Quoted price of $30 scribbled out. Final charge - $49.99.
    Bethany P.

On 9/26 I brought my wall clock in to get a quote for replacing the small clockwork mechanism. The friendly man quoted me $30, and wrote up a ticket for that amount which I signed. On 9/30 when I returned to pick up my clock, the lady at the counter said it would be $49.99. "I'm sorry," I said. "I was quoted $30 for this work." Her reply: "I know. He told you wrong." When I protested that this isn't right, she shrugged and said "He should've checked the price list." And she rang up my card but for $49.99. This is disgustingly dishonest. I'm attaching an image of my receipt showing the original quote of $30 clearly scribbled out. There's enough info in this image so that if there are honest people in management of this shop, they can contact me to make it right.

    My little Waterbury clock.

Had a lot of fun looking through their store, lots of cool stuff. Bought a little clock that I feel in love with. Great service and friendly staff.

First, I contacted Tim about a new Howard Miller mantle clock that was having issues. He did the warranty work on it. But, Howard Miller is going out of business, and the quality of their clocks seems not to be what they used to produce. Second, he worked on a 1920 Herschede mantle clock I bought on eBay. With me standing there, he pulled out the mechanism and it was clear that a part was broken. Plus, it did not look at all like the photo posted by the clocksmith on eBay who sold it to me. Tim did what he could. The reason I bought those clocks is that I want a mechanical clock that keeps good time, and neither of them do. But many Grandfather Clocks do keep good time, and I knew that Tim has some. So, after a conversation with him, I bought a 1988 Ridgeway Grandfather Clock from him. Tim and his son delivered the clock, set it up, and Tim gave me a brief overview. He also had the manual and original paperwork for me. It's beautiful, and after a few adjustments it is accurate to within a few seconds. It does play three different chimes, but I love the Winchester chimes, and this clock sounds wonderful. I expect to have it for the rest of my life. Note: Yelp says I'm in California. No, I'm in Olympia, WA.

The first couple times I turned down this road, I was certain the directions were wrong, because it looks so residential. But never fear. There's even parking, usually. Mr Park has a small shop with a few display cases showing off rings, bracelets, and other jewelry. Lots of sparkles. There are a few old-fashioned mantle clocks (I have kind of a thing for these), and a few miscellaneous other decorative items. Signs say he buys gold. He sits at a workbench behind the cases, and seems to do a steady business in watch and clock repair. I brought in a new watch I'd gotten for Christmas that needed links added to the band. Off-the-shelf watches are always too small for my meathead wrists. He didn't happen to stock extra links, but I got a few from the customer service department of the watch manufacturer. He got right to work the second I came in, and tapped it all together while I sat in his one chair. $10 to take a watch I couldn't even fit over my hand and turn it into something I can wear comfortably whenever I want. It took him maybe 5 minutes. Mr Park isn't the chattiest person you've ever met. He didn't even shoot the breeze with me at all until he was ringing me out. But he's a friendly, nice guy once the work is done. Watch and clock people always seem to be hyper-focused, from what little I know. Given how much more he smiled after tuning up my watchband, I think that might be his vibe. I have a mantle clock that doesn't always run and I think I might be back here to tune that up when I think of it.

One being a Grandfather clock so it's not exactly move able. Called Boyd's and scheduled Jarrod for an evaluation visit. He showed up on time and inspected and evaluated all three clocks. Two were OK and just required some lubricant but the 40 year old grandfather clock needed a new movement. Jarrod located a new movement and gave us a very reasonable quote that included the new movement, installation and set up. Less than two weeks later the new movement was in and Jerrod came by the same day to do the install. About 1 hour later the new movement was expertly installed and running and chiming like it was brand new. So what an amazing experience with Boyd's Clocks. Timely, professional, reasonable prices and service in your home. Would give my highest recommendation for anyone seeking clock repair and maintenance. Thank you Boyd's staff for your great service!

Oh it took him a few months. And at times I doubted that I had made the right call. But that old "bubbleback" has been keeping close to perfect time for nearly a year! Mike Shaw is a third generation watch maker. He is proud to have learned from his father and grandfather, and he misses them both. But in a way, they are still sharing a bench with him. He loves to tell stories about them, and it is clear that he still reveres their abilities. That's not all. Mike can fix bands. My daughter-in-law has a 65-year-old Mido, whose expansion bracelet broke a link. It's a pity to replace an original bracelet with something new. Mike repaired the spring perfectly.
