The minute I walked in I was greeted by a palpable musk of antiquity, the smell of age. Old paper, wood varnish, a hint of mustiness- a great smell to certain noses, including the one on ol' yours truly. Not much at Mary Catherine's really inspires my fancy, although I did see a great battle map of (or from?) WWII here that was absolutely gorgeous- and cheap! (Although not nearly cheap enough for me.) The only jarring moment of my visit to Mary Catherine's was the prominent Garfield poster hanging above the passage between the rooms. While Garfield is certainly about as funny as an old cabinet, I didn't quite expect to see a monstrosity of corporate cartoonage amongst all the earth tones and old books. A slight complaint, to be sure, but so it goes.

Over the years, we've bought a small table, a mirror, and a unique light fixture from Mary Catherine's -- all of which were things we weren't necessarily looking for, but we're just drawn to in the moment! I was recently in Short North for the first time in years, (finally reentering society after the pandemic and a move further from the city) and had JUST enough time to stop in. Luckily, it was a Thursday afternoon, which is part of their new limited hours. I'm glad they are still keeping the storefront open a few days a week, even after being in business for so many years! I'm a huge fan of '70s fashion and absolutely fell in love with a pair of high-waisted, straight-leg denim jeans. Sadly, they were a bit too tight in the waist, even though the fit everywhere else was perfect. While I'm not overly fond of the pricing, I do understand it--because for the perfect, high-quality pair of vintage jeans, I'd absolutely pay the price. I didn't leave empty-handed though; I walked out with a super cool pair of sunnies that I'm obsessed with. Huge thanks to my lovely sweetheart for finding this gem of a store! This store specializes in vintage finds. they have furniture, glassware, jewelry, clothing, vinyl records, and a lot of other really cool pieces. Every item I purchased from there I have received multiple compliments from and are sure to become family heirlooms. I stopped in again today just wanting to see what it was like when not in full Christmas mode. Same friendly, helpful staff. Still super cute with lots of tempting decor items. Wide range of price points... something for everyone. They have a few pieces of repurposed furniture that has been redone in a shabby chic fashion using chalk paint. They also sell the full line of chalk paint... which I will be back to purchase once I figure out what direction I was to take my repurposing items in. Today half the store was closed as it will become their dedicated Christmas section. Come back Nov 7th and be the first to browse the new merchandise! They have a great collection of large furniture from the early 1900s, along with so many really old bikes, and chairs too. While the smaller items aren't quite as abundant, I was really stoked to see an old pottery piece. I knew it was made in Zanesville just by looking at it (my home town), but I was so pleased to learn that it really was by checking the stamp underneath. Overall, this place has a great selection of curated antiques. If you're looking for something specifically early 1900s or maybe just some old chairs to jazz up, definitely check in here. P.S. Maybe I'm just naive, but I was blown away by the prices of this furniture. I loved the look of a particular desk near the front of the store. I expected it to be pricey -- maybe a $1000-1500 bucks. Maybe two grand at the most. Then I looked at the price tag. I won't mention here what it cost. Let's just say that it was significantly more than my meager estimate. If you're looking for some ultra-high-end Mission/Arts & Crafts furniture, check out Euro Classics. The owner, Pedro, is extremely friendly and willing to show you around the multiple rooms of goods.

The store is laid out flawlessly. Each display flows seamlessly into the next and before you know it you've reached the end. Our hostess was a delight to talk to and answered all of our questions. It's not just a place selling second-hand stuff, you can find some really nice antiques and collectibles in there. The shelves are crowded and items are somewhat grouped by category, but it's easy to browse and the staff are accessible and friendly if you need help finding something in particular. Parking is right out front in a small gravel lot. They also have a pretty active Facebook page where they highlight sales and new items available in the store. I love the history and quality of household items made decades ago, so I'll be back -- check it out if that's your thing too!

I have had the…read morepleasure to visit this thrift store various times & every one of my experiences begins with a lovely greeting and a friendly conversation with the volunteers. I always leave with something in my hands no matter the day I go in. There are true gems to find here, my favorite items to look at are the Knick knacks and jewelry. The prices are extremely inexpensive on top of that. The only "down" side about this place is that there is a minimum spending with card use at checkout but like I said I always find something so this has never been an issue for me. This is one of my favorite thrift spots in the Columbus area & trust me I've been to a lot.
