For the better part of the last 30 years (since moving to Yuba City from SoCal in '86), I have…read moredriven past Harringer's Meat Locker/Processors - usually on my way to Winco or crossing over to Hwy 99, and wondered why I never see any vehicles parked (nor people) outside Harringer's storefront. After reading some of the posted reviews (on Yelp), I'm beginning to understand why, and I find myself very reluctant to become another dissatisfied, if not disillusioned, customer. What should people should know about doing business with many of the 'mom & pop' shops (e.g. Harringer's) in the greater Yuba City is that customer service is a lost concept . I am surprised that many such shops here in this area manage to stay in business for as long as they do. Perhaps they also engage in some side enterprise(s) to maintain a mere storefront . . . . ? Now, in all fairness to the mom & pop enterprises that still proliferate the Yuba-Sutter area, I manage to maintain my frame-of-reference with respect to Yuba-Sutter's demographics - specifically the general populace that patronizes local businesses. Given some of the written content of those (very) few who've bothered writing reviews, I shouldn't be too surprised that their (meat) orders were not filled according to their expectations - so far to say that clear communication is shall always be an essential component to competent customer service. Pursuant to living in So. Yuba City, I invariably do the bulk of my grocery shopping at Winco. (Which by the way, Winco's customer service, by my experience, is actually very good!) However, given Winco's proximity to Harringer's, it's an educated guess that Harringer's (apparent) sparse customer base probably shops at Winco, as well. Aside from the presentation of customers typically seen at the local Wal-Mart, I've seen those very same customers ALSO at Winco. Departing Winco's parking lot onto Franklin Ave., I often find myself bemused with this haunting thought: How on God's green earth did so many peckerheads (and slipshod mom & pop shops) end up in Yuba City?

No trip to Gold Country is complete without a stop at Swingle Meat!…read more As mentioned in my previous review, groceries, especially meat prices are super high in the Bay Area, so whenever I have a chance to get some good deals on meat, I'm going to make every trip here worth it. On this trip I picked up some frozen ribeyes, sirloins, burgers, breakfast sausage patties, cheddar jalapeno sausages, and some chile verde and ranch house chicken. The chicken items I got come vacuum sealed, which is perfect when I plan to sous vide them. The things I wish I got more of was their honey pepper beef sticks and hot teriyaki beef jerky. It's very affordable and perfect for snacks. Another low key thing that we like are their frozen chicken wellingtons. super easy to bake at home and it's a tasty meal. I arrived in the morning and luckily it wasn't super busy. Grabbed a basket and before I knew it I had enough meats and snacks to feed a large family when in reality, it's just for a couple of us. $153 well spent and meals for days. The prices for the tri-tips have more than doubled since 2020, but honestly, still a great deal considering the size. $35-40 for a good sized marinated tri-tip is still a steal of a price. The mother lode tri tip is a can't miss and a fan favorite at any of our family bbqs. Definitely plan to bring a cooler and some ice packs so you can keep your meats stored properly in route to back home.

I was expecting a butcher shop where I could select some fresh pork chops or rib eye steaks. But…read moremost of the meats were pre-packaged frozen meats. Absolutely nothing wrong with that... it just wasn't what I was looking for. We did buy some frozen steaks. I found the prices to be reasonable but not worth going out of the way for (it's about 40 miles away from where we live). Regarding the quality of the steaks, we didn't find them to be better than what we normally purchase.
