Update. A can was dropped off the very next day. I'm still not super thrilled about the way it was handled but everything is working as it should as of the update. Just signed up for County Waste service after moving to Midlothian. Very unhappy thus far with their service. I originally had two CW cans at my home. Called them to start service when I moved in. I assumed one can was for trash and one for recycling. Wrong. They don't do recycling. Instead of picking up both cans on garbage day they just left a full one at my house. I called and was told they don't do recycling. I asked them to pick up the extra can. The following week they removed both cans, now I have zero. I called customer service to ask for a can back on Friday and they transferred me to "dispatch". They dropped my call and turned on the "our business hours" automated message. I called back on Monday. Told my story again. Was again transferred to "dispatch". Was advised they would get a can out to me this week "some time before garage pick up day". Not good enough at this point. There are other companies who service the area who will deliver a can next day. If I don't have a can tomorrow from CW I will call their competitors. Unfortunately I accidentally called the New York office for my issue and they were so kind and seemed like they were going to help me out. Bad communication all around. Before COVId they changed he pick-up day with no notice. They didn't pick up some times during COVId. That's ok, stuff happens, but they could at least communicate that information. It's the 21st century and there are text services that do that. Since County Waste was bought by GFL their service has really gone down. 1) they haven't picked up my Friday trash in two weeks; 2) their customer service is awful; they don't call back; 3) their website no longer shows the schedule for pick up. I EMPHATICALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND COUNTY WASTE! I would say County Waste, ('now a GFL company' - calling every week you will get to hear this as though it is a good thing) would be a good value...if they consistently picked up my trash. Online the GFL says it stands for Green For Life but I would say it is more appropriate that it stands for Good F(you fill in) Luck that they will service you.. I pay the extra money to have recycling picked up but when they skip you and you call, they will maybe come get it and put it in the trash. My solution was to pay a delivery fee and added fee each month to have two bins. Now I have 3 bins being ignored each week...not money well spent. This doesn't account for the hour plus each week it takes to call and let them know they once again did not pick up my trash. Next gem is recycling went to every other week...but for the same fee. I said I would pay the delivery for yet another recycle bin but would not pay the added fee yet again and was told I would not be given free service. How would that be free service- especially considering the lack of service. I cannot say enough how dissatisfied I am with this service. Frequently it is marked my trash was not out for pick up, only it had been there for a week and a half. This summer was so bad flies followed me down the drive in my car from the trash...needless to say my neighbors are becoming super fans of this service also! I would NEVER recommend this company if there was another option! They finally got me to cancel service after 2 years of family and coworkers having to listen to tinny hold music and my yap complaining. The real idiot in this scenario is me for continuing service in hopes that it would become at least 'adequate'. Don't expect a credit to be a given either when your trash is left to fester for another week...a 'work order must me approved' for this, as though they are doing you a huge favor. My frequent fantasy has become owning a large truck to deliver the bins and all of my trash to their office for them to save myself the aggregation of looking those overstuffed bins sitting at the end of the drive for yet another week. County Waste used to pick up extra yard leaf bags, but this spring, they suddenly stopped doing it, and bags were piling up in my driveway. I called the company to complain, and they said extra bags were "picked up at the driver's discretion." So that means never. In April, I canceled my service and asked for a refund on the remaining balance in my account. I have yet to receive a refund, and the company doesn't return my calls or emails. If you're new in the area, save yourself a lot of headaches and go with a different provider than County Waste or its successor GFL. read more

I didn't choose County Waste. They bought out my old company and never even informed me. Just took my old can and brought a new one. Just a couple months in with this new service, they skipped my street and didn't pick up one week. When I called them, their resolution was just to get the extra garbage the next week. They refused to credit my account for the missed pickup, or send a truck out to get it. The rep on the phone didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. Terrible service, they say trash pickup will be delayed for a day and never pick up the trash or just skip the week entirely. I am ongoing now 3 weeks without having my trash picked up and they just sent me a bill for this month. The nerve of these people! On 12/2/2021 we notified County Waste that we would no longer require their service as we were closing on the sale of our house on 12/3/2021. An individual who identified himself as "Samelly" acknowledged our cancellation and that there would be a delay. After a week, the cans were still at our neighbors house, as we did not want to have the new owners deal with the issue. Repeated emails to "Samelly" were answered with the same " . . . . there is a delay. . . .". On 12/19/2021 I informed him that after that day, I would no longer be responsible for the carts. He responded that he had a date of 12/31/2021 to have the carts removed. A follow up email from me told him that I could no longer guarantee that the carts would still be there. He was quick to point out that I would be charged $75 for each unrecovered cart. I then told him that I would assess a $20.00 a day, per cart storage fee. His response was ". . . . .there is a delay. . . ." Long story short, it is 1/11/2022, the carts are still not removed. 1/17/2022 Received response from county waste after I told them I would drop cans off at their corporate office and provide photo as proof. It was the same response with the same original typos: delays; charge for missing cans; yadda, yadda, yadda. Loser company. IMHO. read more

Do not use this service. They will leave your trash on the ground and drive away as if they are the only service around. The call center is not much better. The whole company needs an overhaul. I live in Mechanicsville. County waste changed the day of pick up. There 200 houses in my complex. Every one had the cans out on Friday but no pick up. County waste picked up on Monday. So I called and ask what's up. The first Man I spoke to called me a liar and said they sent out notices by mail. I told him my entire street had cans out on Friday so none of us got them and he again called me a liar. I told him I wanted to cancel my service he said nope. I hung up on him. I called back later in the day and spoke to woman. I told her I wanted to cancel my service and I explained why. She then told me they would pick my cans up THIS Monday and they would send me my final bill. ITS MONDAY and my cans have not been picked up. I asked the driver and he had no idea. Just an update, they again failed to pick up my trash and when I called, the dispatcher said that the driver had made a note saying that my trash can was not out there for pick up although I saw the guy drove past my trash because it had a box sitting next to it , with couple big boxes on top, he did not want to get out to pick them up. I had County Waste for trash service for 7 weeks. During that 7 weeks, they managed to pick up my trash once. Every other week I had to call. I was given endless excuses, always with an attitude, stemming from I had cancelled my service to it was a substitute driver that didn't know he was supposed to stop. Each time I spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with these people. The last time they said it would be Monday before anyone could come out (normal pickup is Wednesday) Not worth the time or stress involved. Since being taken over by GFL, you can't get anyone on the phone when trying to call customer. I have seen numerous complaints on social media. Also, the drivers are careless with the cans...there were 2 cans at last week's pick up that were turned over in the ditch (mine and a neighbor's). The lids are often left flipped open, so if it's raining the inside of the can gets wet...just a mess. If I can ever reach anyone by phone to find out when my contract ends, I'll be looking into switching companies. read more

County Waste bought out the other service provider I was contracted with, and they were fine for a while. Then I got a bill for February service with a notice that we would have to switch to emailed bills or else might get charged an extra fee for continuing to receive the bill in the mail. So I emailed the customer service account and let them know I would be happy to start receiving my bills via email. I did not get a bill for March service, but I paid as usual through my automated billpay thru my bank website. When I got the bill for April service, I was surprised to see an overdue amount noted. Turns out they increased the price, but neglected to mention it ahead of time. I replied to the email and asked why the increase in price and why there was no notice. I got a reply that the price went up because "the cost of doing business" and they said the notice was on my bill. I checked again, it wasn't. [fyi, I work in transportation, and trucking rates are down across the board right now, fuel prices are down, so no rational explanation that I can see.] I explained to them that I did not receive a bill for March so would they please credit my account to show it paid in full as I had paid the previous rate. Zero response. I am looking for other options now, and found some with better rates, so I emailed back to County Waste and let them know they could cancel my service at the end of April, since I have just paid that bill. Took less than 20 minutes to get a response this time, just saying OK and to leave my cart at the curb on May 2nd. WOW. Didn't even TRY to get me to stay with them. Crazy. read more

We have experienced missed pickups for over a month, and when I call customer service to ask why, I am given excuses and also reassured that they will be by the next week. Then, they not show...again and again. This has happened multiple times. In addition, those who I have spoken to on customer care team were not friendly. When I cancelled my account, I was not given an apology or reason for the lack of service. The attendant on the phone simply cancelled my account. They would drive down the street and refuse to pick up our trash which was plainly placed at the proper place on the curb. They said" we drove down the street and saw no can," which is totally false as we always placed our trash out the day prior to pick up. This trash service is a absolute joke! It's been several months that we literally have to call every week to ask if they are going to pick up our trash. They will lie and tell dispatch that our can wasn't out there when they come to pick up . Which is a lie we put it out the night before. This past week they forgot it excuse was they had a substitute driver . Called the next week , had a supervisor tell me that they would get it Wednesday. So we are looking at over a week late in the middle of June, Called them Thursday because trash was not picked up on Wednesday no surprise there ,I was told that it would now be Friday 2 wks worth of trash in June temps . I found that unacceptable, spoke to a supervisor named Lindsey who then told me it would now be Saturday before they could pick up because lack of drivers ( pretty sure it's because they are now mad at me and know I'm leaving them) . So we are now talking over 2 wks of trash out on the street. I would not recommend them to anyone!! You call and have to hold for at least 30 mins with 26 people ahead of you. After several years of service, my bill went up by 15%. That was in March, after that county waste has missed multiple trash pickups. Now in August they've missed the last two weeks here in Disputanta. Absolutely awful service and customer service is a joke. I spent over two hours on hold with them.
