Major disappointment!…read more After being a loyal client of West End Animal Clinic for over 5.5 years, I am deeply saddened and disappointed by the lack of compassion shown during a medical crisis. I arrived at 5:55 PM, just minutes before the clinic's posted 6:00 PM closing time, with my 18-year-old dog who had taken a sudden and severe downturn. During his afternoon walk, he collapsed in my driveway and began shallow breathing. I rushed him to the clinic in distress. The receptionist mouthed through the door that they were closed and did not allow me inside, despite the clearly posted hours. I sat outside in tears, holding my dog. I am grateful to Alex, the veterinary technician, who came to the door, listened to my dog's breathing, checked his mouth, and advised me to go to an emergency hospital. However, I was told the veterinarian was already gone for the day. I was handed a piece of paper listing emergency hospitals without addresses, leaving me to frantically search in my car to determine which location was closest while my dog continued to suffer. During this time, the side door opened and Dr. Russo was exiting the building clearly unaware that I was still there. She did not approach my car, check on my dog, or offer assistance. The lack of compassion and urgency in this moment was devastating. After years of bringing three dogs to this clinic and spending thousands of dollars, I expected at least basic humanity during a crisis. The end result: I drove over an hour to an emergency hospital. My dog was euthanized within 30 minutes of arrival. This experience has permanently broken my trust. When a medical emergency occurs, especially at the end of a beloved pet's life, compassion should not stop at quitting time. I will never return to this clinic.

Last visit, they were supposed to do the anal gland expression, and they forgot. As I was about to leave, the nurse tells me that they forgot to do it, and they would do it now (before I left their office). I agreed, and they did it. Next, they charged me again for the anal expression, and then told me that next time it's included as part of the charge for the visit. This contradicts what they just did, in that they charged me for the visit and medication that they pushed to sell, and then they charged me for the anal gland expression they forgot to do during the visit. Then, my dog has been on heartguard and nexguard since he was adopted in December 2023. The order is set to autofill every six months. Today, they call me to tell me they can't fill my dog's heartguard because they want to charge me before refilling his medication. Disgraceful level of service. The staff appears to be nice, but they are being pushed by their owners, Dr. Medera and Mrs Rivera to focus on generating revenue over providing an acceptable level of care. There is a line between generating revenue and focusing on providing care, but when you push sales of things that are not needed, overcharge for services that were already paid for, and withhold medication when my dog has been under their care for so long, it is unacceptable and down right despicable. I will find a veterinarian that actually cares about their patients.

Don't let the appearance fool you. The vet and the technicians that assist her are competent, caring, compassionate and truly LOVE animals. My frenchie has had issues with ear infections and they actually took the time to teach me how to correctly clean the ear and I even practiced cleaning one of her ears in front of them. I'm extremely happy I found them. The walls may not be freshly painted but who cares? What matters is that my dogs receive the best care and that's exactly what both got.

The farthest thing on our minds was that we would have to make the gut wrenching decision of putting our Dexter to sleep. Obviously this was not planned so I had no time to plan how we would remember our him. We walked in with a family member and walked out with tears and a leash on hand. Today we get the mail, to my surprise it's a personalized handwritten note from Dr Huff and Dexters paw print. Although we feel like the world was spinning and everything moved so fast, one thing I will never forget was how kind and the overall treatment we received. We called Lap of Love and they were responsive, kind, understanding and thoughtful. They made the process of saying goodbye about saying goodbye and about doing what was best for our canine friend. Communication was excellent and the hospice veterinarian who came to our home was loving and empathetic. Most importantly, she reinforced that we were doing the right thing at the right time, in Biscuit's best interests. Lap of Love made it possible for us to focus on our dog's happiness and comfort during the final weeks of his life, and for us to focus on our own grief now that he has left us.
