We didn't want to drive much further. It was getting late so I looked for a hotel in the Des Moines area. This popped up right off the freeway so we decided to give it a try. As we walked in, we immediately noticed all the nice decor and artwork. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays as well. The front desk attendant was very nice and quickly got us settled down we would have time to grab a bite to eat before the kitchen closed. The room was nice and clean. Bed & pillows very comfortable. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Robes! We liked all the modern touches. My only issue is what I have with almost all hotels. While I very much appreciate a coffee maker in the room, hotels always add decaf coffee instead of additional regular coffee. Who drinks decaf? So you need to make the extra trip downstairs to ask for regular coffee. We went to the bar/restaurant downstairs for drinks, a bite to eat and to watch Thursday night football. First, the bar is very cool with a pool table and several TV's. Nice wall art and comfortable barstools. Sadly, they don't offer any streaming of any kind in this hotel so there was no way to watch the NFL games on their TV's at the bar or in the rooms. Fortunately, I was able to get it in my phone app but could not project to their regular TV's. Our bartenders were Eddie at first, then Tyler who took over towards the end of the night. Both bartenders were super attentive and friendly. For food, we ordered the Burrata, chicken wings and the Revel Flatbread. The wings were nice and crispy, the burrata yummy and the flatbread was thin and crispy. All were actually delicious which I wouldn't normally expect from a small hotel. Very nice! The hotel offers a free buffet breakfast to guests as well as made to order. Honestly the buffet breakfast has everything from hot to cold. It has a toaster and microwave if needed. It was quite a spread. Plenty of juice & milk varieties. The food was delicious. They also offer free bottled water if you run out of water in the room. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. We were probably two if twenty guests in the hotel which was very surprising as it is a decent price for what you receive overall as a guest. I would definitely recommend the hotel if you are passing through.

The Revel Hotel is a beautiful, relatively new boutique hotel that is part of Hilton's Tapestry collection. The hotel pays homage to local Midwest culture in an elegant and visually stunning way. From the lobby's western decor to the minor details within the guest rooms, no detail was spared in the design of this space. It boasts modern amenities while preserving the classic perks folks love, including complimentary breakfast for hotel guests. There is a restaurant and bar on-site, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and staying open late for drinks. The only downside is that the bar and lobby are located in the same area, and at least on the weekend we visited, it got a bit loud in the evening, which made me feel bad for any rooms on the first floor. To play it safe, if you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend a room on a higher floor. I also wasn't too fond of the fact that there is no pool on this property. If you'd like to use the pool, you must walk over to the neighboring "Hotel Renovo", which is their sister hotel, use your key card, bring your room towels, use the pool, and then walk back. This commute is a bit inconvenient, especially when traveling with little ones and older adults, which is the only reason I didn't award this stay five stars. The hospitality here was fantastic. We were warmly greeted by a young lady named Tania, who went above and beyond to ensure our welcome and stay were nothing short of spectacular. She texted me before our arrival to ask if there were anything we would need, as well as throughout our stay to check in and provide any assistance if needed. She greeted us with complimentary, ice-cold water bottles. I loved and appreciated all of those touches. Check-in was uncomplicated through the Hilton app. All Tania confirmed was my identity using my ID and provided physical key cards if we wanted them. Otherwise, we could use the mobile key cards accessible through the Hilton app. Less than 15 mins! Check-out was equally as simple; no need to stop by the front desk if you used the app. Our stay was so exceptional that I've considered returning exclusively to enjoy the hotel and all its amenities thoroughly. Until I return, I'm recommending them to anyone who finds themselves in this neck of the woods.

There are several other businesses on the first floor accessed from outside including a bank which is convenient. Trips to DSM usually have me downtown or in West Des Moines. Was just nice being in a different part of the city. I ended up enjoying lunch one day at the Drake Diner. Another evening I got food from Gurshan Ethiopian. Loved both. Appreciate the Home 2 concept. Nice having a kitchenette if you'll be there several days. Really liked having a few place settings and all. Also like that there was a patio with grills, tables. Would totally take that on. Breakfast was pretty standard quick grab something. They did have it so you could make a breakfast sandwich. Great seating areas inside and out, even held a business meeting in the lobby cause it felt so welcoming and comfortable. Only criticism, for some reason there seemed to be a lot of bees in the parking lot. Guessing the cold snap had them disoriented or something but they seemed to be everywhere one morning.

The second night we actually called the front desk to ask them to help but the noise never stopped. Just a thought if your putting a team of 8 year old football players in a room maybe don't put them on a top floor. On the last night of our stay we return to our hotel around 10 and our key did not work. We went to the front desk to resolve and the night attendant was about as friendly as a wet raccoon locked out of its dumpster house. Don't remember her name but pink hair and started with a K- real peach of a lady. Instead of listening to the issue she insisted we were in a different room sending us upstairs to an empty room even though we had the envelope with the room number on it- we entertained the nonsense and sure enough she sent us to the wrong room forcing us to go back down to explain again to find out that we were correct all along. After almost 30 mins we finally were given a working key to our correct room. To top off the experience, when we get back up to the room it smells like hot diarrhea- not saying this for effect. It actually smells like straight ass and onions in here. We could go back and battle it out with the snippy front desk lady again but doubt she will be helpful at this point. 100% do not recommend this hotel, we've been loyal Hilton Honors members for years and this was enough to make me switch to another brand.

For an airport location Garden Inn, this is as good as it's gonna get. Reserve your room now, you'll be pleased.

From the very beginning trying to book over the phone they were rude and mumbled on the phone. I asked for a confirmation, and it was a total pain to get that sent over. I originally booked 2 queen beds. I get a call from the hotel the day we are supposed to arrive and they want to move us to a king bed instead. Saying "the shower in the 2 bed was broken" Frustrated but out of options I accepted. I also confirmed with staff on multiple occasions that because we're coming from out of state we will be there in the AM hours sometime after 2. They said it was no problem When we arrived at 3:30am they told us we were late. And started being extremely rude. He came out of his back room in his underwear to check us in. I was appalled. The first 2 keys they gave us didn't work. The 3rd also didn't and finally the 4th did. Our room stunk to high heavens. The pillow cases looked like they had been slept on. The walls and microwave were dirty. And it was just an awful experience from start to finish. Don't waste your time or money. For the prices we paid we should have been met with a friendly staff, a clean, nice smelling room. And the beds we originally booked. At this point I'm not even sure you can call this a hotel. Maybe a disgrace is a better word.

I think my mattress could stand to be replaced, but I still got a great night's sleep. It was quiet and peaceful. Good location. And the staff was amazing, so friendly!! There is a small playground by the hotel and the Ankeny public library is also within walking distance. We booked two rooms with king-sized beds for our stay. The rooms are slightly smaller than the other Hilton king-size bedrooms that we have stayed at. But it is enough space for our purposes and it is equipped with a mini refrigerator, desk, and small bench. The mini refrigerator has an upper "freezer" section but it did not serve its purpose and our reusable ice-packs did not freeze up. The complimentary bathroom toiletry is interesting. They are squirt bottles attached to the wall and there are instructions indicating a gentle squeeze would do. But it never seems to work properly. It's either too little or too much. We had to ask for room service to replenish a few items. It seemed like they were short-staffed because we ended up going downstairs to pick up the items. There is complimentary parking and breakfast. Breakfast is served from 6 am to 10 am. We had a variety of the usual eggs, potatoes, sausages, and baked goods. There is also a pancake, waffle, and cereal station. The staff was efficient in keeping up with the demand. We also made use of the indoor pool on both nights around 8 pm. There were other young children in the pool with us but everybody was friendly and it did not feel over-crowded.
