I Yelper mentioned they had flies in their counters, so while I was here, I took a look throughout and did not see any, (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-donuts-lakeside?select=1mF6o5Lwuyotw2hvA6OdLg#WzThDcT6rpVlCIA5Dqx_EA) so hopefully they have taken control of that problem. The glazed doughnut holes looked all puffy and well glazed (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-donuts-lakeside?select=1mF6o5Lwuyotw2hvA6OdLg#JeC9ToxzH1QUVQzGmgUrfQ), and I checked out the enormous five fingered bear claws, although they looked quite good, they were just to much. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-donuts-lakeside?select=1mF6o5Lwuyotw2hvA6OdLg#mCOdsXSYwhR9LkEFG8X3-w), so I settled on the butter milks old fashion bars. I picked one for my self, and since I was planning to visit mother, one for her. The bar came with a nice butter milk crust (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-donuts-lakeside?select=1mF6o5Lwuyotw2hvA6OdLg#D7wDr9nEFaCqY3KG2i4wQw) and a soft moist center that was good. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-donuts-lakeside?select=1mF6o5Lwuyotw2hvA6OdLg#nQHe3G3zCtoDqewxc4xQCA) The doughnut was perfect for dunking in coffee. A good doughnut. Service was okay. Simply put, it was uneventful and the lady seemed a little grumpy, but I did get one smile out of her.

"Ok Taste, But Not Much Variety" I went to the Country Donut shop in Lakeside today and was a little disappointed. I had seen a lot of the YELP reviews which are pretty good, but when I walked into the shop they had very little variety of donuts and there were a lot of flies flying around all over the inside of the shop. There prices also seemed a little on the high side. The shop was not very impressive at all.

Yummy I love donuts! They make me happy

Sadly, Peterson's sold and now are just a mere shell of what they were, making the hunt for a good donut a thing. My wife's colleagues brought in donuts from Mary's, and when she got home and said something about it, I had instant recall of the donut debate from my work. We pulled a late-night donut adventure, and ok East County peeps, you were right, you were right, I said it twice. (I'll still vouch for the old Petersons, but I digress). The staff was friendly here, and quick to point out their favorites, and what they are known for. Having these donuts, right there, just made them that much better than taking them to go.... which we did as well. This is a far hike from Escondido, to Santee, but a drive well worth it. There is a lot of parking in this strip mall/shopping center. The inside is bright and had plenty of seating and counterspace to sit and stuff your face. I will be back Mary's, I'll be back.

The restaurant still feels nostalgic and old school with its decor. I only bought a maple ring and a jelly filled. The good: service was quick. As for the donuts themselves, the dough was very pillow-y on both, and had a nice bite. The ehh: the maple frosting on the donut was very underwhelming, and my jelly filled only had jelly in one quarter of the donut. The donuts left a weird oily or sugary aftertaste lingering in my mouth which I was super grossed out by.

If you ever had a 1AM "I NEED a donut" moment... just know I absolutely acted on mine…read more So yes -- I pulled up to Honey Donuts in Santee because when the craving hits, it HITS. And since they're open 24 hours, I knew I had a good chance of getting something fresh. Let me tell you what I grabbed: Glazed donut Bear claw Sinclair donut BABY... when I tell you these donuts were hitting?! The glazed didn't even make it home. Not even out the parking lot good. You know how sometimes you bite into a donut and it's just... air? Dry? No substance? Not here. These were hearty but still light, fresh without being greasy, and that glaze? Soft and perfectly sweet -- not that dry, crackly, fall-off-in-your-lap situation. Just melt-in-your-mouth goodness. And that bear claw? Stuffed and substantial. They are not skimping on anything over here. The donuts are a really good size too. At $1.75 for regular donuts and $3.00 for the large fancy ones, it's honestly a steal. Now let's talk service. Peter is SO sweet. Great customer service, patient, and he'll happily explain the donuts, ingredients, and menu if you have questions. That kind of hospitality at 1AM? Top tier. I'll be honest -- I'm normally a Sunny Donut girlie... but "Honey Donuts" just took them down and took the crown. If you're ever in Santee and you want fresh, affordable, legit GOOD donuts any time of day (or night), give them a try. You won't regret it. Thank me later. You're welcome.

Anyway, its 1) The PD (Italian Sub) Signature Sandwich and 2) The Croissant Breakfast Sandwich. OMG they are both so good! The portion sizes are huge so I always do 1/2 a sandwich for lunch and the other 1/2 for dinner. The PD has ham, prosciutto, salami, tomatoe, mixed greens, provolone, mayo, mustard, vinegar and oil. This is a cold sandwich and it is fantastic! The croissant sandwich, you can pick your protein but I always do sausage, egg, and cheese. Ofcourse, this one is toasted. The service is very quick. I've never had to wait for more than 15 mins. There is plenty of sitting although this place I feel people go for pick up more than for dine in. It is a very casual place and the staff is very friendly. They also sell donuts and a few drinks. Oh! And did I mention you get a free donut bite with you sandwich?!

Decent amount of donuts available and a pretty vast menu (lunch mainly). I was craving a BEC bagel so went with that. Bagel was missing the freshness I'm used to. Everything tasted like it was microwaved instead of made fresh to order. Bagel was slightly chewy. Bacon and egg were definitely reheated. I would come back to give another shot but only if items are being made fresh.
