For obvious reasons, if you are reading this, I offer you my sympathy. It is not easy to bid farewell to a loved one. After 16 years, it was time for us to say goodbye to our beloved Biscuit. He had a malignant tumor and, after trying every available therapy, it was clear that his condition was terminal. We called Lap of Love and they were responsive, kind, understanding and thoughtful. They made the process of saying goodbye about saying goodbye and about doing what was best for our canine friend. Communication was excellent and the hospice veterinarian who came to our home was loving and empathetic. Most importantly, she reinforced that we were doing the right thing at the right time, in Biscuit's best interests. I wish I didn't need this service but I am thankful it exists. We took my sweet Stewie to the emergency vet and got bad news. We opted to take him home and spend time with him. The following morning, he wasn't doing any better. It was a Sunday morning and I didn't know what to do but I knew that I couldn't take him back to the vet. I heard about lap of love from a friend. We called on Sunday morning (must have been around 8:30). The lady who answered took down all the necessary information. She was very patient and kind. Within two hours, Dr Matt had arrived. He called about 30 minutes before arriving to let us know he was on the way. When he arrived, there was a gentle knock on the door (I appreciated that he did not ring the bell). Dr Matt was gentle, compassionate, and said all the right words in this difficult time. Once Stewie had his angel wings, Dr Matt made a keepsake paw print and saved a lock of Stewie' s fur. We had to say goodbye to our dog Annie yesterday and I was so relieved that Lap of Love could come out to our house to help her cross the rainbow bridge. Annie would always get anxious going to the vet, so we knew we wanted to do this at home where she would be most comfortable. Annie was diagnosed with lymphoma about 4 months ago and did well for a really long time, but rapidly declined over the last few days so we knew it was time. Dr. Amanda Buerke was so incredibly kind and caring and took time to get to know Annie. She walked us through the entire process before she did anything so we'd know what to expect. We were able to be with Annie and pet her the entire time. After Annie was gone, Dr. Amanda gave us as much time as we wanted to sit with her and process what just happened. We also took this opportunity to bring our 2 cats out so they could see/smell her, in hopes that it would help their grieving process. Lap of Love made the second worse day of my life as comforting as possible. For anyone who thinks euthanizing your pet at home sounds bizarre, I did honestly at first too. I thought there was no way I could do that but to know that my pet was not disrupted going to the vet and being in a noisy place etc. to let him cross the rainbow bridge on the bed that he has slept in for years was truly the last act of love we could give to him. Dr. Elizabeth did his paw print and took care of all of the arrangements for us to be able to pick up his ashes at our vet. Every moment of my experience with Lap of Love was as pleasant as it could have been considering I was having to say goodbye to my dear friend and long time companion, a once (in his prime) 21.5 lbs giant kitty named Bartleby. Dr Matt arrived, giving me a (much appreciated) 40 minute heads up so I could get in my final good byes privately. He was very respectful to my sweet Bartleby -- working around whatever made him the most comfortable. He was gentle and kind and held space while I said good bye to my boy. I know holding space for grieving humans is a very hard job -- I come across it in my own work and fumble through the right things to do/say-- the level of compassion and caring these people have for animals and their human companions was evident from the very first, difficult, call. I was allowed as much time as I needed to hold my boy, say good bye and process his departure. Dr Matt placed him in a sweet little basket; we tucked him in with blankets, talked about how gorgeous he was (the cat) and when I was ready he took my boy to his next destination and arranged cremation. It's very hard to make the decision to send your fur-baby home -- but from experience I know now that it's the best thing we can do when they aren't well. I called them on a Monday and they were at my home on Tuesday, 08/03/2021. Dr. Matt was wonderful with my sweet 17.5 year old Pekingese, GIZMO. I could never had asked for a more beautiful lov8ng way to take my babies over to the rainbow bridge for them to know how much they all are loved and how much love they gave to me by allowing them to leave me in the most loving way with the help and kindness of Dr Elizabeth who help with 5 of my kidsas I called them. She was loving kind crying with me especially when she took the old married couple as we called them bailey and angel who loved each other more than any other animal I had ever had angel got sick and Bailey was not going to let her go without him so he made himself ill just to go with her it was amazing to observe even dr Elizabeth commented on it so they went together and she put the in her vehicle nose to nose in a loving kiss to each other then another one jewel followed a week later broken hearted by the loss of her two partners Bailey and angel. Then 2 more years later, yes they are exspensive but the love and peace she gave them and me in their passing was and is priceless, I have one more girl who is now 8 and I hope and pray she stays with me at least as long as my other kids they were all 16-17 years old and had an amazing life hiking mountains rivers etc. I miss them all dearly but I hope we will all be together again someday but there are many times I can feel them around me and know they are happy and healthy thanks all to lap9f love. I found Lap of Love on Google and contacted them via a form at 10pm and they had Taylor contact me and set everything up before the night was up for my beloved dog Lucy. She asked questions and even told me Lucy's orange fur sounded so beautiful. Her and Bethany helped me and were very friendly and calming and told me to have a peaceful evening. This is exactly the phone service you need during this time. On the day of Lucy's passing we had Doctor Elizabeth Gill who came out to assist us. She walked in the door and immediately got on the floor to greet Lucy who was waiting by the door. She asked some questions about Lucy's condition and called her "mama" and pet her and gave her love. Lucy instantly felt calmed by her. She sat and explained everything from the floor by our front door and I really liked that she instantly talked to Lucy and got down to her level right upon entering. After she discussed with us what would happen, she gave me a pamphlet which I put on the counter because I was in no condition to see anything, but I later will write how much this pamphlet meant to both of us. Dr. Gill asked where we wanted Lucy's final moments to be, and we chose upstairs by the balcony door she loved to look out from her dog bed. She gave us time as I read a letter I wrote for Lucy and all the time we needed before administering a sedative to calmly make her fall asleep. We opened the bedroom balcony door and let the breeze come inside and feel like Lucy was outside from the comfort of her bed. As Doctor Gill administered the sedative she told us it may take 10 minutes for her to become sleepy but she will slowly doze off and she pet her the entire time with us and gave her comfort and love just like we were and she felt part of the family. She comforted the two of us as we cried and even got us tissues . We told Lucy how much she was loved as she went from awake and fully alert to drowsy and then eventually sleepy as her eyes closed and she lowered her head. Doctor Gill then confirmed she was asleep by touching her paws and the moving her fingers between her paw pads to make sure she wasn't going to only be slightly sleepy and that she wouldn't feel any pain and she checked her eyes while she touched her paws to make sure Lucy was fully asleep. Lucy had a slight snore to her as she was in her sleep. Doctor Gill told us that whenever we were ready she would administer the final thing that would help our Lucy on her journey home. As she administered it she spoke to Lucy like we would and pet her and comforted her with us as we cried and said our Goodbye's to Lucy and reminded her how good of a girl she was over all the years, it was so sad but Doctor Gill was very comforting and so calm and loving during Lucy's final moments. Lucy didn't react during the euthanasia product, she breathed normally and took a final breath and she stopped. After a minute or so she checked for her heart rate and listened to her chest and confirmed that Lucy had passed on... She then shaved a fur sample and put it in a container for us to keep. She also took her paw and created a beautiful clay imprint of her paw after she had passed... I cannot express how peaceful this was. This was a very hard decision for us and this was so peaceful for Lucy and I couldn't have asked for a better setting or person to help us. After Lucy had passed she left us alone for a few minutes and went to her vehicle to get a stretcher and brought a stretcher up to take her down. We helped move Lucy from her bed to the stretcher and she had a beautiful purple blanket with dogs on it (and I cannot express how thankful I was that it was a soft plush blanket and not a basic sheet) that she covered her with, and she strapped her in. I asked her if we cover her head and she told me "no, I like to leave their head uncovered so it's like she is sleeping". She asked for help down the stairs with Lucy since she was a large dog, and we insisted that we carry her out of the home on the stretcher as we brought her into the home and would like to be the ones to lead her out. We commented that Lucy's ears had perked up after her passing and Doctor Gill expressed that "I'd like to think that it's from the excitement of her new surroundings". We loaded Lucy into the car and she allowed us to say our final goodbye's and she gave us both a hug. We waved goodbye and she waved back as she left with Lucy. This process was very peaceful, and loving. I couldn't thank Doctor Elizabeth Gill enough!! Their after care pamphlet was so nice and filled with poems and letters to help you grieve all written by their staff and the letter from your pet about their passing was so beautiful. Even their receipt was itemized as "angel wings" as the service provided to Lucy. They included a certificate saying that Lucy had left this world on today's date, and it was worded so sweet and peaceful. I was so appreciative we used this service. We called and we were able to get a same day appointment, thankfully, as our old girl was in respiratory distress. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the vet that came out. It was very awkward but she did her job and my baby seemed to pass comfortably. Dr Sonja, came into our home and first thing she said: "you were lucky to get this appointment". While I think I know what she meant, I mean really.......lucky? There could have been a better choice of words. Dr. Sonja then proceeded to say that I am going to tell you exactly what I am going to do no matter how many times you have heard this- again, very black and white. And finally we told her that our dog was fine before our trip from Chicago to Fl and after that, she just went downhill. Her words were "you know what they say about moving grandma". Really???? So, while Dr. Sonja did her job, it is apparent she doesn't know how to show compassion. I definitely want compassion when I am letting my soul mate of almost 14 years go and I want that pat on the back too. read more

Losing our precious family dog to cancer was an absolute horror story but it had a better ending than it could have because we decided to call Lap of Love and end his suffering in our home instead of a cold veterinary office. In June I came home from work to find my senior kitty Squishy laying on the bathroom floor, alive but just barely. My Squishy was 19 and had been having many health issues this pass year so although I wasn't surprised, I was still devastated. I called Lap of Love in tears and the lady that answered the phone was the nicest ever. The vet that called also was equally as nice and although her schedule was already packed she still tried to accommodate us and scheduled us extra early in the morning. Unfortunately, squishy didn't make it pass that evening and she died in my arms. The vet who euthanized my cat, Dr. Maite Santos-Torres, was very insensitive and unkind. She shot my cat with the sedative quickly pushing the plunger on the syringe and my cat cried out in pain. Of course, we all know it hurts more when the shot is put in quickly instead of when it is administered while taking a few seconds so that it does not hurt as much. It was incredibly insensitive and unkind to put him in pain the last few minutes of his life so she could save a few seconds of her time. Then, she immediately started asking me questions for her paperwork in the last few seconds and minutes I had with my cat being aware and semi-awake as the medicine sedated him. How insensitive it was of her to ask me questions for her paperwork instead of letting me have these last few seconds and minutes to focus on my kitty. Afterwards, I told her how displeased I was. She denied what she had done as if I had not had my arms around my cat and saw from inches away how quickly she emptied the syringe into him. Her paperwork focus instead of letting me have a few seconds to focus on my cat while he was still somewhat aware of me holding him was inexcusable. I will never use these people again. She argued it was "surprise" that my cat cried out in pain.
