I was referred to countess alterations by a team member at Macy's after I requested a referral. I definitely wanted an experienced tailor after spending a pretty penny on a suit. The owner was friendly, quick and experienced. The cost to alter was worth every penny. After I was sized, I paid and picked up a week later. Unfortunately I had to pick up after hours and took a gamble to see if anyone was still working at Countess Alterations. To my surprise the owner was still working and let me in!!!! OMG this is the reason for the 5th star! many businesses lock the door and have forgotten about customer service and realizing customers keep the lights on. I was and still am grateful for the owner opening the doors after hours. I will be back and will pass out business cards to anyone who asks. I grabbed a handful :) SYOY

This will be the last time I ignore the previous negative reviews of a place, because they are outnumbered significantly by the positive ones. I brought in a brand new pair of $375 very limited edition Iron Heart jeans I bought myself for my birthday to have them hemmed. Some people may find the price of the jeans to be the real problem here, but I bought them as a special gift and jeans like this last forever. The main points taken should be expensive and new. When I got them back, they were missing color in a bunch of small spots, mostly on the left leg. The effect is called marbling and usually happens when raw denim is improperly washed. I brought them in new. It looks like white splotchy staining on otherwise black denim. I brought them back here and left the jeans so they could consult their cleaner. When I came back I was told that it was a manufacturing default and I should call the manufacturer. Because they did not wash them as they do not wash on site. I said that it wasn't a defect because when I dropped off the jeans they looked brand new. I was again told that they could not have done it. Which they certainly did. They would not take responsibility for damaging my very expensive jeans, because they say the didn't wash them. I never said they washed them, I said it could have happened from using their steam powered iron on a high setting. So I have a $375 pair of jeans I've never worn that have what basically looks like permanent stains from male reproductive fluids. I hate this place and am infuriated that all their positive reviews will keep garnering them new customers.

My best friend's son's wedding was coming up and the attire was cocktail so I needed to find a…read morespecial dress for the occasion. I found one online that I liked, but it was on clearance (nonreturnable) and only one size was available. It had been a long time since I bought a cocktail dress so I wasn't really sure what size I wore, but thought it would work. I was very disappointed when I tried it on because it was way too big and made me look like a dumpy old lady. I hoped I could get it altered, but the only dressmaker I knew was far too busy due to bridal season. Yelp to the rescue! I chose Mila based on her positive reviews and I'm so glad I did. I immediately felt comfortable with her and was confident she would be able to make the necessary adjustments, even though they were not exactly straightforward. The waist needed to be taken in and lifted, the tank style lace shoulder straps shortening, and I didn't want to lose the pockets, which made it more complicated. Mila said she could complete it in two weeks and the quote was very reasonable. When I returned to pick it up I put the dress on and I was completely blown away by what a great job she did! I loved the dress as it was now very flattering and accentuated my shape. I highly recommend Mila for her kindness, professionalism, and--most of all--expertise in her craft!

It has taken me a long time to leave this review because I was so conflicted. Mila is very sweet…read moreand professional and her home is comfortable spotless; however, I did not have a good experience with having my mother of the bride dress made. She was recommended to me by Britex in SF where I got my absolutely stunning beaded fabric as well as some silk materialthat matched perfectly. Unfortunately, she was already a long distance away from my home. I had no idea at the time I would need to make as many trips to her house as I did. I think at least 4 or 5 of these trips were unnecessary. It should have taken 3 - 4 only. She suggested I change the neckline from a square or scoop to one where she would place fabric at an angle through the décolletage of my chest. At the event, people told me they did not like that aspect of the dress at all, and that it took away from the design. I have a nice chest, but this change took my dress from matronly to old maid. It was odd and unflattering. I brought her very sturdy zipper from ETSY online. She refused to use it. She installed a small, slender zipper. At the event, my dress got stuck and wasn't zipping properly. I had noticed this problem at her house despite not having gained weight. She didn't want to address the issue and downplayed it. On the day of my daughter's wedding, the dress woukd not zip. No one was available to help me because they were all getting ready. It was extremely stressful and I was very lucky my dress didn't break. The mother of the groom had to come in and try and help me with the dress even though she was trying to get ready too. This was all completely unavoidable. The dress had a flaw in the design that should have been addressed, considering it was completely custom, and the proper heavier duty zipper should have been used. I ended up having to take the dress back to Mila after the event so that she could install a better zipper for future use. .But this wasn't the only issue. She insisted on dry-cleaning the silk. I suggested it wasn't a good idea at the spots, she was seeing were very small and hard to notice. Her dry cleaner ruined my material and we had to spend a considerable amount of time looking for new material that matched The new material didn't match the shoes that I had and, at the last minute after picking the material, I had to start looking for shoes all over again. This became costly because I had order more than one pair to make sure they matched the dress. She paid for the new fabric but it wasn't as expensive as the fabric.I had purchased from Britex. I of course, didn't get the difference in cost and there was not one scrap of that material left over when she was done with my dress. There would have been material left over from the silk that was ruined. We were now running out of time despite starting the process very early. She also wanted to go over on the price that we had agreed on. I did not like that at all because I was already being put out by all these issues and it's not like when she was charging me in the first place was cheap! I woukd not agree so, In the end, she charged me so much for trips to the fabric stores and dry cleaners that it ended up being the higher price she wanted to charge me. I'm assume that when she went to the fabric stores, she was also shopping for other people. It would then stand to reason that she charged all of us for the same trips. There were other issues when it came to the dress, such as length, that she wanted to change. It was awkward trying to convince her that, if i'm paying that much for a dress, I should get the dress I wanted and not the dress she wanted for me. Mila's tastes run very conservative. I i had a picture for the exact design and had already purchased all the fabric. If the process had included her purchasing all materials and designing the dress from scratc, I might have felt differently. I appreciated her opinions, but when they conflicted with mine, I didn't want to have to convince her of my feelings, because it was a very special, once in a lifetime event and I had nearly sixty years experience wearing clothing. In the end, if I had this to do all over again, I would not have chosen Mila. When I added up just the commute time to her home, it was well over 20 hours of my time. Adding in time shopping for new fabric and new shoes adds at least another 10 hours. I cannot recommend Mila except for small projects, I also would say that a client should get a hard/firm cost quote in writing - including exactly what she's going to charge you for any other trips. Hundreds of dollars of surprise costs in the end are not okay when you're already spending this much.

After multiple attempts at communicating with those preferred vendors, there was 1 viable choice, but it was overpriced for what I needed and she ended up leaving me hanging on appointment availability anyway. Once that happened I took it upon myself to go on Yelp and find alternative solutions. Out of the next 2-3 choices I ventured out to, Nadia was the one I opted for because she was straight forward and was the only one who offered me 2 different bustle options - American (over) bustle or ballroom (under bustle). As a bonus, she was also 1/3 of the price of the wedding dress boutique's preferred vendor! Communications were all through Yelp messaging - clear cut for scheduling. Make sure for your fittings you always bring the shoes you'll be wearing for an accurate hem, etc. I opted for the ballroom bustle and Nadia numbered the attachments. During a subsequent fitting I had the MOB and MOH accompany me so they knew what to expect for doing the bustle on the day of the wedding. Forms of payment accepted are cash, card, and money sharing apps - I opted for Zelle.

My husband brought in his uniform, patches, and printed out the specific instructions for them to use. I go to pick his uniforms up a few days later and my husband tells me that it's been done wrong. They sewed his name patch ON the pocket flap when the instructions specified that it belongs ABOVE the pocket flap. No branch of the military has the name patch sewn on the actual flap which led me to believe that they in fact did not have experience with military uniforms. They also cut the name patch incorrectly so it's no longer usable. We had to order new ones which cost $20, and they were back ordered. Great. We ended up getting a partial refund from the business, but were not reimbursed for the name patches. I'm sure this business does well with dresses and suits, but I'd probably go somewhere else for military uniforms, especially when you brought in a physical copy of instructions on where the patches go, that they didn't even look at.
