When my parents are in town, we love going out for breakfast. I had a Country Kitchen in my hometown and it was the gold standard for brunch with grandparents, so I've got some sentimental ties to the company. I've been to the Cafe by Country Kitchen in Marion a few times now, and it's like an updated version of what I remember as a child. They offer standard American breakfast items: eggs, omelets, pancakes, etc. and they also have newer, hip selections like avocado toast and crepes! I had the savory crepes, stuffed with Denver omelette fixings; it was delicious! It's served covered in hollandaise and it was so good. I got a side of hash browns and took enough leftovers home for another meal. Others in my party got the avocado bacon ranch omelette, and a ham and cheese omelette with pancakes. The pancakes are huge and fluffy. Everything came out nice and hot. The ambiance is what you'd expect from Country Kitchen, pretty standard diner decor. It was pretty busy on the Saturday morning when we went, but we only waited a few minutes for a booth. Our server was really nice and friendly, and attentive, and the overall service was fast. Servers and staff were warmly greeting "regulars" at the door by name as they came in. Overall, it's a great place to eat again and again. read more

I decided to try something different and stopped into Cafe by Country Kitchen in Marion for breakfast and was greeted with friendly smiles. Despite being very busy, they seated me right away, which was nice. I ordered a Garden Omelette with egg whites and only spinach and mushrooms with an English muffin and a side of fruit. I ordered an orange juice to drink also which was very, very good. My food all tasted really, really good. The service was exceptional. I definitely plan to return! Great experience!! read more

Tell me how this place even stays in business? They are never open, and if they are, it's till 2 pm! Omg, 2 pm?! That's not even an old person's Blue Plate Special time. We just came from a wonderful meal at Country Kitchen in Marion. The breakfasts are large enough that we always have enough to take home for the next day! But the best thing about this restaurant is TARA, the sweet woman who greets us and makes sure we always get a pot of strong coffee. What a surprise!! Living in Marion I've driven past the Country Kitchen multiple times. We decided to have a family bowling day and wanted to grab food beforehand. We had 6 people, waited less than 5 min, and was escorted to an oversized booth that sat all 6 of us comfortably. The menu is huge and took us a while to order with all the different options. We went on a Sunday morning. It was busy but didn't have to wait long for a table. Our waitress did a great job getting to our order and our food came out quickly. There were two coffee drinkers and hot tea drinker at the table. The choices of tea were good and the two enjoyed the pot of coffee. We had western omelette, 2 Montana ranch one with pancakes the other with a side of toast. Bread was very good. I had scrambled egg, pancakes, bacon breakfast. It was very tasty. Honestly the food is always amazing, and the staff is friendly specially Pam. I love this place and visit at least once a month to enjoy the delicious food. My kids also love them and never complain about eating breakfast, or lunch at this place. Although they are packed on weekends if you are trying to avoid to much wait time always get here before 8:30am. Even with wait time though the food is always brought out in a timely manner. This a great place for friends to meet for a good meal. Although I've only been there for breakfast it's always good. Staff is friendly and there a lot of regulars who eat here. The waffles were extremely light, fluffy and tasty. Biscuits and gravy is very tasty and the bacon was perfectly crisp. You need to try this place, you won't regret it. read more

The Country Kitchen Cafe is hands down my favorite local breakfast and lunch place. They not only have the BEST pancakes that I've quite possibly ever had, but also a wide variety of items to choose from. Want breakfast for lunch, no problem! The staff there is very attentive and always accommodating. I go so often they know me by name and they feel like family. I love their Monday - Friday breakfast specials. This was our first breakfast in Marion after moving in the day before. It was Christmas eve and full but didn't have any wait time as they were staying on top of clearing tables and everybody was hustling. The service was fast and friendly from the waitress to the checkout counter. The coffee was good to my liking and they put a carafe on the table so that I could drink at my own pace. The food was great. We had chicken fried steak, eggs over easy, shredded hash browns, bacon, and pancakes. Everything was cooked quite well and we really enjoyed our visit. One thing I would wish was different was that they used fresh cut strawberries. Aside from the crapes, the cheese omelette and hash browns I had were delicious as well. I feel like I'm in someone's house when I eat here. From the moment you walk in, you are warmly welcomed by staff and taken care of. No one knows my name, but it seems like they do. Breakfast all day, carafes of coffee brought to the table, and comfy booths make this a cozy and happy place. Comfort food hits the spot, especially on a weekend brunchtime. My go to order includes omelettes, BLT, and daily soup special. Last visit I enjoyed their hand dipped breaded tenderloin and had lots of leftovers. The Country Kitchen is your basic, inexpensive, sit-down diner. The tables are way too close together when it is crowded. The food is nothing spectacular, but it always passes as good. The service depends on the frame of mind of the servers when you visit. The coffee is always hot. Cute and cozy spot, apparently a chain. Excellent service. Had a chicken and waffles and got a side order of 1/2 biscuits and gravy because I'm on a quest to find the best biscuits and gravy ever. The chicken was 3 over cooked and dry tenders with too much breading. The waffle itself was absolutely perfect and delicious. B&G waaaay too salty. Overall wouldn't mind coming back to try other things on the menu but wouldn't be sad to never go back. Fairly average. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped by here today with some good friends of ours for brunch. We get in and the place is packed - we put our name on the list and within 10 minutes we were seated and on our way to ordering. Our server Adriana was nice and informative - our friends and myself got the Montana Omelet and my girlfriend got the Kitchen Sink omelet with cottage cheese. It didn't take very long after we ordered to receive our food - keep in mind this place was full of folks. Omelets were on point and the cottage cheese wasn't too bad either. Three stars says "A-OK" and that is about how this place is. It is clean, popular on a Saturday AM, and the wait staff is friendly, and fast. I had my choice of seating, got waited on fast, food came fast, portions were fine, and the food was hot. Coffee was good. There was a decent selection of classic stuff on the menu, but nothing exotic, cutting edge or hipster. Which is in itself hipster. In fact there was a nice mix of seniors and younger people. A no frills, no nonsense, fill you up, fresh and tasty breakfast and lunch place. The pace of the place was fast, so you probably get the hint to move on out unless your're a large party or sitting on a counter stool. But for putting on the feed bag and looking at the sports page with easy parking, a nice stop. read more

Your typical greasy spoon. Very friendly and polite service, which should be expected in this town. Our waitress never let my coffee go empty. I had the country fried steak and eggs and liked it. This place seems to be a morning coffee spot for older locals, which should be some indication that they are doing something right. read more

This was the worst take-out experience ever! My mom ordered the American skillet, but there was nothing American about it--all she got was bacon over a pile of hashbrowns, which were barely there. The jelly was runny and old; the pancakes did not come with syrup, and toast was burnt, and a few scraps of egg...no onions or peppers as shown in the menu! My family and I have been going here for years. They revamped the menu and it just keeps getting better. Truly tastes like Mom made it. I ordered the salad with dried cranberries, pecans, tomatoes, red onions, etc. I asked them to leave off the bacon and cheese and garlic flat bread. They gave me a discount on the price for leaving off the meat. I also ordered sweet potato fries. When the salad came I noticed it did have some field greens in there with the crappy ice berg lettuce which is always nice. I was not given dressing and was asked when it was served what dressing I wanted. I had assumed I would get the dressing it came with so the raspberry vinaigrette came as a side. The tomatoes were not really ripe and still white in the center. The onion was forgotten, but the waitress kindly brought me a side dish with a bit of onions on it. It was certainly no worse than Perkins salads and a little lower priced. The fries were pretty good when I put their seasoned salt and tobasco sauce on them. They were not as greasy as at a lot of places and sort of melt in the mouth. My son had been hungry for tenderloin and after we ordered we looked over and saw the specials of the day on a board on the wall and there was tenderloins. He was pretty disappointed. I wish the waitress had shared the specials of the day with us. Everyone at our large table said their food was just okay, nothing special, but it was not expensive at all either. We had a large group and they pulled a small table up to a booth since the only larger tables they had were pulled together for a group of senior citizens. It was very hard to get in and out of the booth since they choose one in a back corner to do this with and we had a high chair at the table as well. It was kind of awkward. Definitely NOT a place to take a large family or large group. This restaurant is very small with a low counter to sit at and a lot of small booths with only a few tables. read more

First off, I didn't even get to sit down when the waiter asked me what I wanted to drink. Geez give me a second to get settled!! I don't even know what you have and I'm still standing trying to get by you into the booth. My friend ordered a simple breakfast entree and wanted sliced apples in place of pancakes because she has Celiac disease and cannot have gluten. They bring our food and hers has a roll on top of the hash browns. She immediately tells the waiter that she had ordered sliced apples. She had to send it back because the roll contaminated the hash browns. So now, I am having to eat while they fry up new hash browns. So finally they bring her food out after like 7 minutes and I ask, "where are her apples?" He replies that they will be coming out soon. Her steak was very bloody and she decided to take it home as the blood was running into her eggs, gross! Her apples aren't coming and I finally go up and say where the hell are her apples? I hear him ask the cook where they are at. Now the cook shoves them across and I say, "it's too late, she's done eating." I tell him to put them in a box and that she needs a box for her steak too. I also say that they better take something off of her bill because this is ridiculous, a half hour to shove some warm sliced apples from a can into a dish? There is a waitress nearby and she says "okay" in a very snotty tone. All the while the waiter never gave me a refill on my pop or her coffee. He comes over and finally asks her if she wants some more coffee and I ask him, "where are the apples?" He had boxed them up but didn't give them to her. He goes and gets them and asks me if I want more pop. I'm like, uh no, I don't want spit in my pop. I didn't say that but thought that so I said I didn't want any more. Needless to say, they took off a measly 10% and he got NO tip. I will NEVER go back. We stayed a half hour after closing and they were clearly upset haha. The cook left and walked by us. He was literally disgusting!!! Stay far away from this place!!! read more
