So off I drive on this Saturday night, having a strange familiar feeling. You see I've never been a wealthy fellow but back around 2009, I bought an expensive suit - to me it was expensive - at $800.00. As I pull up to Westfield Tailers, it hit me. This was the place I bought that expensive suit from a little Italian Wizard of a tailor. Not long after, I got in a tough car accident - suit was drenched in blood and lost to the ages. So tonight I walk into this same shop but now an older black gentleman comes out. At first he was a tad cranky and it had been a long day and he convinced me to return Sunday morning. But then we started talking like we'd known each other forever. He about his beloved Trinidad and his business paths to this shop and his son and more. Now I read the Yelp reviews and some were harsh - complaining he didn't do work on time. Well let me tell you: I showed up at 9:50 am on this sterling yellow Sunday morning and not two minutes later did he unlock the door. As cheery a greeting as I've had in some time: "I wouldn't want to let you down! It's all done - I just have to iron it!" So back we went to the spacious back work area filled with top of the line Juki sewing machines and various pieces of clothing he was working on. And there we stood, two fellows, one of Danish stock, one of Trinidadian, talking like brothers of some familiar kind - both seeing the world from the same empathetic lens. And as I left, freshly pressed suit in hand, he said generously that I'd made him feel the best he's felt all week. Too kind he was and I reminded him later that Sunday, the best was yet to come - time with his son. Tailors are a million dollars a dozen - the good ones. Mr. Thomas Charles is one of the good ones. And when put on this new suit tomorrow, I'll look all the better for the love and care put into its tailoring.

If you want just want a simple alteration (e.g. pants shortened), you may want to go to one of the many local dry cleaners and pay under $20. Joe will charge you $50 to do the same thing. Put another way, going to Joe for a simple alteration, would be like going to a $1,500/hour lawyer to help with a parking ticket. He can certainly handle it, but you'll pay for more expertise than you might need. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Rocco is a fantastic man, and has been patient with me through the whole process when creating my custom tuxedo for my wedding. I am a very picky person, and Rocco was super patient with me when I was being nitpicky with every detail, from the type of fabric to even the width of the lapel! I went to Rocco back before COVID around January 2020. Due to COVID, my fiancée and I had to postpone our wedding from October 2020 to September 2021. From January 2020 till now, Rocco has gone above and beyond trying to find the type of fabric I was looking for in my custom tuxedo. He even purchased swatches all the way from Vienna (super expensive) just so we could go over the selections of fabric and I could choose which one was the best! It took us 7 months to finally pick the fabric, and when you look at the pictures of the final result, it's everything that I could possibly ask for. Why is no one ever at the register to greet customers? In 47 years of getting my clothing cleaned,…read moreI have never seen a more empty store front. Is there a single business out there that leaves their registers completely unmanned? The owner seems inattentive, unfocused, and bothered by customers being there. She seems to be focused on chatting away with the people behind the store front. Everyone who is at the registers tries to get you to leave quickly, but they take forever to even come to the front, if they even realize you are there at all. There are obviously more people in the back, because when there is a line, more people appear. Why do they wait for the store to be packed full to appear? Why are there two or three of us waiting for one person at the register, when there are clearly more people in the back, just chatting away? Why is it that not a single person employed at this store (with one exception) seems to know where anything is? Every time, whether it is my order or someone next to me, they have to check the camera for something. Is nobody keeping track of anything? The only good person there is the older tall gentleman with graying hair that shows up occasionally to the register. He seems to know where everything is and will always smile. Hopefully he is the owner's husband, because he seems to be the only one that can do anything.

When I questioned how we were going to financially fix this problem as the dress was ruined and I now had to buy a new one the second tailor became rude and aggressive. This circular conversation continued to waver between gremlins were responsible and nasty, aggressive behavior until I realized this situation was getting ugly. I don't operate at that level, so I paid and left. They got their money and that's all they cared about, so beware!
