First time here and was greeted by a friendly face. Grabbed a variety of meats and excited to try all of it. Had the New York steaks and they were great! Clean environment and organized. Definitely coming back.

Awesome quality and service! Made snack sticks with my leftover duck and geese from this past season. Highly recommend the jalapeño cheese flavor. I'll be back next year. Thanks CB.

For me, as long as the quality is there vs buying low grade meat at a chain grocery store, than I'm happy.

Located in Marysville right next door to a dollar store along the train tracks, it reminded me of the El Torito markets now gone from where I lived in Leucadia (coastal San Diego). Nobody had recommended it to me. I didn't look up the reviews. I just parked and went in on a hunch for lunch. The place is bright, neat and clean. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. There is a window to order food next to a small, quiet in-store dining area. I ordered a carne asada torta to go. The bun was fresh and aromatic. The beef was good, not over-seasoned and topped with lots of onions, a slice of red tomato that was actually red, and perfectly ripe avocado slices -- all for just over $10. There is a separate counter for bulk catering orders, and a separate meat counter (carneceria) where the fresh meats are neatly presented. A small fresh vegetable cooler is practically curated. There are a few shelves of canned goods as well. There are coolers with drinks, though I couldn't find my favorite Sidral apple soda which is my beverage of choice at my favorite Mexican food restaurant, Karina's which is still in business on coast highway in Leucadia. But that was not worth complaining about because I found a bottle of tasty mango soda instead. The restroom was spotless with rapid hot water at the sink (a rarity in restaurants of any ilk) and ample paper towels. This kind of service and presentation does not happen by accident. It is obvious that ownership and staff take great pride in their business. Nothing trendy or exotic here, but if you're hungry for straightforward Mexican meat, beans, rice, chips, tortillas or chicharrones, and you are anywhere near the center of Central California, El Torero is the place to go.

After reading some of the posted reviews (on Yelp), I'm beginning to understand why, and I find myself very reluctant to become another dissatisfied, if not disillusioned, customer. What should people should know about doing business with many of the 'mom & pop' shops (e.g. Harringer's) in the greater Yuba City is that customer service is a lost concept . I am surprised that many such shops here in this area manage to stay in business for as long as they do. Perhaps they also engage in some side enterprise(s) to maintain a mere storefront . . . . ? Now, in all fairness to the mom & pop enterprises that still proliferate the Yuba-Sutter area, I manage to maintain my frame-of-reference with respect to Yuba-Sutter's demographics - specifically the general populace that patronizes local businesses. Given some of the written content of those (very) few who've bothered writing reviews, I shouldn't be too surprised that their (meat) orders were not filled according to their expectations - so far to say that clear communication is shall always be an essential component to competent customer service. Pursuant to living in So. Yuba City, I invariably do the bulk of my grocery shopping at Winco. (Which by the way, Winco's customer service, by my experience, is actually very good!) However, given Winco's proximity to Harringer's, it's an educated guess that Harringer's (apparent) sparse customer base probably shops at Winco, as well. Aside from the presentation of customers typically seen at the local Wal-Mart, I've seen those very same customers ALSO at Winco. Departing Winco's parking lot onto Franklin Ave., I often find myself bemused with this haunting thought: How on God's green earth did so many peckerheads (and slipshod mom & pop shops) end up in Yuba City?

BUT NO MORE! The place sold a month or so ago. The new owners got rid of Dan and most of what he stocked: the stuff people like us regularly made special pilgrimages from miles away to get. Now--- its fast degrading into "just another over-priced, Indian-owned convenience store," where the service is rude at best because management has neither care nor respect for the customers. Holiday dinners will never be the same at a lot of Yuba-Sutter homes, without the 1500 lbs. of velvety prime rib Dan stocked in for us on holidays, and his recipe suggestions. Never again will I see Warrens' caller ID on my cell phone because Dan is calling to let me know "the fresh Dungeness crab is in, how many do I want?" and he'll put by a jar of Remoulade Sauce and a sack of ice for me till I pick it up during lunch hour, so it stays good in my ice chest till I get it home after work. It hit my nostrils when I walked in the door; the store now has an unsavory odor. With Dan gone, and a new owner, the place has gone other world, the meat downhill to the bottom. Though raised on a farm on which we raised our own meat, I didn't recognize a single exotic cut of meat in the display case, plus, the identifiers were written in a foreign language. When asked for an explanation of various unrecognizable cuts, the speech of the two meat cutters behind the counter was indecipherable to me. When I asked where the roasts, etc., were, one of the lads went into the back and brought out an over the hill looking slab of meat wrapped in plastic wrap. I finally said, "this just won't do," and left. I wouldn't trust the dodgy looking meat at any price. As another poster said, RIP Warren's Market.
