Update. A can was dropped off the very next day. I'm still not super thrilled about the way it was handled but everything is working as it should as of the update. Just signed up for County Waste service after moving to Midlothian. Very unhappy thus far with their service. I originally had two CW cans at my home. Called them to start service when I moved in. I assumed one can was for trash and one for recycling. Wrong. They don't do recycling. Instead of picking up both cans on garbage day they just left a full one at my house. I called and was told they don't do recycling. I asked them to pick up the extra can. The following week they removed both cans, now I have zero. I called customer service to ask for a can back on Friday and they transferred me to "dispatch". They dropped my call and turned on the "our business hours" automated message. I called back on Monday. Told my story again. Was again transferred to "dispatch". Was advised they would get a can out to me this week "some time before garage pick up day". Not good enough at this point. There are other companies who service the area who will deliver a can next day. If I don't have a can tomorrow from CW I will call their competitors. needed I had County Waste, and despite some complaints, we decided to keep their service because the sales representative was excellent, and we wanted to support him. However, my trash has consistently not been picked up on time. We had to make multiple calls, and the excuse was always that the driver claimed the can wasn't out, which was incorrect every time. Today, February 20, 2025, I canceled my service because this is the third week my trash hasn't been picked up, with the driver giving the same excuse. Now, they added that due to bad weather, some routes were canceled, and my trash won't be picked up until next week, making it four weeks. Despite being on time with my payments, the company's excuses and unprofessionalism are unacceptable. I canceled immediately after this situation and told the customer service manager they need to investigate their driver because he blatantly lied and never came to my address on all the occasions I called. I was a County Waste customer for over 5 years with only minor issues. Then last fall they suddenly were just nowhere to be found. Not picking up trash, no one ever answered the phones, no one responded to emails. After trying to contact them for 3 months without A SINGLE RESPONSE I called Choice Waste and signed up with them. It was Choice Waste that was able to provide me with an email address they had confirmed would process the cancelation. It took County Waste 2 months to pick up their trash can and they had the nerve to charge me for the months they let it sit here!!!! I tried emailing the same email address with no luck, but I will now have to take it to court because they sent me another bill!!!!! I need to cancel my services with them due to moving out of state. I can't get a soul to answer the damn phone. I have been calling all day. All calls combined, I have probably been on hold for 2 hours. This is ridiculous. You can't cancel through their website. I am so disturbed on the service of this company. I have called on several occasions about driver getting out of the vehicle to pick up the five trash bags. I am allotted they were late picking up. My trash stayed outside for the whole day until nightfall. The route that I am on they need to be discipline this driver. They do not care about the customer. Last Monday Jan 24th the trash pickup occurred and my trash can got dumped into the truck. So, I call the company and the customer service rep said a new can would be delivered Friday. Well no trash can came. I made another call that Friday and the rep said the trash can would come Saturday, which it didn't. Well this Monday the 31st. , I called again at 8:30 am and spoke to a Kirsten who said she would call a supervisor to get an answer. At 2:30 pm I called again and this female was completely unhelpful. She refused to let me speak to Kirsten or a supervisor stating that a supervisor wouldn't respond for 24-48 hours. Additionally a supervisor wouldn't be able to help me either as they had no power over a third party they contract to deliver the trash cans. WOW ! I was told that maybe sometime this week my trash can may be delivered. When I told the female my trash was piling up, she said they could do a work order to pickup the trash bags, next week on Monday Feb 7th. So, I wait 2 weeks. This was providing me with residential trash services at our new home. We provided them with our information on July 15, 2021 to transfer the account from the previous owner to us. When we moved in on July 21, the can was there and they were regularly collecting the trash. Four weeks later, they took our can during weekly pickup. I've noticed for the last few months that the wait times were long, but I stood with it, as I knew we were in a pandemic and they might have a customer representative shortage. This month broke that. Another review on this garbage company. Once again CW has failed to make their weekly pickup in my neighborhood. I called and, once again, was on hold for more than 30 minutes before my call was answered. The excuse this time was a broken down truck and no spare truck to use. Evidently they have no intention of trying to get out and make the collection, they just decided to skip last week! They do not notify their customers when they fail to DO THEIR JOB. As a matter of fact, a customers only recourse when their trash is not picked up is to call, wait on an extended hold (over 30 minutes this time), and then you will receive an excuse and maybe a credit for a week. For the past month or so, County Waste has not been picking up our trash. In 4 weeks they've picked up one time. The one time I was able to stay on hold long enough to get through to someone, it took two hours of waiting, I was assured they'd come the next day to pick up - and they didn't. I've emailed several times, and rarely get a response. They're nearly impossible to contact, and extremely unreliable. We currently have 3 weeks of trash sitting at the street, where it has been for a couple of weeks. Would not recommend at all - it's really clear that they do not care whether or not the bin is picked up, and they don't refund for not rendering services. This company is All about money and not service. Our can was broken and needed replacing it took several months to make that happen and when it did the can they brought was worse than the one I had. This can is so disgusting that it makes me sick to walk by it and it's in the driveway of my house since it is a dumpster for my small business. I tried to cancel my service and they would not allow it so I'm still going with another company however even with the lack of customer service they are going to make me deal with this nasty can until my contract is up. I see now why they make you sign a contract. It's the only way to keep a customer around. If there was any alternative to this company, I would use it. I've almost quit the service several times and carted my trash to the landfill for free. They've created ruts in my yard turning their vehicle. They forget to pick up frequently. The one time I forgot to make a payment I called and promised to make a double payment as soon as i received my bill. Been trying to figure out over the last few years what exactly County Waste's business is because it sure isn't reliable garbage pickup. Was with them for over 12 years with plenty of hiccups over the last 4 years since the acquisition from GFL but always gave them the benefit of the doubt. Never in my life have I ever spoken with such rude and unhelpful customer service representatives at the local office if you can even call them that when you spend a minimum of an hour trying to reach someone assuming you don't get disconnected in the process. Did they miss your weekly pick up? Well clearly it's you, the customer's fault in their opinion and refuse to give any service credits for doing so. They had the audacity to tell me since the previous week's garbage was picked up in the following week's collection, they considered it as picked up on schedule. That doesn't make any sense since the garbage can was so full from the previous week I couldn't add anything for the following week's collection. Bulk / small appliance pickup (for an additional fee)? Nope! County Waste has suspended that service for quite some time and tells me they have no ETA on when they will resume it. So what exactly is it County Waste provides as a service? I sure haven't been able to figure it out. Switched to Choice a few months ago and couldn't be happier! On a final note, County Waste obviously doesn't care about their customers. They provided the quickest cancellation I have ever witnessed for a routine recurring service with no attempt to keep me and plenty of other former people as their loyal customer who never reached out to them for assistance until recently when it was actually needed... and they failed at doing the most basic part of their job. read more

I had County Waste for trash service for 7 weeks. During that 7 weeks, they managed to pick up my trash once. Every other week I had to call. I was given endless excuses, always with an attitude, stemming from I had cancelled my service to it was a substitute driver that didn't know he was supposed to stop. Each time I spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with these people. The last time they said it would be Monday before anyone could come out (normal pickup is Wednesday) Not worth the time or stress involved. We started with Value Waste at $18.95/month and never had a problem. Then, County Waste took over Value Waste. Service has remained dependable and reliable, but I just found out we are $5 past due because they raised our rate $2.50/mo without any notice in FEBRUARY. We paid the $5, but now we are reassessing our options. We are also bummed that they don't provide recycling pickup. Ok. They bought out Traynham (correct spelling??) Refuse a couple of years back. Besides a fairly high price for what it is, it used to be ok. About a year ago, I had some extra bags of refuse. So as I heard the truck approach the house I went out. I asked the individual what I should do. He stated that I could put up to four bags of refuse out, 12 to 18 inches to the left of the CW trash container. No problem. That only happened 2 or three times since then. So, yesterday I put out my normal container, plus one small bag and a VERY small plastic DVD holder that didnt fit in the full container. They were lying right where I had them before-- about a foot from the contaier. I yelled for him, and he kept on driving away. I then called and talked with a young female answering their phones. I explained what happened. She rudely stated that they need to be notified in advance of this. Bull Crap. I never have had to before! So, I simply switched to Choice, and my new can was delivered the next day. County Waste has yet to pick up theirs yet. I hope they do it soon.. I should have checked the YELP! reviews a long time ago. First on County Waste, then on Choice. Would have switched sooner. I am very frustrated with this company. They have overlooked picking up my recycling three times (every other week service) in the past few months. Because I have been through this several times, today I called twice before closing time to make sure they were coming. I was reassured they'd be by. Again, not keeping their word. I am paying for a service that they do not render. Plus, once they tried to convince me that "my can must have been blocked" or "maybe it wasn't out there in time." I put the can out the night before. There is nothing at the end of my driveway except for the can. If you have other companies to choose from, I highly suggest NOT choosing County Waste. I would have given zero stars if it had been an option! Since being bought out by GFL, there customer service has drastically declined! There customer service call center is a joke, you are put on hold and disconnected, 9/10 times you can't get anyone to answer and when you go to the corporate website, it directs you back to the local office and no one answers the phone and if they do you are put on hold and then the call will be disconnected. When you do get to a real person or supervisor and they say that it will be addressed and corrected and it doesn't happen and you have to go back through the cycle again to get someone on the phone! Trash is not being picked up, and by the reviews it happening a lot, but you know what is not missed, their customers being billed and them getting paid! Their recycling is usually less predictable than their trash pick up. Before the GFL buy out, they were much more dependable. Do not use county waste for trash removal service!! They do not pick up consistently and you must fight with customer service (if you can get ahold of them) to be reimbursed the money they have taken without picking up trash on scheduled days. They do not have an emergency line, as advertised on their website, and arbitrarily come up with rules such as "not picking up more than five bags of leaves" when you call to complain they left bagged leaves on the curb for over a month. When you speak to management/supervisors they are quick to tell you they will send a truck out the next day for trash removal however, that never happens and you can never speak to the same person two days in a row. I live in Stafford and my neighbors have had the same issues with county waste leaving trash behind, missing scheduled waste removal, and lack of customer support. Save yourself a headache and use one of the other options out there. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE. Recently a local company we used, Time Disposal, was purchased by County Waste, which is somehow connected to this conglomerate beast called GFL. Connections between the two companies is absolutely confusing, their websites an uncertain labyrinth of contact info that is never responded to, and AWFUL customer service. They missed our can and never came back. After finally getting a human being following HOURS of waiting on the phone, though they promised a pick-up, it never happened. I noticed one or two other families on our street with the same problem. Based on all the recent complaints to BBB from around our area in August, things are definitely going down there. Not sure why, but their service is terrible and since there is no other company in the area to go with, seems we're doomed to suffer under their filth as our trash becomes a mountain of suffering for all to see on the street. read more

When Country Waste our service was reliable. Since acquisition by GFL collection and customer service has dramatically deteriorated.

My HOA requires backyard pick up. I used to wash out my can monthly to prevent flies and maggots but stopped because they would take my can as a filler for other houses and bring back nasty cans. They did this to save time instead of rolling every one's can down they used mine to fill up. Recently they lost a bid for a single contract in our neighborhood and wouldn't pick up all of our recycle like they used to. Don't be petty cause you over bid a contract. Why are they even in the waste pickup business? They obviously can't provide the service they bill us for. I have had ZERO pickups so far in October, and only had two in September (out of a pre-paid 4). I called customer service last Friday at 10:30am and got a recording they are having phone problems and I should call back on Monday. So I called back on Monday only to get a recording saying to "call back during regular business hours of 8 to 5, Monday through Friday". I've emailed several times and got one response after 4 days saying their records showed they've been picking up my trash and I must be not leaving my trash where they can get to it (it's always in plain site). Bottom line, I only have one other trash service option, and I'm switching to them. I can't imagine the crap I'm going to have to deal with to get a refund on the month they never picked up my trash. If you have any other choice of service for your trash, use them. County Waste never shows up at the same time. Every week a different time. Sometimes 8:30 am, sometimes 4:30 pm. They ask that our cans be out by 8 am - which is fine. Today, they claim they picked up at 6:45 am - with no notice that they were coming early. I called and now they want the cans out by 6 am. If we leave them out the night before, the bears in our neighborhood consistently tip someones cans. So now, we work for them and have to have our cans to the curb an hour an a half before the sun is even up. I also have a video of them cruising down the street and stopping at each house, so the truck logs the stops, but not taking peoples trash. Just sitting there. They then tell you that your trash was collected and they can show you the truck stopped. I had to show them the video of their guy just cruising through with no pick up for them to believe me. They sent a guy out to pick up the cans and he took my trash can and replaced it with a smaller one - with no reduction in price. These people are the pits. Their customer service is rude.
