and hundreds of people with a direct view of the flight line - Much closer. I walked over to the entrance and asked how I could gain access to that area and explained that I would have paid for upgraded tickets if I had been given that option. I was told that it was reserved for performers and "friends of the air show". I asked whom I could contact to make a cash donation on the spot to get access and was turned away. I contacted the airshow via Facebook and asked if I could make a donation or pay to upgrade and was told no. It really irritates me that the airshow would offer upgraded seating to a select few in this fashion. I reckon I'll just go ahead and keep my cash donation!!!

Way too slow. Didn't match up to earlier years!read more

I need to marry into your family so I can get more baklava. Hey Dallas! Skip the Dallas version and drive over to Euless for the Mid-Cities event. I've been to both and Euless has you beat. St John's/Euless has better food. Their sampler platter was full of chicken and rice. The dolmathes were minty and warm. But the take-the-cake was the octopus: freshly grilled squid (not fried), a cup and oil and whole lemon?! Awesome. Mid-cities has TREES for shade b/c October is still hot in Texas. Mid-cities has better parking you don't have to pay for. St. John's had more of a family, local feel to it. More tents and less booths selling stuff, kids everywhere, and tables and chairs. It almost felt like a huge family party. Finally, if you've never had it, get the ouzo, just don't yell Oopah! you tourist (unless you are Greek).

Its Greek cheese they fry golden brown on a skillet and then douse with ouzo and light on fire for a few seconds. Then you eat the greatness on pita bread. mmmmmmmmm Gyro top notch. Greek festival is fun. If you're Catholic or Orthodox and need coloring books for kiddoes to learn their sacraments and bible stories, oh yes, they have them. a pop up book of David and Goliath? yep yep, I am the good aunt of a 4 year old and we have a long running family joke nothing says you care like a pop up card *or in this case book* Need an icon on a key chain because your old key chain broke? Might as well. need painted icon Christmas cards? yeah, I bought two packs. and Olive oil soap from Greece. and a tin of dolmathes from Greece that the ladies swear are almost as good as homemade (that goes in Dad's Christmas stocking), homemade Greek salad dressing? yes. Super friendly volunteers, one of whom was horrified to find out my parents go to a monster of a huge catholic church in Houston. She tracked down her daughter's laptop and then found me later with an address written on a napkin for a "Good Byzantine church" for my parents to go visit. HA! they will too. Good for kids. They have a craft tent that costs a dollar to participate and a petting zoo. Did I mention the gyros are great? I got a second one to take home for dinner. It only lasted in the wrapper 30 minutes before I ate it. Church cookbooks of Greek recipes are $15. I love Greek festival but its a good thing its only once a year or I'd never fit in my pants.

We are lucky we live close by so we always bike here, so at least we can beat the traffic and the horrific price for parking. First year they ran out of gyros, no joke!!! Second year, no baklava sundae , ran out. This year, not enough that the prices skyrocketed, some vendors didn't even make an effort to print new menus, they literally just crossed prices and put whatever they wanted. Or, they wanted to go with the last year price but seeing all other vendors increased theirs... hmmmm ,, yeah !! Us too! We tried the gyro, no flavor, mediocre at best, so expensive , $12 for just the pita and the meat. No side, and they all wrapped up on trays, God knows how long they stay there. Lamb sliders and fries was our next choice, nothing special there either. Again, store bought slider buns and not enough meat, not tasty, fries also stay under a heat lamp, the frozen type of course. Like can you guys make some effort at least??? Fast paced, long lines, order, pay, GET OUT!!! We were not impressed at all. Best thing was the baklava sundae for sure. So... bye bye OPA!
