Stopped in for some donuts and I got a delicious Blackberry pie. It was delicious! I know my Wife and I will be back.

Hit or miss with quality. When it's good.. it's VERY good and when it's bad you may as well toss your money in the trash can. The pies, Danishes,puffs (fruit and cheese) and filled doughnuts are always amazing. The cream puffs are hit or miss with quality ( see pictures in my review) and that goes for the regular doughnuts too. I have been a customer for 24 years and over that period of time quality has gone from top notch to horrible to some days being the best bakery in Westmoreland county one day and the day your daughter makes better desserts in her easy bake oven. Let me break down the hits and misses over the 24 years I have been a customer: Hits- Danishes and puffs ( cheese and fruit) Snails Fresh bread and buns with English muffin bread being the best of all bread they bake! Lady locks Pies ( with a caveat, see below) Filled doughnuts Misses - Pies: the quality is very good for the most part but the handling and storage is suspect. 1. Cream and merigeine pies that have very soggy bottoms. These pies will sweat over a few days of storage so they need to monitored and when the crust starts getting soggy they need to sold at a reduced price. 2. I bought a blue berry pie that should have been thrown out due to age and mold. Doughnuts. Non filled doughnuts are inconsistent some underdone others overcooked and the rest perfect. Sticky buns: very inconsistent; 1. the tops look wonderful but the sugar burns on the bottom giving a burned flavor 2. Underdone where the centers are a bit raw and gummy. Cookies: inconsistent due to overcooked ones are mixed in with perfectly baked ones. Worth the gamble- The day old rack. You know what you are getting is not the same day fresh made item but the deep discount makes it worth the money. Overall if I don't see fresh Danishes, puffs or lady locks I will check the day old rack and if it's empty I usually leave empty handed. I am not totally dumping on the place because the young adults do a great but sometimes inconsistent job. The place would be better with owner involvement and oversight or maybe a manager to insure top quality on all items each day. read more

Donuts are good but the chocolate chip and m&m cookies are very bland. Taste like they forgot some ingredients. Service was good but they need better recipes. read more

The Country Pie Shop is the only standalone bakery in our area, and I think that might be the problem. It's a take it or leave it situation, as though we are the only option in town so quality isn't important, it seems as though everything is overcooked or overcooked. We always hit this place up after we go skiing or after camping in Laurel Hill Hill State Park. The pies are amazing, especially the blueberry and raspberry. The crust is buttery and flaky and they are oh so fresh. The other items other than the cinnamon bun which is incredible, are just ok. But you really can't beat the charm of this cute little shop. The employees are always kind. 4 stars because they could improve their other offerings. Get yourself a blueberry pie if you can. They sell out quick! read more

I visited the Donegal store. We purchased a few cookies and a Danish. All were good, but I've had better. The Danish was a little dry. Everything in the cases looked good though. The lady that helped us wasn't the most pleasant. She seemed somewhat irritated to wait on us. Maybe it was just a bad day for her? I am a self proclaimed bakery expert. I stop all over as a traveling salesperson at mom & pops to support & usually enjoy amazing pastries. Unfortunately everything I tasted was off in either texture, freshness or taste. I couldn't figure out why. But nothing tasted like I expected. Prob won't stop again. I hate to hurt a business but for me I was not even close to enjoying it. A sweet young lady waited on me. She was the highlight but sadly the food was not. read more

I drove 45 minutes today to pick up pies as I was meeting friends in MY PLEASANT. My first time to Mt pleasant pa. Parked my car ran in as my bladder was full and I asked for the restroom and the woman said go to WALMART! I said I drove 45 minutes I came for 4 pies but I need to pee...she said go to Walmart! first of all I have never been to this Rea I would need GPS to get me there and gosh a bucket would be an option. Wow just wow.. I left cuz I had to really go. Found a gas station, did not buy pies... not interested. People that don't help others I cannot support... go to Walmart like go to H e double l. Never again.. and when I got to see my friends they all put country pie OFF their list... from me to you go to WALMART! read more

If you want to waste your money and 50/50 chance what you are buying is stale. I gave them more then enough chances. I will support other local bakers. I won't waste my money, time and frustrations with this bakery. They have been baked goods for sale that are stale and disgusting. A hidden gem in western Pennsylvania. They actually have 2 locations with the original location being in Donegal, PA. I had the special honor of having a birthday cake prepared for me from their bakery. So fresh and amazingly good. I still long to have more of it, but the location is not that convenient for this Manhattanite! And having been there a number of times, I can safely say that they excel not only in cakes. We stopped at the Country Pie Shoppe on our way home from Pittsburgh. We bought a lot of stuff, but no pies. :) We bought a loaf of the cinnamon bread and brought it home to make french toast. It was really great. We bought a couple of the cinnamon rolls - they were great warmed up with some ice cream. We also bought a couple different donuts. I have had coconut cream pies all over the country for dessert. I recently purchased on from The Country Pie Shoppe and it was the lightest coconut cream, with the nice lightly crisp crust, no soggy crust and nice high meringue lightly browned. Special treat. read more

I'm a frequent buyer of the Pittsburgh area bakeries and I'm known to travel just for a sweet snack. I drive 6 hours just to get Termini brothers cannolis in Philadelphia. This trip to the Country Pie Shoppe in Mount Pleasant was a 55 minute drive. I have to be honest, I was disappointed from the first bite. First thing I ordered was a mini peach pie. While I wasn't expecting a homemade peach pie with fresh picked fruit like I make, having some peaches would have been nice. I'm talking a pie the size of my palm and I have big hands, two peach slices, 2!!! Crust was ok, normal store bought pie filling if you can consider an empty pie having filling. I actually laughed with my first bite, I turned it around to show my wife the gaping cavern between the double pie crust. We ordered the usual cupcake which was pretty much equivalent to any local grocery store. A peanut butter cookie that clearly had the taste of generic peanut butter, I tried to give it to me dog but she to didn't want a hard stale cookie. So you ask why 2 stars then, I had one item that was well above average from the Country pie shoppe. They serve this small cinnamon roll wrapped in pie crust, it was delicious and I wish I would have ordered the whole tray. Sadly I will not travel 55 minutes to get anything from this bakery again but if I happen to be in the area I'll definitely stop in and get me some more of those cinnamon treats. read more

Me and my wife love to travel and eat. I thought they would be ok, not great. A few apple or cherry pies, etc. I was so pleasantly wrong. The cream puffs were big but delicate in taste and texture. Both the apricot and raspberry Danish we good were good. Even if you live an hour away from this place, the drive is worth it. Mad respect to this place. read more

I used to love the Mt. Pleasant location but I am sorry to say I will no longer waste my money shopping here! As of the last few months the service is POOR and the products are stale. I thought maybe it was an isolated issue, but when you continue to get stale donuts week after week that is not an isolated problem. I have also gone in and literally waited for over ten minutes for someone to appear, while the phone is ringing off the hook, other customers are walking out and then I WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE RUNG THE BELL!!! I believe this individual needs training in not only customer service but in baking fresh products as well. read more
